Good Morning Morons. Today is Tuesday, January 26, 2016. On this day in 1998 Bill Clinton went on national TV and denied having had "sexual relations" with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky. He later told the same lie in court, committing perjury, which ultimately resulted in his impeachment in the House. But thanks to a few traitorous Republicans (and Scottish Law) he skated in the Senate. Later his law license was suspended for 5 years. If any normal lawyer was caught committing perjury he would have been thrown in jail for 5 years and his license revoked permanently. We shall see if having a last name of Clinton will save Scankles now.

Obama uses his pen and phone to ban solitary confinement in federal prisons for "juveniles". And if you think these are innocent 12 and 13 year old snowflakes think again. Children are not sent to federal prisons, only people who should be counted as adults are sent there. We are most likely talking about people more than 17 years old who were charged as adults here.

Two Republican senators want the Justice Department to investigate claims that Environmental Protection Agency officials wrongly pursued a covert propaganda campaign to promote the agency's controversial water regulations It is against federal law to use government resources for propaganda supporting a political position. Posted by: CrotchetyOldJarhead at January 26, 2016 07:07 AM (VcKnO) We have 50% of the population living off of some kind of government payment now and paying no taxes. It does in fact meet the Roman poet's definition of bread and circuses. except now we have shitty dumbed down TV to instead of games. This phrase originates from Rome in Satire X of the Roman satirical poet Juvenal (circa A.D. 100). In context, the Latin panem et circenses (bread and circuses) identifies the only remaining cares of a Roman populace which no longer cares for its historical birthright of political involvement. Here Juvenal displays his contempt for the declining heroism of contemporary Romans. Roman politicians passed laws in 140 B.C. to keep the votes of poorer citizens, by introducing a grain dole: giving out cheap food and entertainment, "bread and circuses", became the most effective way to rise to power. Nixon's technicality.
'was going to' is different than 'was'. The leadership of the GOP threw Nixon overboard to save their own skins. Contrast that with the democrats faithful defense of all of their party leadership. Meanwhile, Hillary continues to campaign despite media reports of imminent criminal indictment for treason. Posted by: Cael Lug at January 26, 2016 07:56 AM (Oth7o) 171
Story time:
In 1973 I was 13. Dad was a Nixon guy so I was a Nixon guy. We were on summer vacation taking a ferry to an island off Maine and spent the ferry ride in the car listening to the Watergate hearings. Fred Thompson asked Alexander Butterfield whether there was recording equipment installed in the White House. Butterfield confirmed that there was. I thought, "great! They have it all on tape. "Jeff Greenfield on ethanol: If Idaho were first in the nation, we'd be making gasoline from potatoes."
sounds brilliant, but is of course stupid. Potatoes are a more labor intensive horticultural crop grown on 1.1 million acres, whereas grains are grown on 83 million acres across the bread basket and are fundamental to our food supply. The long history of government involvement in farming has led us to ethanol being one form of support, that costs the government less than other forms, like CRP that pays farmers to grow nothing. Energy and Food are essential items we like our government to be sure we have on hand (remember gas quotas?). Farmers produce an abundance of food, and the surplus is now used as ethanol that can be sold. The mandate sucks, sure, but stabilizing the food supply is a national interest. Now we have frackers going bankrupt, as their boom bust cycle harms them. We of course have done much to ensure our nation's fuel supply, like fighting wars and leasing public lands. I'd support frackers somehow, but the situation is different than food supplies, in that "enemy" nations have a lot of oil, whereas not many enemy nations supply a huge abundance of food to export. I generally like Levin, but he did a dishonest rant on ethanol, using all the "Big Oil" talking point propaganda. Then he is all upset that someone outed him for having a fiance with a son on the Cruz team. Why is it such a big deal for someone to reveal that? Well to me it lines up with the sudden screaming rant about the evils of ethanol, in support of Cruz since Trump supported ethanol. Cruz says he'd phase them out over ten years, which is just as meaningless. IL tried to "diversify" farming back in 2002, with a couple viticulturists traveling the state, pushing grapes and the wine industry. But with globalists and illegal alien labor, it cuts the knees out from under the new industry. We had two buck chuck ($2/btl) and a wine glut including Chile, Australian, etc. wines on the cheap, few start ups survived. (I did about 500 vines as experiment, mechanized will be the way to go, one day, but need to grow AND have the winery) So corn, Iowa ... sure, but the grain belt is as wide as the rust belt, which also needs to be productive. Bring back those jobs too. America First. Posted by: Illiniwek at January 26, 2016 08:19 AM (5Gpe2) 240

