Overnight Open Thread (11-4-2015)

Quote of the Day I

Crazy old people are our entire source of polling information.

-- P. J. O'Rourke

Quote of the Day II

The next time some academics tell you how important "diversity" is, ask how many Republicans there are in their sociology department.

-- Thomas Sowell

Quote of the Day III

It's clear that in his final days in office, the president is making it a priority to give leniency to criminals.

He announced other hug-a-thug policies Monday at his "criminal justice reform" speech in Newark, N.J., where Democratic Sen. Cory Booker joined him on the stage. He's pushing bills not only to permanently prohibit the government and its contractors from asking job applicants about criminal histories in questionnaires but also to further slash sentences for crack dealers. They include:

. Removing criminal background checks on Section 8 housing.

. Giving Pell grants to incarcerated inmates.

. Granting SBA loans to parolees.

. Capping all in-state and interstate prison phone rates for inmates and their contacts on the outside.

[I'm actually okay with the last item since insanely priced prison phone services do take advantage of literally captive customers]

Quote of the Day IV

"There is a self-hatred in the West that can be considered only as something pathological. The West attempts in a praiseworthy manner to open itself completely to the comprehension of external values, but it no longer loves itself; it now only sees what is despicable and destructive in its own history, while it is no longer able to perceive what is great and pure there."

-- Pope Benedict XVI

Quote of the Day V

Initially, there was plenty of resistance. As one food bank director told Canice Prendergast, an economist advising Feeding America, "I am a socialist. That's why I run a food bank. I don't believe in markets. I'm not saying I won't listen, but I am against this." But the Chicago economists managed to design a market that worked even for participants who did not believe in it. Within half a year of the auction system being introduced, 97 percent of food banks won at least one load, and the amount of food allocated from Feeding America's headquarters rose by over 35 percent, to the delight of volunteers and donors.

-- From a story on how a free market system using a currency called 'shares' is used to efficiently and fairly distribute donated food to food banks across the country

Quote of the Day VI

Every time I get to feeling sorry about taxi drivers and their Uber-disrupted industry, I take a ride in a Sydney taxi.

This instantly cures me of any sadness and instead makes me think that Uber drivers are not only justified in destroying the taxi business, but that Uber drivers should also be allowed to throw taxi drivers out of their houses and sell their children into slavery. A back-to-back comparison this weekend was especially illuminating.

City to Lane Cove, via taxi. Car: a grindy old Ford Falcon. Driver: a man who spoke no language known to humankind, and who immediately became lost. No functioning GPS was available. The driver appeared unfamiliar with the concept of "north".

Lane Cove to city, via Uber. Car: a smooth Chrysler 300C. Driver: a well-spoken young man who happily cranked up the radio when a favourite song came on. Directions were not an issue.

-- Tim Blair

Brown University Student Makes Out With a Girl at a Party, Has His Life Destroyed

This might be the most egregious miscarriage of campus kangaroo court justice I have seen to date. Despite exonerating texts from the girl, Facebook photos, and witness accounts the university expelled him from campus in a mockery of due process. It's so bad that he's now suing both the university and the girl - and has a decent chance of winning.

Gizmodo: OMFG Ted Cruz Is Totally Unsafe Carrying This Deadly Shotgun!!!!

Can spot all the gun-safety violations in this photo of Ted Cruz carrying a shotgun after a pheasant hunt? [Answer below]

tedshotgun

But then just because Gizmodo found a list of gun safety rules on the web doesn't mean that they can actually understand them. Bob Owens points out that by Jeff Cooper's own description of the four basic rules of gun safety Cruz is perfectly in compliance. And Gizmodo is literally too dumb to know what they don't know.

Why is SteynOnline.com Blacklisted on United's In-Flight WiFi?

