What started as media shaming of those old people attempting to reserve their should spot using lawn chairs has become an almost open hunting season towards those young healthy residents who are doing little or no shoveling, and then hopping over to a nicely cleared spot.

Did they think they could just hesitate and the terrorists would get it over in under an hour? Someone at the WH was monitoring the 7+ hour engagement. The long history of government involvement in farming has led us to ethanol being one form of support, that costs the government less than other forms, like CRP that pays farmers to grow nothing. Energy and Food are essential items we like our government to be sure we have on hand (remember gas quotas?). Farmers produce an abundance of food, and the surplus is now used as ethanol that can be sold. The mandate sucks, sure, but stabilizing the food supply is a national interest.
Now we have frackers going bankrupt, as their boom bust cycle harms them. We of course have done much to ensure our nation's fuel supply, like fighting wars and leasing public lands. I'd support frackers somehow, but the situation is different than food supplies, in that "enemy" nations have a lot of oil, whereas not many enemy nations supply a huge abundance of food to export.
I generally like Levin, but he did a dishonest rant on ethanol, using all the "Big Oil" talking point propaganda. Then he is all upset that someone outed him for having a fiance with a son on the Cruz team. Why is it such a big deal for someone to reveal that? Well to me it lines up with the sudden screaming rant about the evils of ethanol, in support of Cruz since Trump supported ethanol. Cruz says he'd phase them out over ten years, which is just as meaningless.
IL tried to "diversify" farming back in 2002, with a couple viticulturists traveling the state, pushing grapes and the wine industry. But with globalists and illegal alien labor, it cuts the knees out from under the new industry. We had two buck chuck ($2/btl) and a wine glut including Chile, Australian, etc. wines on the cheap, few start ups survived. (I did about 500 vines as experiment, mechanized will be the way to go, one day, but need to grow AND have the winery)
So corn, Iowa ... sure, but the grain belt is as wide as the rust belt, which also needs to be productive. Bring back those jobs too. America First.

plus, from an economics point of view, if you use expensive (American) labor to do jobs that only requires cheap (Chinese) labor, you artificially raise the price of those items, harming American consumers, while making it harder for China to emerge from being a commie shithole, harming Chinese as well. protectionism is lose-lose. the only way it is "good" is to make people feel better about their patriotism. that is it, just emotion.
to the extent that we don't have the better jobs lined up for American workers here, that is the fault of the general overregulation and overtaxation of the economy, not the fault of insufficient protectionism.

Yes and no. My company makes, completely in the US, a somewhat unique product that has two direct competitors. One is in Cyprus and the other in Indonesia.
Obviously, they have an advantage on cost but they have a significant disadvantage on quality and equally important, perception. These are industrial products where quality is paramount and we routinely kick their asses at some of the largest companies where things like 6 Sigma matter.
Besides, it's largely irrelevant. We can't shut ourselves off from the rest of the world even if we wanted to. We seem to need to relearn that lesson every few years but it is becoming more true not less.
One of the major reasons our manufacturing base took such a beating is unions plain and simple. The US continues to make a shit ton of automobiles including for some of the manufacturers noted for their high quality such as BMW and Mercedes. The difference is they are built in right to work states and not in Detroit.
My company has no unions. We compete on the world stage with US manufactured products and we win. It can be done.

The government owned Saudi Arabian oil company has a history of manipulating oil prices in order to drive competition out of business. There is not currently a free market in oil.
An oil import tax provides some level of disconnection from foreign government price manipulation on the world market.

I also don't care what "they" think is electable. I've got my own concerns about Walker's electability since the primary, plus there's some shakiness on some key positions. He did win in Wisconson several times under difficult conditions so he's not unelectable at all in my opinion. Like I said I'm good with all of them.

That's all absolutely true, and I'm definitely for everything that can be done to balance the equation on our side and get rid of the structural advantages that make businesses flee in the first place. At the same time, I think some skepticism of the claims of the globalists is well warranted. They've been long on promises and short on delivery.

I have an auto with over 100K always ran on 10% ethanol fuel no issues. Small engines haven't adapted, riding mowers have. Almost all increase in food prices are from oil going from $17/brl to $117 (which, duh, influences the price of grain production) along with regular 3-5%/ year inflation. Plus all the regulatory costs of actually producing the food (e.g. Obamacare) have caused increases, (and is one of the things that has pushed other forms of production overseas).
All "free market" action happens inside a regulatory system. It was not "free market" to stop Iran or ISIS from selling oil, or fighting wars to keep oil supplies open. The $130 Billion Illinois deficit is from the non-free market teachers union monopolies (and other unions), not from ethanol subsidies, so maybe we should stop that crap first. "Free Market" trade with China builds their military and enriches oligarchs with slaves, while idling American factories ... but sure, "Free Markets" sound grand ... if you believe in Utopian propaganda.
That's as simplistic as the beauty queens that always want "World Peace".

The Loader kit is limited to neck sizing only but it is small and self contained. Just need the components and a light hammer or even a tree branch. Each kit is for one caliber only. Cost is circa 30 bucks or less if on sale.
The hand press looks like an old style nut cracker, takes standard dies, and will do full length resizing. The hand press kit is around 50 dollars, the press alone is about 35 dollars. You would have to add the dies for each caliber, approx. 30 bucks per set.
Both of these are slow but get the job done, can be stored/carried in a small box or pack with components. With minimal care they will last for many decades. Mine have.
Bench mounted single stage presses are better still but lack portability.
There's more to reloading than the tools but it can reduce costs over commercial ammo, if available, or let you tailor the rounds to your needs.