In the words of my Socialist Bernie-loving evangelical Christian brother: "Socialism isn't the problem; people are the problem." How Stalinesque. Posted by: Pyrocles at January 26, 2016 08:13 AM (MYMcU) Socialism is forever at odds with human nature, and forever fails in practice because human nature never changes. First, you can't make people work without expecting to keep the fruits of their labor. Productive work stops, and people start putting in the bare minimums and following the path of least resistance. Second, it creates an almighty central government in the expectation that it will abolish itself, which is absurdity as very few people throughout history have voluntarily given up power. Third, as soon as all of the property is confiscated, the government owns all of the land and wealth, making it the aristocracy by default. As GK Chesterton noted, there has never been an aristocracy that didn't behave exactly like a small gang. A friend of mine offered a similar thought to your brother, but in my opinion, phrased better: "Communism is like Spandex. It looks okay on paper, but then real people got a hold of it..." Semi-interesting. I'm watching a documentary about Jeff Dunham. He was a local celebrity in high school (and was making $70,000 a year when he was in college). Anyway, when he was in high school he was interviewed by local newsman Bill O'Reilly. Bombastic Bill was just a kid in those days, I hardly recognised him.

Yes and no. My company makes, completely in the US, a somewhat unique product that has two direct competitors. One is in Cyprus and the other in Indonesia. Obviously, they have an advantage on cost but they have a significant disadvantage on quality and equally important, perception. These are industrial products where quality is paramount and we routinely kick their asses at some of the largest companies where things like 6 Sigma matter. Besides, it's largely irrelevant. We can't shut ourselves off from the rest of the world even if we wanted to. We seem to need to relearn that lesson every few years but it is becoming more true not less. One of the major reasons our manufacturing base took such a beating is unions plain and simple. The US continues to make a shit ton of automobiles including for some of the manufacturers noted for their high quality such as BMW and Mercedes. The difference is they are built in right to work states and not in Detroit. My company has no unions. We compete on the world stage with US manufactured products and we win. It can be done. "You mean you support an anti-free market policy that raises the price of
food, ruins automobiles and is more polluting than OIL?" sefton yeah JJ, I get it, you hate Trump, all in for Cruz. You spouted the same lies/distortions as Levin. "Free Market" is a great buzzword. I have an auto with over 100K always ran on 10% ethanol fuel no issues. Small engines haven't adapted, riding mowers have. Almost all increase in food prices are from oil going from $17/brl to $117 (which, duh, influences the price of grain production) along with regular 3-5%/ year inflation. Plus all the regulatory costs of actually producing the food (e.g. Obamacare) have caused increases, (and is one of the things that has pushed other forms of production overseas). All "free market" action happens inside a regulatory system. It was not "free market" to stop Iran or ISIS from selling oil, or fighting wars to keep oil supplies open. The $130 Billion Illinois deficit is from the non-free market teachers union monopolies (and other unions), not from ethanol subsidies, so maybe we should stop that crap first. "Free Market" trade with China builds their military and enriches oligarchs with slaves, while idling American factories ... but sure, "Free Markets" sound grand ... if you believe in Utopian propaganda. That's as simplistic as the beauty queens that always want "World Peace". Posted by: Illiniwek at January 26, 2016 08:55 AM (5Gpe2) 340

Milton Friedman (pbuh) once made the cogent statement, among many, that you'll get good people in office when it's politically profitable for them to do the right thing. I apologize for butchering that quote, but I think it's kind of a corollary with businesses. When the situation is such that it makes economic sense for them to "do the right thing" then they'll do it. The globalist movement reeks of Soros and Commies. I think many companies go along just to stay in the game. In any case, there has to be a smashing of the links between government and business. You're statement is rambling, inchoate and avoids the central issue. Why should the US taxpayer subsidize the production of ethanol? If it's so grand and wonderful, surely it would survive and thrive all on its own? "All free market action happens within a regulatory system." Well, yes, it's called the human condition. But when you get rid of the regulatory system, things tend to thrive or die of their own accord. All the other things you cite have nothing to do with this issue. And by the way, your car is a huge outlier. There is a mountain of actual evidence showing how ethanol wrecks auto engines. Thank you. Posted by: J.J. Sefton at January 26, 2016 09:05 AM (zLP1L) 375

Examples on the used market for reloading gear. I saw a Redding 2400 case trimmer go for $20; retail, $150'ish, IIRC. It didn't last long. I picked up a shotgun reloading press and various accouterments, retail value probably $500'ish, for $80. And I turned down a smoking deal on the scale he had, because I had on, and am still kicking myself.