Some readers have asked whether I ever heard back from United. Yes. Two days later, they sent a Tweet claiming my site was blocked only because of "excessive bandwidth" - due to my cat video, presumably, which hadn't yet been posted. In any case, that doesn't explain why anyone attempting to access SteynOnline is automatically redirected to a United Airways page marked in the URL bar as "unitedwifi.com/global/errors/site-blacklist" with a warning about "inappropriate" content. Most people in the blacklist business aren't upfront enough to label it a "blacklist", but United does and very publicly.

They asked us to DM them, so we did, and three days later they have yet to reply.

I should add that I'm very touched by the United Airways pilots who've written to me to say how personally embarrassed they are by their company's hostility to free speech. One United captain came to a speech I gave and waited very patiently afterwards to apologize for his airline's behavior.

Note that United also blocks FoxNews stories.

23 Year Old Intersectional Feminist is 'So F-king Exhausted' With the World's Bullshit

this is what sexism does - it makes it impossible to win if you're a girl, or a woman, it makes your entire existance an uphill battle. and truth be told, i am getting so f-king tired. i am 23, a quarter of my life behind me, and i am already tired of educating men twice my age about what is right and appropriate. i am tired of the stares that say i am over-reacting, the replies to calm down, the polite smiles that are meant to knock me down a few pegs. i am tired of explaining to men that sexism is not this one incident, it is my entire life, my every single day. i am 23 and i am so f-king exhausted.

I'm afraid it's gonna be a long hard lonely life for you, baby.

Theory: Jar Jar Binks was a trained Force user, knowing Sith collaborator, and will play a central role in The Force Awakens

As we all know, one of Lucas' big deals with the prequels was that they were intended to "rhyme" and mirror the original trilogy in terms of general narrative themes. So there should have been a seemingly innocent creature found on the side of the road that later reveals itself as a major player. We do have a creature that this seems to describe precisely... Jar Jar... but of course he never develops into a "master" anything.

Here's what I think happened: I think that Jar Jar was initially intended to be the prequel (and Dark Side) equivalent of Yoda. Just as Yoda has his "big reveal" when we learn that his tottering, geriatric goofball persona is just a mask, Jar Jar was intended to have a big reveal in Episode II or III where we learn that he's not really a naive dope, but rather a master puppeteer Sith in league with (or perhaps in charge of) Palpatine.

However, GL chickened out. The fan reaction to Jar Jar was so vitriolic that this aspect of the trilogy was abandoned. Just too risky... if Jar Jar is truly that off-putting, it's potentially ruinous to the Star Wars legacy to imply that he's the ultimate bad guy of the entire saga. So pretend he was just a failed attempt at comic relief instead.

72 The "hunger in America" thing is bullshit. There's not a single person hungry in America, apart from supermodels. We have an obesity problem, and the poorest (i.e., stupidest) people are the fattest. Ghettos are full of 300 lb. "food insecure" moms.

One outfit in my city got into bed with the local retarded politicians to help "fight hunger." I went on the outfit's website, and found their "success stories," complete with photos of the unfortunates. Shit, they were ALL overweight, by a lot. Every photo showed someone with 3+_2 chins. I pointed out to the webmaster that their "unfortunates" could all double as Jenny Craig "before" photos. His response? To delete all of the photos. I'm not making this up.

So as much as liberals love to think there is a big problem with hunger in America, I strongly suspect it's bullshit. Census figures indicate that ca. 95+% of American households own a color TV, for example. If you're going hungry, you're for damned sure not going to buy a color TV, and if you have one, you're going to hock it tout suite.

So I refuse to give a penny to "fight hunger" until and unless those doing so provide me with incontrovertible proof that there really ARE people going hungry in America.

I'm on Disc 2, and this is fucking awesome. These are three of the greatest rock albums in history, recorded over a 14 month period, and you get to hear each day in the studio as it happened. The false starts and flubs, as well as the tracks that ended up being released. Some of the songs evolved and gradually came together over a period of time, with the final versions being quite different from the early attempts.

If the muzzies demand that the socialist elites ban something near and dear to THEIR hearts, such as wine or gay privileges, then you'll see serious pushback.

