What do you give a billionaire who has everything and is running for president?
The Omnibus spending bill in Congress is over 2,000 pages and spends another $1.1 trillion we dont have. A handful of members of Congress and their staffs, the White House and insider lobbyists wrote it over the past six weeks, and outside this small circle, no one had seen it until Wednesday. In other words, business-as-usual in Washington again. Merry Christmas, Donald Trump. Americans are sick and tired of the way Washington operates. Outsiders like Trump, Cruz, Carson and Paul are polling at two-thirds of the Republican presidential primary voters. Regardless of how reliable you believe the polling is, there is no doubt: Republicans voters are looking to change the Washington status quo. In 2014, Americans entrusted Republicans with Senate and House majorities to stop the Obama agenda, but Republicans refused to get in the drivers seat of Congress. Instead, they offer this back-room, bloated bill to hike spending by another $50 Billion. It is strongly supported by Obama, Pelosi, and Reid and strongly opposed by nearly every major segment of the Republican Party. Well the RINO and SHILLs are for it...But yup if anyone wants to know why Trump is doing so well, I give you the POS BUDGET Posted by: Nevergiveup at December 18, 2015 07:26 AM (gf8BH) 76

You probably think he's a clown-a buffoon, but it's an exercise in imagination. They used to say if you had to give a speech and were nervous to imagine people in their underwear. It works for Obama to really think of him looking ridiculous-in a big clown nose and stupid wig or in a grass skirt an his dancing around wearing a lei while he delivers the SOTU in song. And if he knew about it it would enrage him because narcissists hate being mocked.

And the other thing about Obama is-if he knew that he was being mocked he would have no answer for it other than to do pissy EO or something. People can deal with mocking two ways-by making fun of themselves preemptively or just knowing that it doesn't matter. Obama has No sense of humor about himself and it matters so terribly that people take him seriously.

"The body can be confined, but nothing can destroy the deepest freedom in man, the freedom of the soul, and the freedom of mind and will. This is from a no date calendar I got years ago and still have (It has month and date, not year) the author's name is John Ortberg who is (or was) a teaching fellow at Willow Creek church and has written a number of books. This was the quote yesterday:
Jesus is not finished yet. He is still looking for people who dare to trust him. He is still looking for people who will not allow fear to have the final word. He is still looking for people who refuse to be deterred by failure. He is still passing by. And this life is your only opportunity to answer his call. No; I know the comment about Jesus has no meaning for conservatives here who are not Christian or not people of religious faith. It was the quote for my birthday yesterday (I suddenly found that calendar after it being lost for a while which seemed providential) and because I get afraid sometimes and need to hear it. Maybe someone else here does too. "Be not afraid" is mentioned many times in the Bible-both in the Hebrew and Christian scriptures and the psalms are often words of encouragement-to not fear and to press on. Typed a longish post, but the hamster wheel deleted it. *scowls*
I'm in Orlando for a few days. It's a place where I lived for many years. It's where my son was born. Where I met Mr. Black, who's lived in Winter Park (in Orlando, but a bit nicer) his whole life. This trip, I've been amazed at the number of muslim women walking around in head scarves. They're at every turn. It's been really shocking. I've even seen a completely garbage-bagged woman, head to toe in her black tarp, only eye slits allowed, holding hands and walking with her man...who was dressed in shorts and flip flops. I hardly feel like I'm in America. It looks like another country here, and I can only imagine what a quadrupling of H2 visas, coupled with the import of 10s of 1000s of Middle Eastern "refugees" will turn this place into. Which led me to think about how we're bringing in so many people with different beliefs and different cultures. And all it takes is 1 of them to call a school board and complain about being offended. And just like that, BAM!, American tradition is thrown out the window and who we are is gone...Just. Like. That. Obviously, I'm referencing the assault on Christmas in public education, but it could and will start to include everything. After Ryan's, and the GOP's, mind-boggling sellout yesterday, I was enraged. Depressed. Hopeless. I just don't see a way out. I've held onto hope for a long time, despite the America implosion I've witnessed all these unholy years with TFG in office. Every institution is polluted with leftists. My light is getting dim. Sorry for the downer... /rant Posted by: Lady in Black...sigh at December 18, 2015 09:00 AM (WhZVP) 256
FenelonSpoke, saw late that you had asked about my dad, who shares your bdy yesterday. I mentioned he would've been 98, but has been gone for 48 years.
There were things not to be proud of, which resulted in mom divorcing him. I didn't understand that much when I was 12. That damage to our family lives on, generations later. But he was, seems to me, not a bad man, just a foolish one. His proudest role was as GOP chairman from Oklahoma. Back then, the state was hard Democrat (like most Southern states then). The GOP, like the GOPe today, was not so much interested in winning as in the power and profit from being the loser party. Dad worked on a door-to-door county-wide get-out-the-vote campaign ("we'd like you to vote Republican, but mainly we want you to vote" was the slogan) that turned brought him to the attention of the state GOP. Despite them (as he once told me), he managed to turn the state around, and get our first Republican governor elected. The state GOP has been strong ever since, despite its infections of RINO-itis. (His work merited a whole chapter in Gov Bellmon's biography.) My brother once wrote Nixon, asking if he recalled our Dad. Nixon sent back a signed copy of his latest book, with the note that he was sorry our Dad hadn't lived to see "our victory in 1968." (My cynical thought was, yeah, but if he had lived, Nixon's resignation probably would've killed him!) I never got to know my dad as an adult. He was stern, too quick to anger (although I only got The Belt once), but generous and loving in my memory. I miss him. Gov Bellmon went on to the Senate, where he was deeply disappointed, coming from a state that worked to a body that didn't. The GOP, and DC in general, may be truly hopeless today, but knowing Dad's work is the reason I haven't given up yet. That, and my super belief in the triumph of "truth, justice, and the American way." With that, I'm going to head offline for a while. Any plan to bring the budget into balance and reduce the national debt will put the bulk of the burden on our children and grandchildren, after past generations receiving oversized benefits.
The only way to equitably fixing the national debt and eliminating the budget deficit has to include selling off much of what the federal government has no business owning in the first place. My wishlist would be term limits, balanced budged, and 17th repeal. All of those seem to be in the state's interests.
To which I would add: Congress will not exempt itself from any legislation it passes. Bills will only be about one issue and written in plain English. No more legalistic gobbledygook with which to confuse the public. All federal agencies will use zero-based budgeting. Make them prove a need for anything they want to spend money on instead of carrying over last year's budget. And speaking of the budget, it will be balanced. No if's, and's or but's. If they want to spend money, they need to make sure that the economy is booming to pay for their largess. Animals will no longer be elevated above the needs of humans. This means that the water to places like the Central Valley in California will be turned back on, to hell with some damned baitfish. Human life will be held as sacred. No more Planned Butcherhood funding. And that's just the start. Of course, if there was such a thing as a responsible, honest politician, we wouldn't need to do any of this. #WASTF Posted by: BackwardsBoy at December 18, 2015 09:10 AM (LUgeY) 277

