GOP Will Fight For Pause in Refugee Resettlement, Until Background Checks Are Actually Functional

As Instapundit says: a proposal from Trump moves from "crazy" to "policy" in just a month.

I have a lot of concerns about Trump, but his I-don't-care-for-respectable-opinion attitude is, even his fierce critics must admit, a wonderful thing.

Our national policy discussion has become stultified, stilted, and hyperstylized, like the rituals of disagreement among the Japanese, to the point where no one can say what they think. And the people mediating this discussion-- deciding what is permissible, what is impermissible, and what is so impermissible it warrants the full power of social destruction -- are all of the hard left.

No one can or should agree to play a game by rules which are explicitly designed to cause his losing everything, always.

We've become too polite, too politic, and too protective of our status position within the left's hierarchy of morals and ethics conferring social standing.

Even Mark Kirk: @Tsrblke points out that Mark Kirk, a very RINOy RINO from Illinois, is spearheading this.

It's only "wonderful" if, like you and me and all of us here, one is in the same half of the political spectrum as Trump. He's doing the heavy lifting for us.

To all the commies in the other half, Trump's attitude and ability to shift the Overton Window is just about The Worst Thing Ever.

Posted by: zombie at December 30, 2015 04:27 PM (jBuUi)

23 That said, I do love the fact that Trump is so non-PC, frank and 'crude' (as the elites in DC love to point out to us, every five minutes or so).

25 Basic argumentation. Never accept any premise as the argumentative starting point.

The GOP does this. They accept the fake issues, hyperbole and feigned outrage- then respond to it. You never win like that. From that point on you're on defense.

Trump just crushes the entire premise and argues on his own terms. He changes the argument and gives no credibility to their premise.

Meanwhile the GOP geniuses can't figure out why they always take it up the squeak-hole.

It's really a beautiful thing to watch.

Someone ask Trump if he thought his "affairs" were fair game. Trump's response? "Absolutely.

The reporter just blinked.

30 We've become too polite, too politic, and too protective of our status position within the left's hierarchy of morals and ethics conferring social standing.

This.

One of the foundational issues underpinning the rage that much of the Base has towards the Establishment (brushing with broad strokes of course) is that the excuse of but but but if we use the power of the purse or push for repeal of Obamacare or implement the existing immigration laws or cut funding to the IRS or whatever we will lose power misses what the base considers the entire point of having power, namely to roll back the destruction of the Constitutional order.

What is the point of working and fighting and striving to win elections if the game is still played by the rules of the Left?

Simple. Only let in Christians and Yazidi that are vetted.

Better Yet, establish safe refugee camps in Syria and Iraq. If they cannot be made safe, KSA has thousands of miles of desert and billions of dollars. Make them and the gulf states pick up the tab. The bastards financed ISIS/ISIL that started the bloodletting.

Yep. It's by far his best quality.

I think we have gotten to the point where no one would fight back, speak the truth, so now we have Trump, who does it all the time, but he does it in his tacky used car salesman way. And he has the celebrity and money to do it without being drummed out of public life. It shouldn't have to be this way, but it is. I don't know where we go from here, but a lot more unpleasant truths from a lot more people being spoken out loud would be nice.

Union printers are on strike and the presses shut down while the building is surrounded by pickets. Checks bounced, account overdrawn, post office sent the mail to Schenectady instead of Sandusky, power is out, and #BLM is having a protest and every cop within fifty miles is over at the mall.

Why that's just an irrational fear! I mean it's not like 19 foreigners came to the country and flew planes into buildings killing 3000 people. And certainly not like a husband and his immigrant wife went and shot up his place of employment. Just all irrational fears stoked by Trump you know.

Not just the commies. Plenty of organisms ostensibly "On Our Side" find Trump to be Worse Than the Worst. See the Witches of Salem for a prime example.

I would suggest those who are in the "I still don't like Trump, but..." crowd wake up and smell the excrement: he has done what no other Republican has the balls to do, and this is to draw meaningful lines between that which is right, patriotic and good for THIS country, and the hateful, treasonous babblings of those committed to selling us out.

And, BTW, no other Republican has joined him in doing this. Not Cruz, not Heb!, not Rubio or Shuckabee.

That was me before Trump started getting results even though he isn't even in the primaries yet. He's been forcing the GOPe back toward some semblance of common sense (even as they continuously whinge about having to do so and pretend it isn't Trump forcing them) and shoving the Left's pseudo-shame culture up their asses.

It's not just entertaining any more: it's what the damn country needs. A political enema.

Whether or not this train has brakes has yet to be seen, but whatever happens, he's been undeniably good for the country.

208 I hope I'm wrong about Trump. All I see him doing since he entered the race is taking away face time that would have gone to Cruz. I don't see Cruz winning the primary now because he hasn't had the opportunity to state his case like he would have without The Donald. Cruz would have been the designated conservative rabble rouser that grabbed the base. Not so much anymore.

Admittedly Trump will grab more LIV vote than Cruz could have hoped to get.

This.

I would add, however, there is no going back to the GOP until they have assumed a Trumpian mindset on every single issue they "vow to fight". To the end, polls be damned, donors be damned. They have visited the Biggest of Burns and Betrayals on their voters and this is one that will never support them until they start fixing what they joined in the Left and 'rats in breaking. Or lay bloodied and dying trying.

These short-sighted elites have shat on the Founding Fathers' great creation and every veteran that has fought for it and every supporter that believed their words and promises in seeking to preserve it. That stink will be nigh impossible to remove. Well, one would have thought it nigh impossible to so weaken the US in 7 years but they did that. So they know they can do it. If they can do that, they can do the reverse. Think Reagan.