80 Why Liberals Identify with Criminals

Piece written by some retard named Tim Trinko. Seems to think that prohibition only affects liberals.

Prohibition brings normally law abiding citizens into close proximity to criminals. It is no surprise that this eats away at the respect that many citizens would otherwise have for the law.

Duh!

I think a better explanation of the liberal mindset towards more serious crime is the r/K selection theory up in the sidebar. There are 2 links; one to a Bill Whittle video and the other to a blogpost by a guy who calls himself anonymous conservative. Both are very interesting.

82 to the 23 yo that's just fcuking tired?

Try getting up in the morning when you're 68 honey.

My knees hurt, my back hurts, I'm fat and ugly and sweat so guess what? I smell bad a lot because it's difficult to shower and I don't have a bathtub. My eyes are getting worse (nearsightedness) the likelihood that I'll soon loose some cognitive ability is about 50/50, I live along, I can't even have a cat because I'm afraid that I'd die and it would starve because no one would know and come take it away. I have no children, have no family (left alive), any friends I had are either dead or moved away, my kidneys are failing and I can't get a boner anymore (just these ghost ones where it FEELS like I have one but it's still soft. TMI?)

My prospects, or more correctly prognosis, is not good as my life expectancy is measured in months on most charts.

If I make it through the next two years that gets a little better.

And to top that all off I have to read about some whiny little beyotch who's never gone hungry a day in her life, or had to sweat to earn barely enough money to do so, who has a myriad number of choices and lives in the one of the freest countries in the world (for a while yet) and who can walk most places without fear moaning about how tough her short little life has been.

Grow up, make yourself useful to someone or something. Stand up and try to face the facts; You don't know shit.

He gave me the Spanish fly argument: somewhere else, not here, some chick have bonked herself to death on a gearshift because of Spanish fly. Also, people were going hungry in the same town. Which is ... elsewhere. Somewhere you've never been.

102 "Grow up, make yourself useful to someone or something. Stand up and try to face the facts; You don't know shit."

This is the absolutely predictable consequence of "Self Esteem" policies enacted in the 90s. All these Millennials think they're brilliant, gifted, wonderful, beautiful, and with the answers to everything. Worse, they are extraordinarily self-centered and think that their pet peeves or personal issues are crises, and it's magnified by their constant access to megaphones to scream about them (i.e. social media), and esp. with other neurotic failed abortions who validate their insanity.

I'm among the oldest of these people (early 30s) in an undergraduate program, so I'm often exposed. Most aren't this bad, but almost all of them are somewhat broken; mentally weak and arrogant [anecdotes deleted, because long]. And I hold them in special contempt because they're only a bit younger than me, but SO much more pathetic.

I credit the wars. I was 18 on 9/11. Something like half the boys in my High School class joined the military, including me. We conquered Iraq and defeated al Qaeda. That'll grow you up. Despite exonerating texts from the girl, Facebook photos, and witness accounts the university expelled him from campus in a mockery of due process. It's so bad that he's now suing both the university and the girl - and has a decent chance of winning.

Suing the universities doesn't seem to be curtailing their fascist policies, especially the Ivy's with their billion dollar endowments. Any legal costs and damages are chump change to them.

Suing the actual SJW special snowflake making the accusations might actually put some real fear into them since the cost of legal representation alone could put a serious dent into their ability to pay their college tuition.

119 Google "trillion dollars visualized". Behold the images:
One hundred $100 bills = $10K and is a little bundle, wrapped up with a little piece of paper tape saying $10K

One million dollars is one hundred of these little bundles. It makes a nice little pile that would come up about ankle height and would fit in plastic grocery bag. It weighs almost exactly 10kg (~22lbs), so you'd probably want a little stronger bag.

$100M is one hundred of those little piles, which would make a pallet sized stack coming up between your waist and your chest and weighs 1 metric ton.

$1B is ten of those pallets, 10 metric tons

$1T is one thousand of those pallets, 10 metric kilotons of money.

If you spent $1M per day since the year 1AD, you'd have spent $700B and still have $300B left over.

