Never take your debit card out of your wallet unless you're taking cash from an ATM.
Even better, get an ATM only card if your bank offers it. If not that, set your POS limit to $0 (again, if your bank lets you). Those debit cards are awful for the consumer. Even if you don't trust yourself with credit, a really low limit credit card is still much better than debit. You'll get you money back eventually if you're the victim of fraud if the debit card was run as credit (without a PIN), but they'll drag their feet and be a-holes about it. Finding the solution means addressing the root causes ....massive and repeated failure of western foreign policies. http://preview.tinyurl.com/om48r22 Which is why brave leaders like Merkel have opened their arms to the poor downtrodden masses yearning for a better life. "To deny them asylum would violate the most basic standards of compassion." "Strangers in a strange land" just looking for love in a time of turmoil and trouble. On the other hand "Such an honest reflection could, by itself, help our societies think more clearly about the least bad options." to doing your Christian duty to help the poor and unfortunate among us. *Cue Promentory; theme from The last of the Mohicans (1992) while showing marching hordes of refugees striding across the country side. * Posted by: Hayfield Volkovski at November 03, 2015 09:58 AM (fyKZT) 105

I don't know that you've showed up to post happy things, but I saw a neat thing on facebook that is a list of 'bible emergency numbers', ie verses to consult when you are having a variety of emotions (when in sorrow, when men fail you, etc). We had school district elections, I couldn't find any last minute info so left them blank. Then a statewide issue on refunding *excess* pot tax revenues. The leg weasel worded it as not refunding to the growers, shops and fine print other taxpayers so I almost voted yes but it had come up at morondezvous and I did catch that other taxpayers so NO you don't get more money to shovel to the teachers unions.
Also NO on a local fire district to raise 3.75 million per year ongoing with property tax increase. They didn't say why they needed it and for a small rural fire district I could not see why they should need it. Posted by: PaleRider at November 03, 2015 10:00 AM (iA/+T) 110

I... I think I've caught up.
Now like the dog chasing the car and catches one, I don't know what to do. Guess I'll talk about... * While at my Mom's over the weekend, she got Time and National Geographic in the mail. Time cover story was how everything delicious is bad for you. Mom & my & Milady had some good laughs about that over our breakfast bacon. (Mom's is the best!) National Geographic was global warming all the way, including shrinking sea ice. I had to rant about the increased sea ice and the whole global warmening lie. Thanking the Moron Horde for keeping me well-informed. Baby Sister got her the NatGeog subscription, she said, because Smithsonian wasn't good enough or something. Not Regressive enough, would be my thought. On the bright side, Mom says that after being a subscriber for at least sixty years, she's going to drop Time - too little content for too much money. Told her about Newsweak going web-only and selling for $1. Did I mention Mom's five years from being a centenarian? Still sharp and interested in everything. God, I hope I got that gene. _________________ Obama just signed an executive order that prevents federal agencies from asking a job applicant if they have a criminal record. So that guy working next to you could be a rapist, and the only way you know is when he tries to attack you in the parking garage. Or the guy who's now in charge of the budget for your office also did 10 years for embezzling millions from his last job, but shhhhhhh . . . it would be too impolite to inquire about that before hiring him. You know what psychologists say is the single best predictor of someone's future behavior? Their past behavior. But let's not ask any questions about somebody's past behavior when they're applying for a job. Extraordinary conquerers
Read Romans: 8-37-39 (If I post it here it will take up too much bandwidth): Consider what people dread most in life. The list could include things like war, betrayal, famine abandonment, poverty, pain and death. In his letter to the Romans, the apostle Paul presented a similar list. However, what Paul addressed as the most serious of all concerns is that facing tumultuous times could build a wall between God and those who believed in him. Turmoil could cut people off from God's love. Jesus' followers in Rome were facing difficult times firsthand. Paul offered them comfort, encouragement, and hope by following his list of worst-case scenarios with the best news hey could deliver. No hardship in life could prevent God's love from reaching them and leading them to victory. When Paul wrote, "I am persuaded," he meant, "I am absolutely convinced.' You can stake your faith and your life on this. The assurance of victory God promises through the words of Paul doesn't mean you'll get every job we apply for, always end your financial year in the black, never contact a fatal disease or avoid a marital breakup. God's promise of victory is specific to the role he's given you to fill in this life. As a believer, when faced with hard times, it won't be your intelligence, talents, or your perseverance that will eventually ensure your victory. It will be God's love, working through you to keep you close to Gods side and to help you rise above whatever has you down. (Facing hard times can leads us to become more than victorious when we depend more on God and God's strength than our own.) from 100 Favorite Bible verses. I often do that with Bible passages-imaging oneself in the scene but i don't see why a person couldn't take a fair amount of time just to "be" in the picture. Posted by: Lizzy at November 03, 2015 10:27 AM I used to think Choom Boy was blackmailing people right and left to get his way. Now, not so much. Germans regulate everything and insist on training. You no shit need a license to golf and to sail a sailboat. So the hunters are well trained, but the executive course I'm reading about costs 6,000 euro. Cruz can't "walk back" his pathetic record in the Senate as a GOPe shill. When he bothers to show up. Just two votes (or non-votes) do it for me: Cruz was away pimping for money when the TPP vote came up, and he voted for the treasonous Corker "compromise" that gave us Choom Boy's Nukes-For-Iran program. His yammering about ramping up H1Bs and his whining about Bitch McConnell ("he snookered me!!11!!") are just frosting on the turd for me. Go look at his website. It's mainly an exhortation to buy Cruz gear or donate money outright. Very light on substance. Posted by: MrScribbler at November 03, 2015 11:07 AM (qiCMH) 238