Get a Lee Loader for $29.99. Look up a load for whatever caliber it is that you want to reload and buy a pound of appropriate powder, a box of bullets and a box of primers.
You can get started for less than $100. If you like it you can buy more and better equipment but millions or rounds have been reloaded with Lee Loaders.

I had a meeting with our largest German customer a couple weeks ago. His company is actually located in Cologne and I was expecting him to be furious about the immigrant overrun.
He was actually quite sanguine about the situation and thought it was being overblown by the press. I'm curious to see how he reacts as this continues to play out.

I went with this to start, and loaded thousands of rounds before I bought a bench press, a LEE Classic Cast ($80, IIRC).
For cheap trimming, look into the LEE trimmer system. It is cheap and sufficient, as well as cheap to add additional calibers.

But China is an "enemy" that just stole 20 million personnel files, for instance, as well as building a military. We have to fight the economic global wars by rewarding more friendly and more democratic nations, as I see it.
Isolationist would be wrong, but we don't have to yield to an enemy state just because they produce more cheaply (while bribing our government, stealing tech, cheating on standards, etc). We complain about countries that subsidize their industries but it happens routinely, and we can't put half our nation on welfare just to be "fair" to the communists that use "slave" labor.
Congrats on your non-union success. The private sector here has low union rates now, but we still fund all the government union waste, and that has only grown so is a huge overhead cost.

We had a minor snowfall here over the weekend. We are lucky in that we are usually plowed pretty quickly by VDOT, and this time was no exception. However, because of the volume of snow the plow was only able to clear about a lane and a half through the neighborhood. No big deal, at least we could get out.
Now, to get my SMDH put in context, you need to know that my neighborhood, which has been there since 1983, is basically one big circle - only one way in or out, a couple of pipestems, but basically the street is a 3/4 mile circle. You also need to know that the HOA president is a militant Lefty Lesbian.
Now then - the HOA sends out an email to the neighborhood saying that all cars are required to drive clockwise around the neighborhood because of the lane. And doesn't this just exemplify how the Left sees people? Unable to talk to each other and resolve a simple "hey, I'll back into this pipestem so you can get past" moment without regulatory intervention?
We were also making fun of the email, in that it said for traffic to go clockwise but then told people that this meant no one should make any left turns in the circle - but people coming out of the pipestems HAVE to make a left turn to go clockwise, as well as incoming traffic from the feeder road...so not only do they want to dictate what direction you can go, but they also can't figure out how to tell people to do it.

The Lee Anniversary kit is a good starting point for beginning reloaders. Inexpensive (around $150 street, not including dies), and serviceable enough for basic practice ammo. The only thing you need to add is a die set and a set of calipers. Did a LOT of ammo on mine before I upgraded to a Lyman turret press. Still keep it around, I actually like the priming system on it better than the Lyman.

The oil beneath our feet in America mostly needs fracking to get it out of the ground and into your gas tank. The whole process of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing is technically demanding and complicated. It takes years of training and experience to get good at it. Existing companies in the business have put together teams of people who have the skills to get that oil out from beneath your feet. Those teams will be dispersed when the current cost of oil causes the companies doing fracking to finally go under when they cannot continue to produce oil for a cost of more than they can sell it for.
A few years from now when the Saudis raise the price of oil again, it will take a lot longer to put together teams of people who can get oil out of the American ground again. The highly trained and specialized people will be doing something else like selling real estate or managing a Taco Bell and banks will be extra reluctant to lend money to oil companies when the Saudis can drive them out of business any time they want.
An oil import tax means that oil produced in the United States can be sold for more money and that Saudi, Russian, Iranian and Venezuelan oil is sold for less. That gives the most efficient American oil producers a chance to survive, while the least efficient will still go under.
I really think it is the method that interferes least in the market system while countering the deliberate government policy of a country that is trying to drive an American industry out of existence.

My personal suggestion is spend some time at your local CrossFit affiliate. You only need to spend 45min-1hr a day, 4-5 days a week, and, from my experience, you'll meet a crap-load of other ants, instead of the grasshoppers at the local stand-around-and-chat-and-always-kip-leg-day gym. Most of the guys and gals at my local are ex- or current military, cops, private security, or the like.
So, be a weapon yourself, and hang with other people who are. That way, if the shit does hit the fan, you won't have to rely on any grasshoppers who got us to this point in the first place.

Actually, unless you spend a LOT on bulk buys, you won't save a huge amount of money on reloaded ammo. And if you figure in a cost for your time, that generally wipes out any $ savings.
But there definite advantages to reloading. The big one is that it broadens your ammo supply, you're not limited just to what factory ammo is available on the market.

I don't really count the cost of the press or dies in the equation since, with minimal care, they can last for generations. It's more a matter of buying components as possible in bulk and on sale. A pound of the appropriate powder, which might cost 30 dollars, will load hundreds, maybe thousands of rounds of 357. Unless you load for maximum pressures, the brass cases can be loaded many times, certainly more than ten uses in my experience.

National defense = protectionist, at least to some degree. They can't beat us militarily but it doesn't mean they don't infiltrate (commie/globalists like Walter Cronkite or Obama's mentors) ... or try to beat us economically by various means. Appeasement won't last forever.

It is true that it is hard to trust an Al Gore because of his hypocrisy, but is philosophically and intellectually facile to say "Lol, giant planes hypocrite" anduse that as a reason to reject the climate change chicanery instead of actually getting down and showing why it's incorrect (and there is plenty of information to that point).
It is a tactic of the left (that the right adopts) to do this and is a mile wide and an inch deep.