US total public debt is $18.5T roughly.

I get what you are saying. Do you have zinc carbonate on hand to treat for H2S? I have been on wells where that stuff was added to the mud to passivate any sulfide ion present. Big, brown-paper sacks, that were labeled "Zinc Carbonate, product of China".

140 Dear lord that brown university story is awful.

The pattern is pretty obvious: spurned girl with hurt feelings gets together with friends and remembers her womyn's studies classes, screams rape to make that mean boy pay for not paying her proper respect. University instantly assumes the girl is 100% totally right and crushes boy like bug. Boy staggers around confused and afraid because he's been totally blindsided by a tyrannical organization with absolute power over his life.

Even if the university sees this is a problem, they're so afraid of stirring up the bee's nest by saying the girl has to go through proper channels they just ignore rights, justice, logic, and facts. For them, its a choice between a month of protests, riots, national TV, broken windows, chanted slogans, shut down campus, and national figures making speeches in the commons or ruining one boy's life.

Suing the universities doesn't seem to be curtailing their fascist policies, especially the Ivy's with their billion dollar endowments.

That's because the lawyers never go for enough. They need to approach this as they would big businesses, and point out to juries how rich these places really are and how badly they have to be hurt to even notice a penalty. You wouldn't sue Citibank for $500,000, they'd look under the couch cushions for that much. You don't sue universities for a couple hundred grand either.

Posted by: Christopher Taylor at November 05, 2015 12:28 AM (39g3+)

Exactly right. You want change? Harvard has a $36.4B endowment -- losing half of it in one case would certainly get their attention. They say their target support for the University is 5% per year. To my mind, that should put $2B on the table as a minimum.

All of the citizens of all of the Asian countries hate each other. To a lot of round-eyed barbarians, Japanese, Koreans, and Chinese all look alike. But each of those groups know how to tell each other apart with a single glance. And woe betide the round-eyed barbarian that confuses one with the other. The same goes for all of the other Asian ethnic groups.

Japanese war crimes during World War 2, and the refusal of Japan to acknowledge said crimes, has simply provided even more ammunition to those who want to encourage the hate.

This is a problem at the moment because China needs a good slapping, and the only way to do that is for the Asian nations to ally with each other. And Japan's going to need to play a prominent role in whatever happens.

In other words, someone has the money for food, but they get food stamps, so they spend that money on tattoos. They wouldn't starve w/o welfare.

Not all oil and gas wells are sour (meaning they contain H2S). Here in Alberta at least, the sour formations are only those older than Cretaceous. And it is routine here, or used to be, at any rate, to produce (profitably) gas that is 35% Sour from deep Mississipian wells in the foothills. Sour gas goes to a gas plant that strips out the sulfur, which is a valuable industrial commodity in its own right.

Some oil is sour, too, and stinks of H2S, but it is typically only a hazard to unwary workers on the lease. The sour gas cannot break out of the oil fast enough to form a plume large enough to pose a risk to people a quarter mile away. There are oil and gas wells within a quarter mile of my home, and I am completely sanguine about it.

It's going to take someone who's willing to ruin some lives to make change.

Or we elect a conservative aware of the problem, and he appoints someone to run the Dept of Ed who issues the following statement on the first day:

"Because of the epidemic of sexual predators on college campuses, the Dept of Ed now requires all schools, when they become aware of an accusation of rape or sexual assault, to immediately turn the case over to the local police who will prosecute it. This tragedy is too important for untrained school administrators to handle, our young women deserve the full protection of the law".

226 I like Fennel, my mom's all-time fave pizza place since the 1950s is a place in Belmont Shore called Domenico's.

They make the pizza exactly like they did in the 1950s. Thin crust, they bake the cheese into the dough *before* adding the sauce, and they use finely crumbled italian sausage that entirely covers the pie. No icky sausage lumps like you find from Pizza Hut and places of their ilk.

