Just A Thought...[CBD]

If the Colorado Springs shooter (who sounds like a lunatic) entered the Planned Parenthood clinic/abattoir and began shooting out of a window at people outside PP, wasn't his intent to kill everyone but PP staff and customers?

So this guy could just as easily be described as a PP supporter and protector.....

And Open Thread.

A Thanksgiving story:

Yesterday I went to a brunch thrown by two friends (a married couple) who I used to be partners with in a business venture. Around 2001, we had a very bitter falling out but thanks to a buddy of mine, we reconciled a few months ago. One of them has been battling cancer and evidently it has spread to a lymph node near his spine. Despite being in obvious pain, you could see that he made every effort to hang on your every word and to be in the moment with every fibre of his being.

I'm not going to pretend it's not a dire situation, but where there is life there is hope. And I'm very thankful that we did reconcile in the here and now.

For what it's worth.

32 Really sounds like a bank robbery gone wrong. PP was a random building he sought shelter in to fire at police. Not politically motivated and the mayor is wrong to ASSUME motive when the investigation has barely even begun! Also, again, we need better mental health laws -- we used to until the Dems changed them in the '70s and made it much more difficult to commit the sick. Ever since we've had more homelessness and violence. But of course, it's the guns...

145 Binge-watching Otherworld on Youtube. I just discovered it.

It was the lowest rated show of 1985, pulled after only 8 episodes. It was about a family that gets sucked into a fascist parallel universe while visiting the pyramids. All the people there live in zones that they can't leave (proto-Hunger Games). The idea was that the family had to sneak their way through 77 zones to get home, but the show got yanked before it really got going. A big-budget remake on a cable network would be seriously awesome.

Part sci-fi, part action-adventure, part teen drama (along the lines of My Girlfriend Just Told Me She's An Android, But I Still Love Her!) and part satire, like a proto-Idiocracy but with a more melodramatic comedic tone. As an example, all the food in the grocery stores consists of generic cans with labels like "GOOD FOOD" and "MEAT."

"What kind of meat?" asks the bewildered Mom. "It's, uh...meat?" replies the stock clerk, sounding for all the world like Frito.

And to top it off, a young Jonathan Banks played the bad guy, which is just pure win.

179 I would go with the Webley. No real reason, other than it is easier to reload and clean. In the states it can be hard to get the right diameter bullet, but if you can find .454 hollow based wad-cutters the skirt will expand to take the rifling very nicely. You also get your choice of powders to load with, the MK1 is partial to BP.
Of course it does make you want to go out and get the matching Lee-Metford or Martin-Henry.
Check to make sure the cylinder has not been shaved off to fit .45 Auto-rim ammo, by the way, that reduces the value of it, though auto-rim can be easier to find than .455 brass. Also the cylinder should lock up when the the trigger is pulled, make sure it indexes right and doesn't wobble.

Really, though both the .455 and the 7.62 rounds are easy and fun to reload, and if you have access to .223 brass and the correct neck reamer you can churn out brass all day long and half the night - and it is as easy to load as a rifle cartridge.

A few conservative sites will debunk it, but none of our readership will ever become aware of it.

Apparently, in the hands of a skilled user, the Webley is capable of a pretty good sustained rate of fire, because the tilt-open design permits loaded six rounds at once from a clip made for the purpose. I don't know if the C96, with its integral box magazine, is amenable to that sort of thing. And Winston Churchill carried a C96, and spoke highly of them.

NEVER tell an adopted child that they are anything but adopted.

God still chose his or her parents, both birth and adopted, but in a different way, and ALWAYS make sure he or she understands that he or she was chosen in particular and specially to be part of the family. And irrevocably so.

Otherwise you do the child great harm with the truth comes out, and it will come out.

296 Well, obviously, after reading about Mr Dear then everyone who lives alone should be interviewed by county mental health just to be sure they are not a threat to their neighbors or themselves.

Obviously if the county had paid more attention to Mr. Dear and people like him, this terrible tragedy in Colorado Springs would never have happened.

It would be for their own welfare. Except all the mental health facilities were shut down in the seventies because it is better for the patients to live in the community and not be warehoused in a government institution.

297 NEVER tell an adopted child that they are anything but adopted.

-
They make custom books using your child's name and circumstances to explain their adoption so you can begin to tell them even before they can talk.

