Rocket Propelled Gun Thread - [Weirddave]

Gun of the Week

MArk1.jpg

Stalker, Stalker, Burning Bright

Guns are not the problem: My story

Whostaa goona do when they come for you Everytown? Peering in your windows as you shower, fondeling themselves, strung out on meth and God knows what else? Whostaa gonna do when your husband isn't home? Whostaa gonna do if you don't have armed, trained men paid to protect you 24/7 while you work to deny law abiding Americans their rights? Huh? What would you do?

For this lady, the answer was to rack a round in her newly purchased pump shotgun (love that sound). The prev ran away, and though he continued to haunt the neighborhood, he never returned to her house. I wonder why...

Free Guns!

Well, not free. But if you buy a lifetime membership in the Coastal Conservation Association of Texas, they'll give you a free CCA branded AR-15.

Probably only viable for residents of Texas. I thought about it, as I understand it the CCA is a great organization, but they'll only ship to a Texas FFL, and Maryland has a pointless "heavy barrel" requirement for AR-15 that this one probably doesn't meet, so I couldn't even get it transferred twice...not worth the hassle. Might be a good deal for Texas Morons however.

Fast. Gunfights Happen So, So Fast

From our friends at The Law of Self Defense

A Brazilian policeman enters in a white shirt, moving right to left, at about 25 seconds into the video. He recognizes a robber running by, tries to draw his pistol, but the thief gets off the first shot. Sadly, the thief's shot is quick and true, and the officer goes down. It is reported that he did not survive his injuries.

Godspeed officer.

All Lives Matter

Speaking of the police, here is a tale that it seems we've heard told all too often these days. A peaceful black man, stopped by evil, fascist cops. The black man is armed, and so we see what inevitably follows these kind of encounters:

Mutual Respect

"Lead officer points out my registration card is out of date but he knows my registration is up to date," Mr. Hildreth wrote. "Officers return with my Glock in an evidence back, locked and cleared. 'Because you were cool with us and didn't give us grief, I'm just going to leave it at a verbal warning. Get that headlight fixed as soon as possible.' I smile. 'Thank you, sir.'"

"I'm a black man wearing a hoodie and strapped. According to certain social movements, I shouldn't be alive right now because the police are allegedly out to kill minorities," Mr. Hildreth argued. "Maybe...just maybe...that notion is bunk. Maybe if you treat police officers with respect, they will do the same to you."

I got called a bad name on Twitter this week because I opined that if it had been my daughter caught on video mouthing off to a cop in class and then punching him in the head, being dragged out of class would seem like paradise compared to what I would have done to her. I did not mean that I would beat her (which seemed to be the level that the insulter was operation on), but that discipline would have been immediate, severe and extensive. Society is a contract allowing 330 million people to interact. Contracts, unless enforced by a superior outside force, require mutual respect to work. My kids know that. The mouthy girl in South Carolina seems not to.

Christmas in Austria

Just in case you were wondering what to get any Austrian friends for Christmas, this year the hot gift seems to be a shotgun.

Shotguns have 'virtually sold out' in Austria as citizens rush to buy arms

Huh. Seems you can't keep shotguns in stock in Austria anymore, and women are leading the charge. Odd, that, that a long established country and culture should suddenly change their established buying habits so suddenly. It doesn't make sense unless there's been some kind of sudden, outside change to their idyllic little country, but a disruption of that scale would have made the news you would think. All I can find in news reports is how Europe is being blessed with millions of hard working (sorry Melissa Harris-Perry) new immigrants, eager to forge for themselves a new life as free Europeans. I dunno, it's a real mystery.

Oh, and I love this part of the first article linked:

There are now thought to be estimated 900,000 firearms in Austrian homes
Police say around 70,000 guns have been sold this year alone in Austria

Or as we here in America call it, "Tuesday".

President Obama was asked for comment on this developing story and he replied "Austria? Didn't they have a forced buyback of all their guns? How is this possible?"*

Gun of the Week Answer

That is a Gyrojet Mark1, an pistol that shoots rockets. It's pretty weird.

the hammer goes backwards, striking the head of the bullet, which then pushes the round back onto a fixed firing pin, which initiates a cap which then ignites the rocket. The rocket sits there for a bit as it develops sufficient thrust to overcome the hammer spring tension, then moves forward, pushing down the hammer and re-cocking the pistol, and then enters the barrel and heads on downrange. You notice in the picture that the barrel starts *after* the space for the hammer - and the ports in the side of the weapon are open - that is so that the exhaust gases have a place to go.

