OT but weird browser problem. The other day I couldn't connect to the internet, and Comcast said my modem wasn't supported any more. So I went out and bought another one, they couldn't see it, and so on. Turned out it was a cable problem and the old modem works just fine.
The weird problem is that, in Firefox, I can get to every site I can think of...except Ace. When I try to go there, I get redirected to Comcast's "Activate" page.
Ace works fine in Brave (and is tons faster).
I could call Comcast but they'd say "Oh, you read right-wing blogs? Well, maybe you'll just get really lousy bandwidth from now on, hater."

Glad you brought that forward, 'cause... I've had the Brave site tab open for a while and have been meaning to check it out. I've been using Opera exclusively forever, but disappointed since they changed after v12. So I've been thinking about trying Brave.
Can you easily set it to have bells & whistles on trusted sites? Import bookmarks okay? And the other questions I'd ask if I thought a minute?

The problem only comes when that is your only support and focus. That isn't' the case with Cruz I think.
I am also beginning to think that running a candidate without 'evangelical' support IS a problem on the republican side. How well have our moderate types done in the general? Bush definitely had the support of that community.

True, and I will certainly vote Cruz as a second. But pushing the Body of Christ thing so blatantly is creepy. Cruz has other elements, but was raised under Bush, met his wife also a campaigner for Bush, then they seem to have made most of their portfolio from Goldman Sachs hiring her in 2005. That loan is not the big issue (afaik), but GS has such strong control of DC policy, the tie is an issue. They love to have the political connections, and I don't doubt there was a quid pro quo on some level.
It's like Tom Cruise in "The Firm", where it may be innocent that she took the job, but she was there ten years. There are about 20 things like this that don't sit well with me. Of course Trump has his bowl of picadillos, but he is on target and confronts directly. I find the older conservatives lean toward Trump ... and I'm older too. I think they see through Cruz, even though he can claim the conservative title.

Back in my college days, I was a little bit of a bleeding heart. Still very socially conservative, "I could never vote for a pro-choice candidate," but also economically idealistic about wanting to save the world. I leaned Kerry the whole way, but the only, ONLY thing that kept me from pulling the lever from him was the abortion issue.
Now, older and wiser, I look at the long game. Gov. Huckabee is a good man, and no doubt, devoutly pro-life. I highly doubt he could win the general. So, for me, if it is between a pro-life candidate that can't win and a pro-choice candidate that can, I choose the latter. Because a pro-choice Dem in office will have Supreme Court picks that will create repercussions for the pro-life moment for decades, maybe forever.

Supposedly Trump had said that his security force had warned Trump that they thought there might be someone in the crowd who were bringing tomatoes to throw at Trump and Trump told them to go ahead and flatten the guy and Trump will pay the legal fees. All this was with Trump chuckling and had no context to it.
Beck then began reciting that this was how Hitler trained his brown shirts to stifle dissent and how you do not train people to do these kinds of things, and if Trump were elected, he and his friends will get richer while they send out their brown shirts(who later became the SS) to stop any protests, etc.
Beck is crazy. I hope Cruz tries to distance himself as much as possible from this nut.

A couple of years ago, he had some kind of breakdown, which he claims was organic(brain issue) that once he was treated, returned him to his "normal" self. He was off the radio for a while during which he was being treated somewhere. Cruz strikes me as much more calculating, and he twists things a little every time. He has that Clintonesque "the meaning of is" style carefulness that he routinely uses. Like him saying "I'd never seen my birth certificate". Yeah so, you didn't know you were a Canadian citizen? Is that what you're implying?
See he gets it (wants it) both ways. He kept dual citizenship till he needed to drop it to run for POTUS, then acts like he barely knew he even had it, but he doesn't quite say that. I guess that is just good politics, but I never appreciate the cleverness. Same with his claim he argued at SCOTUS over our sovereignty. The decision was really that Bush didn't have that authority, but Congress did. But he needed sovereignty chops after his 5X H-1B stance, so that would have to do.
It is not sabotage, he will have to do if Trump fails.

