50 Spies Aver: The Intelligence on ISIS Was "Cooked" To Become "Happy Talk" To Support Obama's Spin that ISIS Is JV and Being Handily Beaten

A scandal-free administration.

No Drama Obama doesn't want the American people to know that he's fucking up everywhere.

So, how does a president who's failing catastrophically overseas hide that information from his domestic audience?

Simple answer, really: You lie about everything.

Shane Harris and Nancy Yousef:

More than 50 intelligence analysts working out of the U.S. military's Central Command have formally complained that their reports on ISIS and al Qaeda’s branch in Syria were being inappropriately altered by senior officials, The Daily Beast has learned.

The complaints spurred the Pentagon’s inspector general to open an investigation into the alleged manipulation of intelligence. The fact that so many people complained suggests there are deep-rooted, systemic problems in how the U.S. military command charged with the war against the self-proclaimed Islamic State assesses intelligence.

"The cancer was within the senior level of the intelligence command," one defense official said.

...

[The first complaint filed by two analysts] was supported by 50 other analysts, some of whom have complained about politicizing of intelligence reports for months.

The accusations suggest that a large number of people tracking the inner workings of the terror groups think that their reports are being manipulated to fit a public narrative. The allegations echoed charges that political appointees and senior officials cherry-picked intelligence about Iraq's supposed weapons program in 2002 and 2003.

...

Some of those CENTCOM analysts described the sizeable cadre of protesting analysts as a "revolt" by intelligence professionals who are paid to give their honest assessment, based on facts, and not to be influenced by national-level policy. The analysts have accused senior-level leaders, including the commander in charge of intelligence and his deputy in CENTCOM, of changing their analyses to be more in line with the Obama administration's public contention that the fight against ISIS and al Qaeda is making progress.

I can only excerpt that as a tease. More specifics at the Daily Beast.

6 President Obama is literally everything the left accused President Bush of being. Falsified intel? Check. Killing civilians gleefully? Drones, check. Destabilizing the world? Arab Spring and Russia out of control, check. Illegal war? Libyan "kinetic action" check. All of it. Not true of Bush, all true of Obama.

Strangely they aren't out on the streets protesting.

The double good news: At least one was flown by one of the Iraqi students whom we , taught English to, trained in an Officer Training School, taught initial flight training, (in country) then finished F-16 qual. I trained these young men in 2008.

Oh, don't get me wrong. A correct and succinct recounting would say that Clinton picked Tenet to head the CIA, and Bush kept him on, and thus that Tenet's failures and lapses of judgement have to be laid at the doorsteps of both Presidents.

That fairly simple story ain't often told. It's "Bush's CIA Director George Tenet" in 99% of the retellings in the media.

Almost as though the press were a bunch of Democratic operatives with bylines intent upon protecting the Clintons' continued political viability. But we all know that can't possibly be true.

145 Bob Woodward spent several years and produced two books on the run-up to and conduct of the Iraq War. He was on television the other day being interviewed, and someone brought up "the manipulation of intelligence on Iraq and WMDs." Woodward said he had full access and found not a single instance of intelligence being manipulated by anyone, political, military, or intel agencies. It was wrong, but it was just wrong. And every major intel service in the world believed the same thing - the Brits, French, Russians, Saudis, Egyptians, Israelis, and Chinese included.

So that is just more leftist revisionism - a fancy way of saying lies. As was the "17 words" about yellow cake. In Bush's UN speech, he gave seven major reasons for invading Iraq, and yellow cake was just a part of ONE of them. The lack of WMDs in no way invalidated the other six reasons.

Given the strong leftist bent of the AP (especially on the "global warming" claptrap, where their Seth Borenstein has been beclowning himself for years now), that is editorially consequential.

180 The Daily Mail has a story up about a Yazidi woman named Muna who was a sex slave to ISIS, and the head knocker Baghdadi himself, and was with Kayla Mueller and is telling some of the details. It's absolutely brutal.

The first thing they did to Kayla was rip her fingernails out with pliers. Then constant beatings and rape. Said Kayla didn't resist, as she was told if she did, they'd behead her. They forced them all to watch the beheadings and all that as a terror/compliance tool.

Why the hell is this bunch allowed to breathe one more second that necessary? Just think if you were POTUS and word came to you that a sweet (and oh so naive) American girl was being treated this way by savages such as this. Would you sit there coolly? What would you do?

There would be some smoking asses there, big time. Likely couldn't save her without killing her along with the rest, but so be it. And the ratio of dead Jihad jockeys to dead American girls would be quite astronomical.

Posted by: achmet al-gamal at September 09, 2015 10:28 PM (9Py5z)

203 #145: Yeah, and I think there was one major factor in why the intelligence turned out to be wrong.

All the little details pointed to Saddam having revived his WMD program. He'd kicked out the UN inspectors, and he had contacted Nigeria about buying uranium.

I think Saddam was pretending to have an active WMD program again.

Why would he do this? To discourage an invasion from Iraq's long-time enemy Iran. Iran has five times the population of Iraq, and would likely win a conventional war between them.

And there were all sorts of tactical considerations that could've made Iraq's outlook even bleaker in such a war. For example, Iraq's best fighters are the Kurds, who aren't particularly fond of the Iraqi state. Suppose Iran put the word out right before invading Iraq that the Kurds would be given their own country in exchange for not interfering with the Iranian invasion of Iraq?

Saddam knew he was taking a big chance, violating the terms of his cease-fire with the US (and a cease-fire is all it was, contingent on Saddam's continued compliance with the system of UN inspections to make sure he wasn't making WMDs anymore).

Saddam knew he was walking a tightrope. He had to put the fear of Allah into Iran, without spurring the US to take its own military action against him. His gamble failed, in large part due to 9/11 making us take potential threats much more seriously for a while.

