Good morning all.
Ringing out the old year, 1943 artillery style: Dec 31, 1943 - The EZ Dog Journals Cold, rainy, windy. The worst day we've had yet. Little action on either side. 3d and 45th Divisions both reverted to 5th Army control. 6 Armd Inf moving into line. Serenade of all the guns in II Corps at midnight ushered the old year out and the new year in. All the guns in II Corps? I'll bet that was a sight to behold. (The unit realignments Dad mentions here are in preparation for the upcoming Anzio invasion. I would say that there is a 50/50 chance you see the end of the GOP as a national party.
Once it becomes apparent that a non establishment approved Candidate is going to get the nomination, the reaction by the party leadership will determine the party's outcome. If they throw every roadblock in the way of the nominee, I believe the national party will disolve before the election takes place. Trying to broker the convention when there is a clear nominee will kill the GOP. And just for the record, I believe Trump will be the nominee. He has what it takes to win. Cruz comes close but not close enough. Posted by: Tim in Illinois. Old and Unimproved. at December 31, 2015 08:05 AM (WVsWD) Posted by: rickb223 at December 31, 2015 08:06 AM (5kNms) 43

Posted by: @votermom at December 31, 2015 08:17 AM If there is a Wall Street "meltdown" next year -- and I agree the likelihood is pretty strong -- it will be hard to tell if it is triggered by GOPe-loving manipulation or plain ol' reality. Thinking about that 12 year old kid that was shot in Cleveland and I keep reading reports the kid was dressed in camouflage. Last year my kids played in a city basketball league (never again) and there were more than a few negligent parents that used to show up, some with their pants below their ass and all the attitude that goes with it. One kid, probably about 12 that used to show up to watch with his parents was always in camouflage and black and plenty of strutting around and loud, intimidating trash talk. That was no 12 y.o. child, it was a 12 y.o. thug in training. I imagine that Cleveland kid was along the same lines and it would not surprise me if they both meet the same fate.
What sort of parent lets kids dress like that and carry that type of attitude? And then be surprised when something bad happens? These are not innocent little kids or even mischievous boys being boys. I initially thought the cops were at fault here but thinking back on that kid from basketball it seems to be another case of "live like a thug, die like a thug". As the nation prepares to ring in the New Year, President Barack Obama is preparing a colossal new executive action that could print-up work permits for a huge number of foreign white-collar graduates every year, above and beyond the levels set by Congress.
This executive action, which directly bypasses Congressional lawmakers, is likely to reverberate across the presidential race, as GOP voters look to choose a nominee they believe will most effectively roll back the Presidents still-expanding agenda. And it will certainly raise new security concerns as it covers categories of immigration utilized by migrants from the Middle East and nearby regions. But to counter that the RINOs and SHILLs in Congress passed a budget giving that prick everything he wanted? CUE THE SHILL Posted by: Nevergiveup at December 31, 2015 08:30 AM (DUoqb) 103
Predictions for the new year:
The GOP will ram through amnesty and a whole bunch of other crap once it becomes apparent Trump will win the nomination, they will lose the senate because that what they want anyways and Trump/Cruz will win the White House where they will be fought tooth and nail by Senate Democrats and House Republicans for four years. Regardless I hear the GOP is furiously working on "criminal sentencing reform" so we have more criminal democrat voters on the street to look forward to just in time for elections. This executive action could have been prevented, however, had the bipartisan 2016 omnibus funding included language proposed by Immigration Subcommittee Chairman Sen. They have no respect for laws, property, humanity, nor any other code of civil behavior which allows large numbers of people to live in relative peace inclose proximity to each other. Whether they were taught and then rejected, or were never taught these values to begin with is a completely separate discussion of how they got to where they are, not a discussion of what they are. I don't think the GOP would have had to impeach Obama just publicly fight and oppose him, get in front of the cameras day in and day out, make the case to the American people, send him tough votes even if he vetoes them, put him on record, confront and fight him where and when you can. If they had done that he never would have gotten a second term and Donald Trump would certainly not be threatening to blow the whole thing up.
But the GOP is a scam, a CON, it's not a legitimate political party and this has rendered the political term "conservatism or conservative" practically and functionally meaningless. Donald Trump's not conservative? Do go on! And Paul Ryan is conservative? How Exactly? And Mike Lee is Conservative? He's the lead GOP Senator pushing "Criminal Justice Reform" And Ted Cruz is conservative? How exactly, I could bring up many of his disasterous votes and Pre-Trump positions but you get the point. Saw "The Hateful Eight" yesterday.
It's a truly grand meh. Tarantino clearly had some leftover "Django" stuff(mostly racial animus/revenge) he thought was cinematic gold!!! but no plot so he stuffed it into- an Agatha Christie-style Drawing Room Mystery like "Murder on the Orient Express" or "And Then There Were None". or He wanted to do an Agatha Christie-style Drawing Room Mystery Tarantino-style but good, solid mystery writing is haaaaaarrrrrd and so he stuffed it in lieu of plot with leftovers fallen from the "Django" table. A Drawing Room Mystery would seem to be a good fit for Tarantino given his ability to write interesting/fun/humorous dialogue but.... Nope. It's his worst dialogue since the first half of "Death Proof"....only stretched out for 3 hours. The form of the Drawing Room Mystery remains, up to and including- MILD SPOILER AHEAD Samuel L Jackson channeling Miss "MuthaFucka" Marple for an explanation of the murders with all the suspect in the same room. And seems to end the whole thing with a weird call for the dawn of a new age where all men of good will and character gather together...to serially abuse nasty-ass, mouthy, white bitches, I guess. Perhaps Tarantino longs for the caliphate. I don't know. MILD SPOILERS OVER Anyway, the whole thing is a weird cobbled together Frankenstein of Blood and Boredom. "The Hateful Eight" could easily easily have an hour to an one and a half cut out of it, and still get everything done in a much better manner. You remember when M. Night Shyamalan was a thing- until his movies became more about stuffing in MNS-tropes rather than telling a story? Yeah, that. This movie is "The Happening" bad. But, on the upside, the murders in "The Hateful Eight" aren't committed by trees. See it on cable. Posted by: naturalfake at December 31, 2015 08:57 AM (KUa85) 171

