Astronomers have spotted a strange set of objects whirling around a distant star. Scientists who search for extraterrestrial civilizations are scrambling to get a closer look. The star was emitting a light pattern that looked stranger than any of the others the Kepler Space Telescope was watching. The light pattern suggests there is matter circling the star, in tight formation. That would be expected if the star were young. When our solar system first formed, four and a half billion years ago, a messy disk of dust and debris surrounded the sun. But this unusual star isnt young. If it were young, it would be surrounded by dust that would give off extra infrared light. There doesnt seem to be an excess of infrared light around this star. It appears to be mature. Good Morning Morons. Today is Wednesday, October 14, 2015. On this day in 1656 Massachusetts enacted the first punitive legislation against the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). The marriage of church-and-state in Puritanism made them regard the Quakers as spiritually apostate and politically subversive. The Quakers eventually migrated to West VA, Rhode Island, and PA. In PA they set up their own government under Quaker principles.

The beginning of the end for the second amendment. A gun shop in WI has been ordered to pay $6M to two police officers who were shot with guns purchased at their shop. This case looks like the gun shop may have been lax in verifying their customers, although I don't see how that is possible unless they just ignored federal law. In any case stupid jurors ruled against them. This will only embolden similar suits with much less reason other than the desire to bankrupt gun shops.

Here are the winning words : "False equivalency" With those words you can dismiss any suggestion that 'this' is like 'that'. With a wave of your hand the argument that would seem to challenge your worldview is dismissed. Just like that. Snap your fingers and 'poof' you win, your challenger is dismissed and irrelevant. Another useful phrase, "I don't accept your premise." The left has an argument that dismisses any data, but without coffee, I am unable to recall it from memory. If the WI jury verdict holds up, BATFE had better stock up on pesos. The guns they sold, or forced to be sold, have killed a lotsa-buncha people in Mexico. They didn't transpose the songs down for Hepburn's voice range except for "Just you wait, Henry Higgins" which Hepburn sang. It was a shame all around because Hepburn had extensive vocal training for the role and wasn't allowed to have her own voice, and Julie Andrews could sing and act and wasn't cast.

