How's this for some mealy mouthed reporting:
Dozens of U.S. Secret Service employees improperly accessed a decade-old, unsuccessful job application of the chairman of the House oversight committee who was investigating scandals inside the agency, a new government report said Wednesday. The report by the Homeland Security Department's inspector general John Roth said that an assistant director suggested leaking embarrassing information to retaliate against Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, which may represent criminal violations under the U.S. Privacy Act May represent???? Look, I had a lot of training and counseling on the privacy act because my job sometimes involved handling privacy act information. There ain't no "may" to this shit. And the idea of trying to extort a member of congress by leaking this material is not only a violation of the privacy act, but it is a major felony too. An investigation by an independent agency should be performed to determine if anyone followed through on this in any form because if they did the least it would be is conspiracy. It is far past time for a lot of people in this corrupt administration to visit the gray-bar hotel. http://fxn.ws/1LlKglv Posted by: Vic-we have no party at October 01, 2015 06:56 AM (t2KH5) 19

Jindal's time hasn't come. Trump tried 4 years ago and quit because he detected it wasn't his time. Jindal is letting everyone take pot shots at him for no gain. I'm sure Jindal feels he is being attacked by fools. Jindal could look at how Fox News' O'reilly handles being attacked (similar to Trump). Being a politician is as rough as playing in the NFL. Jindal could kiss up to people who have followers he would attract. That way he might snag a VP or Cabinet post. Kissing up really works.

I used to collect a lot of gnostic and pre-Christian texts back when my Dad was in the Seminary. I always though Revelations was directed at the Roman Empire of the time but like all visions and prophecy you first have to believe in the concept which I do though YMMV, and then you also need to look at the actual result. For example there are lots of prophecies about the tribe that happened. You might even say that the spread of Christianity over much of the globe was "proof" of prophecy. It is more a matter of belief than something for discussion. Posted by: Hopped Up On Something at October 01, 2015 07:42 AM (NHtMs) 76

But what I would do is remind those people living in areas of the U.S. likely to be affected that they need to prepare themselves for the storm, and have supplies and a plan of action in place if the worst should happen. As we learned from Katrina, state and local governments (especially those controlled by Democrats) are often completely ineffective in times of crisis, and responsible adults need to be prepared to take care of themselves and their children instead of sitting around on their asses waiting for some government official to do everything for them. And BTW, if disaster should strike your area, one of the most vital things you'll need to have is a means of protecting yourself and your family from the criminals who inevitably come forward in such circumstances to try and take advantage of the weak and stupid. So in addition to food, water, and other emergency supplies, make sure you have a working gun and plenty of ammo!" Posted by: TrivialPursuer at October 01, 2015 07:53 AM (a31sM) 94

"I never understood why Republicans alwaus take 100% of the blame for government shutdowns."
Last shutdown, the Democrats were steadily losing the battle on optics. Really, telling elderly WWII veterans that they can't go on the grounds of their own monument? You can't buy anti-Democratic sentiments that strong. Then a grand total of one (1) poll came out from a liberal alphabet network which said that the public thought the shutdown was a disaster, and it was all the Republicans' fault, and that they were a bunch of big meanies, and that the public were going to punish the GOP horribly at the next election. The Vichy Republicans of the Beltway immediately panicked and folded and gave Obama everything he wanted. Except... the poll was bullshit. It massively oversampled Democrats and undersampled Republican base voters and indies. As later proven by the fact that voters DID NOT "punish" the Republicans at the next election. The party picked up seats, instead. Shutdowns are showdowns. And they are _winnable_ showdowns just so long as you have steady-nerved leadership intent on achieving concrete goals. Something that the congressional GOP lacked at the time and still lacks today. Posted by: torquewrench at October 01, 2015 08:09 AM (noWW6) 121
Gosh, oil and gas generate jobs in unrelated fields.Who knew?
But Stateside tight oil is grinding to a halt, and hence so are its suppliers. Posted by: torquewrench I read an article about the Dakotas oil patch. The area had spent millions building houses and apartments for the workers because they did not understand that roughnecks are transient. There are now thousands of empty houses and apartments and most of the workers have left. Hundreds of abandoned RVs and campers left behind. The locals are passing laws raising temp rents to twice their normal rate to try to force the people left to rent or buy. So if you are renting a trailer near the oil field for $400/month your rent will jump to $600 or $800/month. The locals think that the worker will then rent a new apartment for $650 or buy a house. No, they will go somewhere else where they need roughnecks. Stupid stupid stupid. Posted by: Hopped Up On Something at October 01, 2015 08:10 AM (NHtMs) 122

I've been thinking about this Jindal interview since I listened yesterday, and there is a subtle shift he reflected that I think is important. Jindal used the phrase "the surrender caucus" and Ace jumped in and said "I use the term failure theater". Jindal understood perfectly and proceeded to very openly acknowledge this and even explore the process- "They want six figure salaries now and seven figure lobbyist jobs later", while the HQ crew made it perfectly clear that we all see right through the phoney-opposition stance the GOPe constantly employs to try to cover for not actually trying to achieve anything the base actually cares about.
. The HQ and other sites have broken through on failure theater. Fiorina interview, now Jindal, and you know at least a few people in the GOPe are listening, somewhere. We know what they are doing, and I think THEY know that we know it. The "lets pretend to oppose" is a laughably obvious, threadbare ruse and nobody - NOBODY- is buying it. She forgot to leave. Later we got married, but this is the We Got Together anniversary. (Don't tell the kids we shacked up). I believe it completely. The reason I made that joke is because a few years ago I met a doctor who was head of his department at a major hospital (think $350K+/year). He also quit his job after ACA and started an EMR software company, bought the rights to some software, rewrote it for his hospital and all it's clinics and leased it along with a support contract. He is making literally millions now. Having studied e-med records from 1992, personally walking the halls of the congress and senate on this subject, speaking with everyone from industry and political staffs from clerks to Ira Magaziner, I can say unequivocally that, if done right, digitized records could revolutionize medical treatment and greatly reduce costs. It will take some time for the hardware and software to catch up, but anywhere there is money and a need the industry will catch up quick. In the end, doctors and nurses will spend more time with patients, less with paperwork. However, the big returns will be in research and access to an individual's records when needed. Saw someone with a Bernie sticker on their car. Is it ok to call them traitors seeing as how they wish to detroy America with socialism?