Immigration matters.
But even more important IMO - a precondition to success on anything else, including immigration, that truly matters - is an absolute commitment to ripping the guts out of the Federal bureaucracy, to ensuring that significant numbers of DOJ, EPA, Education, etc. apparatchiks are (preferably) run out of the building at bayonet-point, or at the very least made to serve out their careers sitting on ice floes somewhere, five hundred miles from the nearest cell tower.
I can see that with Cruz. I can even see Rubio making some steps in that direction. But I cannot see it with Trump.

I think it matters if you're consistent, but you should also know your audience and tailor your focus to them.
If I'm a politician talking to a group of pastors, I'm going to talk about the things I think matter to them.
If I'm talking to a group of farmers, I will talk about their main issues.
Just because I focus on different things in different talks doesn't mean my positions aren't consistent or are pandering.

An Arlington elementary school teacher will receive $11.5 million from the publisher of Fifty Shades of Grey as the result of a royalty dispute.
A Texas court ruled in the favor of Jennifer Pedroza, determining the fourth grade teacher was defrauded of her share of royalties. Pedroza filed the suit in May 2014 against her former publishing partner Amanda Hayward. The pair started up an e-publishing partnership called The Writers Coffee Shop in 2009. In October 2010, they published the book.
However, the lawsuit alleged that through legal wrangling, Hayward cut Pedroza out of the multi-million dollar partnership.

I don't use Reformed theological terms to talk to y'all here, and I don't use historian-speak to talk about historiography in Sunday school (which, yes, I did once). Different people use different vocabulary and start from different sets of assumptions about the world (Note: I could just use "worldview" instead of that awkward phrase, but would you know what I meant?), so one has to take that into consideration when formulating an argument.
And, seriously? This sudden hate for evangelicals is coming across as pretty bigoted right now.

From what has been said of Iowa, Trump did not have as good a ground force there as Cruz and Rubio did. Iowa is odd in that you sit in a room and listen to impassioned people hawking their favorite candidate and finally you write the candidates name on a piece of paper and drop it into what looks like a big laundry bag. Trump did not have as many "I love Trump and here's why" strolling minstrels in each precinct.
There were more than a few pundits familiar with Iowa who said this was going to be a problem for him, that they believed he miscalculated how important those individuals are, vs. him going into arenas to speak to a crowd a week ago.

What article did you read? The sidebar piece does not say the Zika virus was genetically engineered. And it makes no mention of it original origins. Its talking about mosquitoes they genetically modified to stop the spread of other diseases and it may have had a side effect that they can more easily transmit Zika. I have no issues with evangelicals, but his "preachy" style did not seem appropriate when addressing the nation.

Cruz is a lawyer, which makes him a little... sleazy at times. Its not on purpose, its just a hazard of the job. Parsing words and being very careful about phrasing, finding the loophole or way to win within the law but not necessarily within ethics is the lawyer way.
They don't all end up like that, but its something they all have to fight and struggle against to avoid becoming.

I don't myself, particularly like some of the ways some evangelical-types express themselves, but I get really irritated with the notion that religion is something that has to be, or even can be, a "private matter." I usually take it as an indication that the person positing said belief has no real idea what religion is, what role it plays in society, or, for that matter, where their own beliefs come from. Declaring that de facto agnosticism is the proper way to approach public life is itself an expression of religious belief, though those who advocate it never seem to grasp that.

There is a surplus of food grown, we pay farmers to NOT grow anything on a lot of acres. Producing seems better. Phasing out ethanol is OK, as it may become fully competitive over time anyway. It is just one element of securing our food base. And it is one of the rare areas where we have a huge positive trade balance. They squeeze us on oil/electronics, we should squeeze them on food. But we really don't, because we don't want to be evil I guess.

I may have pulled an article from here on Ace last week that listed a link showing the spread across from Africa thru Asia and the Pacific to CA, and CNN has a report on it as well today. It is entirely possible the outbreak is worsened by genetically modded skeeters, hence why the outbreak to our south is worse, apparently, than in Asia.
The original article I saw mentioned that Asia may not be as well known because not nearly as many people were tested there compared to CA....

