On a whim: Trader Joe's scotch.

Quality: Meh. On the rocks is probably your best bet it you don't mix it. Flavor wise I'd probably call it a poor man's Chivas.

Price: At 12 bucks per liter, you'll have plenty of budget for mixers.

You won't get away with murder drinking this, but you will likely get away with defiling your college's mascot costume.

3 Good Morning Morons. Today is Sunday, October 18, 2015. On this day in 1954 Texas Instruments announced the first Transistor radio. I remember those early radios. They were expensive as hell and they were advertised based on the number of transistors in them. My first radio was a Sears "Happy Time" that had no speaker, only an ear bud. It had three transistors and ate batteries like it was going out of style. Kids today would not be impressed.

4 Scankles says she will consider "mandatory gun buy-backs" otherwise known as confiscation. Somebody needs to tell this witch that even if by some miracle for her she gets elected she does not have that authority with out a constitution change which would never be ratified. But she knows that so this is most likely nothing but election rhetoric as she tries to get to the left of commie Sanders.

5 A federal judge heard arguments Friday on whether to dismiss most of the charges against a suspected Libyan militant TERRORIST accused in the 2012 deadly attacks at the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, an incident that's become a political flashpoint in the U.S. presidential campaign and remains under investigation by a special House committee.

I see AP still does not like the word terrorist. And why did the judge even agree to hear this case? And why is this scum still above ground?

Even better, the Daily Mail rewrote *the shit* out of those memos. Almost all of their scare quote descriptions, including the headline, are *grossly* inaccurate. They turned "advisor is confident they will back us" into "secret blood deal to start an illegal war," and people providing assistance in a project they support as "spies."

Whatever is two steps further down the road to Hell than Yellow Journalism, this is it.

I wasn't paying much attention to the Daily Fail, now I will pay even less to their hysteria.

Meanwhile, Democrats really REALLY like killing babies:

A day after California Gov. Jerry Brown signed the first statewide regulation of crisis pregnancy centers into law Friday, two clinics in the Sacramento Valley filed a federal court suit in Sacramento saying the measure violated their freedom of speech and religion.

Crisis pregnancy centers offer free counseling and services to pregnant women, including pregnancy tests and ultrasound examinations, but try to steer them away from abortions.

AB775 is scheduled to take effect in January. It requires state-licensed reproductive health centers, including crisis pregnancy centers that have a doctor on staff, to notify clients of the full range of low-cost or free reproductive services available under state law, including abortion. The notices must list the phone number of the county social service center.

http://tinyurl.com/nz9nsco

Wonder if the Kiddie Killer Inc clinics have to offer similar information. Maybe legislation that got passed back in the good old days.

I spent two hours yesterday participating in a stream cleanup along Brandywine Creek in northern Delaware. The sponsors were Nature Conservancy, DE State Parks and US Park Service. The area cleaned was part of the First State National Monument (FSNM), recently created because the movers, the shakers and the big bellyachers here had the undies wadded up because Delaware had been the only state without a national park (and they could not bring themselves to see that that itself was something of which they could be proud). FSNM is a real cockup of a "park", and more people here dislike it rather than appreciate it, in my experience.

Anyway, the release form which participants had to sign before helping to clean up truly testified to the shambling, grasping and non-value adding enterprise that is big government. It was a gaping maw into which personal information, multiple attestings that you truly felt okay before you commenced this arduous task and, most importantly, a tallying of all the ethnic and special classes to which you might belong were required. Suffice it to say I left vast parts of my form blank and I seriously doubt that I'll take part in this travesty again.

On the plus side, I did find a 70s vintage pull tab from an aluminum beverage can...

75 By Joseph R. Sizoo, former President of New Brunswick Theological Seminary, the oldest seminary in the United States-Quoted in "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living" by Dale Carnegie

Years ago, in a day of uncertainty and disillusionment, when my whole life seemed to be overwhelmed by forces outside of my control, one morning quite casually I opened my New Testament and my eyes fell on this sentence, "He that hath sent me is with me-the father hath not left me alone." (John 8:29). My life has never been the same since that hour. Everything for me has been different after that. I suppose not a day has passed that I have not repeated it to myself. Many have come to me for counseling during those years, and I have always sent them away with this sustaining sentence.. Ever since that hour when my eyes fell upon it, I have lived by this sentence. I have walked with it and found in it my peace and strength. To me it is the very essence of religion. It lies at the rock bottom of everything that makes life worth living. It is the Golden Text of my life.

Moral of the story: Don't go to different bars at different times of the day. Don't be a pusillanimous, preening pajama boy: Pick a damn bar and stick with it. Long term bar stool rentals are cheaper that way, too.

Besides, changing bars as the sun goes down means you are losing/wasting quality drinking time in going from one bar to another.

I think the sponsored roadside clean ups here, for which you get your group's name on the sign, required quarterly cleanups.

Our neighbors' capacity for strewing their trash far and wide is truly boundless.