Word is that the first Officers trial in the matter of Freddy Gray will start just after Thanksgiving.
Gives plenty of time for the down town looters to get their Christmas shopping done early. On the plus side,Defense has told Judge that Prosecution is just now releasing evidentiary witness statements along the line of "Dude was tossing himself back and forth in the van like a crazy man". Little things like that might be worth knowing about when you're being charged with Murder. So my question to the Horde is can the system be fixed? Truthfully, I think it can't. Whenever we crossed the rubicon from a republic to a democracy, we sealed our fate.

"Jindal got elected in a blue state twice. For a pro school choice politician in a state with a large minority population that is no small feat. "
We're kinda a red state these days, especially after we got fucked over by Blanco during Katrina for the express purpose of helping the Democratic Party. I think the last time Louisiana went for a Democratic presidential candidate was in the 70's. People were (and still are) angry at the Dems down here even before Zero spent most of his term shitting on us. That Jindal won here doesn't mean much about him, whichever Republican got through the state's clusterflunch primary system was going to win the election. Since Cat 3 hurricanes - like Sandy - are now "Super Storms", what will Cat 4 and 5 storms be? As a public service, could I suggest Super Dooper for Cat 4 and Extra Super Dooper for Cat 5? Your welcome.Posted by: Semper In Stercus at October 01, 2015 09:02 AM
I think the Super Storm name came about because technically once a hurricane gets above a certain latitude it Is not a hurricane. Technically. I think a couple of meteorologists are trying to get this changed. Joe Bastardi probably explains this better then I ever could. Posted by: se pa moron at October 01, 2015 09:24 AM (sI4OA) 282

------------------------------------------- TFG only won 40% of the La. vote in each election, according to Wikipedia. Posted by: MTF at October 01, 2015 08:29 AM (TcePY) --------------------------- Yes. My bad for relying on the same Wikipedia for voting trend results. Nonetheless, the voting trend pre-2008 was highly Democratic. Look at their governors. Look at their state reps. LA swung solidly GOP in past eight years, with a series of defections from the Democrat party. Party id as recently as five years ago was 52 - 25 Dem/GOP. If it is now characterized as solid republican (which several strategists say), then that swing happened AFTER Jindal's ascension to governorship. Draw your own conclusions. Pretty sure it had more to do with NBC chasing ratings. Posted by: Brother Cavil, down with Eph 6:12-13 at October 01, 2015 09:28 AM (9krrF) 284

Taking this opportunity to remind the Horde, they may change the letter after their name, but they don't change their spots. Posted by: Brother Cavil, down with Eph 6:12-13 at October 01, 2015 09:30 AM (9krrF) 285
The reason I characterized LA as blue is because I know the state had a historical problem with corruption and inferred it was blue because "Democrat=Corrupt".
It is nice to see the data actually bears that out. Posted by: Ty Angur at October 01, 2015 09:30 AM (hJmIs) 286

Posted by: Brother Cavil, ----------------------------- At the risk of undermining my own argument that LA has only recently trended right, I also have to point out her Democrats were historically the most conservative on Team Blue. It is arguable they were Dems who just voted like GOP. In this case, they changed their spots to who they were. Posted by: Ty Angur at October 01, 2015 09:37 AM (hJmIs) 287

The mass black exodus after Katrina was definitely a factor in swinging Louisiana more GOP.
Many came to Houston, TX, where local police lovingly refer to "Generation Katrina" and all the positive changes they brought to the city. (It wasn't exactly New Orlean's best and brightest that showed up.) Posted by: I Work for Dick Jones at October 01, 2015 09:56 AM (oOLDI) 289
Well this interview started with some selfserving nonsense. Nobody can be interested in having a primary season as chaotic and destructive as in 2012. Of course those who look out for the interests of the Republican Party and its chances want a smaller, clearer field. If people like Governor Jindal cared about more than their own political careers they would step aside like Scott Walker - who was a credited as a conservative around here, last time I looked!
That this amateur hour with Trump, Carson and Fiorina has become acceptable is a dream come true for Wasserman-Schulz and Hillary Clinton. Posted by: Begonia at October 01, 2015 09:56 AM (NH+Rh) 290
One of the many troublesome aspects of the GOP field that deserves more comment is I haven't heard a single candidate talk about spending cuts.

Semp, in order to communicate more effectively with your average knuckle-dragging denier of the Holy Word of Global Warming, I suggest you insert the modifier "fuckin" in there. To wit: "could I suggest Super Fuckin Dooper for Cat 4 and Extra Fuckin Super Fuckin Dooper for Cat 5?" See how much clearer it is now? You're most welcome. I finally drag myself into the office right at break time and a couple of people were talking about Bill's interview on CNN and Hilary riding his coattails. It took every drop of discretion and maturity that I had to not comment.
You would think by now that people would know that Bill's coattails are the only thing of Bill's that Hilary wants to ride. Posted by: Usedtocould at October 01, 2015 11:19 AM (bYwuM) 297