That's my theory on why so many nations got the intelligence wrong in the end.

Well, I'm sure we could think of SOMETHING else he would have done.

Obama doesn't believe in anything but himself, he's too self-centered to believe in something larger than himself.

But he does think like a Third World Man, and has a deep resentment of most everything real Americans value. He loathes most of us, as bitter clingers opposing the dreams of his commie daddy.

In the years to come, after Obama leaves office, a lot of things that he's done will come to light, and we'll be even more appalled. A lot of really rotten things he's probably done are being concealed. I would not be at all surprised that he instructed the IRS to do what they've done (through an intermediary).
And I would bet that Hillary and Barack were running weapons from the looted arsenals of Libya to some of the "rebels" fighting Assad (who were part of ISIS). We've all speculated about that.

their records in office.

Jeb did a fine job as Gov of Florida. His hard left turn didn't come until after he left office.

This is the Republican problem in national politics. The party is doing well at the State level, but they are trying to figure out where the "Center" is in national politics in the Age of Obama, so they are all over the place. The party has lost any guiding principles in national politics, and just wants to campaign on what is "poll tested". Their pragmatism has led them down to a dead end, and some of them just don't know it yet. The bullshit mainstream lying Media plays a part in this, but don't these guys even know what reality is?

Trump just has figured out on his own where the Center is, and has hit a lot of populist ideas in his speeches. He has actually been at this for a couple of years.
Bombastic, egotistical, extravagant to be sure. I don't think he is a clown or stupid.

Yes, he is incredibly smart. A very bright guy. But unfortunately, only a small percentage of the electorate will ever see any candidate in person. Most people will make their decision based on certain confirmational appearances and certain things they think the candidates say. People hear a lot of things, but it's the sum total of all this plus a few key things that make people decide.

I'm like, sure there is some oil activity in my county, and we have some gub'mint agencies in the nearby metro counties but it can't be enough to really have boosted the economy.

But we have locally had some big fires and floods the last 5 years or so and I suppose insurance money came in and houses that had been sitting empty from Oconomy were bought to replace ruined houses and that also helped things look better.

yes. do you know how desultory the air campaign is? 13 strikes per day. Compare that to a desert storm, where there were 100s of strikes per day.

Obama is a repulsively murderous pacifist (murderous because he enables murderers), and he is determined to only kill LEADERS, never fighters, so he never permits us to just take out tanks and trucks and gun positions -- no "leaders" there.

Thus the anemic pace of the bombing.

After they killed that archaeologist, I saw ISIS rolling up and down the streets in triumph, flying their black flags out of jeeps -- about 20 jeeps cruising up and down in victory.

DO you think any other president would let that caravan parade around, or would they kill every driver and every passenger?

Only obama is this in love with foreign terrorists as to prefer that innocents be murdered, rather than he harm a hair on their precious heads.

Does he not understand his own base. Yes, like ace i don't think Trump is a Bible thumper.

But very committed Christians absolutely hate questioning a man's personal relationship with God.

I don't understand this one.

373 I don't believe the local economy is booming anywhere in this country right now. A year/two ago it was absolutely mind-blowing in the oil field. Died down now quite a bit.

I don't know where else it would be going great guns.
Posted by: Ricardo Kill at September 09, 2015 11:14 PM (BHQcT)

The north Dallas suburbs are booming big time. Lots of big companies are moving their headquarters or large offices here, like Toyota and State Farm. The State Farm/ Raytheon complex going up near us is a $1.5 billion project.

If the national economy craters, I expect the local boom will stop.

The oil industry stinks, but they're still fracking new wells in the Eagleford down around Gonzales.

375 Thus the anemic pace of the bombing.

Oh, I'm fully aware. As much as I'd like to whack them, though--and, yeah, I would expect that--I think Libya is making the idea we can establish peace without ground troops look very weak. So, if we're not doing it, somebody else needs to ante up.

I haven't expected other countries to ante up for something like this without U.S. leadership for decades. I still don't. So, that's as much an indictment of the entire planet as the U.S.

377 >>>Ace, is there nothing to be done with this scumbag degenerate that mocks us at will?

yes i banned him but it is not instantaneous. furthermore, in this particular instance one of the means (the trollbusters script) did not respond for a while.

look, fellas, you have to give me a break here -- there is no person available at all hours to moderate threads. sometimes there's going to be no one round.

385 #377: Oh, and I also wanted to say... I criticized the disappearing of WeirdDave's post without any sort of explanation a couple of weeks ago, Ace, but I understand better now.

I realize that an "explanation" thread would only encourage the potentially ugly arguments to continue. So, yeah, I understand now that that was the right call, and I apologize for my earlier criticism.

Posted by: Prothonotary Warbler... Trump/Cruz 2016! at September 09, 2015 11:34 PM (wKc1L)

386 I also get that nobody wants to be the comment police on weekends, so threads with the potential to turn ugly will just be nipped in the bud.

It makes sense to me, now that I've had more time to think on it.

Posted by: Prothonotary Warbler... Trump/Cruz 2016! at September 09, 2015 11:39 PM (wKc1L)

387 yes that's it, protonotary, everyone wants the weekends off, me, the cobs, everyone, so we're not exactly encouraging contentious threads on the weekend.

WHEN I'm around and can moderate, I will put such threads up, but we're not having other people do so. Too much work to moderate.

Posted by: ace at September 09, 2015 11:43 PM (dciA+)

388 We are obviously losing the war against ISIS. They take a new city every couple of months and there are (some legitimate) refugees streaming out of their area. Politicians always lie about winning or losing wars - but maps of enemy territory don't lie.
