22 As a southern boy living in NY, I would gauge the end of winter by the 'lingering' ice flow in the Hudson every time I crossed a bridge. If I recall correctly, It wasn't until sometime in March before it was completely free of ice.

23 Well, as you can see, the disadvantage to winter camouflage is obvious. The only concealment requires one to lie in the wet snow. This is why the Finns lost WWII; hypothermia.

Pretty neat.

There are Jews in Israel who want to destroy it, too. And I dont mean the hassidic cults.

The guy at the end name is Yoav Peled. He is an Israeli "intellectual" and he would just turn the state over to the arabs. He shouts over everybody and cant answer a simple question. I tried to find out more about him but didnt find much. I did find the names of other Peleds who are members of the Electric Intifada.
Some of the people in the audience are nuts, too. Made me sick.

197 There's a pretty good article at Breitbart on Gowdy's history of supporting the GOPe's amnesty efforts.

If you haven't seen the PBS special they reference, do watch - it's mainly about Gutierrez's efforts in fighting for his beloved illegals, but it also showcases the Republicans he was partnering with to get a bill passed. Then bam!, everything fell apart when Cantor lost his reelection.

Interestingly, something the Breitbart article should have emphasized but didn't - despite all the passionate/compassionate positions towards "the children" and families here illegally, the whole matter was dropped pretty damn fast by the GOPe et al when reality hit them in the face: REELECTIONS!!

At least I can respect Gutierrez for fighting for illegals even when the odds are against him. Gowdy, Ryan, and the others? Such cowards.

There is a thing in the industry called, 'find the camera' where the person in the background hides from the camera or moves in the background to a place that makes the background person visible to the camera, and it affects the mood of the scene as the foreground actors are doing their foreground acting. It's also 'stealing the scene' by mugging for the camera by drawing the attention of the audience to the clown in the background.

Which of course is why Fuckabee is killing it at the polls.

245 I know all y'all ain't ecologists, or agronomists, or even environmentalists, but the 'damage' to BLM lands from burning sagebrush really mystified me.

Here is BLM's view of 'cheatgrass'.

While cheatgrass has some value as a spring livestock forage, livestock may also make cheatgrass infestations worse by spreading the seeds, and by consuming or damaging competing plant species.

Let us just dismiss that whole feeding of livestock with a wave of our mighty hand, just as we do in California where water gets flushed down the Sacramento instead of being used to grow food crops.

http://preview.tinyurl.com/qzf4ert

There are more important things than feeding beef cattle. Controlling cheatgrass by mowing, tilling, and herbicide. . .. .(evil chemicals, those herbicides, unless they are mandated by environmentalists who are saving the environment.)

These are the people who believe in Darwin's theory, and they believe the environment is whatever it is at the moment they first noticed what it is and it should never change (evolve) and human interference in the environment is unnatural.

Thus, burning sagebrush damages the environment.

260 So a liberal friend I have remained in touch with is heavily involved in intentional save-the-world NGO's and has his own (the dream of every liberal is to have their own, do-nothing NGO that gives them cover to travel the world while looking like they are doing something important while vacationing and burning fossil fuels). I am on their mailing list and receive updates and of course pleas for money.

This particular NGO is dedicate to stamping out malaria in Africa, something a group of white liberals in California are well equipped and qualified to do. They have been distributing mosquito nets for years (spraying DDT, the best proven safe method was banned years ago due to junk science. Other effective chemical methods are not to be used because, well, chemicals). Much to their dismay, the mosquito nets have gone unused because they are too hot and dark. So now they have come up with a mosquito net with a solar powered fan and light. (There is no electricity in this areas, and that would be bad anyway due to global warming, plus the locals must love living their traditional, rustic lives of primitive poverty) They are busy distributing these to 100 families in Ghana and doing studies to show what a wonderful method this is and why I should donate money. Plus no chemicals! Estimated cost per unit with travel and supporting the NGO overhead is about 100 times that annual income of each recipient.

Comedy gold. This is not from the Onion. You can't make this stuff up.

Approach her with care. She travels with others of her kind in a small clan lurking in the misty hills of New England. Have a treat or two at the ready lest you lose a finger or two.