We had no choice since our eldest daughter was three when we adopted her and we always told our younger daughter, the biological sister of our eldest. Both were involuntary termination of parental rights kids. Our eldest is kind of screwed up but independent and basically functioning normally. Youngest doesn't seem to be any more peculiar than the average 20 year old.

It's only in the last generation or so that everybody has to expose every little thing about their past. I think it's safe to assume plenty of adopted kids lived productive lives without knowing who their DNA parents were.

I just don't believe in exposing every little story from one's past, even on big things like adoption, molestation, crime, etc. I find it unsavory for lack of a better word.

Took me over a year to find a job. Fortunately the company I was working for (while being sold) stayed in business long enough until I found a new one. But so many companies aren't hiring for a number of reasons including Barry Care. We aren't at record low job participation rates because everything is peachy. It's going to eventually effect the economy to the point were they can't cover it up any more.

Posted by: TheQuietMan at November 28, 2015 08:36 PM (45oDG)

370 My parents didn't tell me I was adopted until I was 18. It came as a complete surprise. I never expected it. And it didn't really affect me all that much. I don't believe they ever lied to me about it, because it never really came up.

I had a "sister" who was also adopted. In her case, she learned in high school that her blood type meant that it was impossible for our adoptive parents to be her birth parents. Apparently they deflected her questions and she got pissed off about it.

Thinking back on it, I can't fault our parents for waiting so long to tell us. Since she and I were completely unrelated, if we had learned earlier our teenage years could have gotten, um, complicated.

I never tried to find my birth parents. Of course I've always been curious, but I figured it was water under the bridge.

As for the girl who was left to die, I would tell her when she was mature enough to handle the truth, if I thought she was psychologically strong enough. That's a pretty remarkable and miraculous story. Maybe after telling her about the ancient Roman custom of getting rid of unwanted children by "exposure".

Yeah, that's the thing. I was kind of afraid of what I might find.

I was born in the 50s, so I think my birth mother was probably either a teenage girl who "got in trouble", a prostitute, or a rape victim.

I certainly have never wished her any ill. As for my father, see above. That would depend. At any rate, I ended up with good adoptive parents.

But my mechanic gave me a can of PB before it was widely advertised, when I had a "sprung trunion" on the deuce. It's non-flammable. You can apply heat, even pretty severe heat, on the heat'n'beat side of the equation, in cases where the usual light-distillate based lubes would just flame off. So, for the hard cases, it is really good.

I would not apply heat to that Kroil lid, just as a for instance.

A billion other voices are spreading other news
All this time we're living and trying to understand
Why a billion other choices are making their demands

Talk of a Peaceable Kingdom
Talk of a time without fear
The ones we wish would listen
Are never going to hear

465 here is a video, apparently it is an Egyptian
talking head program talking about Obama talking about the dangers of
climate change.

My favorite line? "Is he on drugs?"

470 @463 You'd have loved the Isoamyl acetate we used before we had PB.
There's chemists here so I'll let them explain.

472 But what is Kroil?

Older brand. Lots of suspended carbon if I remember right. May still be in business. Not near as good as PB.

478 I would not apply heat to that Kroil lid, just as a for instance.

No, never, it's quite vapor-y. I just used a light squeeze on my vise-grips, by the way, to get it undone. Cracked loose as if they used loctite on it.

I don't remember anymore if this is the proper meaning of the word, but "Ironic!" sure popped into my head.

A comment a few lines down indicates that it's a hoax, a prank, by the guy that posted it.

Still funny. I laughed out loud.

483 No, I thought a parody was supposed to be funny or thought provoking.

What you are saying is that it is Agitprop, right?

A callous attempt to affect the thinking of people to support or reject some political position or another through lies, distortion and misrepresentation, sometimes by fabrication of events and frankly lying about staged events?

Cool. Prove it, I would like to know who is trying to lie me into supporting them, who is staging events and trying to distract me from what is important and immediate to the survival of my country and my friends.

Be a friend, be a buddy, show me proof.

485 Be a friend, be a buddy, show me proof.

It has been at least a year, probably several, since I first saw it and I don't remember details. I think it may have been put out by that Israeli satirical group that did the goofy "newcasts," Three Terrors Song, and the skit wherein the FBI searched in vain for a motive for the Boston Marathon bombings (Lachmi, Lakmi, something like that?), but I don't remember for sure.
