Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Obama's Disastrous Press ConferenceThe full grim spectacle is here; RedState's Streiff (who asks, "How disastrous was Obama's press conference?") offers his thoughts and a two minute clip which shows Obama's usual petulance when he is proven wrong, yet again. Twitchy documents the live reaction to the presser, in which the press, for once, did not have Obama's act. In fact, they seemed to have his ass, asking the same question over and over, which annoyed him greatly, because he wouldn't actually answer it in any sensible way. A man who keeps offering the same empty answers -- "allies have to step up," "a warped ideology on the wrong side of history," "contrary to our values," etc. -- cannot complain this petulantly about being asked the same questions. The other thing people noticed is that Obama gave his typical bloodless "I'd rather be golfing" sort of listless drone about the dead of Paris and his alleged enemies in ISIS, but then, as usual, became interested and emotionally engaged when he was asked about his real enemies, Republicans and Americans.
Behold, the beautiful and delicate rhetorical stylings of our cultural and political elite. They’re the improvisational jazz musicians of American diplomacy, always ready with just the right word to solidify alliances, avoid unnecessary confrontation, and reassure Americans they know exactly what they’re doing in the face of bloody violence. This is what happens when the academic Left runs American foreign policy. For those who’ve lived under a rock for the past four-plus decades, the American academy has been characterized by two prime impulses: one substantive, the other stylistic. First, there's the substantive claim that the problems of the world can largely -- if not entirely -- be traced back to America’s sins and the sins of our Western allies, most notably Israel. These sins have caused the peoples of the world to accumulate a long list of "legitimate grievances," and the problem of anti-American or anti-Israeli violence is therefore best dealt with by dealing with the underlying grievance. Thus the fury at George Bush and the steadfast belief that it was American foreign policy and not a particular strain of Islamic theology that fanned the fires of jihad. Thus the fury at Israel when it asserts its right of self-defense, even to the point of blaming the rise of the Islamic State on Israeli/Palestinian relations, when the Islamic State is fighting its wars against Shiites, Kurds, Yazidis, and Americans. Next, there's the sophomoric, malicious style of campus rhetoric, where stigma is the preferred method of argument. It’s hard to overstate the propensity towards name-calling even of "elite" academics, and the culture of the academy is one where groupthink is enforced and reinforced through vicious rhetoric. Their opponents can’t be merely wrong. Instead they are racist, bigoted, homophobic, or -- despite professed love of the disabled -- "Aspergery." The arrogance is overwhelming, and the fake tough-guy posture of name-calling elitists is laughable to everyone but themselves. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

