@96 Skipped over it on the last thread. The whole water-quality crisis is a generation-long power grab to make water a Federal utility. Absolutely would not put it past city-level Dems to deliberately screw up city water to aid in that. And as I write this, Toledo is three blocks away. I'm not on their water, thank the Lord.
There's a lot more to the Flint issue than lead in the water. There was a dam near the oldest biggest GM complex that kept heavy shit out of solution. Modern day dambusters had that removed for "natural." And, the lead is not coming from the flowing river. Lead was already in the piping; there was some actual lead piping. Something new-ish in the water is dissolving that, and spreading it evenly through the whole distribution system. Now we're taking fed-level money to fix that. Just thought I should point out that Luis Gutierrez gave an ugly interview after the Obama SOTU in which he said that Republicans want for Latinos and Asians to "disappear" and that Republicans would be happy for blacks not to be able to vote.
This is the same Luis Gutierrez of whom the new Republican Speaker of the House, Lyin' Ryan, has spoken highly. The same Gutierrez with whom Ryan has made amicable common cause on amnesty. It really is seeming as though "Party Of Stupid" simply isn't strong enough wording any longer to describe the establishment GOP. "Party of Suicide"? >>The whole water-quality crisis is a generation-long power grab to make
water a Federal utility. Absolutely would not put it past city-level Dems to deliberately screw up city water to aid in that. Reminds me of what the EPA did to the Animas river in Durango. Locals resisted the Superfund site designation for years over abandoned mines, so the EPA pressures a mine owner to let them access his mine and test it for contaminants, and instead disrupts it so that it contaminates the river. Next step, Superfund site status: approved!! Posted by: Lizzy at January 15, 2016 11:40 AM (NOIQH) 122
Cruz hit Trump with "New York values" to get more of the Holy Roller vote in Iowa and SC, some of whom are still with Carson. If Trump wins Iowa, NH and SC it's game over.
While the consensus is that Trump's playing his 9/11 card won the debating point, Cruz's gambit might still work to gain the necessary edge to win in Iowa and NH. Social issues like abortion and gay marriage haven't gotten a lot of Republican play this cycle, which I find surprising. Trump I'm sure is agnostic on these issues, which will help him in the general if he's the nominee. Abortion will hurt Cruz, if he's the nominee. THE IRISH PROSTITUTE -
An Irish daughter had not been home for over 5 years. Upon her return, her Father cursed her heavily. Why did ye not write to us, not even a line? Can ye not understand what ye put yer old Mother thru? ' The girl, crying, replied, 'Sniff, sniff... Dad... I became a prostitute...' 'Ye what? Out of here, ye shameless harlot! Sinner! You're a disgrace to this Catholic family.' 'OK, Dad... as ye wish. I just came back to give mum this fur coat, title deed to a ten bedroom mansion plus a $5 million savings certificate. For me little brother, this gold Rolex.. And for ye Daddy, the sparkling new Mercedes limited edition convertible that ' s parked outside plus a membership to the country club... (takes a breath) and an invitation for ye all to spend New Years Eve on board my new yacht in the Riviera. ' 'Now what was it ye said ye had become?' says Dad. Girl, crying again, 'Sniff, sniff... a prostitute Daddy! Sniff, sniff.' 'Oh! Be Jesus! Ye scared me half to death, girl. I thought ye said a Protestant. Come here and give yer old Dad a hug. I read a matched set of studies a couple years back, that some wag had juxtaposed. One proved that women's voices naturally got higher with age, and developed high-cycle overtones. The other proved that as men aged, they lost auditory acuity in exactly that range. Evolution's little jokes. Dogs hardest hit.