Link goes to an article by a guy who picked one up for $25 at a yard sale.

Here's a story from a guy who carried a Gyrojet in combat in Vietnam and generally liked it, and here is a link to a group that's trying to perfect the technology.

Gunhinged

I should just call this section "What did Sally Kohn say this week?"

Bob Owens fisks her lies to pieces.

I had a different take on it:

You're Not Crazy

Kurt Schlichter Liberals Are 'Gunlighting' When They Say They Don't Want Your Guns.

I like Kurt. He helped me get published at Townhall. Here he's spot on, as usual.

I dimly remember Tarentino. Made a few good films in the 1990s. I quit watching his movies when I noticed a self-loathing anti-white theme creeping into his work.

18 There was, past tense, a famous gun store in Scum Scamfrisco, the SF Gun Exchange. It has since been driven out of business by the local liberal loons.

That was reportedly where Clint Eastwood, while visiting on pre-production and location scouting for _Dirty Harry_, bought the famous .44 Magnum carried by Harry Callahan in the movie.

They had ammunition for some of the weirdest and wildest guns in the world, including stuff like oddball African big game double rifle calibers not typically used in the USA.

And they had Gyrojet ammo. It was INCREDIBLY expensive, something like $35/round, and that was decades ago. They did not have one of the actual pistols.

19 Trump released his VA reform plan.

I ran into a problem right away. Says he'll fire the executives responsible for corruption or incompetence.

Uh does Trump know how hard it is to fire these people and that even if he tries to they'll immediately run to federal court and will get those firing overturned?

BUT he does put forth an idea I've put forward before and that is hiring more veterans to care for actual veterans instead of people who have no links to the military.

20 Instead buying another gun, I think I will upgrade one I already have.

21 A personal story much like the peeping tom story.

I was in Daytona for the race and my wife calls and wants to know where my pistol is. She says a Black man is beating on the back door trying to get in and she has already called the cops. I told her where it was and told her to go upstairs and if he started up the stairs to shot his ass dead.

You can not call the local police from out of town, I tried. So I called her dad who lived about two miles away and he went over there.

Half and hour later the cops showed up.

The Black guy? A drug addict that a nearby church was "consulting". He showed up stoned so then sent him away. He tried to break into three homes before he was caught.

Fvcking do gooders.

I know that place. They are closing up rather than comply with the latest onerous nonsense. I think video recording all ammo purchases was the issue, but it doesn't matter what it is, if not that then another thing.
There was a better shop on 2nd street, but that one has been gone for years.

Read it carefully. When exactly did the police go from being "peace officers" to "ordering citizens to comply"?

The "Mutual Respect" link is great, but why should a citizen call a police officer "sir"? Are they our masters?

Posted by: rickl at October 31, 2015 05:02 PM (sdi6R)

27 I recently (early summer) put together a 9mm AR-15 conversion. Got a barrel and BCG from Rock River Arms and installed them on a leftover upper receiver from an AR-15 Sport I cannibalized for other builds. Picked up a magwell adapter that takes Uzi mags, then bought seven German army surplus mags and spent about 90 minutes with a Dremel making the bolt and mag release cuts. Can't wait to take it out, once several major life problems that have been thrown at me the last two months work themselves out.

Posted by: Taro Tsujimoto at October 31, 2015 05:03 PM (/pB9Z)

28 My story a little premature, but a police officer had to finish off a buck. It took at least three rounds but I do think it was four. I wanted to ask but not sure if he was going to tell me what he used to do this. I suspect with the amount of rounds spent it was a 9mm. Which if it was the case proves the usefulness of that.

34 The order went in this week to the CMP for a Service grade Garand. I got one about 25 years ago and love it. But with the current political situation and the limited number of Garands, I was tempted. However, it was Mrs. JTB who convinced me that it was folly to wait. (One of MANY reasons I love her.)

I'm getting a big bunch of the Greek M2 surplus ammo as well. It's supposed to be decently accurate and is reloadable. And, like the rifles, it won't be available forever. I'll save my cast bullet reloads for the bolt action rifles.

Seems like I need to get one every quarter century.

35 Uhhh, actually, High bridge arms is closed...

Ever since it was opened in the 1950s by a celebrated Olympic shooter, High Bridge Arms has been a defiant fixture in San Francisco's Mission District, but a coming wave of new firearms restrictions has prompted the last gun shop in the liberal City by the Bay to pack it in.

