EMT 1/31/16 [krakatoa]

Here comes the Iowa caucuses. First and consequently most influential for no apparent reason.

Looks like after flirting with sanity, Iowa is poised to deliver Trump his first primary victory because Cruz is a Canadian hatey McHaterson or something.

I wish I could get worked up about elections. That would mean I wasn't full on pessimistic about the trajectory of our nation.

But I just can't shake the conviction that once the majority of people discover they can vote that other people's money will be transferred to them, the die is well and truly cast.

We're about to elect either a reality show barker, an out and proud Socialist, or the person who has without a shadow of a doubt broken federal laws, and goes unindicted because: Girl/Clinton/Democrat.

Good and hard, people.

Good and hard.

Sorry for so much pessimism on a Sunday morning.

24 Good morning Hordelings

Sunday Morning Praise, for the last day of January:

"Oh How He Loves Us" sung by David Crowder

He is jealous for me, He loves like a hurricane, I am a tree
Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy.

When all of a sudden I am unaware of these afflictions
Eclipsed by glory. And I realize just how beautiful You are,
And how great Your affections are for me.

And we are His portion and He is our prize -
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes.
If His grace is an ocean, we're all sinking.

And oh, how He loves us,
Oh, how He loves us, how He loves us all.

37 Trump owes his status to the simple fact that the GOP has completely and utterly failed us.

Is actively working against us and isn't even faking giving a shit any longer.

Trump owes his status because of one issue and one issue alone - Immigration.

Where others have waffled, vacillated, and basically told us to go fuck ourselves, Trump has been resolute and strong.

Our problem is not that we don't have sufficient laws, responsible agencies or actors to secure the homeland and interior from the current foreign invasion, it's that the actors do not wish to act, the responsible agencies are being held back and the laws are simply not being enforced and are being undermined by the unconstitutional acts of the current President.

There is only one candidate that has expressly and forcefully stated that he will act to stop this invasion.

There is simply only one choice in this election....

I'm truly loathe to say this, being a Cruzer and all, but IMO Trump could do more to help stem the tide of whatever the fvck trajectory we're currently on. He'd have a greater impact on society than Cruz. Plus the MFM would have a difficult time with him as has already been demonstrated since he'll fight back against them.

I can only hope he and Cruz kiss and make up after the election. I'd like Cruz as VP or AG or even a SCOTUS justice.

If Donald Trump's Hair wins Iowa, I don't see any way he can be stopped.

41 Sitting in darkness, waiting for daylight, the thought occurred to me that would be a great title for a book.

"Waiting for Daylight" is the title of several books, one by noted Anti-War Writer Henry Major Tomlinson. Written in 1922 about WWI in the voice of a droll Englishman of superior education and intellect who notes the bloody awfulness of war, so unnecessary and inconvenient.

On Amazon as a free book, uploaded by someone who found it elsewhere *probably Gutenberg*, out of copyright.

The story begins with an amusing nonchalance about Life During Wartime amid artillery shells and gas attacks. Then the protagonists visits a London media outlet to observe the harried hysteria of the news reporters breathlessly writing about the grand events on the continent. Our hero escapes to the quiet streets of London to write :

I left the glare of that office, its heat and half-hysterical activity, and went into the coolness and quiet of the darkened street, and there the dread left me that it could be a duty of mine to keep hot pace with patriots in full stampede.

Tomlinson, H. M. (Henry Major) (2011-03-24). Waiting for Daylight (p. 13). . Kindle Edition.

Thankfully, in this modern era, we won't be having that terrible business get in the way of a good English breakfast ever again.

48 So I turn on the radio in the car this morning and there is a Sunday sermon on. The minister is telling the story about Moses being found in the reeds by the princess and her servant and how brave it was to save the baby, despite the law of the land being that it must be drowned. Then the story starts getting turned into a parable about doing the right thing today despite current laws and attitudes. Interested in where this was going I stayed tuned and was expecting, or hoping, about the necessity to stand strong against abortion and/or gay marriage and not cave to evil. My hopes were dashed when, instead, it turned out the rescue of Moses was a lesson to young people to stand up against racism, that of their elders the govt., and society at large. As it turns out you see, Michael Brown's body lying in the son was just like baby Moses in that little basket and we all have a duty to stand together to fight racism.

Can't escape this SJW shit anymore, even on Sunday morning radio sermon. Makes me more convinced that LIB is really the only way out of this mess.

I think Trump gets very little support from the voters of any of the remaining candidates that drop out except for Cruz voters and I believe those would be split evenly. I don't think Cruz will drop out anytime soon though. I think most of Carsons voters go to Rubio as well as the other fringe candidates. Right now the polls in Iowa show the voting is 72% for anyone not named Trump.

