48 From the Patriarchy Files, comes this really interesting archeological find of a warrior's grave from the bronze age. He was buried with lots of gold and loads of weapons. Apparently the fighting was done close in because the swords are short nasty little pieces of work.

The jewelry is intricate gold designs (that I wonder if our civilization could recreate) and beautiful Minoan designs of men vaulting over bulls horns. I guess that's what they did on weekends.

Surprisingly, there is no mention of lesbians or mattress carrying. I guess that's our contribution to western civ and the Bronze Age guys just hadn't got there yet.

59 Here's my question for the day.

If all Republicans everywhere are held responsible for their weirder supporters' craziness, why do the GOP not force Hillary's camp to disavow the repugnant costume choices of Lena Dunham, who's dressing as a sexy, cool Planned Parenthood killer?

Rubio: "I don't know why the media have not required Hillary Clinton to answer whether she thinks Lena Dunham's sexy Planned Parenthood abortionist is appropriate."

Cruz: "Well, first of all, it's unlikely Lena Dunham will be able to manage a 'sexy' anything at all; but a sexy Planned Parenthood abortionist? Hillary Clinton, are you going to come dressed as Herman Gosnell this Halloween?"

Trump: "Lena Dunham is disgusting. She's a loser and an idiot who thinks it's sexy to dress as an abortionist from Planned Parenthood. Has she seen any of the videos? How disgusting is that? And Hillary, what the hell is the matter with you, sitting down with this idiot during an interview? And I could see Hillary passing as Herbert Gosness for Halloween. It's Halloween, isn't it? Or Thanksgiving? Whatever."

With
who, the LIV's? They are unreachable, nothing less that societal collapse will get their attention. The left? They love this BS and
think the media should be even more biased in their favor. That
leaves conservatives, who already distrust and hate the media. I don't see that this will change the public's perception of anything. What it might change is Republicans finally demanding a format that is not designed and controlled by the left MSM.

129 Megyn had Varney on last night, but when he corrected her attack on him,
(like claiming he would tax the rich like Obama, Varney pointed out
Trump talked of the hedge fund guys dodging taxes) ... she talked over
him. Varney says "what am I here for?"

But the flat tax guys
are also not very realistic (per Megyn and Varney), while Varney
supported Trump's top rate reduction as realistic. Rubio offers to
lower that rate slightly. Cruz talks flat tax which would be very hard to pull off.

I'm with Coulter ... stopping illegal
immigration, not giving citizenship to illegals, and reducing legal
immigration from the third world ... have to be a top priority.

If MSM and GOPe are going to fight any real change, I'm thinking only Trump has the momo and money to get the zombies out to win. He needs to clarify some things, and maybe agree to appoint Cruz to choose judges. But I'm giving Cruz time ... maybe he has more support than I see.

NPR was pushing Carson ... "let me try one more time, you are saying you would not raise the debt ceiling, so America would default on debt already owed?" Wrong NPR ... many other things happen before paying interest on our debt happens. We've had many shut downs and have never defaulted.

Carson wasn't clear enough, and probably doesn't get it either, but did state that he would first work with congress to force reduced spending. Of course the sequester actually did accomplish some of that, so just do bigger sequester and pain would be felt, but no default on current debt ... morons.

When American couples are seen with a Chinese baby in China, after being accosted by Chinese citizens, they have to undiaper the baby over and over again to prove that they are not sneaking off with a boy baby.

I agree it's logistically impossible. I only meant that it was theoretically possible.

Sometimes liberals have this tendency to take certain abstract concepts like "community", "culture", "history", "race", "institutions" or "narrative" and act as if they have an existence separate from people on an individual level. So that we need to "respect X culture" or make reparations to X race as if these concepts had any real power to override individual interactions that exist in the here and now.

I'm just wary lest we fall into that trap that has been repeated for so long. It's just another trick the left uses to bludgeon people into acting into ways that serve their (the left's) interests.

China Total fertility rate

According to the 2000 census, the TFR was 1.22 (0.86 for cities, 1.08 for towns and 1.43 for villages/outposts). Beijing had the lowest TFR at 0.67, while Guizhou had the highest at 2.19. The Xiangyang district of Jiamusi city (Heilongjiang) has a TFR of 0.41, which is the lowest TFR recorded anywhere in the world in recorded history.

There is also a serious gender imbalance. Census data obtained in 2000 revealed that 119 boys were born for every 100 girls, and among Chinas floating population the ratio was as high as 128:100. These situations led the government in July 2004 to ban selective abortions of female fetuses. It is estimated that this imbalance will rise until 2025-2030 to reach 20% then slowly decrease.

220 Megyn after the debate also jumped all over Trump for misrepresenting his H-1B standing, and she quoted from his web page about Zuckerburg wanting Rubio to triple H-1Bs for him.