I rather doubt TFP would've been elected had he been even rudimentally vetted by the media. When I saw his statement "Under my plan, everybody's energy bills will necessarily skyrocket," I figured he was toast. When I never saw that very telling quote on the telly or discussed by the MFM at all, I knew #WASTF.

But that 20% is in media, entertainment, government, and most importantly education. Existing as they do to use those institutions to twist the truth, they need government funds, because they're in the business of destroying that which is good. So ending government subsidies and penalties of those institutions is the simplest and most complete solution.
We all know this.
The point is we need a communicator with the skill to succinctly explain our situation while also presenting the solution as something which will work, focusing on the positive outcomes on the other side and not the details of the amputations to the federal government.
And that person also needs to have the will and the means to carry those amputations out in the face of the death throes of a 250 trillion dollar beast.

This is correct. Christianity suffers when in political power, as do people under it. When Christianity ceases to be primarily humble, loving, and merciful, it ceases to glorify God.
That said, the US Constitution and principles it enshrines are based on higher, greater, and more foundational principles which are far more significant and broadly applicable than just the constitution. This is what bothers me about Cruz' rhetoric: I get that he's using short hand, but the founding fathers wrote the constitution based upon greater and more significant truths and understandings. And narrowing that all down to one political and legal document is damaging to the principles this nation was built around.
Among those was the absolute recognition of God and a Judeo-Christian heritage and worldview.

I read somewhere else this morning that this claim that Rubio won! because of his rise, was shot all to heck when you look at the facts.
If this is true, Cruz was predicted to lose to Trump by more, so overcame much more. Rubio was expected to be 3rd, but his margin of rise wasn't as big as Cruz's.
So not only did Cruz bypass Trump,
he also bypassed and rose with a larger spread than predicted.

Sanders apparently won the caucus vote by a lot, but Democrats won't release that vote total.
Instead they say he won a couple fewer delegates, based on the obviously crazy idea he lost six straight tie coin flips for delegates.
Then the State Democrat Party "lost" the vote totals in 90 caucuses.
A reasonable person would conclude the Democrat party awarded Hillary county delegates in 96 caucuses she didn't actually win.

Well ... there is one reference in the Constitution to "the year of our Lord", which shows that there was an assumption of a Christian background to it.
Lucky that it is in there, otherwise some muzzies would be arguing that the "year" described in the Constitution means the islamic year, which is radically different from the Christian year.

There's an Italian recipe called "Chicken In Prison," which combines sautéed chicken, eggs, diced bread, capers, onionsand chicken broth in a bread bowl, which all solidifies to a nice pudding-like consistency after baking.

I would argue a limited success on (a), he won, but a lot of the Not-Trump vote went to Rubio. I'm not particularly anti-Trump, but I don't trust him any more - maybe less - than I trust Rubio. There's a lot of Schwarzenegger in that man.

Bernie was the designated far-left foil and fall guy. He wasn't supposed to win. His sudden rise caught the Clinton people by surprise and they had to scramble clumsily to restore the 'correct' outcome, and that's why it was so obvious.
Holy crap -- imagine what's coming in rest of the primaries, and in the general. Hillary is on track to lose New Hampshire --- what are they going to do? Write it off and concentrate on later primaries, or double down on the cheating?

I dunno. President Obama was inspiring, and gifted at getting people who do not normally vote to get out to the polls. And the idea of voting for historic first black dude was a big draw.
I'm not convinced historic first non dude is a big draw - and whatever draw it is might be canceled by enough people saying "a woman? No."
but who knows? All Hillary has to do is pull in the usual democrat 40% or so, then 5-10% of the usual GOP voter women who think "sisterhood! you go girl!" and that's enough for the fraud to pull her carcass across the finish line.

I spent a decade deep in that realm, and still support the networks of Christian churches as strong local support systems. But I also see the abuse of those systems. Jesus came for the Jews and was accepted by multitudes, but rejected by the power structure of Pharisees.
Then the Apostle Paul said all those that followed him had left except ... I forget, Philemon and a few or something. So I see "the church" as bottom up, grass roots. Not top down with men on earth as authorities, which generally gives rise to men of ego. Our constitution recognized God given rights to the individual with no man, pope priest, or POTUS, contravening that authority. Direct access to God, JC on his right hand.
So to me it is clear, individual rights ... but render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's ... or something like that. Religiosity tends to abuse the Christian. or something like that. What has the Catholic church done for central and South America, except leave them poor while the Vatican has their golden calves? It's a balance I guess ...

