And the one thing no one is talking about (or few) is that we are one SCOTUS appointment away from losing everything. No matter who wins the White House.

Sarah Palin's son in trouble with the law on Monday. Drinking, domestic violence, etc. On Tuesday SP endorses DT, life goes on, etc.

In head to head matchup Cruz whips DT. If only we could get the others to drop out.

33 The fvcking hysterics over a bit of a snowstorm coming to the Northeast is getting ridiculous.

My area may get a foot of snow. That's 12". Maybe I am wrong, but I recall a few instances of that much snow during my lifetime, and we seemed to handle it well.

The editorializing on the part of the weathermen is unseemly. Shut up, describe the most likely path of the storm, and have a crying jag in your dressing room, but not in public.

Over the river in Pennsylvania, I recall a couple of two foot snowfalls. One late spring, In which the snow all but disappeared by the afternoon. Another storm the governor closed the roads. By the next day everything was fine.

It does look like a long one, though. Starting late Friday night, all day Saturday, ending Sunday morning.

Maybe you haven't seen it yet. Her sons in big trouble with the police. Happened Monday of this week. He's low to mid 20's, so hardly a 'kid', so fair game. It reflects poorly on her when he blows a .18 BAC, beats up a girlfriend, then threatens to off himself with a rifle.

93 To me, Palin is largely a cultural figure, or marker, kind of like Trump in that way. They are both politicians, of sorts, but they reach people as is from outside of politics, for better or worse. If Sarah can retail-politic the hell out of Iowa, get those big crowds back from 2008, then maybe this will turn out to be huge for Trump. Or it could marginalize him if Palin falls flat with Iowans. Interesting 2 weeks ahead.

95 If Sarah had not be snatched by McCain to save his campaign... She'd likely still be Governor. No? Her kids would not have been swept into the national kleg lights... maybe they'd still be young adults with issues, but I wonder. I think that family has paid a dear price for her exposure. They've got compensated financially, but I wonder about the underlying emotional toll. Kinda sad.

I agree. Sarah Palin was not ready for the sh-tstorm that followed when McCain chose her. I think her endorsement of Trump smacks of opportunism, and I recognize her faults. But no way does she deserve all the vitriol that's been thrown at her.

It does look like a long one, though. Starting late Friday night, all day Saturday, ending Sunday morning.

160 There is such a serious divide that I've noticed on FB, Twitter, Misc blogs etc... regarding Cruz/Trump. One thing I'm curious about is how many Cruz voters will cross over to vote for Trump and how many Trump voters will cross over for Cruz.

Something else I've noticed while talking to people about this election, is that a lot of Dem voters that either voted for Obama or didn't vote at all, love Trump, but will not vote for Cruz. I really believe the reason Trump is so high in all the polls is because of the dem crossover. I don't see this as a good thing.
I am on team Cruz and I don't know if I will be able to hold my nose and vote for Trump. Something I've always done in the past like a good little Republican. I don't trust Donald, I feel like he's a slimy salesman, all he cares about is winning, I don't think he really cares what team he's playing for as long as he wins and I'm not sure how that will play out if he's President.
Is he better than Clinton, or Bernie, of course, but that being said I still have a lot of thinking to do before I will be able to bring myself to vote for someone who has spent most of their lives having liberal views

196 Following up "Civis romanus sum" in the last thread, I'd like to share another bit of Roman history. A little more two thousand years ago, Rome experienced three major slave revolts, called the Servile Wars, over the course of a century. Most of us have probably heard at least secondhand about the heavily-mythologized Spartacus and his band participating in the third such revolt, with a lot of modern liberty bullshit tacked onto what was basically a gang leader wanting to be the slave-*owner* rather than the slave.

The Romans, being badasses who at this point had Enough Of This Shit (TM), put down Spartacus and his last slave revolt by crucifying Spartacus, crucifying his fellow rebel leaders, crucifying his friends, crucifying everyone who'd fought alongside him (except the dead ones, obviously, no point crucifying them), and in fact crucifying practically every rebel they could get their hands on after the battle. All in all about six thousand crucifixions.

And those weren't in a dedicated crucifixion field somewhere out of the way with attached mass grave, either. The survivors of the uprising were crucified along the big Roman highway running through South Italy, so that travellers going to and from Rome would see these bodies hanging from crosses every step of the way, a yuuuge sign of DO NOT MESS WITH ROME OR WE WILL FUCK YOUR SHIT UP.

Rome never had any more Servile Wars until the sad day it fell to the Turks some 1500 years later. Now there's world leadership: solving a problem so hard that in an empire spanning three continents, the problem stays solved for over a millennium.

199 IA may not be a pathway to the nomination, but losing both IA & NH is assuredly a pathway to oblivion.

Those of us who are politically active in the Midwest have noticed states out here moving rapidly to the right, like the proverbial scalded hound. See, e.g.., MO, where the DEM party has turned into the "AA & colleg town" party.

IA is no exception. See, e.g.., Ernst, Joni. I submit that the fact that IA has often voted DEM in prexy elections in the recent past probably has no predictive value, if the GOP nominee is remotely competitive nationally.

Obama has hollowed out the DEM party in the South & Midwest. The evidence is so abundant & overwhelming that even Zero recently acknowledged it, explaining that, "I can't help wondering, frankly, if it has something to do with my race."