Spend the entire season playing against all the others and then once you've got the league championship, do it all over again with rested teams ready to kick your ass. If we had a real press corps -- and wouldn't THAT be nice? -- it might be pointed out that at the very same time Bill Clinton was claiming to have "ended welfare as we know it", the long-term disability rolls were absolutely exploding. Crooked lawyers and bent doctors made a ton of money off of fraudulent disability applications; soft judges handed out long term disability certification like candy on Halloween. The only thing the 1990s Clinton "reforms" did was to shift a lot of people in the dependency population from one federal program to another federal program. Then welfare re-exploded under Obama, so now the aggregate of spending of welfare plus disability is at dizzying historic highs. Yet we somehow need MOAR SOCIALISM. A jet carrying 78 passengers and crew members had to abort a takeoff at Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday when a car made a wrong turn onto a runway, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The unusual incident occurred about 11:50 a.m., around the same time that air traffic controllers were dealing with requests for emergency landings from two other airliners. A Los Angeles World Airports employee driving an official airport vehicle had mistakenly turned onto the runway from a taxiway and was headed toward the twin-engine jet, officials said. After air traffic control canceled the takeoff, the pilot applied the brakes and pulled off the runway after traveling a few thousand feet. No injuries were reported. Nothing. Romney stuck it out and many of the same reasons he became the nominee are in play here. The crowd it being propped up by super pace's run by karl rove cronies so as to split the primary votes in various states. thus reducing the likelihood that Trump gains nomination. Then the splitters go home and leave their delegates (and how does that work anyway?) to Jeb and once again Jeb gets the nomination. This has all been planned out and rules changed and voting laws changed to support just such a scenario. They did it in 2012 and Romney knocked down much better candidates by their connivance. I think because the straw buyer initially put 'NO' in the box for "are you buying this firearm for someone else". But then changed it. So the Gun shop owner technically didn't violate the FFL laws but WAS negligent in allowing the sale to go through even though they changed the check box.
I assume the jury came to the conclusion that the gun shop owner should have rejected the sale right there or there was testimony to the effect that he knew the form was a lie. Don't know if the Gun Shop Owner can be charged with knowing someone's lying on the form. The person filling out the form can be if they lie. The "gelatin" in your eyes shrinks over time so that it becomes detached from your retina- it's a normal age-related thing (50-60s) and is sometimes accompanied by flashes and floaters. So, it's probably nothing big. OTOH "ocular detachment" can cause tears in your retina so it's a good idea to get it checked out. Eep. if you have a lot of floaters. A lot of disability claimants are ex or soon to be ex government workers.
They know how and where to go to game the system. They'll proudly brag about it if you ask. They know there's no investigations and little follow up to the forms filled out. The lawyers gather a stable of Doctors of various specialty so that they can adjust you're claim as needed. And with Obamacare, they can also make money off "treating" your disability. SS was never supposed to cover stuff like that but they changed in around the '50's or '60's and boom it's been outgrowing the regular SS ever since. No, There Isn't Going to Be a Global Coffee Shortage Prices, how do they work? http://preview.tinyurl.com/q6wffya My favorite quote is: Andrea Illy, the chairman and CEO of Illycafe SpA, a Trieste, Italy-based coffee roaster, told Bloomberg last week that global production will have to ramp up by 40 to 50 million bags in the next decade to keep up with consumption. Global warming also threatens crops, as do low prices that discourage farmers. 'Sooner or later, in months or years, we'll have to make a bold decision about what to do,' he said. 'We don't know where this coffee will come from.' It really is past time for conservatives to support confiscatory levels of taxation against the rich. What do the Morons think about that WI jury giving two cops $6M from a gun store?Posted by: Vic-we have no party at October 14, 2015 07:16 AM (t2KH5
It will be appealed. Gun store owner will win on appeal. Unless somehow he pulled the trigger. It's sorta like Mary Joe Kopecne parents suing Oldsmobile for her drowning death. --- It depends on the facts of the case, which, BTW, I have not studied in detail. If the jury found that the store owner was negligent in selling guns to someone who shouldn't have gotten them, then they might have a case - like, say, suing a tavern that served someone who clearly was intoxicated, who then killed someone in a DUI-related accident. But if they're suing simply because the guns came from a particular store that otherwise was scrupulous in its sales ... then, I agree, no case. Congrats to the Cubs!
I was hoping it would come back here (St. Louis) for a game 5 Thurs. Oh well..... Posted by: matthewjohn at October 14, 2015 10:10 AM (7pEow) 342
As a St Louis resident and Cardinals fan, this thread triggers me.

I was kind of hoping for a Dodgers-Cubs matchup so I could travel to LA for a game. Then I read of the latest beatdown by "fans" that put a Mets fan in ICU. He may not make it. A mother and son administered the beating. Just another day in LA...

If the Cubs get to the World Series - a sign that the apocalypse is upon us....
If the Cubs win the World Series - the fire caused by Mrs. O'Leary's cow is going to look like a weenie roast compared to what the hood rats are going to do to Chicago... Posted by: Pimp Daddy Welfare at October 14, 2015 11:01 AM (rVxdH) 345
One of my coworkers who is neither a Cubs nor a Cardinals fan has decided to jump on the Cubs' bandwagon so he can "be part of history." He asks me if I, a Cardinals fan, am going to root for the Cubs if they make it to the World Series.
I asked him in return "When have Cubs fans ever rooted for the Cardinals in the World Series?" Posted by: PaperworkNinja at October 14, 2015 11:14 AM (J991N) 346
Mama Winger long ago taught me the lesson.
There is only Cubbishness. I can hope, but I will have no confidence. Posted by: Dianna at October 14, 2015 11:56 AM (DV/Ik) 347
I told ya in 1945; the Cubs not gonna win no more! Ya can't break the curse of the goat!
