9 We are so going to get stuck in the courts over this in Mississippi on 42 and 42A.

First by 52% to 48%, the sate voters voted against an amendment to the constitution on education funding.

But not content, they also added another vote to the ballot were you could vote for 42 or 42A Prop 42, amends the constitution by granting the state chancery courts the ability to determine whether the legislature is indeed 'adequately' funding education. Prop 42A is the same as 42 except the courts are granted no power.

So in this second ballot vote, Prop 42 seems to have passed 58% to 42%.

46 Regarding election results. Michigan voters recently denied a referendum to raise taxes and auto registration fees (and sundry other complicated schemes included in the related bills) by 80 / 20. 71 Howard Carter told the BBC all about it, in the early 30's. I bought an LP of the interview from a library clearance sale about 30 years ago. Now they're doing historical re-enactments on pay channels of what he may have thought or said; all you have to do is drop the needle, and you can hear his own words in his own voice, pops and hollows of short-wave included. Makes the gap from now to Carter seem as great as the gap from him back to Tut. He opened that tomb the year my father was born.

78 Hey I will have you know, Kilmeade is now a published authority on Jefferson and the Barbary pirates.

When we had to have the old house taken down, I hired a competent local manic demolition contractor, who has a lot of hard-working gat-toothed ineducables on his crew. We'd pulled the "antiques," but had admitted the big pre-superhet radio in the attic was not repairable. As they pulled it out, my dad told the kids how, as a toddler, he'd lay under the legs of it to bask in the warmth of the tubes.

Ineducable says to my dad, "Bet you heard the first moon shot on this one, hey old timer?" I look at Dad, Dad looks at me. My eyes, I admit it, rolled back quite a waize. Dad says, "Would you believe the first flight across the Atlantic?" Kid's gat-tooth mouth falls open. It was like he'd just picked the flowers in Tut's tomb.

Beck is too successful for most stations. They don't get paid as much and can't charge anymore for commercials.

Just because Beck is mostly correct about world events doesn't make him any less of a huckster. Gold line, safes, shaving enhancer, sponsor this hour, read my new book, see my new show. Tonight I'm going to tell you about and so forth. 10 minutes of content spread out over hours.

.No. It mostly boiled down to how the Teachers Retirement fund shortfall was going to be addressed and IMO Bevin won on that. Conway wanted to raise taxes and maintain the status quo for Teachers and Bevin wants to move all new Teacher hires to Social Security and a matching 401K retirement. He would also move all State workers into 401k plans for retirement.

I don't think it will happen as Democrats control the House, but it is a start.

I agree with Bevin, it needs to be changed and State employees and Teachers need to be put in the same retirement pool as everyone else.

95 Anna - JAL was 7years after the repair - which is the missing info from the CNN story

Posted by: Jean at November 04, 2015 07:51 AM (ztOda)

96 Jean, with aircraft it is about flight cycles. How many times was that plane pressurized and depressurized. The 747 in the JAL crash was used like 757s or 717s are used in the US so it had accumulated many flight hours in those seven years.

Posted by: Anna Puma at November 04, 2015 07:55 AM (L/cgw)

97 I would hope the maintenance/inspection teams worldwide are pulling aircraft that have had major structural work for a detailed inspection for fatigue and cracks. Personally, I like to see a policy de-rating such craft for passenger service.

Posted by: Jean at November 04, 2015 07:55 AM (ztOda)

98 It was in regular service, the economics dictate it stay in the air. So, while it may have been less than the JAL bird, the pitch count caught up with them. I bet the aircrew didn't even know about the repair.

3) Gizmodo is a huge libtard hangout.

107 I worked the big Ohio election yesterday. We had a major school levy, city council, Teh Zoo tax. There was a lot of covered-mouth speculation about just what issue was drawing so many voters out, and which ones were the stoners vs which ones the teachers. I noticed in a previous vote, if you get a big rush of business right after 4:20, that's telling you something, dude.

For every full-sleeve-of tats, honestly I actually smelled Patchouli voter -- and there were a great plenty -- there were two or three females in scrubs, tight-lipped in barely contained rage. "All my relatives are for this thing," one of them couldn't help but say. "I am here to cancel them out." You can't comment.

And we a had a Chaldean. Guy had just barely escaped Saddam, said he'd never been allowed to vote in his life until he got here, has put two kids through college, and asked for a paper ballot and "bi-partisan assistance" to make sure he understood the wording of the issue(s) right so he didn't accidentally vote the wrong way. And he shook hands all around, thanking us all for the help, and for ]letting him vote (he is a citizen, and registered; there was no doubt).

I said to my presiding judge, Blue Finger Voter. And she goes huh? So I held up my index finger, and voiced the TV ad that the Kurds bought that one time, Tenk You Ameddica. Oh yeah, she says. That. I put my thumb and (blue) forefinger about a inch apart and said, "We were that close." Dusty moment, there, at the polls.