How's that working out asshole, now that the people we defeated in Iraq have now opened up under a new name and are murdering their way across Europe? Head to a liberal Protestant church during Advent and you can hear about a homeless Palestinian unwed mother.
Exactly, its not about the gospel, its not about Christ, its not about God, its not about salvation, its not about sin, its not about love... its about turning away poor people, greed, homeless people, palestinians, and motherhood. This is the kind of thing that enraged Jesus Christ when he was on earth. Drove him berserk. The stuff that made him tear up the temple, that prompted him to call people whitewashed tombs and hypocrites. This is the sort of thing that stokes the hottest fires of hell. The problem is that all of this progressivism isn't going to convince enough progressives that they are wrong, were wrong and will always be wrong.
The suffering of the policies they advocate for and work tirelessly to implement will have to be much, much worse than now. And even when that day comes, the truth laid bare before their eyes, they will just say,"That's okay. I'm still right and everything I believe in is true and good. But the conservatives won this time." There will be no acknowledgement that they, themselves, were wrong and stupid. Their strategies and tactics will change but not their fundamental core beliefs. You'd think that the person who lived under Islam during his formative years would have a better understanding of the different facets of the religion and attempt to see that when they fight each other we win. When the crabs are all in the same pot trying to get out, there is never any need to put a lid on top. As one approaches escape, without fail another will pull him back inside.
Permitting the adherents of the different sects of Islam to escape to our country will undoubtedly go down in history as his most damning legacy. Those who do not actively engage their representatives and express their outrage will someday have to look themselves in the mirror when the inevitable happens; whether midair, enjoying a football game, having a leisurely dinner out, or enjoying a band at a nightclub. I also wrote Catholic Charities of New Orleans, who hosting the "refugees" (with Federal taxpayer funds) during their 90 day settlement period and helping them sign up for DHS (welfare) programs to tell them what I think of them helping ISIS to infiltrate this country while ISIS beheads Christians in the Middle East. Germany/Netherlands and Norway are in process of creating a "spearhead" of approx. 3500 fast reaction troops supposedly ready by mid-summer 2016. That's it. That's the best Europe can do. Gabe was being petulant this morning about states refusing syrians and other migrants. The legal basis for refusing them being shaky? As if that matters in the age of sanctuary cities and OBama's no-control of the border. What? Only the left can violate the law in an effort to flood the country? He wants anarchy, how about a little push back? Posted by: joe-impeachin44 at November 16, 2015 03:23 PM (AWe5n) Since bringing them in was illegal why should expelling them be illegal. Ben Rhodes, Deputy National Security Advisor, was on the TV a lot yesterday, defending Obama's Syrian refugee policy including by making claims about how well the vetting gets done.
This is belied by recent comments made by James Comey, FBI Director, and common sense. I have two questions:
1) These governors who say they're not accepting any Syrian "refugees", how are they going to enforce that? 2) Like another commenter remarked in a previous thread, with a sizable percentage of the population that is more concerned with free shit and whatever -ism that's popular, what is the incentive for the rest to fight for them? I understand that ISIS needs to be dealt with, but with the current ROE as it is, plus the general apathy, if not hostility, of the crazy fucks in the five-sided nuthouse towards the troops, and with recruitment struggling, who's going to be willing to fight for a nation that's willing to commit suicide? I'm going to call your bullshit. One thing our party completely sucks at is recalling the reasons for all of this ISIS blowback: the invasion of Iraq. Total. Fucking. Disaster.
Nuts. They would still be there, just in a different shape. Why not just blame the Sykes-Picot Agreement? We should do nothing. There is no way that a death cult will survive as a caliphate/state/whatever. Rand is right about this, even though I can't stand the rest of the libertarian fantasies. That is what the Byzantines and Sassanids said...ISIS seems to be following the trajectory of a growing ancient/medieval kingdom, and, yes, there is no reason to think that the model will not work in the modern world. Their crisis will come when they have to make the transition from an expansionistic state based on plunder to a static/less-aggressive state based on taxation and trade. That makes the difference between a flash-in-the-pan kingdom and the beginnings of an empire. So far I haven't seen anything to suggest that they will not make the transition successfully. I don't know if ya'll saw the video circulating on the Syrian refugees.
But, their ultimate point isn't just to GET to Western Europe and North America. Their ultimate goal is to breed. Their ideal outcome is to breed with us Caucasian folks in order to thin the white herd as it is. They want to create a multi-racial world, and in such, be able to allow their ideology to seep into every crevice of the Earth. So, even if 49 out of 50 states disallowed Syrian refugees, they would still pick out weak white women, procreate, and then spread out all over our once great land. @168 EU-NATO members should have at least 100k combat troops at the ready. But they don't. I believe Poland and the Baltic nations have - or are in process of standing up two new brigades - maybe 6k troops total. Polish troops are pretty bad ass - and I expect Lithuanian troops to be of the same caliber.
-------------------- Quite a few NATO nations have over 100,000 military personnel (even Greece!), including Poland. So I suspect I'm missing some nuance in your comment. Also, having 100,000 troops simply isn't practical for some of the very small nations. The most dramatic example of this would be Luxemburg, which has a population that's only slightly over 500,000. It could probably afford a larger military (the country has a little over a thousand active duty personnel), but 100,000 would cripple it economically. Because then Bush would be vindicated. Replace "ISIS" with "Al Qaeda" and there is W's rationale after 9/11. Stolen from elsewhere.
How to handle those who believe we should leave ISIS alone... 1. Engage in conversation, and ask if military force is appropriate. 2. When he says "No," ask, "Why not?" 3. Wait until he says something to the effect of "Because that would just cause more innocent deaths, which would be awful and we should not cause more violence." 4. When he's in mid sentence, punch him in the face as hard as you can. 5. When he gets back up to punch you, point out that it would be a mistake and contrary to his values to strike you, because that would be awful and he should not cause more violence. 6. Wait until he agrees, and has pledged not to commit additional violence. 7. Punch him in the face again, harder this time. 8. Repeat steps 5 through 7 until he understands that sometimes it is necessary to punch back." Posted by: rebel flounder at November 16, 2015 04:08 PM (3dOE/) 416