That's how I found it, scraping the bottom of Netflix. For me to tolerate reading subtitles, it's gotta be better than average, though I hesitate to give it a letter grade/numerical rating until I finish the ten episodes, lest it go off the rails. Not nearly as good as a Breaking Bad or Walking Dead, but better than most TV shows.

347 ... If you don't have to crank out hundreds of rounds per hour, there are inexpensive ways to reload ammo. The two most basic are the Lee Precision Classic loader kit and the Lee Hand press.
The Loader kit is limited to neck sizing only but it is small and self contained. Just need the components and a light hammer or even a tree branch. Each kit is for one caliber only. Cost is circa 30 bucks or less if on sale. The hand press looks like an old style nut cracker, takes standard dies, and will do full length resizing. The hand press kit is around 50 dollars, the press alone is about 35 dollars. You would have to add the dies for each caliber, approx. 30 bucks per set. Both of these are slow but get the job done, can be stored/carried in a small box or pack with components. With minimal care they will last for many decades. Mine have. Bench mounted single stage presses are better still but lack portability. There's more to reloading than the tools but it can reduce costs over commercial ammo, if available, or let you tailor the rounds to your needs. Sounds like you compete in a specialized product. We (US) still have many advantages. But China is an "enemy" that just stole 20 million personnel files, for instance, as well as building a military. We have to fight the economic global wars by rewarding more friendly and more democratic nations, as I see it. Isolationist would be wrong, but we don't have to yield to an enemy state just because they produce more cheaply (while bribing our government, stealing tech, cheating on standards, etc). We complain about countries that subsidize their industries but it happens routinely, and we can't put half our nation on welfare just to be "fair" to the communists that use "slave" labor. Congrats on your non-union success. The private sector here has low union rates now, but we still fund all the government union waste, and that has only grown so is a huge overhead cost. To get started, cold, in precision smallbore, you'd bring about 5 grand. Hang around the scene for a season or two, make a friend or two, and you cut that by 2/3. Cold and alone, feeling your own way, you can blow a small fortune on shotgun competition. We have this "Bowling Alone" syndrome.
Basically, you have to be pretty close to wealthy to find your own way in anything firearm-related. Even guessing at personal handguns is damned expensive. OK, time to bitch about my HOA.
We had a minor snowfall here over the weekend. We are lucky in that we are usually plowed pretty quickly by VDOT, and this time was no exception. However, because of the volume of snow the plow was only able to clear about a lane and a half through the neighborhood. No big deal, at least we could get out. Now, to get my SMDH put in context, you need to know that my neighborhood, which has been there since 1983, is basically one big circle - only one way in or out, a couple of pipestems, but basically the street is a 3/4 mile circle. You also need to know that the HOA president is a militant Lefty Lesbian. Now then - the HOA sends out an email to the neighborhood saying that all cars are required to drive clockwise around the neighborhood because of the lane. And doesn't this just exemplify how the Left sees people? Unable to talk to each other and resolve a simple "hey, I'll back into this pipestem so you can get past" moment without regulatory intervention? We were also making fun of the email, in that it said for traffic to go clockwise but then told people that this meant no one should make any left turns in the circle - but people coming out of the pipestems HAVE to make a left turn to go clockwise, as well as incoming traffic from the feeder road...so not only do they want to dictate what direction you can go, but they also can't figure out how to tell people to do it. Imbeciles. Posted by: VA GOP Sucks at January 26, 2016 09:27 AM (eytER) 442

