Bill Cosby Charged with Felony Indecent Assault

Good.

Here's a flashback via Yid with Lid" a former NBC employer said in 2014 the network used him as a conduit to women hush money to keep quiet about Bill Cosby's predations.

Back when Bill Cosby was the king of network television, veteran NBC employee Frank Scotti served as the royal fixer.

When Cosby invited young models into his Brooklyn dressing room, the megastar’s pal stood watch outside the door. When the married Cosby sought a Queens apartment for another pretty face, Scotti arranged the deal.

And when the man behind Fat Albert needed cash disbursed to his flock of single female friends -- hey, hey, hey -- Scotti became the conduit for payments of up to $2,000 a month.

Funny? Bill Cosby on his arraignment walk.

9 This will go badly for Bill Cosby.

PA has a 12-year statute of limitations for this, unlike most state where it'd be 3 to 5 years.

The accuser made a complaint after it happened eleven years ago, but authorities didn't pursue a "he said / she said" case against a Local Hero Celebrity.

Like many states, PA has an exception in these kinds of cases to let in testimony about other similar cases, so it'll be ten or twenty women testifying about how Cosby drugged them and then fiddled about.

No matter how the jury gets picked I don't see Cosby getting a jury nullification like the one OJ Simpson got. Cosby didn't racially discriminate with his victims, and the jury won't either.

Only question is how fast this case moves.

20 Here is the difference between boys and girls.

I have only had one half of one quaalude in my life. I had thrown a party at the beginning of which I had a sort of girlfriend who would use her hand on me.

Then a girl gave me the half a quaalude and I woke up having actual sex with her. She became my new girlfriend.

I do not espouse reversing the genders here. Just saying that boys and girls are different.

Not even close to being a Cosby fan, but this seems to be a pretty shaky case. Lots of "he said/she said," allegations that can't be proved and questions (yes, like the proverbial "why did she wait so long?") that can't be honestly answered.

If he's actually provably guilty, I'd love to see him bundled off to the pen. But there is that pesky "innocent until proven" guilty thing that ought to protect him until a jury decides, even if he is a jerk.

Posted by: Mr Scribbler at December 30, 2015 03:01 PM (z/vax)

34 "Like many states, PA has an exception in these kinds of cases to let in
testimony about other similar cases, so it'll be ten or twenty women
testifying about how Cosby drugged them and then fiddled about."

Let's just remind ourselves here that during the Lewinsky imbroglio, Bill Clinton found himself up against a federal law which similarly allows the testimony of other accusers to be brought into a sexual harassment case.

The kicker? Clinton himself had signed that bill into law, earlier on in his Presidency, as payoff to his lefty feminista allies for staunchly supporting him despite his goatish sexual behavior.

Clinton then had his attorneys argue that, well, yes, while Billy Jeff had in fact personally signed the bill in question into law, it was unfitting and unseemly for that law to be applied to the person of a sitting President. A novel legal theory that was appealed all the way to the SCOTUS, who promptly rejected it in one of those rare 9-0 verdicts. Not even the most liberal of the Justices were able to swallow what the HillBillies were trying to get down their throats.

36 I don't really get why this is "good." At best, at this point, its "neutral." Its not like this is a nazi war criminal on the run or George Soros whose entire life has been dedicated to Bond Villain-level evil. Is he guilty? I dunno, reports sure make it seem that way, but can you trust the media that hates him and the prosecutor that's trying to win a case?

I'm going to let the case play itself out before I reach my own conclusions.

What we do know is that Cosby has been quite vocal recently about how the black community is responsible for its own mess.

Does that have anything to do with him being prosecuted now? I don't know. People who are already judging him don't know either.

If the family on the Cosby Show were militant leftists, Cosby would be feted like Roman Polanski.

Whatever Cosby's politics are, he earned the wrath of the NAACP grievance industry and the show itself was anti the narrative.

It - and therefore he - had to be destroyed by whatever means necessary.

That does in no way exonerate Cosby for what he might have done. Just stating the obvious politics of the whole thing.

In at least one instance I can recall, one of thewomen said she was having drinks with Cosby anddidn't know she was being drugged until she started feeling woozy and, well, drugged. The drug use was not consensual. The sex--or whatever Cosby allegedly did to her while she was out of it--was not consensual. That is, if the woman is telling the truth.

This is where it gets tricky. I think Cosby's army of lawyers will have a hard time proving all of the women making these claims are lying, although it's a good bet at least one of the 20+ claimants is making afalse allegation in orderto claim a stake in civil litigation. Perhaps Cosby's legal team hopes that finding and exposing onefraudulent claim will put all of the others in doubt.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of us spend too much time thinking otherwise.

Posted by: X at December 30, 2015 03:22 PM (57fhp)

91 This is where it gets tricky.
Posted by: troyriser at December 30, 2015 03:21 PM (cCEFD)

Yeah, who knows?