I don't know. I'm rather fond of our Constitutional system. It does rely on all of the branches abiding by it, which doesn't seem to be happening any more. So Congress does not insist on its prerogatives and allows a feckless President to feck everything he touches. I don't have a solution for that. So... I mentioned this yesterday. If this new spending bill increases 6%, and officially we have negative inflation, what did we accomplish in giving both houses to the GOPe?
We are at war with everybody. Unfortunately, math will ultimately win, and there's no way we can inflate our way out of this. Posted by: Chupacabra at December 18, 2015 09:00 AM (kZVsz) Massive debt with inflation then "to get us out of it" by repaying our creditors with less valuable inflated currency has been the plan of Obama and his "economists" since before he was elected. They were talking about it openly on places like NPR and other media before and after his election until I guess it polled poorly. His people were openly talking about Obama as the "Anti-Reagan". I was surprised at the time that no one, no one was making any commotion about this- as there are plenty of people who remember the awful inflation of the 70's. And a big part of Reagan's recovery and boom was throttling down inflation in the first 2 yrs or his term. But, given the events, since the last election and Congressional control by the Republicans and yesterdays pure stab in the back- I guess we're all anti-Reagans now. BONUS!!! for statist/socialist turds: Massive inflation is a automatic revenue enhancer for the state as inflated salaries push you into "higher income" bracket. More inflation = more taxes = more better. Posted by: naturalfake at December 18, 2015 09:38 AM (KUa85) 315

The Milan-Linate ground collision was such a total cluster-fetch. - The official airport maps didn't match the ground markings on the runways. - The Italian police moved the aircraft wreckage before air crash investigators arrived. - The Runway Incursion alarms had been turned off years ago. Posted by: naturalfake at December 18, 2015 09:43 AM ~~~ It's really disheartening to see that so many here have never even visited the Convention of States website to learn about it, yet are quick to trash the idea. Do any of you have any better ideas? And no, armed revolution is not an option. I'm not trying to avoid debate here, but I've got to sign off and get to work. I urge all of you to: 1.) Read Mark Levin's "Liberty and Tyranny," and 2.) Go to Conventionofstates.com and learn about the movement. In my view, it is our only hope. Posted by: Bigby's Shaking Hands at December 18, 2015 09:52 AM (3ZtZW) Step 1: Bloody Conflict Step 2: Convention Our young friend here seems to want to skip Step 1. Which is understandable. Posted by: BurtTC at December 18, 2015 09:54 AM (Dj0WE) 351

Massive debt with inflation then "to get us out of it" by repaying our creditors with less valuable inflated currency has been the plan of Obama and his "economists" since before he was elected.