395 (Today is the 150th anniversary of the birth of British writer Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936), England's "Poet of Empire." Born in Bombay, India, the son of an English artist and museum curator in Lahore, Kipling was educated in England but came back to India in 1880 to begin his writing career as a journalist on an Anglo-Indian newspaper. Returning to England in 1889, he brought with him a wealth of experience in the Raj and turned it into highly successful stories about the British Army in India and that country's exotic local color. His best known works are the early Jungle Book (1894) and Kim (1901), plus poems such as "Recessional," "If," "The Road to Mandalay," and "Tommy." Kipling was awarded the Nobel prize for literature in 1907, but he continued writing prolifically until the last years of his life 30 years later. His son John was killed in World War One, which significantly darkened his subsequent world-view. As the most prominent literary exponent of Victorian and Edwardian imperialism, Kipling is widely dismissed today as a politically incorrect anachronism - but he still retains a respectful following. In his Just So Stories (1902), he wrote, "I keep six honest serving men (They taught me all I knew); Their names are What and Why and When And How and Where and Who."
--------------------------
It is always a temptation to an armed and agile nation
To call upon a neighbor and to say: --
"We invaded you last night--we are quite prepared to fight,
Unless you pay us cash to go away."
And that is called asking for Dane-geld,

And the people who ask it explain
That you've only to pay 'em the Dane-geld
And then you'll get rid of the Dane!

It is always a temptation for a rich and lazy nation,
To puff and look important and to say: --
"Though we know we should defeat you, we have not the time to meet you.
We will therefore pay you cash to go away."

And that is called paying the Dane-geld;

But we've proved it again and again,
That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld
You never get rid of the Dane.

It is wrong to put temptation in the path of any nation,
For fear they should succumb and go astray;
So when you are requested to pay up or be molested,
You will find it better policy to say: --
"We never pay any-one Dane-geld,
No matter how trifling the cost;
For the end of that game is oppression and shame,
And the nation that pays it is lost!"
- Rudyard Kipling "Dane-geld, A.D. 980-1016"

One trick, if one must walk on questionable ice, is to cut a pole, the trunk of a small sapling, say about 2" through at the butt. Find the balance point, and carry it horizontally, tucked under an arm. If you break through, the pole will bridge the hole in the ice, and keep you from going right to the bottom. It will still be a bitch to get out of the water and back onto the ice, but at least you have a chance.

Human Nature?

There is a genetic drive to mate with winners...

If they see ISIS as strong... as the winners... females will mate with them.

Its funny how people talk about Darwin, and then totally disbelieve that those genetic drives have anything to do with Humans.

We have a large Bosnian immigrant population here in St. Louis. The older generations are very traditional, but not at all radicalized Muslims. The middle generations are quite westernized, but perhaps were not quite prepared for their children coming to America, and fully embracing the culture. The girls where makeup and typical American clothing, the boys get tattoos, enjoy loud rock music, sex, motorcycles, etc.

Typical American youth, in other words.

I think this is a simple case of rebellion taking the form of the thing their parents loathe and fear.

We've heard of young men (boys, really) going over there too.

457 In fact.... epiphany....

The Liberal Agenda is all about countermanding the effects of Darwinism... the very Darwinism they believe in....

They want us to believe that genetic differences are non existent, to the point where Everyone is the same.... whether Male, Female, handicapped, or of different genetic backgrounds (Race).

Its all about Supporting the unsuccessful at the expense of the successful... thus allowing them to breed more...

The American culture WAS pretty Darwinian. You could be successful on your own merits, and then pass that success to your descendants...

Now? The government is in charge of who is successful.... and who you will support...

And we are now seeing the outcome of what happens to a society, which rewards the lesser, at the expense of the better...

491 Your (belated) Medved update: 2-3 minutes in the car (the only level of exposure I can tolerate for some time now). In his trademark mildly contemptuous/condescending style, explaining how and why "anger" is such a bad and unjustified condition for Americans these days. Contrast of happiness with personal lives (85%) vs. dissatisfaction with direction of the country (low 30s%).

That there has been even a completely meaningless, corpse-twitching sort of electoral rebellion against the collapse of the country's values and institutions the last few years (mid-terms, state-level elections) seems more and more remarkable as time goes on. The MSM has long since become a jaw-droppingly distorted propaganda operation. And most "conservative" media - which has often preened as "alternative" media - is, very often, a pathetic echo of ruling class idiocy (Medved, Hewitt, HotAir, et al).

It's sort of remarkable the whole country hasn't been reduced, yet, to a vile parody of America like the Beltway, or CA or NY or MA. Reasonable people with any trace of American sensibility or worldly responsibility have been "on their own" for info and analysis for a long time.

No one could destroy America from without... the Soviets tried, and failed.

Our Culture was too dynamic. It was based on the Family, with the next larger tribal affiliation being America itself (we all self identified as American, not French American or some such).

It was also very Darwinian in that it rewarded success, and you descendants were better off if you were successful.

All that has been destroyed by the Progressive movement.

Families are a Joke (Gays couples having kids?, broken homes are the norm).

We have been forced into Tribes.... out of pure self defense.

And we now Reward the unsuccessful for their very lack of success, and make the successful pay for it.

Add in importing vast amounts of people who did not grow up in American Culture????

They even BOAST (recent spokesman from the Whitehouse) how they have changed us from a single culture (that successful American Culture) to a Multicultural Society.