The only way I could get my Cruz nomination is if Trump wasn't in the race.

THIS. Been saying it for a while now. The president, whoever it is will have to do some pretty radical things to deal with it provided he has the minerals to not just use a pen and a phone but a chisel and granite to deal with it.

I really hope and pray that Article V gets rolling, but that process takes far too long and you still need the votes to enact the necessary protective amendments.

But to what her downfall means: our guy is going to be running against someone else. All these head-to-head matchups of Republicans vs Hillary are a waste of pollsters' money.

...........
Bernie's problem in Iowa is that there are roughly 1800 precincts, each of which has 1-4 delegates to send to a statewide convention.

Bernie is really strong in the cities and college towns. But Hillary is better liked in rural areas, which may go for her more in sheer numbers.

So, very much like the electoral college, Bernie may well get more popular votes, but lose in delegates.

I only see one person in the race who will not GAF enough to tell the Democrats and RINOs to go fuck themselves on any number of issues. For example, I'm talking Executive Orders to open up oil pipelines. And since he takes everything so personally, I can see him doing it all over the place just for spite. Not just one pipeline, but ALL the pipelines.

It won't bring the Constitution back but it will help make the nation strong again. Then we can work on restoring the foundation. Totally ass backwards but we have two parties in country destruction mode, one behind our back and one laughing about it to our face.

Speech before the Young Men's Lyceum, Springfield, IL - January 1838

" . . . Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant to step the ocean and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia, and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest, with a Bonaparte for a commander, could not by force take a drink from the Ohio or make a track on the Blue Ridge in a trial of a thousand years. At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer. If it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us; it cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen we must live through all time or die by suicide."

Also Justice Joseph Story:

" If corruption ever eats its way silently into the vitals of this republic, it will be, because the people are unable to bring responsibility home to the executive through his chosen ministers. They will be betrayed, when their suspicions are most lulled by the executive, under the disguise of an obedience to the will of congress."

132 In skimming the overnight thread, there was a piece from CNN on how reporters were scared to ask the questions they normally would heap on a republican candidate because they didn't want the fallout Meghan Kelly is getting.

No shit.

I argued back in the Palin days when there were so many ridiculous stories that our side needed to pick one or two of the most outrageous ones and identify the authors by name, then relentlessly mock and pound on them so that the others would get the message.

It was a perfect time because the press was so over-the-top when it came to Palin that they were reporting easily disproved things. By doing it then, it would have set a template and changed the face of reporting for the past 8 years.

In order to accomplish this goal, a prominent writer like Ace would have to use his connections with other bloggers to focus on the one or two targets, ala JournoList.

But, this never happened. Ace was too focused on how her snowbilly accent was going to make worlds collide and the fact that she embarrassed him.

So, we took it in the ass for an additional 8 years.

He might get a super-smart VP or a super-smart search committee to advise him on picking his team. And who knows? He might actually take their advice, or let them run things like White House Inc. subsidiaries. As much as I like him, I don't think he's all that hot to do the work of the President.

That's what I'm counting on. His team shows him spreadsheets on the subsidies and product of various government agencies, and he decides to cut losses, transfer portfolios to the States, etc.

My pessimistic scenario is that he'll turn into a Schwarzenegger, who started off true to his campaign, then quickly collapsed because the love was elsewhere -- in climate change religion and being nice to people.

My future and my bank account have never recovered. It was then that I began to pay close attention to politics and the vermin who infest it. Things have gotten much worse since then.

150 "loss of freedom"

Picture yourself in a limitless pasture/forest/whatever. You are free to go anywhere, do anything, be anything, own anything. Then one day a fence appears, but it is way off in the distance and you can still roam at will. Then the fence comes a little closer. Then small areas inside the pasture are fenced off. You cannot not enter them. But the area you can roam is still large. Some people start to complain that they are losing their freedom, but other say, we can still roam almost anywhere, what freedom have we lost?

This is how I picture it. Just the fence slowly reducing our space to roam, our space to be free. Every day the fenced off areas get bigger and closer.

151 Trump is campaigning harder than anyone I've seen in my lifetime. He flies from state to state, day after day, making his speeches that are more rolling commentary than speech. He is energetic, enthusiastic and optimistic. He does love our country and we frankly need a dose of nationalism to stave off the NWO and the Rush to Agenda 21 Tour.

Trump's kids are impressive. They all get up every day and work hard in their organization. They are clean cut, present no garish and visually assaulting tattoos, and speak well. There are NO stories about the kids as there are from Paris Hilton or the other "family", whose name I shall not speak, from which the Bruce Caitlyn thing was engendered.