They also do pepperoni ground up on your pizza, rather than sliced (unless you specifically request sliced). I'm sure more than one person has ordered a pepperoni pizza there in the past and been shocked to find it served with the crumbling.

Instituting a policy change is only good until a new administration arrives that opposes the previous administration's views. Also, government functionaries can be very good at circumventing laws. 272 Yeah, I bought a deep fryer a little under a year ago. I love it, and you do get better with practice, practice, practice. And you make boo-boos.

I got in my head I was going to make country fried steak a few weeks ago, remembering how damn good that used to be with the "sawmill" gravy. I mixed up onion and pepper in beef and made up a good batter.

I formed the patties and deep dried them. They were great. Only problem, that one deep frying of the ground beef ruined the oil in that one go. It pulled out the fat from the meat, and also some damned stringy pieces of whatever (proteins, I assume, or who knows what).

It was a nasty mess. But damn the patties were delicious. To country fry steak, it seems you need to it the old way, in a pan with one-time used oil.

If anyone knows how to preserver a deep fryer full of oil with that, I'd appreciate it.

Society is evolutionary. If destructive elements are too strong, the society dies off. If the constructive elements are strong enough, the society thrives.

The Left are "Intellegent Design" supporters at their core. Any such "constructed" society has as much of a chance of surviving as a maggot created from pure elemental starting materials.

The sad thing is that our society is, or was, a race freak example where society developes with positive elements that were conducive towards liberty and virtue, as well as tolerance hetherto unknown in the world. Sadly, that tolerance was used to destroy that balance of liberty and virtue.

We either find out own "Terminus", or we are erased from history.

(I couldn't ascertain the exact age of the person but they were definitely under 40.) He didn't believe me. He couldn't image how the schools could possibly have operated with central federal guidance.

This same person was convinced that his generation was far more intelligent than previous generations because he didn't know any old people who were power users on any major computer OS. After all, he didn't know of any 80 year old with a CS degree. I had to explain that the first CS program was started in 1962 and was INVENTED by those 80 year olds who had their degrees in Math or Engineering. He couldn't wrap his head around the idea that if he had a time machine and brought the 20 year old version of his grandmother forward to today, she'd only need a few weeks to acclimate enough to being a Facebook addict.

They screamed and made such asses of themselves, they broke the established order down, just slowly giving them what they wanted just to shut them up. They went in and just shit all over everything, sometimes literally, to get what they wanted.

And they were hated, but they didn't give a shit. Despised, loathed with passion, but they kept it up until they won.

Want to take it back, you've got to be as big a bunch of assholes as they were, against them.

Yeah, the oil gets foggy, but at least in my experience it stays the same temp and will still cook your meat.

Onions, garlic, chives, scallions, and the like are all members of the lily family -- and there are onion-y scallion varieties, garlic-y scallion varieties, varieties of white onions that are like green onions, varieties of chives that are like green onions, varieties of chives that are garlic-y, and the like.

It's just that those aren't the varieties in your local supermarket.

282 When I was a kid the stuff handed out on Halloween was far more varied and included a lot of homemade stuff, which was often regarded with suspicion. Not for fear of poison or dangerous objects but for being far down on the treat scale compared to homes giving out stuff that was a known quantity and quality. (There was always the one kid with odd taste who liked candy corn or circus peanuts or other Kaboom-ish candies, to whom everybody would trade those items to obtain the more desirable stuff he'd collected.)

Sometimes I'd suspect a unintentionally collusive conspiracy between kids and packaged candy makers to render home made or non-packaged items in the category that could make the residents of the home dispensing them pariahs.

Dept. of Education was a SJW stronghold from the moment of its creation. It was created for that very purpose during an era where bad ideas were destroying education. It cannot be turned around because it is inherently a bad agency. It can only be destroyed and the ground salted.

Exactly. I don't have to respect the Department of Education because I REMEMBER WHEN IT WAS STARTED (1980). It was a stupid, unconstitutional idea then -- and it's a stupid, wasteful, propagandist, unconstitutional idea now. There are 4,400 assholes employed there today, and their annual budget is $68B. There is no metric I can even begin to imagine that would not improve in the United States if these 4,400 individuals were teleported into deep space and their budget reassigned to stockpiling toilet paper.

