FOIA'd Documents Prove: The Obama Administration Lied When It Claimed It Could Not Prioritize Spending During a Shutdown to Avoid a Default
You think I'm crazy. But hear me out. During the fights about the debt ceiling -- in 2011 and 2013 -- people who wanted to reduce spending noted, correctly, that a simple expiration of a government funding would not, in fact, trigger an immediate default on government debt. The Obama Administration claimed it would, because they were trying to scare people to just give into them. (It worked.) People like Veronica De Rugy said that that was preposterous, that the government had a fair amount of money (even with a spending shutdown) and could prioritize its payments to make sure the debt was paid off, to avoid that bad outcome. Again, the Obama Administration lied and said that was impossible. Not only was it possible-- they planned for it and wargamed it.Well, as it turns out, documents subpoenaed by the House Financial Services Committee reveal that during the 2013 debt ceiling debate, "the Obama Administration is not only capable of prioritizing payments in case the nation's borrowing authority is not raised, it has run 'tabletop exercises' to prepare for such a contingency -- contradicting earlier public statements from Treasury officials."But no one will care, because everyone knows, this country ain't gonna fundamentally transform itself.

"The Federal Government takes in almost $7B a day in taxes. Where that money gets spent is up to the executive. Failing to pay the debt service would be Obama's choice, not a given. Shutting down vital services or not is also his choice, not a requirement.

What Cruz did was make absolutely sure that Republicans were "tarred" as so strongly opposing the ACA that the media had no way of spreading the blame in 2014. Which is a strong part of what led to the Senate takeover. That was a win if Republicans had been willing to do anything with it.

The problem with this line of thought is that it's passive. And in every other country where it's happened, the socialists were prepared and the people were not.
People say government is incompetent. It's bad at what we want it to do: it has a 100% success rate at moving other people's money around, which is its real purpose. And at a certain point, eliminating the opposition becomes a key cog in continuing to move other people's money around.

One poll. From one reliably leftist alphabet network.
That poll purported to show that the public were intensely angry about the shutdown. And further purported that the public all agreed it was the fault of those big meanie obstructionist Republicans, and that the public thought the GOP should be severely punished at the polls the next fall for being big meanies. (Which, by the way, did not actually happen.)
Now, if you looked at the actual internals of this poll, it was clear that it was classic alphabet-network lefty agitprop. Push-poll wording and questioning. And the oversampling of registered Democrats was enormous. It was in no sense an objective metric or reflective of genuine national popular sentiment.
But, the GOP establishment instantly knuckled under to Obama and gave up on the shutdown. Citing that one (1) ridiculously biased poll as "proof" that the situation wasn't tenable for Republicans to see through any longer.
Gosh, it's almost as though the pathetic porkers of the Beltway GOP were never serious about the shutdown at all, and were grasping at any feeble excuse to stop it. But we all know that can't possibly be true.

A team of four police officers, two men and two women, spotted two Arabs sitting on a bench. When they approached and demanded to see their identity cards, one opened fire while the other rushed at the police officers with a knife.
Hadar Cohen managed to kill one of the terrorists, before a third attacker came and shot her in the head, critically wounding her. She died several hours later at Hadassah Mount Scopus hospital from wounds sustained in the attack.
The second female police officer injured in the attack also managed to fend off one of the terrorists, wrestling with him despite stab wounds all over her body. Initially seriously injured, her condition has improved and is now listed as moderate.
As stated, Cohen managed to kill one terrorist while the second was shot dead by another Border Police officer at the scene. The third terrorist, who attacked Cohen from behind, was eliminated by a police officer who arrived later.
Chief Superintendent Shlomi Yosef, the commander of Cohen's Border Police unit, praised her "heroic and determined actions in cocking her weapon and eliminating the terrorist," before expressing his sorrow at her death.

Bush repeatedly asked congress for lower spending, reining in Fannie Mae, restructuring finance laws to stop loans to people who cannot repay, etc. He really did try to be fiscally responsible, but would not usurp congressional power. I don't think his concept of the DHS was a new gargantuan mega-agency, but rather a small clearing house to make sure agencies coordinated better.

So he made up his own religion based on some vague memories of each other faith, heavily salted with Arabic culture and tradition. That's very comforting coming from a bunch of losers. Buddhists [and maybe Hindus] would say Allah is a regionally-based small-g god originating from the Kaaba, akin to a river god, that must be propitiated in order to prevent catastrophe like boats capsizing and such. They think they're Big Deals but are really small fry.
They need to be released from the cycle of rebirth the same as anybody else but they're probably more trapped than most. Pitiable creatures from that point of view. Freeing them either requires killing them off - which typically just shuffles things around - or conversion, which requires letting go.
They'd also say that, as a spiritual being within the wheel of karma, Allah would also have a lesson to teach about renunciation. His followers are not learning that since they are slaves, however.