Step 2: Convention
=== Yes. A Convention to *revise* the Articles of Confederation, where the representatives were limited in authority and instructed to be narrow in topics addressed. First thing they did was vote those restrictions down. Posted by: Bigby's Shaking Hands at December 18, 2015 09:57 AM (3ZtZW) 357

Posted by: Bigby's Shaking Hands at December 18, 2015 09:57 AM (3ZtZW) I'm reminded of that cute little answer W gave some years ago, and I'm not even sure of the context. He said something "what we really need now is a dictator... as long as I'm the dictator." He said it with a chuckle, but I think it got a bunch of people's panties in a wad. Whatever. Yeah. A convention made up of... who now? Ima gonna go out on a limb and assume the people with this brilliant idea of having a convention are pretty sure already what the end result of that convention should be. Which makes them... eh, dictators? I think that's what you call people who want to dictate to others. Posted by: BurtTC at December 18, 2015 10:01 AM (Dj0WE) 360
>>>An Art V convention is a really bad idea.
Posted by: eman at December 18, 2015 09:04 AM ~~~ Not so! Check out their website; all the fears of a "runaway" convention are completely debunked. Here's their page where they respond to opposition: {Fix the (dot) in the link} Do they have an answer to how they plan to make everyone abide by the outcome? If so, why not just make everyone abide by the fucking Constitution that we have now? . . . .Exactly. I have asked that very same question many times before and have not received one single concrete response to it. The bottom line is they aren't abiding by what we have now and they will not magically change after a convention. Posted by: The Great White Scotsman at December 18, 2015 10:02 AM (iONHu) 361

If the Art V is our only hope, then we are well and truly fucked. Posted by: eman at December 18, 2015 10:00 AM (MQEz6) Not our only hope. Just one of the last things we can do before the options start to get really ugly, and it doesn't preclude any ugliness afterwards if it doesn't work. So there's really not much to lose if tried, except time. Posted by: Cato the Rebel Without a Party at December 18, 2015 10:04 AM (HalrA) 363
We are here for some amount of time. What we do after that can't be proven and is best resolved as a matter of faith. What we say, do, and think is what we are. The choices we make are what we are. If we take anything from this life to another life then that is what we take. Personally I don't want to go to human-jackass heaven.

If so, why not just make everyone abide by the fucking Constitution that we have now? Posted by: rickb223 at December 18, 2015 09:30 AM ~~~~ Maybe you should read the articles at the link I posted before condemning the idea whole cloth. The amendments proposed would return power to the people and the states, which was the original intent. It is the Leviathan that has shredded the constitution, not "the people." Posted by: IrishEi at December 18, 2015 09:46 AM (E6RIJ) --------------------- OK, after reading their answer is that the founders used vague phraseology that has been exploited by modern day politicians. Their contention is that and Article V conventions will phrase amendments so tightly that they cannot be misinterpreted. Posted by: Make America Great Again at December 18, 2015 10:18 AM (LXJ1e) 366

Posted by: Max Rockatansky at December 18, 2015 10:02 AM (+hd5N) ------------------------ 1) At this point, yes. I'm also of the belief that the gun owners will sell every other right down the river in order to maintain their right to own guns. This is shown by the NRA's support of Reid, and especially their OK a few years ago of limitation on political speech as long as they were exempted. 2) Afganistan is half way around the world. And the American prosecution of that war has been half hearted at best. 3) Its clear that the Federal Government views its own citizens as the real enemy and worthy of contempt. 3) Posted by: Make America Great Again at December 18, 2015 10:25 AM (LXJ1e) 367
342 With enough people, any defense around those buildings would immediately collapse.
=== Hah! Seriously. Wash DC is a major city, yet all the buildings are capped as far as height goes. Any idea where they all are? Posted by: Bigby's Shaking Hands at December 18, 2015 09:50 AM (3ZtZW) ------------------------------ The capital police protect the government buildings and the SS the White House, both are woefully inadequate to stop millions of peaceful protestors. I'm not saying the government will not try to stop the protest, even to the use of violence, I'm saying that weapons in the hands of protesters will do no good, turn much of the populace against them and embolden the government to escalate the use of force.