But if any of these girls were raped they should have gone to the police. It's impossible to verify or dismiss any of their claims at this point.

Cosby most likely won't win a defamation suit. But I don't know either way.

As for his criminal charges? Depends whats on those transcripts from the civil suit.

92 Democrats are really coming down on people they don't like. Martin Shrekli wasn't a saint, but charging him with fraud is a stretch. Cosby's being punished not for his alleged crimes, but for his statements about blacks - this is a very long shot charge for a conviction.

101 Rape cases defy many of the basic principles of criminal law, including on the key element of intent. For many crimes, the judge or jury are asked to look inside the head of the perpetrator. If he intended to kill, it's murder. If not, the same act may only be manslaughter.

With rape, judge or jury are asked to look inside the head of the victim: did she consent?

Mike Tyson never heard the Pageant Winner say no, and to this day probably believes he was innocent.

Yep. It's also worth noting, the "rumors" of sexual perversity in Hollywood are vast, and if we knew some of the likely truths it would shock most of us who are not easily shocked.

If Cosby was targeted (and possibly framed) for his politics, we have seen that sort of thing elsewhere in this world. Fascist dictatorships and third world shitholes tend to operate with selective enforcement of the law, based on whether one is in or out of favor with the powers that be.

It's very ... victorian... to think women cannot consent after one drink and are thus victims, yet men can get as trashed as they want, and are still perpetrators.

In other words -- if a college guy had 14 drinks, and the girl had 2 drinks, they go back to her room and have sex -- he raped her.

In fact, I didn't even know it existed until much later when I saw people retrospectively refer to it as some kind of mega-important show in TV history. I was like, "Bill Cosby had a TV show?"

In my mind, Bill Cosby is a guy who did stand-up comedy and asked "What Is Air?" and told stories about a kid he once knew named Fat Albert. That's it.

Everything he did after that was completely unknown to me, and remains so. Consequently, he plays an extremely minor role -- if any role at all -- in my imagination of what America's cultural landscape looks like.

well I don't particularly care either. I just don't understand how anyone can do anything, even if they were raped, at this point.

If you don't report a crime to the police, or have any kind of contemporaneous record of it happening, and wait 30 years to mention it to anyone -- I mean, what are people supposed to do with that information?

249 I Spy was pretty lame, at least after the first season, but it was kind of groundbreaking.

Cosby's comedy records were really, really funny and he's still got it. His delivery is what makes it work, of course. But the guy has timing and a mind that finds the funny. But talent doesn't make everything okay.

PS Cosby should try the affluenza defense. Or the defense used by that UK rich muzzie, that got away with claiming he tripped and fell dick first into a woman.

The Cosby Show was late, late Cosby. I grew up with "Bill Cosby is a very funny fellow, right?" and "Why is there Air?" as vinlyl albums.

People make a big deal about Kirk kissing Uhuru, but Cosby was the first black man cast as an equal lead in I Spy with Robert Culp, and he was the sophisticate who spoke all the languages.

The Bill Cosby Show '69-'71 is the earliest I can remember him.

Posted by: Bandersnatch at December 30, 2015 02:58 PM (1xUj/)

I think I get your point. One of the differences between boys and girls is that boys are more likely to "want it" under many different circumstances. If a girl says she doesn't want to go all the way, she probably means it for a couple of different reasons. She doesn't want to feel like a slut. She doesn't want to get pregnant. She doesn't "love " you. She doesn't want to get an STD. It has to mean something to her more than just a good roll in the hay.

Giving a girl drugs so she stops resisting is just wrong. Here's something to think about. What if a 50 year old man gave your 16 year old son a quaalude and had sex with him? And I'll bet that happens more than we think.

The sad thing about Cosby, is that with all his money and fame, he should have been able to get all he wanted without drugs. I think that some celebrities get the idea that the rules don't apply to them.

That's actually how all this broke. Most black comedians have a story about getting "The Call" from Cosby. (Eddie Murphy had the best. He called Pryor, who said "are they laughing? are they paying you?").

So a very marginal comic named Hannibal Burress got The Call. He went on stage and said "you know, if you google 'Bill Cosby rape' you'll get more hits than if you google 'Hannibal Burress'".

Then he repeated that on Howard Stern. Then people googled "Bill Cosby rape".

306 I don't understand why a woman who has twice had a man make unwanted sexual advances to her (including one time when he unbuttoned her pants) would go to that man's home and then take pills he offered her, not knowing what they were.

I mean, this woman knew that Cosby literally wanted to get in her pants, so why was she being so foolish? It would be crazy to swallow pills anybody handed you, without knowing what they were, but to take pills offered to you by a man who had twice before laid hands on you and tried to feel you up, without your consent, just seems incredibly reckless. And this was a grown woman, not some naive kid.

