Thank You For Your Service: Department of Justice Wraps Up "Investigation" of IRS, Will Not Press Charges Against Incandescantly Corrupt Lois Lerner

Not a republic any longer.

Number the times the press has called upon Obama to appoint a special prosecutor, outside his apparachik chain of command? Zero.

"Ineffective management is not a crime," Assistant Attorney General Peter J. Kadzik said in a letter to the House Ways and Means Committee. "The Department of Justice’s exhaustive probe revealed no evidence that would support a criminal prosecution. What occurred is disquieting and may necessitate corrective action-- but it does not warrant criminal prosecution."

...

Some Republicans have questioned the validity of the probe from the beginning, after learning that one of the Justice Department lawyers assigned to the investigation was a contributor to Mr. Obama’s political campaigns.

...

Investigators said none of the witnesses they interviewed believed Ms. Lerner acted out of political motives, and said that Ms. Lerner seemed to try to correct the inappropriate scrutiny once she "recognized that it was wrong."

"None of the witnesses" -- that is, her colleagues. I'm sure the people whose tax information was illegally forwarded, or who were put through years of abuse, would disagree. But they weren't, apparently, "witnesses" to the wonderful Ms. Lerner's style of operating.

These agencies have all become nothing but political and rogue.

Again assuming the WH goes republican, fire each and every head of the agency, and their subordinates. 20-30% across the board non-negotiable budget cuts - by executive fiat. The House/Senate can approve the funding - doesn't mean it has to be spent, right?!?!

Washington DC is in a dire need of a cleansing.

The only thing that will cause trouble is if a subsidy stops. Everything but the cash economy is subsidized. In any company only about 20% of the people are doing useful work. The others are compliance, affirmative action, legacy or nepotism. Worse in Government.

Obama broke the will of Congress by turning off EBT cards last time around. Everyone will know how bad things are when food stops getting distributed in Sanctuary Cities. Congress has been effectively been made into a rubber stamp.

115 31: " Good news for Lois, and the many atheists who will welcome this as new proof of their theory."

Not good news for this atheist.

Of all of Obama's many high crimes, I'd rank this one at the top. That's not really based on any sort of analysis, just a gut feeling. The IRS is already given too much power -- they can come in and ruin a man without even so much as a hearing, for the crime of trying to keep the fruits of his own labor. To weaponize this already inherently corrupt agency against his political opponents, and then to investigate it with his own Justice Department henchmen -- there are no words to express my disgust.

It's this sort of thing that makes the second amendment my biggest issue in evaluating candidates. The only thing standing between these assholes and the creation of a system of gulags is a well-armed populace. I know there are a lot of people here who consider immigration their hill to die on; but without 2A rights, that wall they build will end up keeping us in rather than keeping illegals out.

There is a lot you can do against Leviathan without even sticking your neck out. Some thoughts in no particular order:

1 Stop buying stuff
2 Do only what the government directly compels you to do.
3 Pay in cash with a winkwink
4 Cheat the government whenever possible
5 Steal all your entertainment
6 If you know of tax cheating, keep your mouth shut
7 If called to jury, refuse to convict
8 Discriminate in all your private dealings, without openly saying so
9 If you see a CoC sticker on a business, go elsewhere
10 Vote against all tax levies, particularly school levies
11 Buy firearms and ammo. It's not simply a just-in-case, it's a good financial investment of small sums when savings are yielding 1/4 of a percent.

History tells us it's a very big mistake to look past a bunch of angry people who feel overtly threatened by their government. When that happens, at a minimum, a very large group of those people who don't normally show up to vote, do.

245 I hate having to fear that these assholes can have power over us just for expressing my opinion. Well here is my opinion:

My hope is that Lerner will be tried as a traitor, lawfully, and that it be determined that she had fellow Americans persecuted for their political beliefs.

Because that amounts to trying to stage a coup, she is a traitor and deserves to be executed. I would never advocate for that under any circumstances except as the outcome of a legal trial. But I am so angry that some bureaucratic asshole was allowed to prevent people from expressing their political opinions by persecuting them using the coercive force of their agency which should be abolished.

She is a traitor. I want to see this traitor brought to justice. I do not advocate violence but I really want to see this traitor brought to justice. I feel such anger and despair at this moment. It is causing me to lose all hope in any kind of governmental process for a redress of grievances.

I wish the republicans would wake up - either she committed a crime and properly took the 5th, or she committed no crime, and she CANNOT take the 5th during congressional testimony. Since DOJ says no crime, thenshe is in contempt of congress. The criminal offense of contempt of Congress sets the penalty at not less than one month nor more than twelve months in jail and a fine of not less than $100 nor more than $1,000.