I think Trump would work "outside" of the rules. Instead of firing the incompetents, have them report to the "Jerk Pool" which would be a fenced enclosure on the White House lawn. They would have to stand around all day while they got paid and the public could come look at their "servants" who have misbehaved. You could even charge admission and make a spectacle out of them. Maybe have them wear a dunce cap and be forced to do calisthenics all the work day.

Link's not working for me. However, it is a good question. There is an undercurrent of this attitude among at least some cops. 68 Cops do have a difficult job but I have always felt a little unease at the way most cops have gone from being "peace" officers to paramilitary types replete with black uniforms, Kevlar helmets, and the attitude of "us" vs. "them". I think the drug war has caused a lot of this and the violence that goes along with it. Picture Barney Fife wearing a Kevlar vest and helmet and toting an M4 and it makes you see how far and fast this has happened.

69 I don't believe for a millisecond the "we just want sensible arms laws"
These bastards would take any weapons they could get their hands on. Of course which would NEVER be all of them.

70 . I think the drug war has caused a lot of this and the violence that goes along with it.

I agree with this. The mentality that goes with it is not being a peace officer, it's being on a war footing.

71 68. Look at how far and fast this has happened...

Yeah...uh, ok. Now look again at the video of the Brazillian policeman being gunned down. No helmet on, and it woulda likey saved him.

72 Maybe Weirddave could post a link to his Townhall piece? I'd like to read it (if it hasn't already been taken down lol).

I related a story a couple of months ago on the ONT about being stopped by a cop because of a headlight out, with basically the same results as this black guy had. I wanted to get out and verify which light was out, he asked me if was armed. I said "it's not on me, but it's in the car." He said "If you don't pull yours, I won't pull mine."

I said "Fair enough." I got a warning ticket as well. I also mentioned that I avoided a ticket because of white privilege and a polite manner, but mostly a polite manner.

PS it's totes legal to carry a gun in your car in MS, no permit necessary (I'm not a lawyer yada yada check the law yourself).

73 Vic, all my folks are in Branchville.
No traffic lights there, I think.

74 Those students in SC protesting for the cop to be rehired are being called Uncle Toms, coons etc. by a whole group of twitterers; basically they are claiming that the kids must be brainwashed. WZ has a piece on them.

75 I don't know what more modern military surplus rifles are like but I have long been a fan of the old bolt action stuff. Swedish Mauser, SMLE (from the mid-1930s in my case), 03 Springfield, if they are in decent mechanical shape they can be wonderfully accurate. I use mine with reduced cast bullet loads for targets out to 200 yards with the as-issued sights. The Garand can do that and more with the right load. A modern rifle built as well would probably cost way over a thousand bucks. And working up cast bullet loads is part of the fun of shooting them.

Oh, the first one was just a rewrite of a post that was taken down here. The second was on Trump. Haven't written any more in a while, been too lazy.

78 I want to put in a recommendation for Tom's 1/3 Mix for treating walnut and birch milsurp stocks. http://bit.ly/1Sf3J6D

One of the M39s I bought from Classic had a basically unissued stock. I read about Tom's Finn Mix and ordered that along with his 1/3 mix, beeswax, turpentine, and linseed oil. The pine tar did color the stock as desired but when I applied the 1/3 mix it was marvelous. I went back and applied it to my 03A3 and it really looks great on the walnut.

79 Grump928, Thanks. I'll make a note of that. The stocks on my mil-surps aren't horrible but the time may come when I want to spruce (no pun intended) up the Moisin. That's the one I care about least.

Thanks for the thread, WD.

Wish I had some guns to talk about!

81 REGISTRATION be damned. That's how they keep tabs on where you all are. Just taking your names for later persecution.

ObamaSHITcare already mandates that doctors demand to know whether you keep any "firearms" in your home. Because health hazard, is the excuse. What asswipes.

82 @81 Beverly....

Ah, Doctors asking about whether you have guns in the home.

I had a doctor ask me that in Texas of all places.

I replied "No" while wearing my NRA cap.

I bet that doctor wrote some nasty notes about me in the margin of that form.

83 Question for the morons and ettes:

I just traded a Russian capture P-38 (had several, got em for cheap back in the day) and a Yugo Tok (have several got em cheap back in the day) for a Rasheed rifle (Egyptian Army rifle in 7.62 x 39) that uses the gas impingement system developed by Sweden so it's similar to a Egyptian Hakim (8mm) or a Swede Ljungman (6.5 x 55mm).

They say only about 8000 Rasheeds were ever made.

What is everyones opinion on the swap?

84 Walking Dude, I think you did REAL good!