It says a lot to me, as a very lucky father and grandfather, that Trump's family is intact, close, loving, hard-working, smiling and polished. Isn't that what all of us hope we could accomplish even without the temptations of lots and lots of money?

You know one of the criticism of Trump is that he didn't campaign on a personal level. His campaign is made up of periodic rally's when others are on buses visiting every county. Also it is impressive that his family is intact after three marriages. But having a billion dollars helps facilitate that rather than hinder it.

That said, his personal life is a factor for me as with others unless it's something very out of the ordinary.

You are forced to use a government-approved light bulb.

Male kollidge students no longer have the right of due process to defend themselves against false charges of rape.

The government is implementing countless rules and regulation that are strangling our economy because of a problem that only exists in theory.

That doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of the negative changes that have been forced upon us against our will.

______________________

Sadly, this may be true. Did you catch the story the other day about the VA manager who'd been suspended because she was caught stealing over $100k from the agency? She filed a suit, and the civil service judge ruled that she had to be re-instated at her former position -- the same one she had used to rip off the taxpayers (and veterans) she was supposed to be working for.

One of the first things that needs to be done is to outlaw public sector unions, completely do away with the current civil service rules -- all of which favor the corrupt, incompetent, and in some cases criminal government employees over taxpayers -- and vastly reduce and size and power of the federal bureaucracy.

Condolences to creeper on your loss.

I think a lot of it comes in the form of taxes and fees going to support stupid things when I could be doing other things with my money.

I wanted to see a production of Hamlet in London a few years ago and found a Los Angeles-London round ticket for something ridiculous, not even $300. Could have stayed in a cheapie hostel and eaten out of grocery stores, pulled off the whole thing for about $400.

After the airport fees and airline taxes and whatnot, that ticket was over $1000. Of course I didn't go, and everyone I would have supported by flying to London to see that play lost out. My choices were chipped away by people who would rather hire a bloated TSA with million-dollar x-ray machines that don't work plus a massive security apparatus in the UK than enforce sensible immigration policies and do airport security the Israeli way.

The sad reality of fighting the negative narrative coming out of the MSM is that it doesn't matter how many left wing media operations push a certain story line, they are all easily ignored.

Only when someone with credibility on the right chimes in with a similar narrative does the story line get chiseled in stone.

Yes, there are dozens of others who did the same thing as Ace. Some, vying for that all-important guest commentator spot on an MSNBC panel went out of their way to attack her. Others were just worried that they wouldn't be invited to right luncheons or cocktail parties.

The left has people who would bleed for their cause. We've got people who would sell us out for a latte.

Trump is finally leading the way with how to defeat the press, which is the main enemy, not the democrats.

Without the press, the democrats couldn't survive two election cycles. But they have the true believers, so it goes on.

I think people are reading way too much into the Trump ( and his mirror image Bernie ) phenomenon. People are pissed off at a system that they think is broken and rigged for those in the political class and they are picking their favorite destroyer.

This place used to a spot where people had vigorous debates about specific policy positions and they would hold politicians accountable for what they said or did over the course of their careers. That isn't the case for Trump. Most of his supporters seem unconcerned about his past, they just like the fact that he is currently giving the finger to the establishment.

Well there's the thing, right? Who are seeing these days? I lot of candidates - very much like Obama - who don't have much in the way of a political history. Cruz and Rubio lead among the professional politicians, and they're FRESHMEN senators. You also have Carson doing well, with no relevant experience, whatsoever.

The criticism I see about Trump is mostly talking about his hair, or he said something vulgar, or MOST COMMONLY simply calling anybody who supports him stupid. They conveniently ignore that Trump has championed a couple of issues that voters are concerned about and that no other politician could or WOULD champion.

As to his past, every conservative knows the old saw about "if you're not a liberal when you're young..." People tend to get more conservative over time. You have clips from when the Stimulus was about to spend $1T, and people are mystified why he would talking up Obama then.

The bottom line, though, is that if we don't finally get the border under control that we are doomed to becoming a Democrat-controlled, socialist, northern version of Cuba with settlements of Muslim jihadis scattered everywhere the way France does. The non-Trump professional politicians actually insult their voters who are concerned about this, so don't be so surprised that they would jump to a guy they don't necessarily even completely trust.

224 Tucker's article "Trump is your fault" made poignant points, but came at it from inside DC/NYC. As he mentions, it was obvious to middle America for a long time, that "Make America Great (again)" had become a foreign concept to the well heeled (at our expense), well mannered oligarchs of the cocktail party.