That's why I don't like that Texas has apparently just decided to ignore a bunch of (state) laws instead of repealing them. Besides breeding contempt for the rule of law, it means the structure is still there when the political parties change. The over-reaching government needs actively knocked back so that the statists have to actually *work* to rebuild it each time instead of having the framework in place.
I suspect there are *reasons* the Rs don't prioritize those roll-backs though.

Going back to laws applying to congress would help as well. The Federalist Papers cited that as a major way to keep lawmakers honest and I don't know why they didn't codify it into the Constitution.

There are plenty of conservative women qualified to be President/VP. If one of those qualified individuals happens to have an advantage that could reduce or nullify a likely advantage of the opponent (i.e. girl power nonsense) then there is nothing wrong with choosing that person as a running mate. I'm not saying just choose a vagina but politics is what it is.

I don't see any indication that Cruz took any interest whatsoever in being Canadian. If he had known about the dual citizenship, he would realized immediately (being a bright guy) that it would win him no brownie points at all on either side of the border.
So I find his explanation plausible - far more plausible than any idea he had a hidden attachment to the Maple Leaf flag.

The Associated Press has declared Hillary Clinton the winner of the Iowa caucuses. The AP made the call after 1 p.m. on Tuesday as Clinton maintained a 0.2 percentage point lead on Bernie Sanders with all of Iowa's 1,683 precincts reporting.
An aide for Sanders said Tuesday morning that the campaign was "still assessing" whether to ask the state party for a recount, according to the AP.

And this is the SECOND Vote: 232 Clinton 224 Sanders 456 Total
So somehow they lost 3 people but Clinton's vote went up by 14.
So basically what had happened was Hillary's team didn't take the time to do a full recount instead she just added the new people who joined the second vote. Which clearly wasn't an accurate count.

I may (or may not) have had dual citizenship since I was born in Germany to American parents so I can understand not knowing. Didn't know how to find out pre-internet and now that I'm over 40 I'm sure it doesn't matter.

The US Constitution has a higher standard to become POTUS, that you have been born in the USA
You must look at what the writers meant at the time it was written and why Congress
passed those acts, they were for citizenship purposes
Plus also I don't like him because he may not protect the donor class, they who create jobs and trickle down on us

Trump didn't argue about the bank accounts, I got that from a financial guy I pay to read (not regarding Cruz). My point was there could be a time in the future where being able to move to a more sound economy would be advantageous. That is done more fully (access to benefits, other things I guess) if one has citizenship. duh

There were some indications in previous outbreaks that there were some cerebral complications, but these became much more apparent (as severe symptoms often do) in this most recent large scale outbreak with at least a million and a half infected.
The reason for the large outbreak is most likely just population based, as Rio has a very large population of people living very close together compared to smaller African and island nations.
TL;DR: The article is a bogus GMO scare story with little scientific basis.

1. Most likely this is true/true/unrelated
2. If there is a link to the genetically-altered mosquitos, the only link that seems reasonable is that the geneered mosquitos changed the mosquito population in a way to favor those that carry Zika over those that carry dengue. Considering that dengue a) sucks the first time you get it and b) can become a viral hemorrhagic fever and be fatal on subsequent infections, trading dengue for Zika may be a decent lesser-of-two-evils option.
3. If (big if) the altered mosquitos had anything to do with Zika, this would be an example of an emergent effect not predictable ahead of time. Fewer mosquitos is almost always a good thing, the defect introduced in the mosquitos results in fewer mosquitos, not more.
4. Given that there was a Zika outbreak in French Polynesia less than 5 years ago, but before the altered mosquitos were introduced into the wild, most likely the two issues are completely unrelated. This is what happens when a virus is introduced to a new population. Hey, it's better than smallpox.
