FBI Expanding Hillary Email Probe To Include Investigation into "Materially False" Statements

Surely you must be mistaken. But I'm not happy. I'll tell you why in a moment.The FBI has expanded its probe of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's emails beyond a provision involving "gross negligence" with national defense information, Fox News reports.Here's what I feel in my gut: This is just clearing the decks of all possible charges, so they can say "nothing here can be charged against her." I remember during the OJ Simpson trial. During deliberation, the jurors asked to have the transcript of a particularly damning bit of evidence against OJ -- I believe it was the hired car driver who reported OJ's lateness to come to the door, state of agitation when he got there, and strange driving instructions afterwards. I remember people saying "That means they're going to convict him." I felt in my bones that what they were doing was looking at this as the last, damning piece of evidence they had failed to yet dismiss entirely, and they were re-reading the transcript just to see how they could dismiss this testimony, too. Which is, alas, exactly what they were doing. I think the FBI is corrupt at highest levels -- not at the agent level, but at the level of the political brass, and they are sifting through each charge to find a way to say Hillary did nothing wrong. Oh, they'll do what they always do with the Clintons; they'll come up with a "compromise" that gives the Clintons what they want. They'll say what she did was "reckless" and "against all security protocols," which they'll offer up to prove this wasn't a whitewash. But in the final analysis, in the last paragraph, they'll say: "Despite some serious misgivings about Secretary Clinton's handling of the information and her candor in describing her actions, the panel can find no actual breaches of the law in anything she did." Then the Clintons will do what they always do, and say, "If we're not convicted and in jail, that means we're innocent. We have been cleared of any possible wrongdoing. These questions have all be asked and answered. This was always a right-wing witch hunt and now we have the proof. This is old news. It's time to MoveOn.org." I just don't feel like we live in a Republic anymore. We live in a gangster country, and the top of each agency knows they have to curry favor with the reigning gang.
Agents are now also looking at whether statements that have been made violate a federal statute on providing "materially false" information, according to Fox.
"The agents involved are under a lot of pressure and are busting a--," an unidentified intelligence source told the network, which noted that the statute can be broadly applied.

That's why the GOP strategy of focusing on the illegality of her actions is misplaced. Instead, they should be focusing on the lack of judgement and what that says about her fitness to be President. This angle isn't dependent on a corrupt DOJ or FBI to prosecute, and it goes to the issue that matters most: do voters feel comfortable with some one as stupid and reckless and Clinton in the White House.

So the question is: "Who steps in!?!"

I'm not sure what this buys the FBI if the ultimate goal is to let her off. Nobody really believes she isn't guilty save for a few Japanese soldiers on remote islands. Increasing the level of kabuki isn't going to convince anyone.

There was no way Hillary was ever going to get in any legal trouble for the following reasons
a) she is far from the only one breaking laws regarding retaining federal records
b) she is far from the only one in DC with all kinds of corrupt side deals going on

c) she is the presumptive next president (in the eyes of everyone in DC, at least), and she is "too big to fail" as it were, and no one is going to throw the presumptive first female president in jail.

Really, what might actually work is putting the pressure on President Trump AFTER he's elected, if Obama is too careless, or just contemptuous enough of the Clintons, to NOT pardon her. You might be right. The FBI just might be clearing the decks to release a finding of: "Clinton was somewhat reckless. But no law was broken, here."
- I think the intuition you're sharing seems disturbingly plausible.
But consider what the FBI would be risking if they did that. They wouldn't just be setting an atrocious precedent that could embolden other malicious assholes to similarly jeopardize national security in the future. (And make it harder to prosecute them.)
The FBI would also be risking their credibility and standing with the public at a fundamental level.
No, most Americans are paying close attention to conclude the FBI is corrupt if it fails to prosecute obvious criminal activity.
But enough Americans are closely watching that if the FBI exonerates the obvious criminal behavior and corruption of Clinton in plain sight of God and everyone that they run the risk of turning themselves into a sick national joke. - An enduring punchline.

- I think the intuition you're sharing seems disturbingly plausible.
But consider what the FBI would be risking if they did that. They wouldn't just be setting an atrocious precedent that could embolden other malicious assholes to similarly jeopardize national security in the future. (And make it harder to prosecute them.)
The FBI would also be risking their credibility and standing with the public at a fundamental level.
No, most Americans are paying close attention to conclude the FBI is corrupt if it fails to prosecute obvious criminal activity.
But enough Americans are closely watching that if the FBI exonerates the obvious criminal behavior and corruption of Clinton in plain sight of God and everyone that they run the risk of turning themselves into a sick national joke. - An enduring punchline.

Each state's laws are different. The laws in NY may not be the same in SC, etc. A state judge commenting on Federal issues would have no more authority than you do. Huge over site on Fox's part.

My 'experience' with the FBI was living around Boston when the Whitey Bulger stuff broke . I read the Globe every day , but only for the sports section , snark snark . As that unfolded ( sic ), more and more the sense grew these FBI guys are dirty as sin . So beginning with The Departed , the rest of the world knows that a couple of FBI guys were dirty , very dirty . And now anyone paying attention knows that it was not just the two lead mutts that were dirty, the whole office knew that the FBI was in bed with Bulger . And as bad as the betrayal is/was , what more folks need to understand is not that Whitey used FBI intel to run his rackets but that folks , sometimes very innocent folks were murdered . And not just murdered, but tortured and murdered And the entire Boston FBI office knew , they knew , what Bulger was doing with Connoly's tips .