The irony is that private institutions have a far greater freedom to go bats**t insane than publice ones (which share constraints on government that private colleges don't).

Many public colleges were set up with endowments that should have allowed them to function in perpetuity without either tuition or taxes. There is a reason that the University of California system started to charge "fees" rather than "tuition" (which was banned). But then back then they could cope because they didn't function under a "Bachlor's degree for everyone" mentality.

I already do that -- sorta.

First stop: Oakland Chinatown, 4:55pm.

The vegetable markets -- which are already the cheapest places to buy produce possibly anywhere in California -- are starting to close down, and a lot of them put out big bags of bruised and wilted and past-their-date vegetables for usually 99 cents a bag -- for, like, 3 pounds of whatever. Just ridiculous crazy-cheap.

Pretty often you can find a big 99 cent bag of garlic that's unsellable because the cloves are starting to sprout, they've been in the store so long.

So I buy it, get maybe 30 heads of "ruined" garlic. With, maybe, 8 cloves per head, that's 240 garlic garlic starters for my garden -- for less than a buck!

Step two: Go home, and the next day spend half an hour breaking apart the cloves and turning over some random dirt in the backyard and pressing all 240 cloves about an inch-and-half down -- just willy-nilly, randomly, not in uprtght rows or anything.

Step three: Forget about your no-cost garlic garden and DO NOTHING and just let nature take its course for a few months.

Step four: Just when you've completely forgotten about Plan Garlic -- voila! Out-of-control garlic chives start sprouting all over the garden. Zillions of them.

Now, if you were a farmer, you'd ignore the sprouts and let them grow, flower and die, and THEN you'd harvest the bulbs.

But you're not a farmer: you're a clever food consultant who wants to use garlic chives in place of onions in recipes.

So you harvest the chives in great bunches, whenever they are needed, and chop 'em up like scallions or green onions, and substitute them in any recipe calling for onions.

Delicious? You've never tasted delicious til you've had garnions!

Here's a thought -- since graduating with a Grievance Studies major has nothing to do with appreciating Shakespeare, why not have an "English Civilization" certification and let the marketplace decide how much value that has? Specifically, let's see how that weighs in vs. a "Hispanic Civilization" certification -- you can get one of each, or either, or none....and it doesn't matter how you were born, Juan Gutierrez can get a certificate for English Civilization and John Smith can get a certificate for Hispanic Civilization.

Green beans, pearl onions and red pepper sauteed in butter, garlic . . .

Mashed yams w/Brown sugar smothered in melted butter . . .

Halibut steaks baked half way then finished baking with a butter and garlic sauteed Portobello mushroom cap on top (the shroom juices soak through the fish dying the last 15 minutes of cooking), finally garnished with a little homemade chimichurri sauce I learned to make from the former owner of The Grill From Ipanema in Seattle (stupid name - brilliant food). Best piece of meat I have ever tasted was that Halibut and I Do Not EVER Like Halibut.

The guy who taught me to make the chimichurri sauce converted his detached garage into a man cave with: 1. Picture of the current Pope on wall; 2. Huge television showing South American soccer on infinite loop; 3. Huge wooden table that seated ten; 4. An 8 foot wide, two-level, wood-fueled grill (and proper range hood), just like in his old restaurant. The meal he cooked for me and about 8 friends was the best meal I have ever been served in my life. I am drooling typing this.

Will be heading to The Grill From Ipanema this weekend. It is now run by one of the best bartenders in the world, and the food is still epic.

Not sure of the genetic background, but they are functionally a cross between garlic and onion.

They are also one of the best pairings with bacon.