For the American left, and the American media, (but I repeat myself), European Socialists > Anything American. Always, without fail. Maybe, just maybe, they would consider what someone like Bernie Sanders would say, but really, they would scoff and say that Bernie is misguided on a certain issue, and we need to listen to our betters in Europe (if, and only if we are talking about Socialists. Orban, and other European conservatives all represent the second coming of Hitler). The Socialist President of France just declared war on the Islamic State. Has Chris Christie refused yet to take in any of Obama's Syrian refugees? If he does, I'd be shocked but I'd also know that they were serious.
We have a small--but rapidly growing--and noisy Muslim population that pops out babies at a rate that would have made Catholic families of the 1940's and 50's blush. They are noisy and they are politically active. They are not in ghettos though and many of them are in business. You would not believe how many restaurants and hookah lounges there are centered around Main street in the Paterson/Clifton area .... If we get Syrian refugees, they will literally be on my doorstep. Sorry guys, but bombing rubble in the Middle East doesn't work. Never worked. Until you actually stop all immigration from Muslim countries, and all Muslim immigraiton, then I'll consider bombing some rubble on behalf of Israel.
Bomb people, not rubble. Make it obvious that 1) we are going to win and 2) jihadism hurts not only jihadis but anyone else who happens to be around them and even Islam itself, and the "moderates" will decided that they need to stamp out radicalism among them. "Moderates" can't persuade the radicals to be peaceful on a textual basis, only on a tactical basis ("Jihad is currently a counterproductive tactic") and as long as the Jihadis appear to be winning the moderates, who sympathize with their long term goal, will tolerate them. Shep Smith's rant should have been followed by a censorship buzz with a note, you're fired, running across the screen.
What a line-up - one liberal general after another to support his claim that violence alone in the process of getting rid of terrorism hasn't worked so far. Let me see here.....from what I can tell they have done everything BUT ruthless violence to put a stop on it. Air strikes when only they can confirm there won't be any collateral damage. Taking out their infrastructure only AFTER telling them to get out of the way or they would get hurt. Stopping money flow through the banks, spying, etc. Shep, when they start blowing up the mosques and schools and homes that they learned this stuff in, when they start bombing civilian crowds that gather in material support of the terrorists - then, and only then, can you say if 'extreme violence' against them works or not. Until then, we are giving them a little slap on the wrist. Posted by: doug at November 16, 2015 04:18 PM (zupaO) 477

8. It's true that this is all the fault of Western civilization. If it weren't for Western civilization, we'd all be living in mud or animal skin huts, spending our days foraging, and resigned to a high infant death rate and old age in your 40s.
Western civilization threw all that out, and brought in a whole raft of new problems that we're dealing with today. Posted by: LCMS Rulz! at November 16, 2015 04:39 PM (PEgKF) 536

Bomb threat at Harvard today, around noon, bombs said to be in Science Center and 3 other classroom buildings which are all still shut down, copters overhead.
HA, I was wondering why not only our guv (who is, after all, nominally Republican) but even Maaahty mayor of Boston called for more info on vetting before accepting anyone. Posted by: Trotsky w/a thesis in his headwound at November 16, 2015 04:47 PM (xDEv1) 540
Obama is simply a neo-isolationist who doesn't want US involved in foreign wars.
Libya was Hillary's idea. He's only in Syria because Mosul fell and he looks bad, and because Kobane was going to be overrun and look bad. He's trying to pull us out of the ME. He may even be right about that, too. The problem is he doesn't say that. He still talks tough. Maybe he doesn't want to reveal this plan to our allies. Obama is a sociopath . Read the Hare Psychopathology Checklist , which is pretty much the accepted clinical measure . He hits pretty high up on the scale . And just for one , a single indicator , O never ever admits he was wrong or changes his mind , never ever . And BTW sociopaths are not just the guys with knives stabbing the gal in the shower , the garden variety is the guy who will stick some poor working stiff with a lemon car just for his commission and never think twice : no conscience works that way etc etc etc . Obama is a sociopath