108 Democrat GOTV people came to the front door twice yesterday trying to get my (registered Democrat) spousal unit to go vote for more evil progressives (hah to them- she's an angry Ted Cruz supporter), as redistricting had endangered a safe Democrat state house seat. I was astounded then (and am still) to see so much money and effort expended in an off-year election, and very impressed with their GOTV data gathering operation.

We are facing that operation on steroids in the upcoming general election. It's daunting.

Btw, the election for two seats (Mercer County, NJ) ended up essentially tied between four candidates. Recounts and court cases are in our immediate future, as Democrats try to find a way to ex post facto steal the election.

Common sense escapes even these folks sometimes in their efforts to be MOAR expert than the other experts.

110 [92]- If so why not at take off rotation. If it was up at cruise and trimmed the tail would of been about as loaded as just sitting idle on the ground. Unless it encountered a gust. Or if a crack started forward of the aft pressure bulkhead and propagated due to altitude pressure cycling.

But going steady at 30K doesn't seem like a point where this would happen. The flight profile does show a sudden short ascent followed by a rapid descent along with a massive deceleration. Catastrophic forward fuselage failure which would result in initial pitch then empennage failure and descent? No, the fuselage would of been found first. I'm leaning towards a gust encounter which initiated an undamped short period which failed the aft fuselage causing the tail to go down first. Being undamped would require a pretty severe failure of the elevator and/or tail.

MP4: Pray... strength to deal with a very stressful situation and discernment to find a way out....

Some prayers are easier than others. For things, not so good. For values, always and fervently. God bless our friend and storyteller MP4.

And in this especially you also have my sympathies, as endurance and wisdom to find answers for a difficult and complicated situation have been our need, too, for many years - without finding the answers (thus far), but that's why we ask for the strength.

Prayers for my neighbors, as long as we're on the subject. Their 63yo firstborn is not expected to last the week. Parkinson's & complications, same as my cousin died from lately. These are the greatest neighbors in the world. They will need the strength and peace to deal with this.

131 The term you are looking for Jean is micro-fractures. Metal fatigue that starts very very small, but as the plane goes through flight cycles the cracks get bigger with every flex. Until they join to create a big enough crack to induce failure.

DeHavilland Comets and their square windows, the corners turned out to be excellent places for such micro-fractures to start.

The Hawaiian 737 that had part of its upper fuselage rip away. All the flight cycles started to fatigue the metal until failure. Passengers boarding the plane on that last flight noticed a crack.

173 Why, for the love of god, do republicans let the democrats ignore Article 2, Clause 4 of the Constitution?

"The Congress may determine the time of [choosing] the electors, and the day on which they shall give their votes; which day shall be the same across the United States."

Elections need to be held on one day, with all voting occurring on that day, in person, unless there are compelling physical reasons for a written or proxy vote. No other method makes sense or is constitutional.

175 In the interests of accuracy, the Michigan vehicle registration fee went up 20%, not 40%. Woopee
The GOP house vote was 55-52; senate was 20-18. Gov can't wait to sign. Our Betters. 7.3 cent rise in regular gas tax was added to 19 cents - diesel at +11 cents. (With automatic inflation increases). And oh yes, increasing the income tax credit. And oh yes, public transit gets a chunk.

Ha, I didn't hit her. I think she recognized her irrationality, though.

Should have hit her with the tire iron.
Stupidity like that should be painful.

179 Every time I hear some Republican candidate, Jeb in particular but there are others, talk about "fixing" Washington and/or the political process I cringe. Like our immigration systems, the problem is not that it is broken . It is that it is being vandalized by and out-of control Dem party bent on perpetual, permanent political power. An even greater problem is a media that enables this and huge swath of LIV's that don't care and gladly swallow the lies they are fed. Any Republican that is running on fixing the system is either naive, too scared of the MSM to speak the truth or is a willing accomplice of the vandals.

180 Got to hear a dumb VA GOP delegate on the radio this morning talking about the GOPe's failures in NoVA.

He said all the districts are gerrymandered so running there is very difficult.

I kept wanting the radio host to ask how they are gerrymandered out of the GOP's reach if the GOP has had control of the state legislature for the past umpteen years. Makes no sense to me.

I haven't tolerated a Polish joke since Lech and the Pope started the destruction of the Soviet Union.

Little Moron jokes have taken on new meaning, though.

I understand it is a matter of fall out and blast effect. A ground-burst muffles part of the blast in digging a giant pot-hole, and there is some interference in the propagation due to reflected blast interfering with the shock wave.

but, I am in no ways a specialist in this matter.

205 MTF and Anna Puma, the USAF was flying Rivet Amber (a KC-135 variant) from Alaska to the States to repair a tail crack when she was lost over the Pacific. They never found her or her crew, and the best theory is that she disintegrated. The story still terrifies me, given what my husband does.
