Pregnant Chelsea Clinton has been spotted out on a festive stroll with her husband, daughter and parents Hillary and Bill as they enjoyed some family time together with the family smiling and waving at passers-by during their walk through Manhattan on Sunday.

Chelsea, who grinned as she pushed along one-year-old Charlotte in a buggy, hid any signs of a baby bump with a long, gray coat and orange scarf. Her jacket was outdone by her mother, who sported a vibrant coat she bought in Afghanistan in 2003 which was embroidered with flowers.

ABC7 Eyewitness News

A Caltrans spokesperson said someone had apparently reprogrammed the northbound 15 Freeway sign at Ontario Avenue Christmas night to read: "Inland Empire supports Donald Trump. Merry Xmas. Vote Donald Trump."

As opposed to its usual traffic warning, the sign with the Trump message was clearly visible to thousands of passing motorists for an unknown period of time.

129 If you want your kid to get a scholarship to play football in college then play in the pros have him do one thing.

Be a long snapper.

Guy I grew up with used to practice long snapping all the time from the time we were in middle school. Became a pretty good one when we were in high school, good enough to get a full ride to Va Tech.

About 8 years ago, a kid from Roanoke who was a high school long snapper got a scholarship to UVa. After graduation signed as an NFL free agent, just picked up a Super Bowl ring last year.

If you are a good long snapper, you can get your years in to get full NFLPA retirement benefits.

276 For the record there never was any official blog animus towards Pam or other blogs friendly to her. It's just that we're not particularly focused on Islam so there just weren't that many cross linked stories between the blogs.

But apparently at some point Pam decided that Ace had gone dhimmi or was deliberately cutting her out of blog mentions or something and started telling people the 'nice jugs' story as if Ace had walked up to her out of the blue and made the comment. Which is why he felt compelled to write up the complete story back in 2011.

The laser toy from China I just got has no such interlock -- which is one reason I haven't fired it up yet, before I fit it with one. It also has a crappy controller that demands to be used with WinXP. There are two 24V steppers that run it, I'm looking to drive 'em with an Arduino.

Posted by: cthulhu at December 28, 2015 02:22 AM (EzgxV)

430 Japan and Norway (at a minimum -- there may be other countries too) have functioning online "plasma arc gasification" power plants which use electric arcs to turn garbage -- any garbage, of any kind -- into plasma, with the end result being, after cooling, a usable synthetic gas that can be burnt, and a slag of completely inert gravel that's good for road-building and other stuff because it's basically eternally unerodable.

Such plants take a lot of up-front electricity to run, but overall they're a net gain because the gas "byproduct" contains more energy than the electricity to make the arcs. Plus -- no more garbage!

Basically, it's a way of converting all those juicy carbon and other nice molecules in our daily stuff into something more useful.

(The Ford-class aircraft carriers will all also have plama arc gasification plants on board, but mainly just to get rid of all garbage -- I imagine they'll probably just dump the slag and vent the gas, as neither are much use at sea.)

It's actually a great idea -- a town's garbage can be the feedstock for its power plant, solving two problems (energy, and garbage disposal) at once!

I predict it will eventually catch on here in the US.

So, don't laugh at plasma-izing your doo-doo -- it's a booming business!

Yes.

So, the story is -- I've been seeing laser cutters around since early Maker Faires. Pretty much the standard of the industry for a benchtop unit is Epilog's -- lots of folks have access to those, but they tend to be at schools or research facilities because they cost a whompin' $12K and most people don't spend their own money like that. For people who spend their own money, there's a company called Full Spectrum Laser (out of Las Vegas) that has a really nice package that pretty much does what Epilog's does for $4K.

So, I got to reading up on FSL, and they got their start by buying really cheap units out of China and dolling-them-up with stuff like decent controllers and safety switches, adding decent software and providing a manual in English....which got me thinking, how cheap?

$600. So, to paraphrase Die Hard, "Now I have a 40W CO2 cutting laser. Ho ho ho."

They make laser metal cutters, but we're talking $10s of K range, here. Also cool is water jet metal cutting. It's a pressure washer on steroids, using hell, 80K psi water jets. The pumps on those things are something else.

443 According to Dallas news, 8 were killed in Garland (all in vehicles) and 15 injured (in homes, I'm guessing).

About 600 buildings in Garland were damaged, many of them completely leveled. Those include businesses and multi-family residences, but the majority were single-family homes.

It was an EF-4, packing 180 mph winds.

An interesting note is that my little laser is water cooled. They give you a little water pump with the unit. FSL wants $650 for an "industrial cooling unit" to plug that into. I'm thinking a Home Depot bucket in a dorm fridge shouldn't be more than $100.

Posted by: cthulhu at December 28, 2015 03:12 AM (EzgxV)

Already has the pump (they're both made in China, maybe at the same plant). Doesn't have to be a 5-gallon bucket.

But, yes, you see the lunacy in $650 "industrial coolers".

Alas, the local distributor sold out to Inbev, and they now price Moosehead like it was some fancy-pancy microbrew bottled only by consecrated virgins. I only started drinking it when Molson got pricey; and I was only drinking Molson because I couldn't afford St. Pauli Girl.

450 Heck, I imagine tap water ought to do it easily enough. Years ago, we borrowed a dynamometer from a dealer to adjust the fuel setting on the injector pump on a diesel tractor. It was PTO driven and water cooled. And boy could it put a load on the engine. Black smoke rolling.

It was $$$$, not a home shop item by a long shot, but it gave you torque and HP readings right on the dial. You just hooked up a water hose to it, and before it was over, pure steam was coming out.

We didn't really have enough ummph on the water supply, but the unit didn't get in the red temperature wise at that. All the output of the tractor engine was just being converted to heat in that unit.

Probably not a good idea here -- water hardness is off the chart, tap water is "liquid concrete" and forms deposits all over everything. Manual for similar lasers from FSL and Epilog stresses use of distilled water. But with an arduino controller, it's really easy to throw another sensor on and get a thermal reading.

Good Morning Morons. Today is Monday, December 28, 2015. On this day in 1973 the Endangered Species Act was signed by Richard Nixon and went into effect. It was actually called for by Nixon who, contrary to what the MFM says, was probably the most liberal Republican President in history. And this act has been in the top 5 of the most abused laws passed by congress. And BTW, the Democrats controlled congress when this act was passed but they did not have 60 votes in the Senate.

Several instances are now found where "schlonged" is used "respectfully", as in losing badly with no sexual overtones. But FOX bleeped it and continues to smear Trump by claiming it was a gross sexual usage.

Why is Trump so rude? Keeping illegals out has indeed been deemed rude by the PC cult, as is keeping unvetted Muslims out. Hillary wants the election to be about love, after her decades of crime and lies and sleaze. Trump's boldness is beautiful ... maybe the last chance to break the DC cartels.

524 Peter King is one of biggest RINOs in the Republican Party.

He's also 71 years old. Enough.

525 Especially in the 90's, and early 2000's. Lots of white boys wore the sagging pants and drove around listening to rap...real loud...now at the mall, the black boys still like to display their ass, not so much the white, probably varies by region..

Now there was a stupid fashion - but useful as far as law enforcement went. I recall reading of several cases where an idiot in clown pants committed a crime, tried to run from police - and his pants fell down and he tripped, thus making capture easy.

You're right - I still see blacks wearing the super baggy pants but not whites - the hipsters are going about in their skinny jeans.

526 So was there a coordinated attempt to be thuggish at malls? Because something happened at a local one the other day as well...