The RNC rigged this whole primary process to keep out Cruz and lock it in for Bush anticipating Cruz would be their biggest threat. Then Trump shows up and blows the whole thing up and foils their elaborate brilliant plans. And now scrambling to keep themselves relevant and in the game.

I outlines the pluses but I don't think having Carson as a Veep is pandering. He won't ask him just for the votes, I think he sees the balance that would be created. They are similar but different. That's what you want in a working partner, someone to balance you're weaknesses. Carson would be a great front man and could head up all sorts of panels deciding how to get out of the mess we've been put in. They've already shown a propensity for cooperation and mutual respect. His having Carson as Veep would cause the country to actually believe we can heal our differences and they would be voted in with the largest majority ever. but that's just me wish casting. 301. Toured the Ann Frank house on Sunday as well as the memorial to the Jews that were rounded up in the city and sent to camps and/or murdered. Very sobering.
Happy to say that our trip through Germany was uneventful. Largest city we visited was Cologne. No signs of refugees. Only time we saw armed soldiers or police was in Strausburg France. Police at the synagogue and army at the cathedral. Did have our plane quarantined for a time when we arrived in Basel. We had to leave the plane using the steps to the tarmac, we were bused into a separate entrance to enter the airport. Never found out what that was all about. Something suspicious on the plane we heard. Posted by: never enough caffeine at November 03, 2015 11:31 AM (/oO1+) 317

I always thought the Mule was based on Hitler. Posted by: Jean at November 03, 2015 11:44 AM (ztOda)" There is no denying that Hitler had a profound effect on how people who lived through his era (such as Isaac Asimov) looked at the world. To return to the subject of alternate history Hitler, Norman Spinrad wrote a very weird book titled "The Iron Dream". The most interesting part was the preface where it claimed that the book was written by Adolf Hitler. According to the preface, after his discharge from the army at the end of WW I, Hitler dabbled in radical politics for a brief period before emigrating to America. In New York he found the success as an artist that had eluded him in Europe by doing covers for pulp science fiction magazines during the Golden Age. After he had been in the US for decades, he felt confident enough in his English language skills to write the book. As I said, the body of the book was quite weird. There are many Russians for whom "uncultured" is a mortal insult. Many of those Russians are of temperment and skills to inflict a repercussion which is, in fact, literally mortal. Posted by: Brother Cavil, down with Eph 6:12-13 at November 03, 2015 12:07 PM (9krrF) 409

Maybe this will wake up a few dunderheads in Congress and the country. When they see the results of this over the wintertime. You watch, Europe will be begging the US (I.E. Obama) to take some of these invaders. We must stand strong and refuse to allow it. And don't let them disperse them like they did the Hispanic invaders. They did that so that the people had no focus. And now they've infiltrated all of our cities and towns and you don't know who or where they are. Parents are the ones who are tasked with disciplining and maturing them. That is why the kids only rebel against the parents, not against what they are being fed by the culture and schools. I'll betray my age (watch out, Vic, I'm gaining on you), but back when I was a wee Moron, rebellion against everything was the norm. What happens is a company offers a benefit. Then as time goes by the company and others who followed suit lobby the gov't to make those benefits mandatory so that their competitors have the same monetary handicap.
That's how it's been done in the past. Business has been more destructive about citizens civil rights than the gov't ever has. Businesses have surrendered our rights to gov't without a fight. Much of the problems with the laws are due to businesses lobbying for special favors and rent seeking at the expense of the taxpayer. Corporate welfare is a bigger problem than welfare programs.
