We often see examples about how the Regressives (my preferred term) are bigoted and hypocritical, while utterly unaware of their being so. I rarely encounter such in daily life, mostly because I don't usually encounter Regressives and if I do, I don't engage with them on anything of significance.
Yesterday, on the way to Mom's, I was listening to radio news about the then-unfolding shooting in Colorado Springs. At Mom's, I ask my Colorado relatives if they were aware of the news from their home state, which they weren't. Warning of the fog of war, I said it appeared there was a shooter "at or near" a Planned Parenthood clinic. BiL swiftly and blandly intones, "some right-to-lifer, then." I replied, well, no reports of any "allahu akbar." Which brought his swift and sharp rebuke, "Not that it matters to the ones being shot!" It seemed to me that it was not said with the inclusiveness that it doesn't matter either way, but rather as if my reference to jihadism had stuck a thorn under thin skin. I may have misinterpreted. * 72 hours rule (at least) sure applies. It went from "at or near a PP clinic" to "nothing to do with the PP clinic directly" when I last talked about it with them, to "seemed to be an attack on the PP clinic" after all, last I read late last night. On the whole I wish I'd never mentioned the matter. Posted by: mindful webworker - indubitably at November 28, 2015 06:34 AM (PCof0) 22

Why would a guy from North Carolina go all the way to Colorado to shoot up a random PP.
Does not compute. But it certainly hasn't stopped the ghouls of murder inc from using this for all its worth. The NAACP is still fund raising off of the "bombing" that wasn't, so I'm sure the ghouls will be fund raising for years off of this one. Posted by: Kreplach at November 28, 2015 06:44 AM (CsY+v) 25
chavez the hugo: Should have throat punched the prick. Sounds like a smug asshole to me.
Um, heh, that's a little extreme. And not exactly in keeping with Mom's dictates about keeping the peace under her roof. His remark is true on its face, of course. I've always said, to the families of the killed, to those wounded, to those who have to pick up the pieces in the aftermath, it doesn't matter in consequence whether the cause was a shrapnel-laden mass murderer's bomb vest, a lone off-his-meds nutcase, a broken gas main, or a tornado. It does matter in the immediate response, of course, whether this was the initial part of some mass organized jihadi attack like in Paris or just a solo nutjob. And, of course, it matters in a larger sense that Christians are not organizedly preaching attacks on PP clinics while OTOH Imams do regularly encourage jihad. I just agreed with the remark on its face and went in search of pie. Posted by: mindful webworker - indisputably at November 28, 2015 06:47 AM (PCof0) 26

At this point it actually does seem like a "right to lifer". Or maybe someone less absolute on that, but angered with the callous killing of later term babies, where procedures prioritize saving the "fetal tissue" for sale, not making sure there is no pain. And angered that our leftist government funds and protects PP despite their political connections and abortion mission.
But why this guy went to this clinic and seemingly didn't accomplish his more grandiose mission, is still hard to say. If he was really committed to killing PP staff, he could certainly have killed several, unless he actually got trapped in a hallway designed to trap an active shooter. Steel doors, reinforced walls ... maybe PP has prepared for this scenario? But he did shoot several, killing three. Maybe he found the killing distasteful, face to face. But the image I saw looked like an average white guy in his 40's with a gray beard, not much like a convert to Islam. And radical Muslims don't care about the killing of infidel babies I'd guess. Swiss used to like English women, and in tough times any similarity will do? Or, where did you think centaurs came from, if not Switzerland? People who have the time to caterwaul about Mary being raped just so that can shove that in the faces of Christians are sad, foolish creatures in need of prayer.
"As far as being disappointed in others, we must not expect too much from them. It is the only way to avoid disappointment. We must take the fruit that a tree bears-but remember that some tress only put out leaves and caterpillars! God has an infinite amount of patience with us as he does with all people. He is not even put off by their resistance to him. We should try to imitate his patience and mercy." My landlord replaced four 100-year-old leaded glass window sashes with modern energy efficient double-pane windows.
The replacement windows will pay for themselves in two years' energy savings, so he walks away happy. I just made next month's rent selling the discards on craigslist. I'm happy. The buyer is discarding the rotted wood sashes and mounting the decorative glass and the panes from the storm windows into one giant fixed frame. She has plans to re-stain the washed out panels with more vivid modern colors. She's wetting her pants with happiness. Kinda sad that trashpicking paid me more this week than a career built on 20 years of schooling. Posted by: Spellcheck at November 28, 2015 08:46 AM (j+aWk) 151

