Cruz created a strawman by saying the Constitution does not allow a religious test for the Presidency and he's a Constitutionalist. Carson did not say that a muslim should not be able to run but rather the US should not elect a muslim President. This in combination with his Trump love has me off the Cruz bandwagon.

114 The Hidden God revisits the origins of American pragmatism and finds a nascent "posthumanist" critique shaping early modern thought. By reaching as far back as the Calvinist arguments of the American Puritans and their struggle to know a "hidden God," this book brings American pragmatism closer to contemporary critical theory.
Ryan White reads the writings of key American philosophers, including Jonathan Edwards, Ralph Waldo Emerson, William James, and Charles Sanders Peirce, against modern theoretical works by Niklas Luhmann, Richard Rorty, Jacques Derrida, Sharon Cameron, Cary Wolfe, and Gregory Bateson. This juxtaposition isolates the distinctly posthumanist form of pragmatism that began to arise in these early texts, challenging the accepted genealogy of pragmatic discourse and common definitions of posthumanist critique. Its rigorously theoretical perspective has wide implications for humanities research, enriching investigations into literature, history, politics, and art.

Syria's civil war has prompted the first withdrawal of crop seeds from a "doomsday" vault built in an Arctic mountainside to safeguard global food supplies, officials said on Monday.

The seeds, including samples of wheat, barley and grasses suited to dry regions, have been requested by researchers in the Middle East to replace a collection in the Syrian city of Aleppo that has been damaged by the war.

138 For the first time, the United States may be willing to accept a United Nations condemnation of the U.S. trade embargo against Cuba without a fight, The Associated Press has learned.

U.S. officials tell the AP that the Obama administration is weighing abstaining from the annual U.N. General Assembly vote on a Cuban-backed resolution demanding that the embargo be lifted. The vote could come next month.

No decision has yet been made, said four administration officials who werent authorized to speak publicly on sensitive internal deliberations and demanded anonymity. But merely considering an abstention is unprecedented. Following through on the idea would send shock waves through both the United Nations and Congress.

It is unheard of for a U.N. member state not to oppose resolutions critical of its own laws.

And by not actively opposing the resolution, the administration would be effectively siding with the world body against Congress, which has refused to repeal the embargo despite calls from President Barack Obama to do so.

Would not surprise me the least, the fuckin commie cock sucker with no respect for Congress

I wonder. Does the language of the statute only specify that the vehicle pass an emissions test... or does it stipulate that the standards must be met at all times the car is operational.

Because if it stipulates it must pass the test..... VW passed the test and met the letter of the law.

327 Congress has only seven working days left to avoid a government shutdown, and a host of distractions in coming days will make that work even more difficult.

Despite the looming deadline, work on budget problems will all but shut down for two days this week. Congress will break from work Tuesday night for the start of Yom Kippur, and return to work Thursday morning to hear an address from Pope Francis.

Both events threaten to tighten an already hectic schedule for budget negotiators, who must reach agreement on at least a continuing resolution by midnight on Sept. 30 to keep federal programs funded, up and running into the new fiscal year.

A short-term budget extension is seen as the most likely solution because congressional plans for a full-year federal budget have stalled over a push by Republicans to use temporary war funds to get around mandatory budget caps for fiscal 2016 imposed by Congress, which would channel extra money to defense programs but leave spending limits for other government programs locked in place.

Democrats have pushed for a repeal of the caps on all programs, and are blocking any of the GOP-back budget plans from advancing.

394 Prescod-Weinstein recounts teaching herself calculus and physics when her high school ran out of classes at her level; she grew up reading the New York Times each morning on the school bus, and spent a year carrying around the complete works of William Shakespeare. She identifies as queer/agender, and has written about the collapse of her first marriage "under the pressure of many things, including my wife's family's homophobia."

Prescod-Weinstein's parents were both political activists, and she has followed their path. Most of her public social media posts focus on social justice, in the world of science and beyond. She has highlighted the professional challenges of investing her time in activism:

I've heard the pass through rate at St Judes is very high. Which is what I always want to hear about.

How much money goes to advertising, over head, expensive dinners for donors, etc. etc. and how much actually goes to the intended charities?

I'm a little cynical -- I think most "charities" don't do much other than pay their staff big money and pay for fundraising. But some, like St Judes, have a good reputation for actually using the money as intended.

I know people do, but personally, I would never figure your primary home into net worth. Gross worth, maybe.
Couple of reasons.
1) Unless you own it outright, you won't have the money it's listed at if you did sell it.
2) It's not easy to convert to cash.

I'm sure she's at home right now surrounded by family, incredibly upset, and not thinking about assholes on the internet.

Guy Benson was trying to do a nice thing for her.

I really wouldn't get too worked up about it. If you don't want to donate, don't. If you do, then do.

Yes, it is an interesting data point that her husband was a senior adviser to Obama on technology. I, too, was surprised to hear that and a little disappointed that MKH never disclosed that, especially when talking about things like the obamacare webpage launch.

but hey -- again, we can have that discussion later. For now, let's just try to be respectful of MKH and her families grief.