The worst cleanups for getting a sense of the futility of it all are along the banks of the Delaware River, where the myriad forms and sizes of styrofoam pieces overwhelm you.

For decades, metrologists have strived to retire Le Grand K, the platinum and iridium cylinder that for 126 years has defined the kilogram from a high security vault outside Paris. Now it looks as if they at last have the data needed to replace the cylinder with a definition based on mathematical constants.

The kilogram is the only SI unit still based on a physical object. Redefinition will not make the kilogram more precise, but it will make it more stable. A physical object can lose or gain atoms over time, or be destroyed, but constants remain the same.

The CIPM formally agreed to express the kilogram in terms of Plancks constant, which relates a particles energy to its frequency, and, through E-MC2, to its mass. This means first setting the Planck value using experiments based on the current reference kilogram, and then using that value to define the kilogram.

The GOPe starting to Kubler Ross:

GOP vet: Trump win looking more and more likely

Alex Castellanos, who played a key role in Mitt Romney's 2008 campaign, believes either Trump or Ben Carson will win the Iowa caucuses. If it's Trump, Castellanos sees him going on to win New Hampshire and then the nomination. Even if Carson wins Iowa, Castellanos sees a strong chance of Trump winning New Hampshire and then going on to take the nomination.

If Trump wins Iowa and/or New Hampshire, Castellanos sees a "desperate GOP establishment" trying to settle on an "anti-Trump" -- perhaps Marco Rubio -- to bring Trump down. But that would be a very difficult task. "History is not kind to candidates who play the long game," Castellanos writes. "No GOP nominee in modern history has failed to win either Iowa or NH. Period."

She reportedly refused, and chose to reveal the story now because she is terminally ill with an advanced form of lupus and wants to set the record straight.

123 Bourbon has a lot other than corn in it. Has to be over 50% corn, but wheat and barley are in just about every mash-bill. The new oak requirement is a big deal; there's a shortage of oak, and the bigs are putting up new barrel shops as fast as their foreign credit will allow.

Scotch sales are in a tailspin, because bourbon's sudden rage is all at Scotch's expense. There will be some good news for Scotch, and for certain barrel-aged fortified wines, since bourbon barrels can only be used once for bourbon, but then can move on to improve other things.

142 Question for cable cutters:

I cut the cable a month ago and got a Mohu Leaf (amplified version because all our local transmission towers are way out in the sticks.)

I live on the third floor of an apartment building on a busy street. All my windows face the street.

Here's my dilemma: every time a car passes by on the street, most of the channels I get will pixelate and the signal drops out for a few seconds. Obviously, since I live on a busy street, this makes TV all but unwatchable.

I've tried every possible antenna position. It is absolutely, positively the carspassing by that cause the problem. People keep telling me that's impossible. It's the problem. I am 100%positive.

The only available Mohu accessory is the amplifier, which I am already using (just for shits and giggles I did try it without the amp, which made no difference.) They don't make anything that I can add to the setup to fix this problem. Mohu's online help is no help.

I'm at the end of my rope and I really, really want to stay away from cable.

Any advice?

Now, it's the lighter less smokey stuff like Glenlivet and Glenfiddich.

Or the Japanese whiskeys - most of the good ones are very good.

But, overall I now prefer bourbon - it's a glass of awesome flavor. And the best whiskey for cocktails by far.

Irish whiskey I never quite got.

It seemed like whiskey with training wheels. Whiskey for people who don't like the flavor of whiskey. Not much there.

And I've tried the better stuff too like Tullamore Dew Phoenix and Powers John's Lane.

Last night, I tried to design a cocktail for the irish whiskey that I do have. A Manhattan variation. Not good, not awful. So, it's needs more work.

Jameson recently released, "Wild Sloe Berry Bitters" to go with their whiskey. So, that may be the bitters to go with. Damn hard to find though.

Seconded. Not only because he's an Obozo loving lefty tool but his movies and acting sucks. He may be the most over-rated actor ever.

157 I would check antenna connections again thoroughly. Make sure coax is properly embedded in connection. Triple check.

Also the web site someone listed above is a good resource to tell you distance from transmission towers and direction your antenna should point -- which is a starting point. I've found that 10 degrees to the right or left makes a big difference.

Trial and error, and having another person around to watch as you shift the antenna is the key. With these new digital signals, results are pretty binary -- either good or nothing.

158 I used a coax splitter to hook up two antennas. One antenna I position for most local stations and the other is positioned for another station in particular MeTV.

159 So, can someone explain to me why Trump is going after Jeb, and George W. on the whole 9/11 thing?

I mean, anyone with half a brain knows that 9/11 was a result of the Clinton presidency, and its laxness on foreign policy.

I just don't know what Trump is trying to accomplish here.

Had a senior EU diplomat, old friend, ask me today, "How does your impeachment work? My government believes Obama is quite mentally unwell."

-----

Let's just agree that it's surprisingly good for the price. For $10, I was expecting a liter of turpentine.