I find it strange that eight (and four) years ago, some people were excoriating a candidate for wanting to be president when he had been in the Senate for only one term, might be ineligible for reasons of birth, might have been a citizen of another country as a boy, espoused policies that would hand American jobs to foreigners, etc., etc. And they were right on all counts. Said individual was elected, and among other things, gave Iran support in its quest to have nukes, and gave us TPP, for which he was justifiably excoriated some more.

Jan 28th
Gen. Mark Clark aboard PT-201 and escorted by PT-216 were on another run to Anzio in the early morning. The minesweeper USS Sway had been warned Axis aircraft were attacking Anzio and the captain expected a coordinated E-boat attack.

The two American PT boats approached the minesweeper at a high rate of speed and challenged them to identify themselves. PT-201 replied with a 6-inch signal light that was not seen because the low sun was directly behind the boat. Fearing his ship was being attacked, captain of USS Sway ordered his guns to open fire. PT-201 then fired a flare that was again lost in the bright sun. Then gunfire hit PT-201 as the boat reduced speed. The hit to the wheelhouse injured 201's skipper Lt. Patterson, his second officer, and another man while one bluejacket and an officer passenger were killed.

According to the Peter Tares, Gen. Clark then said "Let's get the hell out of here." Though Clark in his biography recorded it differently as "Well, lets run for it."

280 "I can't help wondering, frankly, if it has something to do with my race."
________________________

When you're a race-obsessed idiot like Obama, you can trip over your own dick and you'll say exactly the same thing.

Anything bad that has ever happened to Obama is because of his race. And anything good that has happened to him is because he's so brilliant and gorgeous and talented and special. Has nothing to do with his race. When the liberal media fawns all over him, it's never about his race. When voters in early primary states were voting for him in 2008, it had nothing to do with his race. When the Nobel committee gave him a Peace prize, it had nothing to do with his race.

Obama reminds me of an article I read once about Halle Berry. In it she was whining about all the raaaaaacism she's had to deal with her entire life. She was a cheerleader and one of the homecoming princesses in high school, but she would have been the queen, but for the raaaaacist students. She won some beauty contests, but lost others, but she would have won them all, if not for the raaaaaacist judges. She got some good roles in movies, but she should have gotten every role she ever tried out for, and she would have done, if not for raaaaaacist casting directors. She was nominated for awards, and she won some but lost others, but she should have won them all, and would have done, if not for raaaaaacist voters. On and on and one like that. Every good thing in her life was because she earned it or deserved it; every bad thing was because of raaaaaacism. Never occurred to her that occasionally, somebody else might have worked harder or jumped higher or been prettier or more popular or better suited to a role she wanted. No, the only conceivable reason that she could ever lose out was because she was a victim of raaaaaacism!

The Italians are going to negotiate for energy directly with Putin and cut out "middleman" Germany so everything has gone sideways. Her brilliant economy is crashing. No one will obey Merkel or her flunkies in Brussells. She lost control of the "kids". She is essentially paying Turkey to send more. I'm trying to think of ways she could screw up more than she has and I can't. Maybe if the Germans start shooting at the Austrians and French this summer would top what she has already done.

Thought of this yesterday. Management usually is NOT union.

Since the head of an agency serves at the pleasure of the President, appoint someone from the rank and file.

Fire them the next day. Appoint someone new. Fire them. Appoint someone new. Fire them. You have 365 days per year x4.

Most positions yes, they'd technically have to leave some skeletons to technically comply with statutory positions and the courts would probably argue some level of staff would have to be kept to keep with statutory requirements of the agency (so long as congress had funded said requirements). Bottom line if one had the will one could take a very serious bite out of many agencies size, scope, and enforcement ability.

Last year was the snowiest, at least for me.

The total was over ten feet, and I believe there was a day (or more?) when we had a foot or so in one day. There was a short-lived no-driving order, and the plows were running 24/7 for a time. Messy. Cold, too.

Of course when you spent the majority of your life in SoCal, any amount of snow is incomprehensible....

This may be where the Dims get their own taste of dealing with King Putt the Community Organizing Sociopath.

Clearly, the best and easiest thing to do since the MSM will go along is for Obama-

to call this all a GOP witch-hunt and straight up pardon her.

That takes the uncertainties out of the system.

But, disrupting certainties and tightening his control is what TFG is all about, so

any pardon for Hillary! comes at the last possible moment in his Presidency if it comes at all.

In fact, I bet esp. if she loses the general, he let's the indictment go through right before he leaves office

and let's the Reps have to deal with that big ole stink bomb while the MSM criticizes them for not "moving forward and dealing with the real issues of the country"

Yep.

377 Btw since when did 6-12" become super massive omg freak out storm? (I understand 18"+) I seem to recall as a kid that was just a typical snow storm, and one at the level that might actually mean no school in the morning, anything less then that wasn't even a big deal.

379 The 70s were when you left California, if you were smart. That's when I bailed. And just an FYI, a lot of the stuff you see here about Trump was said about Reagan in those days.

Have you tried talking or emailing people that were adults in the 70s? It was a weird time and I can't think of any single source that can capture it.

380 'Can anyone recommend some good source material on the 1970s so I can get the feel of the era right?
Do you have a leisure suit?'

ALso, long phone cord that got all twisted up as you walked around. ALso, a group of us high school-agers used to drive into LA to take in a show. Imagine that now, ha.

381 There is a site called vintage LA which has a lot of photos from the 60s that may help you.