On a fed Homeland Security site I found yesterday, it said there have been 15 foiled terrorist plots in MA so far this year, one in Adams where the plan was to bomb one or more college campuses. There is no college in Adams, but it's right next door to Amherst!

Watching him just now spew absolute nonsense that makes no sense whatsoever. People claim to understand it but it is simply "smart" words strung together in endless compound sentences that is hustler-speak. It is pseudo "intelligent" speak. Also known as bullshit. There is no thought behind it. It is just regurgitation like a Chinese blab school or those skinny little crazy looking boys screaming out Koranic verses in a madrasas. You hear better bull spewed by timeshare sales or just arrested teenage felons. Why anyone ever listened to or believed this street hustler is beyond me.

Don't forget that Obama is the only person on the planet that continues to call ISIS, ISIL. He says, "We've contained them from the start....", implying we've held them back from spreading out of Iraq and Syria, hence the name ISIS. Yet, he continues to call them ISIL which suggests they spread their influence all along the eastern Mediterranean region call the Levant. In other words, Mr. president "genius" is giving them far more credit than credits due.

This is how I feel about Obama and his family. If I saw a group of ISIS fanatics in the process of publicly beheading him while raping his wife and daughters, and I had the power to stop them...I would not do so. He has made it clear since before his first inauguration that he hates people like me for my race, gender and sexual orientation. Well, I don't guess he should be surprised that I reciprocate the feelings in spades.
What sympathy I have for anyone in the U.S. Government at this point is reserved for those in the military who have the sad misfortune to have this traitorous, bastard son of a whore as their commander in chief. THEY have my sympathy. Obama and the rest of them? I wish them nothing but ill. He is not my president and he never has been. Posted by: mac at November 17, 2015 03:10 AM (ilMXv) 564
I can't condone the "rape and beheading...do nothing" approach of mac. We need to stop their evil then commit to our version of it against them.
I had an Afghan interpreter near Konduz. He was always proselytizing to me, telling my how perfect Islam is. I told him bluntly many times that I was not allowed, forbidden by the US Military in fact, to discuss my religion with host country nationals and that I would appreciate it if he stopped. He didn't. One day, I said: "Let me tell you the difference between Islam and Christianity. We will sacrifice our eternal souls to protect our daughters from harm but you won't sacrifice your family honor." That ended the conversation. Years later, I was discussing the matter with my Chaplain and he said that really only 10% of Muslims are extremists but they are similar to the WWJD Christians. The difference is the when people weigh their actions against how they perceive Christ would act, it is to instill forgiveness or goodness into the believer. The What Would Mohammed Do crowd are similar but different, he said. Would Mohammed behead apostates? Yup. Stone women to death for adultery? Yup. Indiscriminately kill infidels? Yup. In this conversation, I stumbled upon what I think is an absolute truth. We are, in America, Judeo-Christian but we have a bad case of practicing the faith only on the important holidays. Probably 90% of us are Easter Baptists and Sunday Catholics. We rely on having a forgiving God who will take our works in total on Judgement Day but we know we will have some explaining to do. Now combine the whole story I have told here. We will sacrifice our eternal souls for our children but only 90% of us are really devout. They will sacrifice their children but only about 10% are true extremists. We only need to fear 10% of them. They should fear 90% of us. We are the crusaders. We know will commit great evil to protect our loved ones. We know we are sinners and, if pressed to do so, will wash our sins away with the blood of Muslims and protect our innocent at the same time. We know these days will come. We should get started so we can get it over with. Posted by: sgmstv at November 18, 2015 08:31 AM (T0dFH) Processing 0.08, elapsed 0.0875 seconds. |
