Real World Costs Of OPM Hack Starting To Trickle Out

Well, at least it's not like it's important we have intelligence assets in China or anything.

The CIA pulled a number of officers from the U.S. Embassy in Beijing as a precautionary measure in the wake of the massive cybertheft of the personal data of federal employees, current and former U.S. officials said.

...

Because the OPM records contained the background checks of State Department employees, officials privately said the Chinese could have compared those records with the list of embassy personnel. Anybody not on that list could be a CIA officer.

The CIA's move was meant to safeguard officers whose agency affiliation might be discovered as a result of the hack, said officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter.

Of course China would never share that kind of information with others in hopes of hampering the agents ability to be stationed anywhere.

Strangely enough, this whole mess doesn't seem to be getting as much attention as Valerie Plame did. Funny how the media is so selective about when they gin up outrage.

Gunna fah-nd that there varmint 'n bring 'm to justice, yessirree Bob.

With Colon Bowel sitting there literally right next to Bush, _knowing_ as Bush spoke that the individual who was responsible was Bowel's own personal aide at State, Richard Armitage. And yet saying nothing at all, and leaving the baying hounds to pull down and tear apart the luckless Libby instead.

Bowels gonna bowel. The person really at fault here is Bush 43, for figuring that Bowel was fit for an important top level federal post. And, by extension, Bush 41, for having consistently pushed the career advancement of Bowel not only during his own administration, but during the Reagan years.

121 And now... just WHY did this happen???

We were raised in the West, to have respect for laws. To understand that the law is something we need.... (yes, that has slipped in the last few years... but)...

Other cultures do not have that same 'programming' ...

Fraud, Bribery, and coercion are very normal business practices in much of the rest of the world (especially what we used to call the third world)...

So, now we allow people from these societies... with that moral base, into our IT infrastructure through a combination of H1B workers, and outsourcing.

We give people who do NOT have the same moral code as we in the West, administrative access to our data... and then wonder why SOME of them sell it, or give access to it, to others.

We are too trusting....

The science adviser to the President of the United States is someone who once wrote serious academic papers about the need to deliberately introduce chemicals into the public water supplies of the United States, to sterilize the populace and prevent overpopulation.

Think about that for a minute.

What's also worth thinking about is that the left, who shriek that overpopulation is killing the Erf, and who pushed loopy schemes like the one above to deal with overpopulation, suddenly have nothing but praise for mass immigration -- which leads to overpopulation. It's almost as though Fen's Law is as timeless and universal as are gravitation and electromagnetism.

What China (or other countries/organizations) got "out" of the OPM hack may not be as bad as what they may have gotten "in" from the hack.

There is no way to know what personae have been inserted into the database just waiting for someone to show up and claim. Root level access is just that - complete control over the contents, backups, and the trail that does (or doesn't) show alterations.

How in the hell do we have a Military, that is getting smaller, even though every year we pay more money for it??? unless they are doing really stupid shit with the money?

How can we have record tax receipts, and record deficits, at the same time?

How can a Federal Reserve Bank (a private institution which pays dividends to its investors) balance sheet, gone from a couple hundred billion, to over 4 TRILLION, in a few years, just by them printing money? (quantitative easing, just plain theft).
