Out With The Old ANd In With The New - Niedermeyers Dead Horse

As demonstrated below, 2015 was a brutal year.

But hang in there! Things are bound to get better!

I know. I know. You thought 2015 would be better than 2014 and 2014 better than 2013 , and it wasn't. STILL, I am not willing to march headlong into this new year with anything less than optimism.

We can never give up. We must determine to overcome! Even when it feels like we are bashing our heads in, we can never give up!

Brighter days are just around the corner!

All the very best to you and yours for 2016.

21 Happy New Year!!

We decided to create a new tradition of going to IHOP for New Year's breakfast, and apparently, everyone else in town has that tradition as well-it was packed. But a great start to a new year that hopefully won't be worse than the one we finished. At least no one had major health issues in my family last year, so I count that as a huge blessing.

I hope all of the morons have a wonderful, prosperous year.

40 In my personal life 2016 may well be a fine year but I fear that for our country as founded and quite likely for the entire globe it will make 2009-15 look tame.

But the world survived the great depression and kicked the NAZIs into the dustbin; we will survive what comes; I just expect it is likely to be quite a bumpy ride.

42 Funny how everyone seems to be down on 2015. That was the year everything finally changed for me after being stuck in a dead end job for almost two decades. I started a new career working from home and living in a new state not up to its eyeballs in leftardiness. Turned out to be the best year I've had in a long, long time.

Just goes to show even in the midst of living under sellout republican turdbags, a fucktarded Obama presidency and half a nation of utter gimme gimme shitfaces, you can still etch out a happy living with hard work and lots of prayers.

54 Saw an ad on the tube last night by Google. It was a tribute/celebration to all the wonderful things that happened in 2015 especially things like gay marriage, Caitlyn Jenner, welcoming Syrian refugees, some blathering by Obama and on and on. Could not have a bigger "F-U conservatives" if it was in big, bold letters on the screen. People running that company are hard-core progs and all to happy to piss off half the country instead of just being maintaining a discreet silence about their politics.. Really wish there was some way to 100% avoid their product short of going off-line. Can't wait until the SJW's start taking a more active interest in the racial make-up of their workforce (about 99% white and Asian), not to mention their huge profits and paychecks that need be taxed more fairly to help the children.

Hope your New Year's was good! My daughter suggested it, because she and her co-workers go there after they finish long shifts with her Audio/Visual job at the university. So props to her! 106 84-I have been doing research into civilian life in Eastern Europe during the 30's and 40's, which only got worse after living in Warsaw for two years. So, a doctorate in WWII history is probably what I would focus on. Absolutely worthless on the market, but would somewhat justify the vast amount of money I spend on books. I also would give my eyeteeth to have a look at any of the old Soviet documents from the era-most of those haven't been released, and it would be awesome to have that as my research focus. I enjoy teaching, but the current state of universities scares me a bit. I think you are very brave to do it!

130 Well some things went right in 2016 - Katy high school - where I have been a season ticket holder for 12 years - won the Texas state championship (6A D2) as well as the (mythical Unicorn) Consensus National Championship. Katy beat two previously undefeated teams in the last two rounds of the Texas playoffs by a combined score of 72-7.

Katy scored 778 points while their defense allowed only 62 points in 16 games. The Katy defense registered 10 shutouts on the year with the fourth string defense closing out 9 of them. The starters, 2nd and third teams actually shut out 12 teams but the fourth string allowed two scores (one field goal and one TD) on the season - losing two of those shutouts. The Katy defense out scored 5 opposing offenses and tied the Lake Travis offense in the state championship game with a TD for each. The Katy defense held Lake Travis to 42 points below their season average.

That sounds awesome! But I don't think you need to be enrolled in a degree program in order to study what you love. There isn't a whole lot of economic sense in getting a Ph.D unless you really plan on teaching at the university level, or otherwise being engaged in some serious historical scholarship, I think. Teaching at the university doesn't require bravery really, but it can be discouraging. I think that if you were to teach at the university, you'd likely be asked to teach introductory history classes, with a class full of students who wouldn't know what the Magna Carta was if it bit them in the ass, and they really don't care either. That is the sad part. You have a few really bright students who make it worthwhile but they are vastly outnumbered by the slackers and the dopes who have no business being in college in the first place.