My Grandfather saw us go from Horse and Buggies to the Moon.... from a Backwater, to a Super Power... all in his lifetime...

537 Insert the word "intentional" in that sentence an yer spot on.

I wonder what we would've accomplished if not for the Progressives. I bet we'd have already been on Mars for a decade. The world would have cheap, readily available energy and food. Lots of other quantifiable good things would've happened too. We were on that type of trajectory.

We've done more to raise the standard of living for the entire planet, yet we're treated as though we've done the exact opposite.

623 Errrr, I don't want to be harsh, but that's ridiculous. There's no way in HELL that any fed gov worker is gonna lose their job or their pension, no matter what the economy does. Fedzilla and the bipartisan suckers of cock in Congress will borrow whatever money it takes to fund those jobs and pensions, even if they have to monetize the debt even more than they already have.

Unless they're working in the military or DoD. Those folks are fucked.

Put it to you this way, name a fed agency outside of DoD that has been shut down or significantly downsized in the last 50 years, WITHOUT having the staff folded into another agency.
Posted by: IllTemperedCur at December 30, 2015 12:53 PM (j4wsR)

I heard from some folks who were working for the feds during the Clinton/Gingrich shutdown showdown, and apparently many federal workers were furloughed at that time.

When the Great Federal Machine started up again (much to the joy of federal workers), those who had been furloughed were given back pay for the time they missed.

Joining Dismuke on the broadcast will be guest contributors Eddie The Collector, Matt From College Station as well as Erik, Randy and Leslie who will be bringing lots of fun and interesting 1920s and 1930s recordings from their respective 78 rpm record collections. The year 2016 will also mark the 100th anniversary of the year 1916 - so we will commemorate the occasion by including a few recordings from that year as well. There is no better way to get a brand new year off to a great start than with lots of happy, jazzy and melodic vintage recordings.

689 IllTemperedCur's got it right re Federal pay/pensions etc., and his point is applicable across the board. That is, short of an unlikely 50 sigma black swan event, the "system" will just "make it up" to get through any crises. Monetized debt, looting (GM, Chrysler), back-door financing of money-center banks, etc. to paper over financial realities.

So - no "burning times", as so many here fantasize about. Not that they're wrong in principle, just details - we are IN the burning times now. Financially, in terms of rule of law and the intangibles that undergird it, in terms of global credibility, and our civic culture (ordered liberty under the constitution, with public sensibility informing the institutions). But so many expect a dramatic, concrete, game-changing break. Uh uh.

2008 was a mini-black swan, and look at the response. 100% doubling-down, massive WORSENING of policies, instincts, practices (from bond looting to de facto bank nationalization/cartelization to mau-mauing bank executives to welfare for borrowers). Everything got worse. Every prudent foundational idea was discarded, every stupid or illegal or insane short-term fix was implemented.

Who knows, there might be a dramatic, Hollywood-style "burning times". But very unlikely. At least not any time soon. The prosperous parts of the economy support the rest, our world reserve currency status and collapse of responsible behavior/citizenship among elites provide huge leeway for band-aid/sustaining measures. So more of the slow, then rapid, then slow again, degradation is more likely.

690 I think Cosby is feeling the wrath of telling the truth about the black (ghetto) culture. He probably pulled some shananigans with some women, but I believe most of this is the tv and movie industry threatening anyone who decides to break with the PC code of membership.

What better way to piss off our enemies.

1. Operation Iraqi Schlong.
2. Operation Enduring Schlong.
3. Operation New Schlong.
4. Operation Desert Schlong.
5. Operation Rolling Schlong.

Honestly, I've never been convinced by the Obama-as-mohammedan argument. It's been my observation that for most folks, it's the teen years that really form their adult worldview. By that time in his life, JugEars was more steeped in the "communist academia" culture than mohammedan.

Still, his childhood in the madrassa definitely instilled an unhealthy admiration for the mohammedans. But I see more of the atheist commie in him rather than the crypto-mohammedan.

But I certainly could be wrong about the whole thing.

The 'if Cosby's guilty' part of the sentence implies presumption of innocence. That said, I don't know why there would be a Bill Cosby Protective Society at work on this thread. Cosby's accused of surreptitiously dopingdozens women into insensibility and then raping them.

So yeah: white knight for the guy all you want. Why you would want to do so is beyond me, but hey, free country.Posted by: troyriser at December 30, 2015 01:18 PM (cCEFD)
I'm not "white knighting" for Cosby. If he's guilty (and I have no idea whether he is or not), then throw the book at him. That being said - I'm realistic enough to know if he were a racist dickweed like Samuel L. Jackson or Spike Lee, every one of his accusers would long since have been dismissed as nuts or sluts.Cosby ran away from the plantation and now the owners have set the dogs on him.