If we are to "think globally" we have to at least insist those foreign regime have some standards to free their workers. Or we must prepare to have our population amalgamated with the whole world (which process Obama is accelerating by forcefully pushing even jihadists into our midst. It is a clash of civilizations and the west better decide soon if we want to maintain ours. The Lee Anniversary kit is a good starting point for beginning reloaders. Inexpensive (around $150 street, not including dies), and serviceable enough for basic practice ammo. The only thing you need to add is a die set and a set of calipers. Did a LOT of ammo on mine before I upgraded to a Lyman turret press. Still keep it around, I actually like the priming system on it better than the Lyman. Posted by: IllTemperedCur at January 26, 2016 09:43 AM (j4wsR) 480

Why should the US taxpayer subsidize the production of ethanol? If it's so grand and wonderful, surely it would survive and thrive all on its own?"JJ no ... you are rambling inchoate ... yada yada First there is no subsidy, there is a 10% mandate. Taxpayers pay it as part of the national defense, providing a long term safe food supply. duh And your false premise ... "grand and wonderful". Never said that, it's your straw man. It is a use for the surplus production. Better than paying to grow nothing, which is something we have done for decades, to control supply. 308 Posted by: Obnoxious A-Hole at January 26, 2016 08:45 AM (QHgTq) Well, it's a slippery slope. Once you do that, what's to stop every other sector from demanding the same thing? And all that does is trigger an international tariff war, like what happened with Hoobert Heever and then you get the Great Depression. In any case, we are swimming in oil right beneath our feet. If we are allowed to frack/drill/exploit it, I think the point would be moot. The laws of economics are a hard mistress. Posted by: J.J. Sefton at January 26, 2016 08:48 AM (zLP1L)" Every sector demands that all the time. That is why there is a K Street. The oil beneath our feet in America mostly needs fracking to get it out of the ground and into your gas tank. The whole process of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing is technically demanding and complicated. It takes years of training and experience to get good at it. Existing companies in the business have put together teams of people who have the skills to get that oil out from beneath your feet. Those teams will be dispersed when the current cost of oil causes the companies doing fracking to finally go under when they cannot continue to produce oil for a cost of more than they can sell it for. A few years from now when the Saudis raise the price of oil again, it will take a lot longer to put together teams of people who can get oil out of the American ground again. The highly trained and specialized people will be doing something else like selling real estate or managing a Taco Bell and banks will be extra reluctant to lend money to oil companies when the Saudis can drive them out of business any time they want. An oil import tax means that oil produced in the United States can be sold for more money and that Saudi, Russian, Iranian and Venezuelan oil is sold for less. That gives the most efficient American oil producers a chance to survive, while the least efficient will still go under. I really think it is the method that interferes least in the market system while countering the deliberate government policy of a country that is trying to drive an American industry out of existence. You only need to spend 45min-1hr a day, 4-5 days a week, and, from my experience, you'll meet a crap-load of other ants, instead of the grasshoppers at the local stand-around-and-chat-and-always-kip-leg-day gym. Most of the guys and gals at my local are ex- or current military, cops, private security, or the like. So, be a weapon yourself, and hang with other people who are. That way, if the shit does hit the fan, you won't have to rely on any grasshoppers who got us to this point in the first place. The big one is that it broadens your ammo supply, you're not limited just to what factory ammo is available on the market. Posted by: IllTemperedCur at January 26, 2016 09:57 AM (j4wsR) 510

498 ... I think commercial 357 magnum ammo costs more than 25 cents a round these days but I'm not sure. Haven't bought any 357s for many years. It would be hard to estimate the cost per round of my reloads since so much of my components have been acquired over years. I do know I can reload cheaper than commercial costs.
I don't really count the cost of the press or dies in the equation since, with minimal care, they can last for generations. It's more a matter of buying components as possible in bulk and on sale. A pound of the appropriate powder, which might cost 30 dollars, will load hundreds, maybe thousands of rounds of 357. Unless you load for maximum pressures, the brass cases can be loaded many times, certainly more than ten uses in my experience. IllTemperedCur is correct. If you have to figure in the value of your time, the cost benefits of reloading can disappear. I consider reloading to be part of the shooting activity and enjoy the process for itself. I've developed certain preferences in shooting over the years and reloading lets me meet those preferences better than any commercial ammo could.

Similarly they will accept aclaim, not because of whomever brings it,but because it is true. It is true that it is hard to trust an Al Gore because of his hypocrisy, but is philosophically and intellectually facile to say "Lol, giant planes hypocrite" anduse that as a reason to reject the climate change chicanery instead of actually getting down and showing why it's incorrect (and there is plenty of information to that point).