For years, stocks have been propped up by bogus claimed and nonexistent money, IMO. There's a huge bubble there, just waiting to burst. And when it does, it will not be pretty. . . . .The Fed injected ~ $3 Trillion into the Market with Quantitative Easing and they have to pull that money out sometime. Morning. I don't know why, but the story about DOJ declining prosecution of the two VA executives has bugged me more than the countless other stories of corruption in this administration. I think it's the fact that the VA actually did the right thing by referring the matter to DOJ, and then DOJ is like nahhhhh, nothing to see here.

Not sure it is worth the effort since all of the big prizes have been phased out. But occasionally I find winning tickets that the buyer missed. So, lucky me! A trucker stops in for coffee and the waitress asks him if he wants milk with it. There is a generation of children being raised in our midst, who look upon other members of humanity as nothing but prey.
They have no respect for laws, property, humanity, nor any other code of civil behavior which allows large numbers of people to live in relative peace inclose proximity to each other. ===== From a "street" perspective, I once spoke at length with a career criminal in jail about that. His opinion, FWIW, was that many are crack babies, grown up with little impulse control and typically using drugs of their own choice. He thought of them as the most violent and that it was the responsibility of the.... erm, street community? to 'take them out' for simple self-protection since the police wouldn't do it. I was never really big on celebrating on NYE-mainly because to go out costs too much money and I'm not a big drinker. Many of the churches I have served have a pot luck dinner followed by a worship service and it's also over by about 8;30 or so. It's very nice. This church is not having that. This year I am going to an 11:00 prayer and holy communion service at another church followed by (non alcoholic) refreshments which seems a good way to end the year. Prediction for 2016:
2016 will be the last year for the thin veneer of sanity and civility in our country. The effects of mass delusion and irresponsibility will not be able to be contained after that. If Hillary wins it will happen with her encouragement. If by some chance a Republican wins they will not be able to contain it if they even bother to try. In fact, any serious attempts to correct the many grave problems will just provoke the left's insanity. 2017 will be the beginning of the "interesting times" Posted by: Hand of Count Petofi at December 31, 2015 09:33 AM (1BQGO) 251

On the other hand, if a rooster identifies as a female cow, who are you haters to say he can't give milk? Posted by: Illiniwek at December 31, 2015 09:35 AM (5Gpe2) 254