I'd be perfectly happy with Lerner cooling her heals in jail for a year.

Naturally, the requirement is for the Executive branch to charge her with contempt, which they won't do. And the press will never force Obamas hand.

So she will be guilty as sin, and free as a bird.

The only move left - congress needs to immediately void her pension. Not sure the president can stop that from happening.

This is an excellent example of how a GOP Congress has done nothing to even mildly resist the unprecedented unraveling of the republic.

IRS should have been crucified over this - yes with opportunistic demagoguery against the whole outfit, cuz duh public opinion - and budgets and structure changed. Or Obama forced to veto and defend it all.

There'll be no Pinochet, there'll be no armed insurrection, there'll be no widespread tax non-compliance in protest, there'll be no "burning". Yes the collapse of the normal mechanisms for push-back and reform (opposition party, division of powers) leaves no constructive outlet - BUT this country is a huge vessel that can contain much more pressure than this before anything interesting happens. The stability and prosperity produced by rule of law and responsible governance (overall) themselves createhuge "give" in the system, even as though foundations are dynamited.

254 In a real banana republic, the media is state-controlled, as opposed to party-controlled. This means that ALL executives can get away with being corrupt, not just the ones that are ideologically 'correct.'

Thus, in a BR, Hillary Clinton would be in no danger of going to jail for having in her possession hundreds of FBI files of her enemies. But neither would Charles Colson have gone to jail for having 3 or 4 of them.

The irony is that a BR is in this respect superior to what we have now because there is no double standard.

There is also less pretense.

Excellent point, Margarita.

I think the "banana republic" term is just a handy generic term for a crappy minor society ruled by whim and corruption as opposed to rule of law. I often use "Third World" as a similar catch-all expression of revulsion.

Telling that Americans' terms for political pathology mostly derive from foreign experiences. Much of our history we've had few domestic examples to draw from. And now? Well.

Posted by: rhomboid at October 23, 2015 05:10 PM (QDnY+)

257 So as we comment here our outrage over these recent events, ponder this:

If the republicans get in - what if they exhibit the same behavior? Sure the media DNC (but I repeat myself) will cry bloody murder. But will we?

Will we turn the tide and do the same to them? Shove the same treatment up their ass so far that the pineapple tickles their tonsels?

Or do we demand, DEMAND that this apparatus be disassembled?

259 82 On the off chance that the republicans win the WH, and somehow manage to maintain leadership in the House and Senate, these institutions must be purged. As in the DOJ, IRS, EPA, Dept. Energy (for all those crony loans), Dept. Education and any other 3 lettered agency that tickles the fancy.

My sense is "not kidding" is a sockl doing a little routine to get a reaction. because of course God wont protect everyone who asks for it, but then God is not a big gumballl machine in the sky in which we put in our prayer and get just the answer we want. nor does God promises that that. It says God hears our prayerst. I don't expect God to "solve everything" if that means God will make the US a lawful and moral country again unless we all repented individually and as a nation. I don't expect blasting away with lots of guns will necessarily solve everything either. God has promised a new heaven and a new earth and a life beyond this life for those that put their trust in him. I just endeavor to be faithful in my own limited way.

273 She deserves nothing better than a scratchy ass orange jumpsuit, hard ass white flip flops and a greasy curled ponytail no natural eyebrows girlfriend to comfort her while she tosses and turns on a mattress that has had 400 previous occupants, all which were better people than her. Bitch.

274 I remember seeing that little shit Jonathan Karl at ABC on one of those
news shows gushing at the majesty of all these new huge
courthouses...gleefully rejoicing in their creation.

Not once did that cunt mention anything about what would actually be going on inside them.

As Machiavelli explained in exquisite detail, tyranny is most efficient and unstoppable when the outer forms, names and so on remain the same, but the inner workings of a public institution become totally transformed. Thus those who see the change are confused since the thing still looks and is named as it was, even though it now fulfills and entirely different, indeed sometimes opposite purpose.

Examples: Supreme Court, Senate, President, War Department (now Defence so no more sic vis pacem parabellum), Marriage, Equality, Fairness, Race, Religion, Borders, Security...

275 When five mobsters meet in a suburb they say, "Oh those guys are bad people up to nefarious purposes" and that meeting alone creates a charge of conspiracy and racketeering.

When bureaucrats meet for nefarious purposes, apparently unless somebody writes or blurts "I r teh criminal muhahaha" then they can break laws concerning integrity in federal investigations for years. Even using aliases in emails to do it.

Where are the left of center groups denied 503c status? All the victims of this "error" are politically right of center. That's the historical fact.