For the first time, the global organizingbody of Anglicans has punished the Episcopal Church, following years of heated debate with the American church over homosexuality, same-sex marriage and the role of women. The Anglican Communion's announcement Thursday that it would suspend its U.S. branch for three years from key voting positions was seen as a blow to the Episcopal Church, which allows its clergy to perform same-sex marriages and this summer voted to include the rite in its church laws. I'm still new to the Episcopal church (raised Congregationalist), so I don't really get this type of church hierarchy politics. Posted by: Lizzy at January 15, 2016 11:46 AM (NOIQH) 144

"Social issues like abortion and gay marriage haven't gotten a lot of
Republican play this cycle, which I find surprising. Trump I'm sure is agnostic on these issues, which will help him in the general if he's the nominee. Abortion will hurt Cruz, if he's the nominee." If you go back and read Reagan's 1980 campaign trail speeches, you don't find abortion as a marquee issue. Reagan used friendly proxies to narrowcast on the abortion issue to socon audiences. He himself often tiptoed around the edges of the _Roe_ question. Buried it in his larger critique of federal overreach. Even once in office, Reagan maintained a wary balance regarding the abortion debate. If memory serves, Reagan appeared on taped video each year to address the March For Life on the D.C. Mall, despite the fact that on several of those occasions, he was in residence at the White House only a short distance away, and could easily have come over there to speak to the marchers live and in person. Abortion is a difficult nettle to grasp, politically, in a society that's deeply divided on the issue, and when those divides extend even to within political parties. I know a good many country-club Republican sorts from way back for whom abortion rights are one of those things they don't much like trumpeting support for, but don't want to see taken away, either. If you, like me, don't get to talk too much to liberals anymore because they know that you will - with a smile, and not using a word you can't use in church - humiliate them... then you can only dream of things to say to them.
If by some insane chance I get to a party (and I'm going to one this weekend) where someone openly supports Hillary Clinton, then this is my question to them: What would she have to be accused of to make you change your mind? What evidence do you need, that you don't already have, to convince you that she is a pathological liar? Most importantly, do you believe that a pathological liar would make a good president? Like I say, I don't expect to get the opportunity... but it sure would be nice. Posted by: RobM1981 at January 15, 2016 12:07 PM (zurJC) 206

Really well done so far. I'm guessing the breathing order is backwards but it was another great scene. ========== I'm impressed with the quality of the production. Looks like a lot of time on the vomit rocket. They've made some deviations from the books but, that's ok for film. In the books, I found Miller to have far more depth/interesting than Holden. I also agree that the third book could have been the end. Subsequent books should have been a different series with Miller sleuthing out what happened to the gate builders. I don't know if there is a new formulation of chlorine being used in municipal water. I have heard, over the years, that for treating really questionable water, you introduce a large amount, and then de-chlorinate before sending the water out. And the chemical by-products of chlorine's breakdown, part of the sanitizing process, are themselves pollutants. Smart operators (mine) are going to ozone treatment, and it's not a hugely expensive changeover in a plant less than a century old.
Dem operatives in the water arena always have to find a way to blame old industry, or farmers, for problems that were always there but now suddenly appear worse because they spent the water improvement money on pretty things. Watch them. The new model for electricity appears to be the end of the "fleet" of power plants, with everything de-centralized into green stuff. Of course, this is only possible with massive government subsidy. I look for daily water deliveries by government vendors, and the end of pipe networks. Quick and easy to shut off a malcontent, and it instantly converts suburbs into remote mountain fastnesses, prohibitively expensive to maintain. So move into the city like a good citizen. If you think this is crazy, you've never seen a sharp city manager pull an annexation on a township. The water is how you get them. Dirty business. Can't wait for this to catch on with sewage services. Third world here we come. Posted by: Stringer Davis at January 15, 2016 12:23 PM (xq1UY) 242

This is a personal grudge of mine, & likely an eccentric obsession, but I loathe the facile comments about past IA winners President Huckabee & President Santorum.
1) Santorum's IA victory wasn't even known until 3 WEEKS AFTER the caucuses! By then, he'd already lost NH! 2) Both Santo & Huck had no money! After winning IA, both men had to start from scratch-- to build a war chest and an organization in states other than IA. 3) Trump & Cruz have money already. Cruz had an outstanding 4th Q FR haul, & you probably heard the rumor that Trump can self-fund. Cruz has an organization in the OTHER early primary & caucus states right now that Santo & Huck couldn't even wet dream about. True, but how much leverage is there in the market, and what happens when they are forced to sell to cover that leverage, and how many are short ... stock money just goes to heaven ... you can check in but you may not be able to check out. The National Transportation Safety Board wants to decrease the legal driving limit to one drink, lowering the legal limit on blood-alcohol content to 0.05 "or even lower."