Nice song, Grammie! I like his voice.
I get an email from the Trump campaign about twice a week. It just tells me where the rallies will be or if there's a new position paper out. It does not beg me for money, but does tell me I can buy a Make America Great ball cap. It's a refreshing change. I did get one email asking people to volunteer for the campaign. That's why people in Gotti's neighborhood and his area of control 'liked' him. Unauthorized street crime was dealt with. I can imagine the poor neighbor who accidentally ran over Gotti's son when the little bastard ran out in traffic didn't end up liking him. Rumor has it Gotti took a blowtorch to the guy. Pennsylvania primary is not until May, thus probably moot.
Is it better to stay Dem to make a meaningless protest vote against Hillary, or re-register as Rep to make a meaningless protest vote against Trump? Has the AoSHQ Decision Desk projected that far ahead? Posted by: Spellcheck at December 31, 2015 09:40 AM (j+aWk) 264

That's why people in Gotti's neighborhood and his area of control 'liked' him. Unauthorized street crime was dealt with. Posted by: Max Rockatansky at December 31, 2015 09:27 AM (AC18V) When I was a wee tad, we moved to New Orleans. About two streets over, there lived a mafia guy. Probably, not very high on the totem pole but high enough. A house one street over got burgled in a big way. TV stolen, etc, etc. The two days later, the owners of that house awoke to find their stolen items on their front door step. And that was all that anyone ever heard about the robbery. Not that those guys are great guys or anything but they do tend to take any crime in "their" neighborhoods rather personally. Posted by: naturalfake at December 31, 2015 09:41 AM (KUa85) 266

"When [Hillary] plays the woman card, she opens herself up to attack" Which Democrat Party voters couldn't care less about. It's about the will to power. Progressives would vote Stalin for President if he was on the ticket; they don't care.
You also have to worry about GOPe idiots like Will and JPod, who would rather vote Hillary than Trump in 2016. Posted by: gp at December 31, 2015 09:42 AM (mk9aG) 268

Pretty much I think that those we thought might be conservative or conservative light like Gowdy will line up with the Rubio/Ryan gang. Paul Ryan intends to run for President after this election and he is lining up his team. The new GOPe will be like the old GOPe, only younger. Nothing changes and mostly the support for Obama's agenda in the Omnibus will continue. Good people like Sessions who apparently reads or is informed about legislation and cares about the constitution, the rule of law and the country and want to prevent this insane invasion by illegals, guest workers, visa seekers of all stripes, will stand virtually alone. I don't know where Cruz will end up. The Speakers blog is a bunch of Ryan vanity postings. I hope Trump does to Rubio/Ryan what he's been doing to all the opposition. If he gets the chance. 2 cents. ""When [Hillary] plays the woman card, she opens herself up to attack"
Which Democrat Party voters couldn't care less about. It's about the will to power." yeah, but it will play with the non progressive. The hard core left are a lost cause. And some that don't usually vote may be angry enough about Hillary the "protector of rapist", that they go out and vote Trump. And there are the union states that like the America First chant better than the globalist vision of outsourcing all production, or importing cheap labor. They are blue collar and if on the fence, this issue helps. And even some progressives imo, see the problems with the open borders crowd. But it is never about winning the hard core from the other side. The left has been winning by being especially vile/bold toward traditional America ... racists, bigots, sexist, etc. They embrace hate of the core on the other side. Not really a drinker, but I have to commend Troeg's Mad Elf Ale from Hershey, PA. 11% alcohol by volume. Seasonal, and probably sold out, but if you see it, try it.
"The holidays at Troegs start with our inner Mad Elf momentarily taking over the brew deck. So blame him for this cheerful ruby red creation reminiscent of ripened cherries, raw honey and cocoa with notes of cinnamon, clove and allspice." Sounds like a frickin' ice cream soda from Sonic, but actually a real brew. My serious beer-drinking pals applauded it. Umlaut on the o, which the comments choked on. I found the Hateful 8 to be good. Every performance was good, and the 70mm roadshow with an overture and intermission is charming. The dialogue is good too. I saw it in a packed theater and chatted with strangers about movies beforehand.
Downside is using these huge cameras to tell a story that could be a play. I can't imagine that this project was conceived as a single set piece. Posted by: bourbonchicken at December 31, 2015 10:00 AM (1s3QT) 278