Trump is NOT a Problem, which must be someone's FAULT. Trump is exposing the Problem, of the sellout of America, which various authors have done for decades, but have been shamed as nativist, xenophobic, racist, protectionist, and stupid hillbillies. And the early Americanists were booted from the neo-con publications, who kissed up to "free trade" and diversity.

So we have an unscholarly "wise Latina" overruling the constitution on the SCOTUS bench, and that Diversity is just peachy. Now, besides reparations for slavery, America owes the whole world for that whole manifest destiny thingy, and colonialism, and don't you forget Your Crusades. Only other peoples' wars are legit, resisting is racist.

"Adios America" by Coulter gave Trump his breakout, with a speech on the destructive illegal invasion, that dared to factually counter the multi-culti abusive love affair with treasonous open border policy. But "Alien Nation" was written in 1995, about the 1965 immigration act choking off European immigration and opening doors from the third world. We still got stuck with open border/free trade Bush (and Cruz campaigning for him in 2000, which gave rise to his career, and Goldman Sachs getting their hooks into him in 2005.)

We're 50 years into the irrational exuberance, and 35 years into trade deficits, with only Reagan briefly reversing the trend.

Export of our manufacturing base under the Orwellian "Free Trade" deals has continued. (yes manufacturing is "up" but workers are down. When technology and productivity freed farmers to go to town, they took up the new tech and worked in factories. But now the new tech is given to cheap labor in the third world, to profit the oligarchs that the free trade neocons praise.

That means communist countries are Free to use their slaves and our technology to compete (and build their military, buy our government), against Americans with higher value on individual liberty (which has a cost). We ruthlessly fought wars against such commie/socialists, but now "Socialists 'R' Us".

Trump (or cruz, though I have many doubts) is an answer to the sellouts. Cruz would meticulously argue within the new PC confines, Trump throws the bums out. Jack Welch thinks Cruz would do it faster but likes Trump, but Welch is too much GE/Wall Street for me, though I always listen to him. God give us a Trump, or a Cruz ... it's our last chance for sovereignty.

Not exactly.

229 I'm surprised how many people I know are turned off by Cruz, saying he gives off a creepy, weird vibe. I just don't see it, but I hear it quite frequently. I wonder how real it would have been had I not heard it mentioned in the media at various times. Kinda like Jeb! and his "low energy" thing...subconsciously people probably thought it a bit, but nothing serious. Once Trump started hammering away at it, though, the effect was amplified, and Jeb! suddenly looked (much more) pathetic.

230 Lol, but if Trump loses in Iowa, we will then be swamped with stories of how IMPORTANT Iowa is.

Posted by: AuH2O at January 31, 2016 12:14 PM (m9wUQ)

231 JackStraw,
And your point is?

Sorry but the way Trump is handling the corrupt media, no question Breitbart would be cheering on Trump.

Trump understands to beat the dems, you've also got to beat the media.

Posted by: AuH2O at January 31, 2016 12:18 PM (m9wUQ)

232 >>JackStraw,
And your point is?

I thought it was clear. Breitbart was not a Trump supporter and if you read the link he cautioned that if conservatives didn't get their shit together that a celebrity candidate like Trump was a very real possibility.

233 D.C.-liberals and D.C.-conservatives have used America and America's credit rating to enrich themselves the last 50 years. Now that Americans are looking at the bill, they don't like what the D.C.-liberals and D.C.-conservatives have done, and are maybe motivated to take back their country. The D.C.-liberals and D.C.-conservatives are horrified.

Posted by: dfp21 at January 31, 2016 12:23 PM (9gxfj)

234 Eh that's pretty weak sauce. If Breitbart was witness to the last 4 years of the GOP I believe he would change his opinion of Trump.

Even if Breitbart wasn't a Trump fan he'd applaud him for the way he's exposed the media both left and right.

237 Trump is not a conservative ideologue, and seems to have "supported" whomever he needed for his commercial convenience. So there is question whether he would actually build the "edifice" he is campaigning on. But Trump has already knocked down a lot of PC walls, which all other candidates at most timidly pointed at. Cruz wanted 5X as many H-1Bs just a few months ago, and a year ago said there was no bigger friend of Legal immigration than him. So it is hard to say he really gets the picture that immigration and anchor babies will end our Republic in short order if not reversed.

Trump said Romney was mean to talk of "self deport" four years ago, but now we have Europe falling and even more open borders. Trump's interviews with O'Reilly and the life of his kids, and those that have been involved with him, make me think he would keep his word more than most. He also knows the nuts and bolts of getting big projects done, whereas Cruz knows DC from the inside, and certainly knows law. We might need Cruz to be Eliot Ness in taking apart the DC Cartel, more than as a senator surrounded by guilty haters.

