Press Conference in Philadelphia, About Attempted Assassination of Police Officer by Terrorist

Video background of the story here.

The man rushed out to a police car on patrol and attempted to assassinate the cop at the wheel. He was severely wounded, but so far is alive.

Sources say the suspect said he did it in the name of Islam.

The officer -- 33-year-old Jesse Hartnett -- was struck three times in his arm, authorities say.

"Shots fired! I'm shot! I’m bleeding heavily!" Hartnett can be heard yelling on police radio.

Sources tell Eyewitness News the suspect has given a full confession, saying he did it in the name of Islam.

He also says he did it on behalf of the Islamic state.

Ongoing press conference here. The cop giving the presser is apparently saying there is no evidence, yet, of any connection to a wider group.

But he doesn't deny the perp self-identified as acting on behalf of Islam and the Islamic State.

I'm getting tired of the government saying something isn't "terrorism" when it plainly is. They are imposing a nonsensical rule that "terrorism" requires coordination with overseas elements, or at least a conspiracy of several persons.

One man can commit terrorism. There is a federal crime on the books. If you burn a cross on someone's lawn, with terroristic intent, you can be charged as a terrorist -- no need of overseas coconspirators.

Yet the government seems to always take the position that terrorism requires a conspiracy, specifically an overseas conspiracy connected to a major terrorist group, with one and only one type of terrorism.

The cop giving the press conference is pretty straight-up, though. I just cannot accept this continuing claim that it's not "terror" unless you can find a phone call to ISIS central.

What? The cop just said that he didn't know of any additional surveillance of organizations or groups posing a possible terrorist threat, because that's a federal matter.

What?

Does Philly not have its own terror surveillance teams? It certainly must. I don't know if he's being evasive or if he just misunderstood the question.

Video: The cop at the press conference said he had no idea how Hartnett survived, or returned fire on the subject. Asked if Hartnett was wearing a bullet proof vest, he said, "First of all, he was armed with the grace of God," because he couldn't see any other explanation for how he survived.

Below, the video of Hartnett being shot like a fish in a barrel, but then getting out of the car to arrest the suspect.

Arrest him with bullets, I mean.

We Need Moar Gun Lawz: The terrorist was arrested for a gun crime in 2012 but was allowed to plead to a lesser offense, and did no time.

I think it's possible that it's -- don't shoot me for using this word -- nuanced.

Yes, ISIS is encouraging lone wolf attacks and several have ensued. ISIS is also happy to take credit for anything done in their name, whether or not they had anything to do with it.

We can expect potential terrorists to be everywhere, and to receive no proactive surveillance, or retribution aginst the terrorist who does strike. We have to depend on news from blogs, not from television or newspapers. It's every man, woman and family for themselves. The doer admitted to Homicide detectives his motive was Islam, despite what our newly-elected (dimwit) mayor said. Mayor Kenney's - who likes to imbibe occasionally - initil comments blamed the guns and not the Islamist. As of yet, his Twitter feed has been silent on the matter. No support for officer, or faux outrage. Kenney is a guy who runs to the left of Obama, and his first action as mayor was to re-declare Philly is a sanctuary city. So there's that.

We need to focus on the vast majority of good moslums, the ones that aren't out there trying to kill everyone. You know, islam means peace. There's no need to incite a backlash by reporting the facts. There's no need to recruit more moslums to commit terror by reporting on the facts of moslum terrorism.

171 Caesar, Napoleon, Patton were all pikers when it comes to military strategy.

The ultimate military strategy is for Army A to convine opposing Army B that every time Army A attacks, the most serious risk is that Army B will "backlash" against Army A.

Then Army B will permit unlimited attacks against itself until it is annihilated.

Send in liberals fist as an early invasion force, to mentally soften up the enemy, and follow that up with the heavy troops.

194 Wow. It seems almost daily now that we are getting real-life, factual events that completely undermine, refute and DESTROY!11!! every current liberal / progressive piece of shit argument.

195 Terrorism requires a conspiracy unless it's a white guy. In which case it's automatically a conspiracy because every person of European descent is complicit in everything one of us does.

197 "(Philadelphia police commissioner) Ross said the motive for the attack
was unclear, but that the suspect, in his 30s, was dressed in several
layers of clothing "

This is the statement of someone who is clearly lying to himself and the people he serves. He also, I believe, adamantly declared that this action was not related to islam. Tar. Feathers.

198 Who would want to serve as a police officer under such low-life lying shitheads who refuse to believe reality, even while it is, literally, shooting at them?

Posted by: Eli Cash at January 08, 2016 03:12 PM (a+WIL)

199 Perpetual is alive and confessed it was because the police act in defiance of the Koran.

200 Also the new imam of Philadelphia Jim Kenney said the perp acted agaist the faith of Islam and in no way believes in the religion of peace.

201 But the thread is dead so no one is going to see this.

202 Listening to a Philadelphia sports talk guy who is a hard core lefty and caller brought up shooting and host states "To many guns out there". Gun was a stolen police weapon.

Posted by: Skip at January 08, 2016 03:31 PM (3ZgzE)

203 "9 Obviously Philly's sensible gun control is working to keep citizens and cops safe.
Posted by: maddogg, now certified infrequently vile at January 08, 2016 01:14 PM (xWW96)"

Unlike NYC or Chicago, Philadelphia is "Shall Issue" like the rest of PA. They had very restrictive gun laws until a State judge forced them to change back in the late 80s (I believe).

204 "174 169 Part of the rules for Philly cops is they're supposed to do their paperwork in places that tend to get a lot of shady activities.

My first assignment was in Kensington, which led the city in drugs and homicides. I took lunch at A & Somerset at 3am every night, just to fuck with the dealers. Id just sit there for a half hour, have a snack, and ruin their business. Good times.

I suspect you might know my brother then, Wyatt. He started in the 24th in 91. Rode with Timmy Simpson for a while. Now a Sgt in the 2nd.

205 can we just stipulate that the Mayor of Philly is a fkn idiot.

206 Robocop! Wow, he and Alek Skarlatos, Spencer Stone, and Anthony Sadler should meet up. They could be like the Avengers or something!

207 The Mayor pretty much apologized for the entire Muslim faith because one of his officers got shot.

Quit apologizing for these murderous bastards, whether their Muslim, Christian, Mormon, Buddhist, or whatever.

Again, Trump is right, we are ruled by really stupid people.

208 Can someone find out it this rabid animal was on the 'no-fly-list'. Please That is another artificial metric used by the gun grabbers (to hell with due process) Just to illustrate the absurdity of the logic of 'common sense gun control.

This case proves we dont need gun control, we need criminal control.

Ya never know, Skip.

210 The biggest story with this shooting is the fact that the Mayor vehemently insisted, repeatedly, that the attack had "nothing what so ever to do with Islam." WTF!!! The ISIS supporter said he did it IN THE NAME OF ISLAM. Un-Effing-believeable. The mindless convoluting and lying in the name of PC going on here.

Ace: You need to get your shit together and stop worrying about what your Connecticut neighbors say about you at parties. YOU TOTALLY MISSED THE BIGGEST DEAL WITH THIS WHOLE INCIDENT. Pull your head out, Pal.

Posted by: FrancisChalk at January 08, 2016 05:54 PM (NNPA3)

211 One man can commit terrorism. There is a federal crime on the books. If you burn a cross on someone's lawn, with terroristic intent, you can be charged as a terrorist -- no need of overseas coconspirators.

Evidently if you burn grassland on your ranch, you can and will be charged with terrorism.