I make Spinach Bacon salad by heating bacon (diced) over low heat with chopped shallots (which had been soaking in blasamic viniger). Turn up the heat when most of the fat is rendered and remove the bacon/shallots. Toss briefly raw spinach in the bacon fact and remove. Serve the spinach and bacon/shallot mixture with a dressing made of the bacon fat, the vinigear, and an alcohol of your choice (the alcohol helps solubilization).

At any rate, I suspect the potential problem with solids is the heating element *and the temperature sensors* need to be uniformly immersed, and any air gaps with solids could be a problem.

So melting it in the pan and pouring it in would solve the initial solid problem, but I wonder if the stuff shrinks enough as it solidifies and cools that little air gaps might develop where you couldn't see 'em.

I'll need to try to get the scoop on that.

But I'm dying for some beef tallow french fries.

You could hit the fire alarm, lock everyone out, blow it away, put everything in their IT on the cloud in less than 10 petabytes, auction off all their shit on ebay overnight, and not even cause a burp.

By the way, the EPA is another Cabinet-level agency that is younger than I am (1973)....

Oh yeah baby! I had that once, in France, back before I went vegetarian. MMMMMmmmmm!!!!!

There's a classic old French cooking theory book which famously divides all of France into three basic culinary regions ("Gallia est omnis divisa in partes tres...")

The Land of Butter
The Land of Olive Oil
and (can you guess the last one?)
The Land of Goose Fat

The absolute best French Food, he claimed, came from the traditional goose fat regions.

I finally got around to taking a basic gun safety/familiarization course recently. I thought the instructor did a very good job and would highly recommend him. If you had the desire to also take the same course (it's in the South Bay), I would be honored to "sponsor" your attendance. I wouldn't have to know your name, I wouldn't have to meet you, we'd have to figure some plausible security thing so that the instructor knew you were "sponsored", but it would be an honor and a pleasure.

340 I'll remember that in case I ever run across some duck fat.

That reminds of something from way back when I was just a little kid. Duck is really greasy isn't it? My mother, and either one of my aunts or one of her friends tried a big roast duck for some big family meal, and IIRC, they decided never to do that again as it was the greasiest mess they ever messed with.

That's what I *think* I remember.

They were in Arizona for most of their existance. The Heart Attack Grill is in Downtown Vegas away from the Strip, which is an area I only go to for the occasional Metal concert. (I also avoid the Strip and the areas close to it, abet for different reasons).

Interestingly enough, Vegas is the only place with both a White Castle and an In n' Out. I think the only major chain that isn't here is Whataburger.

347 I've got to do some Gun Courses. Soon as I pay off the firearms I bought.

I'm on a fixed income and some might think I spent foolishly but I think the rifle and the pistol I got were very good deals for the money and I sensed that the time was finally NOW.

I've had firearms before so I'm safe. Just not any advanced stuff and of course since I got my carry license there's some stuff I need to catch up on legally besides the shooting part.

Thing is for some reason I'm about 30 miles in any direction to a public range that has classes. So it's gonna get expensive.

I figure that things are going to get even more interesting when Obama starts bringing in those "refugees" from Europe and also the invaders from the south.

There's going to be some sort of confrontation and even if not eventually there's going to be violence.

We've already seen it in Europe.

I don't know if I'm happy or sad that I lived long enough to take part in the revolution part II.

6. How to reassure someone having a panic attack.

7. Video games.

It's one of biggest chains in the world, but only a handful of outlets in the US, mostly around DC.

I know this because I just opened a sample bottle of Nandos's Peri Peri Sauce, the "Extra Extra Hot" variety.

Yowwwwww! African Bird's Eye Chili is even hotter that Scotch Bonnets, but so very very flavorful. I can see why the chain is so popular (they serve Mozambique-style chicken, with peri-peri sauce). They're the McDonald's of the former British Empire's forgotten corners.

Which is more immoral?

Lying to yourself and a woman that you are interested in her, with no intention of any interaction once nature's urges have been satisfied?

Or paying a professional for use of her physical services openly and honestly?

Posted by: The Questioning Hat at November 05, 2015 02:51 AM (vBeA5)

355 Per the Mens Rights Movement (MRM), they actually actively discourage men today from getting married and recommend prostitutes over relationships with women.