Lol-daughter had western civ this past semester, and had a truly great professor teaching it. They bonded because he had lived in Poland, playing basketball, and they would talk about life in Warsaw. Apparently she did really well in the class, because he begged her to consider a history minor, if not fully changing to a history major. Since she is already double majoring, it's not an option, but she felt really proud, because-"Listening to you rant, Mom, finally paid off."

And she said that the other kids in the class were hopeless clods. They had no clue of anything going on during the semester.

153 It hasn't been all that long that they've started being able to fix spinal problems.

I remember long ago that getting anything done to your spine was just about always a recipe for eventual disaster.

That scared a lot of people off from having it done.

And I had relatives that had it done back then and it did turn out poorly. They had just as much pain as before and with less mobility so it was a lose, lose.

I'm guessing they've changed how they operate and what they do over the years and now there's better outcomes.

We were never meant to be bipedal. Puts a whole lot of stress on bones that aren't made for it.

And we're living longer with less exercise so that doesn't help either.

That was the main reason I waited so long. The idea of them cutting and screwing and doing other stuff to my spine was a tad off putting given the success rate.

But they have come a long way and the success rate is much, much better. They had me out of the bed and walking hours after the surgery which really shocked me. And in 2 weeks I'll be in the Keys fishing so it was definitely worth it.

177 130 Well some things went right in 2016 - Katy high school - where I have been a season ticket holder for 12 years - won the Texas state championship (6A D2) as well as the (mythical Unicorn) Consensus National Championship. Katy beat two previously undefeated teams in the last two rounds of the Texas playoffs by a combined score of 72-7.Katy scored 778 points while their defense allowed only 62 points in 16 games.

Mind you, this was spoken in the most common-place, affectionate terms ever, like she was talking about his giant cowlick or taste for hotsauce and sardines.

High school football in Texas is a huge deal; there were over 55,000 people at the State Championship game.

The Season tickets at Katy are really hard to get - there is a waiting list - mostly people have to die for seats to open up. Over 85% of Katy's 10,000 seat high school stadium is reserved for season tickets.

The Katy QB, Garrett Doiron, in 2015 pulled off an unusual double; he was also a starting pitcher for the Texas All Star baseball team which won the National Championship in the tournament in Oklahoma in June. Not too many people win two National Championships in two different sports in the same year.

As a QB he broke Andy Dalton's Katy career TD mark and Garrett also holds the career % completion and total yardage records. Considering that Walter Peyton award winner Bo Levi Mitchell who won the MVP in the Gray Cup in the Canadian Football league last year - also played QB at Katy - holding those records is no small feat.

The process of doom and American decay will continue, perhaps accelerate, but I hope our personal lives will bring us some joy.
I am thankful for AoSHQ, where at least I can get the gravy of hilarity poured on the mashed potatoes of national catastrophe.

Laughter really is the best medicine --- and the Devil hates it. Hah!

242 For those who can't comprehend what high school football is like in Texas - I'll give you one story that can sum it up for you.

Last spring I went the intra-squad Katy spring training game; the guy sitting in back of me was Andy Dalton's dad. He doesn't have anyone going to the school anymore - but it was a Katy game so he was there to see what the team would have in 2015.

246 Although Daddy taught me not to jump into a dogfight, may I suggest a small compromise? Bruce, since the short link you use gives no clue, it might be a courteous heads-up to note that it goes to Facebook, for those of us who don't.

247 How does one actually join the Yahoo group? When I click through it sticks me in the About tab and says I can't even look at that (must be a member). There's no option to join.

248 I don't fret about the year over year decline in your standard of living, the more it declines the more people wake up to ugly political reality that is causing it.