I still have hope that major elements of corporate America can be brought back to the America First philosophy, and believe most would prefer that, but have been led away by the globalists. They get paid to play the hand dealt, not to salute the flag. But I don't see Cruz winning the Reagan Democrats or others toward the middle. Giuliani feels that way too. Trump is a pragmatic choice aided by celebrity, but is more than celebrity ... and Cruz has no executive experience on which to hang his hat.

But Trump or Cruz ... there is risk either way. The other way is a socialist hell.

America needs an alpha dog in charge to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

239 Trump may be a reality show barker to you but to me, I don't give a crap who he is. All he needs to do for me to be happy is:

1) Reduce/stop the immigration invasion (legal and illegal).

2) Re-negotiate trade deals to put some consideration into what "middle class Americans" interests are - not just the millionaire/billionaire globalists, who want to destroy nation-states and declare true "one world-ism".

But the Establishment/Neocons and their paid for whores in the media and the punditry world won't likely let that happen.

240 If you ever said Let It Burn, then shut your yap about Trump. You can't have it both ways.

Do I like him? No, not really, but GSR is pretty much right: if he can deliver just 2 or 3 things, that's two or three more than we've had in 8 years.

Let the liberals have their Social Experiment of a military, and SJW-college kids, and all of the rest of it. If I can get just the few things that Trump will deliver, I'll hold my nose and vote for him.

Sure beats "The Gang of 8..."

^^^^this

I have held this view as well. Trump is without a doubt the "let it burn" candidate. Who will at least get us SOME things. but I also think he serves a slightly larger purpose and that Is the culture war. the culture war is far more important and trump is an extremely valuable asset in the culture war. I think Reagan was great not because just his policies were conservative but because he created a culture of conservatism being cool and powerful. Well Donald is doing something similar. He is accompanying what I believe to be an insurgent rise against the political correctness and sjw s of the country and he is without a doubt the biggest threat ever facing them. What are our whiny feminist bitches gonna do if we have freaking trump in the White House?? reality is gonna hit hard and fast as they are now forced to weave even larger webs of bullshit to rationalize away the contradictions in their stupid philosophy. Of course Ted Cruz is more conservative. but the bigger threat right now isn't over tax policy, it's over the heart of the nation. We are at war right now. we should worry about getting the structure of the system right after we win it.

coming from a college kid whose surrounded by college kids who are sick of the stupid liberal bullshit our teachers/professors have force fed us the past 15 years.

242 Jwest brilliant point I was thinking the same thing about pushing back against the media.

Posted by: Shiggz at January 31, 2016 02:59 PM (G7wcY)

243 199 Noticed the same thing. This talk of "disobedience"....ummm that's a term I heaved only ever heard leftists use.

244 What if Trump made Romney VP? Romney is good at getting things accomplished he just views the left through the gope lens.

245 My thoughts

1. Bernie is a coffe house socialist compared to Obama who is an academic socialist. He found at least hold uni job.

2. W Trump a line from dark knight keeps occuring to me.

"And in their desperation, they turned to a man they didn't fully understand."

246 229 there was great Dr who moment unde David Tennent where he tells the lady Prime Minister that if she does something he'll throw her out of power with one word She does it anyway and he goes over to the reporters and says doesn't she look "tired."

247 231 yes trump is not so much a strategist but he is a great tactician meaning if you view the media at the Democrats cavalry he know that when you fight them you have to find a way to neutralize their ca

Excellent anime I've been watching called Arslan and the writer of 51st show is the same. Terrible strategist great tactician.

Conservatives are waking up to that this is a war and they are in a posturing off weakness and need strategies and tactics that realize that.

Posted by: Shiggz at January 31, 2016 03:57 PM (G7wcY)

248 There is one problem with the old truism about voting to take other people's money, people are greedy enough they want more than what every one else is getting. I think for at least a while there will be enough people, that have something and want to keep it, and have nots that think they can do better on there own, than people who have given up and just want the government to give them what they can get. I think you can also add in the people already on the teat, but don't want too many people sharing the teat with them. If I were a 48 percenter, I wouldn't want to change that to be a 75 presenter.

249 Didn't I read somewhere that the Iowa caucus is only important because it launched Jimmy Carter? And before that no one cared about it?

Maybe we could stop pretending the Evangelicals in Iowa know what they are doing. Because they obviously haven't got a clue. They gave us Carter.

250 I have never said let it burn.

But if Trump is elected, I might.