At least some of the other women accusers, like Beverly Johnson, didn't willingly take the drugs. Johnson said Cosby slipped hers into a coffee drink. But this woman from Temple (whose assault is the basis for the arrest) just accepted three pills from Cosby and swallowed them, because he told her they'd make her feel better. What rational adult would do that?

(And I'm not trying to blame this woman for the assault. Cosby's actions, if proven, were criminal and deserve punishment. I'm just amazed that an adult woman would behave as recklessly with a predatory man as this woman did).

The cops let them go even after they crossed the route, but a dude behind us spoke pretty good Spanish and heckled them until they left.)

Anyway...I'd file it among "do once, but not sure ever again." It was cold even though they let us use fire pits. The drunk watching was fun and it was an experience, but walking forever to find a bathroom was a PITA and there's like a million people packed in a mile or so.

A tox screen will show what is there. Leaving the identifications off the report is something else.

That's not exactly true. Its meticulous and expensive to test for everything, so they usually just look for the most common and likely problems. In the real world, nobody has money and time to do 900 tests on a case like CSI or House shows.

No. TLC is cheap and can detect plenty of things and LC will snag all the drugs and their metabolites with no problem and it does not cost a fortune. LC-MS will id the peaks.

Posted by: nerdygirl at December 30, 2015 04:26 PM (kGrwF)

335 At least some of the other women accusers, like Beverly Johnson, (say they) didn't willingly take the drugs. Johnson said Cosby slipped hers into a coffee drink (because she wouldn't be drinking alcohol cause she be a good woman).

Added some infuriating. :-)

Posted by: scorecard at December 30, 2015 04:27 PM (PGh+Q)

336 With the number of accusers popping up, you have to wonder if it's not the same type of phenomenon that happened in a number of child care molestation cases.

337 >>> evidently George Lucas has announced his dislike of the latest Star Wars movie.

A link was posted at the HQ not long ago about how his ex-wife was the secret behind the heart of his films, and everything she did that made them better. And it's known how the other people involved in the films, like the other writers, made them what they are.

The man has an ego the size of the Death Star. The fact is he can't admit he is a decent world builder but crappy storyteller.

338 In at least one instance I can recall, one of thewomen said she was having drinks with Cosby anddidn't know she was being drugged until she started feeling woozy and, well, drugged. The drug use was not consensual. The sex--or whatever Cosby allegedly did to her while she was out of it--was not consensual. That is, if the woman is telling the truth.

340 "Beverly Johnson" is black.

I expect that a criminal case couldn't be brought on her claims because of a shorter statute of limitations. But you can expect her to testify in the PA case to establish a pattern of behavior by Crosby.

Like I keep saying, Cosby is f*cked.

Posted by: Ignoramus at December 30, 2015 04:33 PM (r1fLd)

341 going up to a man's room to party with him alone changes that equation a little.

Yeah. But in today's world, if you tell your daughter, "Don't do this, this, or this," you are accused of blaming the victim. A girl who gets very drunk is screwing up. A girl who has a couple drinks and goes to a guy's room is screwing up. It's hard to make blanket statements about whether these kinds of incidents are rape or not.

Honestly, I was pretty stupid when I was in college. I sometimes drank too much. I sometimes went to a guy's apartment to watch tv or whatever. No one ever tried to rape me or force his way on me.
I was lucky, in that all of the guys I had contact with were brought up right by their parents.

347 Ok, reading Beverly Johnson's account.

I told him I didn't drink coffee that late in the afternoon because it made getting to sleep at night more difficult. He wouldn't let it go.

OK, this does remind me of something mentioned in 'the gift of fear'. If someone won't take no for an answer on something really innocuous, that's a bad sign.

350 It is the libmedia frenzy, and the person of Gloria Femi-communist All-RED leading the quasi-prosecution, that gives me instinctive sympathy for Mr. Cosby.

That and the fact that all this seems to have come after Bill Cosby exhorted African Americans to leave the welfare and professional victimology plantation the American Left has set up for them. It just seems *too* coincidental as a result....

And I have a hard time seeing these aspiring starlets and party girls as babes in the woods....

That said, say it ain't so, Bill. Cosby's motivation for that show was to show America a "wholesome" and intact upper class black family - words that America in general did not put together in 1985. Blacks and (poor) whites both looked at him and thought "wow, look at what he has achieved!" Not only through "celebrity" but through his ideals for a better world, especially for children in poverty. We respected his actions and opinions even more since he has a Doctorate in Education, which was proudly displayed after his name in the opening credits.

And it wasn't just his Mr. Huxtable character either. Whether imparting lessons on good behavior to (then) kids like me on Saturday morning watching "Fat Albert", or his role as the dignified (and at the time groundbreaking for TV) sidekick on "I Spy", or his stand up comedy routines that used profanity sparingly and only when really necessary for the humor, Mr. Cosby always seemed like a class act.

Even in his truly *awful* TV and movie parts (Ghostdad? Leonard Part 6?) his character was always a good guy.

It is sad to discover he is a creep.
