Somebody Has To Freshen Things Up A Bit - [Niedermeyer's Dead Horse]

Although I see nothing in the queue I feel certain that Y-Not is working on a glorious politics thread as I type this. In the meantime, test yourself against the minion of the Vast Anti-Trump Conspiracy (#VATC), Hugh Hewitt, and see if you can do better than Trump.

I'm betting you will.

Yes, it's an open thread.

4 I love the Clinton campaign spin on why they paid an IT guy on the side to set up their private email server: They didn't think it was "fair" to use tax payer money to pay him. Yeah, you're all about saving the gubmint $$, aren't you? I'm sure the used Clinton Foundation $$ to pay the guy instead.

Why do the five richest gulf state oil producing country not shelter refugees from Syria?

Why is it the obligation of Western Civilization to take in refugees fleeing chaos in their home countries?

If Western Civilization is such a wonderous place to live that people risk their life and the lives of family members to reach sanctuary in Western countries, why is it such an evil thing for Western countries to go into places of civil unrest and impose order and good governance as they practice it?

20 A shout out to all WWII vets. I am in China working and they made this special holiday to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the surrender of the Japan and the end of WWII. All factories were closed and workers off to celebrate per the orders of the "gummit"

There has been nothing but Chinese WWII movies on all week here. It's been a really big deal. There were parades and such and lots of hoopla.

I had many people stop me on the street and ask me if I was an American and talked a lot to me. They were really extra nice, My Chinese isn't that good but what I got out of it was they really appreciate the US stopping the Japanese in their tracks in WWII.

The Japanese really did a lot of horrible things in China, and not only to the soldiers but to the people too.

These Chinese people remember what you US WWII vets did and the sacrifices you made. If any of you are WWII vets (like my Dad) I just wanted you know to know that.

You guys are truly the 'Greatest Generation".

My question is, what has electing politicians done for our country? They spout a bunch of platitudes during the campaign, and then get into office only to find that what they promised isn't feasible based on discovering the actual extent of the problems. Until he's briefed on the intelligence, how's does he(or anyone else for that matter) know what's needed to deal with any issue, let alone foreign policy?

Once upon a time I knew all the leaders in the Middle East by name, and could tell you what each of the naughty groups were up to, and who each nation was aligned with.

Now, it's a fustercluck. Thanks to Obama.

We have one of two choices, go in and kill as many of them as necessary (I have no specific number, however many it is, is how many it is), or walk away and tell them to stay out of the west.

That's it. Knowing the names of who is doing what to whom matters not at all. It serves a purpose we can no longer call a viable option.

120 Questions we need to ask Presidential candidates:

Describe your vision of America. What part can you bring about ?

The courts have said I can have privacy in all matters where I can
expect privacy. When can I expect privacy ?

Who are the "middle class" ? Be specific

Do you have any "executive experience" ? How big was this organization
(people/revenues) ?

What was the hardest non-governmental job you ever had ?

Are there any assurances that appear to have been inferred or implied
during the campaign that you feel you won't be able to back up with
action once in office ?

When should you and your staff be held responsible, and what form would
"being held responsible" take ?

As far as I know there is no official definition and I've been told in
some languages it is just not defined, so please .. define "fair"

Please define "infrastructure"

What kind of grades did you get in school for "working well with others" ?

Give an example of how you work with those whom you don't agree.

Are you a "victim" ? If so, why should anybody ever elect a "victim" as
President and Leader of the Free World ?

what is your plan to deal with a Higgs Boson disaster ?

Describe all the parts of the "Obama Doctrine"

How important would "sustainability" be to your administration's climate
policy ?

(This is a trick question because most sustainability efforts involve
continued use of carbon-based energy whose production and use have an
even larger carbon footprint)

Explain the difference between Quds and Scuds

Actually, it looks like he was a Clinton IT guy who was then given a job with the State Dept.... so he still had to sign all those silly forms...

And as a staffer, should not have been given a pass on either his training, or security clearance.

Clinton's stuff was apparently a 'side job' which was not disclosed to the State Dept., nor was the pay from the Clinton's on the forms he must turn in every year about outside income.

Now why Hillary got to bring her own IT staff onboard? to a GS job?? don't know...

He then LEFT the State Dept. when Hillary left... but is still listed as a Contractor for the State Dept.

148 If you want to read something scary about the refuge crises, see Robert Spencer's article, "The Hijrah into Europe"

Hijrah, or jihad by emigration, is, according to Islamic tradition, the migration or journey of Muhammad and his followers from Mecca to Yathrib, later renamed by him to Medina, in the year 622 CE...

To emigrate in the cause of Allah --- that is, to move to a new land in order to bring Islam there, is considered in Islam to be a highly meritorious act.

I easily answered all 6 questions just from being a lifelong current events junkie.

I'm not an intel analyst and I'm certainly not running for Commander-in-Chief.

Trumps clueless "uninformed-on-basic-headline-stuff-that -half-the-country-can-answer-just-from-paying-attention- to-shit" performance on Hewitt's show has the ChiComs Russkies Mullahs licking their chops. Trumps repeated name-checking of "our Kurds" was equally buffoonish.

And it won't make a shred of difference to your basic Trumpista.

"BTW, I fucking despise the word 'fair'."

P.J. O'Rourke's been off his game in the last few years, in my opinion, but I like his response to his then 12-ish daughter's complaining that something wasn't fair - roughly as follows:

"Fair? Honey, you're cute. That's not fair. You're smart. That's not fair. You were born in America. That's not fair. You'd better get down on your knees and pray that life doesn't start getting fair for you."

A test like this isn't trivia, it's a way to determine if you're interested and engaged with the issues that you say you'd like to lead the world in addressing for the next 8 years.

From your link:

"The Supreme Court has ruled," Trump said Friday. "It is the law of the land."

That's the disturbing part for me. He doesn't seem to understand that the Supreme Court are not supposed to be nine dictators in black robes.

But Davis should either do her job or resign in protest. That much is pretty clear to me. I do foresee persecution of Christians in the future, but this isn't it.

Just because Obama and the mayors of sanctuary cities think they can pick and choose to only enforce the laws they agree with doesn't make it right.

218 OK folks....

Think about this...

Only about 20% of Americans 'trust' the Government all or most of the time.

Only about 30% of Americans trust the NEWS Media all or most of the time.

Now my guess is that there is a large intersection between those two groups... who vote.

Trump is banking on this very idea... he is running against both Washington AND the Press...

There are those who still 'trust' one part (say, the Republican part) of Government... who will still support it... or still trust 'part' of the media... who therefore don't see this as a viable strategy...

and thus condemn his attacks on said Press, or Washington (including GOP)...

But IMO its all part of his strategy...

Just sign off on the crap. It is obvious that they were signed under duress.

220 Trump should know he is going to be getting all sorts of questions thrown at him.

He should either wonk out and learn as much policy detail as possible, or he should have an overview and an idea of policy direction in each area.

Somebody upthread pointed out that Trump only had to identify the idea that the Middle East was a clusterfuck of a shithole made worse by the obamessiah.

Not that this gotcha Q didn't lower Trump a bit for me in estimation, but even so, he is still miles above the competition, with the exception of Cruz.

And then there is the echo of Harry Reid with reference to the Koch brothers. Now such a person is the GOP front runner.