Cruelly to animals is the start of a life downfall, sad thing is it often happens in childhood.
This canard has people labeling normal children as future serial killers. It is very common for children to lack empathy before the age of 8 or so. I myself, remember squishing toads with my bicycle for fun at approximately 5. Until we wounded one and saw it suffering, we thought of it as good fun. There was quite a building materials shortage just after WW2, and then there was Korea. Every mid-size city had places where you'd get dimension lumber, windows and doors, even plumbing fixtures that were salvaged. The oldest part of my house has some 2 by 4's that are 2.by.4. And, oak. You have to drill to drive a nail.
Salvage is "just too dangerous" for today's labor market. Other than an-teekers, people are ashamed to use something that's been nailed once before. And the skills of removing things without destroying them is practically a lost art. That really frosts my frost-balls. I know just one guy who has a crew that tries to save good stuff. And he's a "junky." When they took down Second Baptist last summer, I called about all that Ohio Blue limestone, and was thrilled to find that he'd palleted all those building stones, and had a buyer for most of them. There went my free Celt-Wall, but, to a very good home. Posted by: Stringer Davis at November 28, 2015 08:59 AM (xq1UY) 163

Sadly, what they don't teach in school, anywhere, that the value of things are what people are willing to give for them. The corollary of this is that you can get ahead by realizing this and picking up unrecognized gems and getting them to the people who would delight in having them, making everyone happy in the process.
What schools do teach is that this is theft, and exploitation, and correcting these misjustices is more important than anyone's happiness. Posted by: Kindltot at November 28, 2015 09:00 AM (q2o38) 165

From this date in 1943 in my dad's WWII diary Nov 28, 1943 Sunday. Churchbells at Piccilli, only about 3500 [yds] back from front lines, were ringing for services. In fact, they ring every day from morning and evening. 18th FA Brigade fired it first mission at 1802 today. 2d Bn 77 did the firing. --The EZ Dog Diaries (During this phase of the Italian campaign the Allies had advanced some 25-30 miles north of Naples and were trying to dislodge the Wehrmacht from the Gustav Line- best known for Monte Cassino. The mountainous terrain and weather were formidable additions to the German fortifications and the campaign had bogged down since the initial landings at Salerno in early September.) Obama already out with the solution ... more gun control. But they still won't want to identify crazies, which is too mean ... they want broad gun control to treat us all as "equals". Only European style confiscation will satisfy them.
Plus they love guns as a political issue for every shooting, like they do with "comprehensive immigration reform". Stop and frisk was too selective for criminals ... better to take everyone's guns than have a real solution. Posted by: Illiniwek at November 28, 2015 09:26 AM (Nc0+l) 193

So, I have to ask this. While watching Fox News during the afternoon yesterday, before the guy was captured, the square-headed older guy at Fox (whose name escapes me) was talking to some SWAT instructor and breathlessly asked the guy about the rumor that the shooter had brought some "items" and maybe a propane tank to the clinic with him, and could he have been planning to shoot the propane tank to make it explode. Did anybody else catch that little bit of journalistic excellence? Any confirmation of the "items" the guy supposedly brought?