The big arguments are that a competent prostitute will (a) never have your kids which she can then use against you emotionally and financially, (b) fulfill your sexual needs without demanding her emotional voids be filled in return, and (c) never marry you which is also considered a legal minefield for men today, among other reasons.

360 Hat and others, those are the $64,000 questions for guys like me who would like eventually to have a real *relationship* with a woman.

The MSM basically tells men that women have been so conditioned by Feminism to believe their needs are so superior and paramount to anyone and everyone else's, that in effect it's *not worth it* to really know any woman anymore, and that if you can find a woman who really wants to *know and fulfill YOU as a man,* you've effectively found the equivalent of a winning Powerball ticket.

399 In case anyone cares, Barnes+Noble has signed themselves up to do 650 "micro-mini-Maker-Faires" over next weekend. As someone who has been to the actual full-sized Maker Faires since they started, I have my doubts......but, still, wish them well. I went in and talked to the store manager -- there are a number of scheduled events at the local store regarding 3D printing -- I asked, "you do realize that 3D printing typically takes 12-24 hours, right?" He said that he was awaiting guidance from corporate. This was about 36 hours ago.

400 Good morning fine folks. Just a couple more days and I'll be done with living in a flooded out tent. All of the comments about duck, beef, other fat fried food has me drooling with thoughts of all the good food I'm gonna eat to make up for the last few weeks of shitty living and eating. But, like some many best laid plans, I´'ll probably get home, pickup a few grams of different jamones and other cold cuts and cheese, fresh bread and sandwiches for a few days while lounging around and watching tv. Doesn´t hurt to daydream though, amirite?

405 My favorite Andorra story -- the legislature meets in a room on the second floor of a building....whose first floor is a barn. In summer.

After a couple of hours of debate, things start to smell downright agricultural.....

406 a highlight of this shindig was standing there with my international peers as US Apaches, Chinooks,Blackhawks, Ospreys flew over constantlytaking care of business capped off yesterday with 7 C17s unloading a bunch of sooper-dooper paratroopers from the 82nd. No words were needed as all watched with admiration.

408 Literally the week before the VW story broke there was a formula one race, and the commentators were talking that VW wanted to buy or align with a already established team. That was the last and only time I heard any talk of that.

Logprof,

We visited Barcelona and Sangria Familia in 2003. Barcelona was great, and Gaudi's architecture around town was incredible.

I went to the store yesterday to stock up for the new month. It is frightening what is going on!

Everything is smaller and more expensive.

Why is my love life public knowledge?!1

421 Speaking of blocking sites, a favorite SJW tactic is to report non-SJW sites to antivirus and firewall software companies as "malware sources". If they get a few complaints, they add the non SJW sites to their block lists, so anyone using their software is screened out of non-SJW sites. Furthermore, a lot of companies use them as a basis for their own network blocks. We saw a lot of this with the Sad Puppies campaign, and it's a PITA to get your site removed from them.

I'd investigate #8 but it would be too far out of my price range for the class of prostitute I'd feel safe cavorting with, not to mention the skill level to compensate for mine while not make it painfully obvious.

Perhaps if I win the lottery. Hookers and blow, FTW!

A plainly unloaded gun scares me a lot less than a table saw with no power. You can still trip and do yourself some serious harm with the latter.

426 [I'm actually okay with the last item since insanely priced prison phone services do take advantage of literally captive customers]

Why am I not surprised The Horde is aware of this.

427 You could use the DoE like a hammer. The requirement to involve real law enforcement, no kangeroo courts, easy. Treat them like Federal contractors and other entities with regards to accepting Federal money and unions, the sweet tears that will cause. Needs test student loan moneys - not on the kids' situation but on the needs of the country -- money for STEM, none for SJWs. No active ROTC -- no federal money. No respect for the 2nd Amendment - Gun Free Zone = Federal cash free zone.

Bring the pain. Then shutter it.