The agency released its "most wanted list" on Wednesday, a laundry list of policies it would like implemented nationally. The list includes recommendations to reduce the current 0.08 blood alcohol content limit and outlaw all cell phone use while driving, even hands-free technology. I wonder how long before they want to outlaw radios in cars, which undoubtedly distract drivers more than cell phones or anything else. And then they'll move on to outlawing any conversations in cars, since they are no different than hands-free cell phones. And finally, they'll just outlaw cars. Corzine walked away scot free after "borrowing" $1.5B from investors that thought their money was safe, to cover his Europe "gambling" debt. Dow Jones down about 450.
Wal Mart announces big number of stores to close, says most are short drive from other stores, then says needs to reevaluate place re competition from Amazon. I sense this when I go through any store. Macy's. Nordstrom. REI. Cabela's. Boot Barn. You name it. Everyone in the stores carrying a smart phone. The stores all mostly offering free Wi Fi. The shelves cannot carry it all, the manufacturers offering so much that the boxes cannot have enough space for everything. So you go to Amazon. If you are like me, and live in a state without an Amazon distrubution center, you don't pay sales tax. If you are a prime customer, there is no shipping. I know, yeah, it's embedded in the price, but usually the sales tax more than offsets the delivery cost. Say you want a simple $20 hand mixer for the kitchen. How many are on the shelf at WalMart, at Target, at Macy's? How many can you choose from at Amazon? It's a no-brainer. For me, a WalMart is a 10-mile round trip and an hour, when I tally it all up. 10 miles costs me at least $5 in car ownership. My hour costs me something. And who is out there to compete with Amazon? You can't support absurdly high stock values by making blue-sky claims about how many bazillion dollars the companies are worth. Show me net profits, minus government handouts, and we can talk. One silver lining: if it goes on, this will wipe out some of the Wall Street Greedheads that Crazy Uncle Bernie wants to squeeze to Level the Playing Field for those hurt by the "rigged economy." Germany cancelling things or changing in any way because the Musloids might find it haram is only going to make them bolder. Their victory in Germany is already sealed - just have to wait a decade or two: From Gates of Vienna So, in five years, of the 23 million residents in this country between 20 and 35 years old, 11.5 million would have an immigration background. That is half. And that is not considering the higher birth rate of at least the first generation of immigrants. Just think thirty years into the future, when the majority --- over 50% of those now living in Germany, and these are the older people --- have died out, and now imagine the future composition of the population of the Federal Republic. There are some uncertainties in this extrapolation --- the volume of immigration, the residence permits granted and the family reunions in coming years. Nonetheless, it is very probable. So sad. Are you sure WalMart is reevaluating competition with Amazon or in the Amazon? Amazon went about 20 years without profit thanks to the low interest rate fed policy. This is the invisible harm done by low rates as real business is driven out of business. All Amazon cared about was market share as they lost money on every book (driving out bookstores) then they went on to sell everything.
Competition is good, but using stock money to sell at a loss is not how "capitalism" is supposed to work. At least not when interest rates are forced lower by the fed, to prop up the stock market. I try to buy American and buy local, but have bought a lot of stuff from China. WalMart used to have those "Made in America" tags long ago ... not much now .. huge container ships import everything. >>Why is the Episcopal Church Near Collapse?"
Because today it's no more than a leftist property management company in vestments. My diocese left a few years ago but allowed each parish to make its own decision as to whether to stay with the national church or go with the diocese. The diocese also issued quitclaims so that those who stayed with the national church could keep their buildings; contrast this with the national church, which sues any congregation that leaves but wants to keep its own building, which when they win leaves them with empty churches that they can't pay for, because the people who agree with the politics of the national church don't go to church in the first place. Of course, leftists being leftists, the national church cannot tolerate having people leave and tried (and continues to try) to sue my diocese into oblivion by claiming that a diocese cannot leave the national church, that the national church owns all of the properties, and that the national church owns the name "Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina", despite the fact that the diocese predates the national church! Of course they lost in court but that didn't stop them from pouring even more money into an appeal, because leftists cannot abide the notion that someone, somewhere doesn't agree with them.