-- The stories are all about the victims, almost nothing about the shooter, because the shooter doesn't fit the narrative, and the grief over the loss of life serves Obama's purpose. Meanwhile, Chicago. Obama has already announced that 'enough is enough' yet we know nothing about the shooter, or how he managed to gain possession of the weapon used, nor why he did what he did, but none of that matters because Obama knows all, sees all, and is never wrong. Sheriff Brady shot the SCUBA air tank, not an oxygen bottle. In theory, compressed air does have enough kinetic force to blow apart a shark, if the container is violently ruptured. No fire or combustion, but 'explosive' air pressure could do that. Occasionally a SCUBA shop is ripped apart because or some compressed air incident.

thin mint, gaseous explosions, damn you people.
What was the movie (Schwarzenegger I think) where the arch villain is a notorious gas bag whose noxious emissions are life threatening, and the hero has to throw said villain into the La Brea tar pits to smother the eruption? Last action hero maybe? It's all I can remember about that movie. Posted by: Woolford Spaulings at November 28, 2015 10:25 AM (p5f0j) 286

Posted by: Seamus Muldoon at November 28, 2015 10:20 AM (NeFrd) I recall hearing something about that. Surprising it didn't get the 24/7 media treatment. You'd think that would be right in their wheelhouse. So there was probably something about it that was inconvenient for the narrative. Posted by: rickl at November 28, 2015 10:26 AM (sdi6R) 287

North Korea appeared to conduct a submarine-launched ballistic missile test on Saturday but it ended in failure with no indication that the missile successfully ejected from the vessel and took off, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported.
The test, if confirmed, follows a test-launch in May of a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM), which Pyongyang boasted as a success but has not been independently verified. "There is no identification of a missile taking flight and only fragments of a safety cover was observed so it's highly likely that the launch was a misfire," a South Korean government source was quoted as saying by Yonhap. South Korea's Defence Ministry declined to confirm the report citing its policy of not commenting on intelligence matters. Posted by: Nevergiveup at November 28, 2015 10:30 AM (DUoqb) 292

Posted by: Seamus Muldoon at November 28, 2015 10:20 AM (NeFrd) ============= Not really. There is a video from days before the incident were a couple of white guys are talking shite. At the actual shooting, 3 white guys and 1 latino guy show up and start taping the protesters, the protesters swarm them, attack them, and the guys run. The blm chases them until a couple of guys pull out weapons and shoot. I got this from various videos the BLM people made. So, sure sounds like self defense to me. If only the shootings in Chicago, Baltimore, or anywhere else could be reported in such detail as this Washington Post story about the Planned Parenthood shooting in Colorado Springs.
http://preview.tinyurl.com/jyjwlva If only the stories of oppression of the poor ghetto people of the inner city could be reported accurately. If only the plight of the suffering of inner city residents could be reported so clearly, if only we could understand the violent outbursts triggered by the plight of poor people, then maybe we could begin to understand the root causes of this violence and find an intervention that would work to reduce this terror we all have to live with on a daily basis. If only we understood the disparate impact this violent extremism has on those who bear the terrible burden, then maybe something could be done to end it. Set aside your white privilege, set aside your lust for material wealth, and your insane desire for a vegetable steamer and open your eyes to the terrible plight of the unemployed who have lost hope, who have lost the American Dream. If only. . Posted by: Woolford Spaulings at November 28, 2015 10:43 AM (p5f0j) 311

but when you feel low, what are the things you do to bring yourself out ?
Posted by: willow at November 28, 2015 10:37 AM (jOumW) Willow, if you're feeling a bit depressed, there are a number of things that can help, such as tryptophan, SAM-e, and 5-HTP. Don't take them all at the same time. Pick one, see how it works, and if doesn't, try another. B vitamins can help tremendously with depression and anxiety, as can supplements like magnesium, GABA, taurine, and glycine. If I'm feeling down for no reason, I'll dissolve a 50-mg tablet of vitamin B-6 under my tongue. My mood lifts within 15 minutes. Don't be afraid to talk to your doctor about medications. If you have clinical depression or long-term social anxieties, some of the SSRIs can work wonders. They're not for everyone, and they have side effects, but I know people whose lives were completely changed by them.