Trump stumbled a little in not clarifying, but his position is NOT to stop the H-1B, but to require a "prevailing wage", because the H-1Bs are currently used to bring in foreigners to work for much lower wages, not because there are no Americans available.

We indeed DO want to keep the talented workers here, but NOT use them to displace Americans simply because H-1Bs are cheaper and (forcibly) more loyal to the company.

Over and over Megyn gets the details wrong, in her zeal (along with Stirewalt, Hume and a host of others) to dump on Trump. Yet they slap their forehead like "how can they be so stupid, and let Trump deceive?" While they sit there and deceive.

But I still want Cruz to pull a rabbit out of his hat.

Yes. I was thinking specifically of how "reparations" seems dependent on the fallacy of "if some guys with your skin color did bad things to other guys with a different skin color a few hundred years ago, then you have to give 'reparations' to people with that skin color today, and that will correct the injustice. Despite the fact that you may be a first generation immigrant here, and despite the fact that the actual people who were wronged are dead and that injustice, like most injustices throughout history, will have to stand. And the people who want 'reparations' are usually among the most undeserving of any special consideration of any who have walked the earth".

Something that occurred to me during last night's open thread regarding how terrible the moderators are and how stupid the GOP and Preibus is for arranging a debate with MSLSD.

This is exactly what any GOP candidate is going to have to deal with through an entire campaign. Then, if they manage to get elected, they will be carpet bombed by this stupidity daily by not only these fringe channels, but the mainstream and CNN will pile on.
I for one, want to see how a candidate deals with these jerks. I don't want another GW Bush, who didn't want to "sully" the office of the President with responding to these outrageous claims, and therefore, gave these people free rein to simply shape his presidency. While they were throwing dog crap all over the White House, GW and Karl Rove simply kept shutting the drapes.

Even Rove now admits that not responding was a mistake.

Off the stage Anderson has "a dozen projects that I want to get finished in the next 10 years," ranging from an album he started working on 22 years ago to another that began last year. There's also an opera -- about Bill and Hillary Clinton. "It's very bizarre, very surreal," Anderson promises. There are no plans to finish it in time for the presidential campaign, however. "I'll wait to see when she gets in," Anderson says. "I won't tell you anything about it, but it's very surreal, believe me."

266 Yeah, sorry, I meant 'terrible' as in really really biased and obnoxious.

And the candidates have to expect that by now.

Newt was the only one ready last time.

Now more are, and everyone is going on about it all.

Who benefits?

Not Trump.

And Jeb went out in left field and went after Rubio.

You can lead a candidate to water, but you can't make him throw the bucket at the right people.

SO what the hell is going on in Kentucky?! Jack Conway, a Democrat, is looking like he might narrowly beat the Republican there. Of course, it might well be that the avowed liberal Democrat is going to beat the less liberal Democrat, for all I know.

Anyway, the GOP guy is finally trying to tie Conway to Obama. Using Siri. I don't know....

297 This is where I would comment if I had anything to add. Instead, I'll just ramble aimlessly.

Older sister, visiting from Colorado recently, expressed concern about Mom home alone on trick-or-treat night. Mom's been handing out the treats to the beggars at her door for nearly half a century, since she moved to Tulsa, with never an incident. She hands out the best stuff, little bags filled with a variety of small candy bars. Who would trick after that?!?

I had to allow as how things have become worse, and it only takes one creepy jackass to cause a problem. Don't expect any trouble, really, but that's my excuse for Milady and I to be at Mom's to "help out" this year. Mwah ha haaaahh!

At least Mom won't have to keep jumping up every time the doorbell rings. She's still getting around on her own pins at 95, but leans on the walker a lot now.

But now I have to figure out a scary costume.

Even with all the degradation of nearby areas (e.g. all the ghettoization like S Peoria) her area is a mighty safe place. Lots of kids brought in by their folks from other areas, but they've always been nice, not creepy.

My favorite Halloween costume - Decades ago, first year we were in Chicago, third-floor walk-up, we had some teenage trick-or-treaters, the only ones we had. They were only dressed in street clothes, but had been hit with shaving-cream bombs or something.

"What are you supposed to be?" I asked.

They looked at each other, and one replied, "We're a mess!"

343 I don't understand. In the old days, presidential debates were put on by the League of Women Voters, a presumably conservative but otherwise neutral organization. We live in an age when any nine year old can arrange a multi-point international "broadcast" over Youtube. And yet the RNC goes to the liberal MFM to have these "debates" broadcast over TV and the candidates insulted and demeaned. It would be literally child's play for Hannity and Levin (for example) to conduct a candidates' forum that would be infinitely fairer and more informative than anything we've seen, broadcast live to Youtube and other streaming services, and probably available to more people. The candidates wouldn't even need to travel or be in the same place. And yet no one steps up and does this.
