Rauner was elected to make things right after years of Democrat rule in the governors mansion.
He hired the GOPes version of Jamie Gorelick in which he paid her 30k a month to come up with a budget plan and way forward out of the economic mess.
She's now split after 8 months and 240k in tax payer money.
I would be royally pissed if I was an Illinois tax payer right about now.

I hope so, Fenelon, but we've seen this happen to child stars before her and it usually doesn't end well. .That is not uncommon. After I retried from the Navy I hooked up with a guy that did professional fundraising. The one I helped him collect donations for was a Police Benevolent Association. I got an address book from him and drove around in my car to pickup donations that people had pledged. I got 20% of the total I hauled in for the day paid in cash. He kept between 40-50% of the total take that his people got making cold calls and calls from previous years drives.
The Cops got the remaining 30 to 40% depending on which contract they had signed with him and they considered that a win because they didn't have to do any work in getting the money.
It is a huge money making scam that works because everyone keeps their mouth shut on how much money doesn't make it to the charity.

Yes, the idea is that since white people don't see themselves *as* white people (we "look in the mirror and just see a [person],") we're more guilty of racism because we *force* minorities (the story in question was about a black woman) to see themselves *as* minorities - they look in the mirror and "see a black [person]."
And it's all "white cis-normative patriarchal" society's fault, because "society" looks at her as "being less because she's black."

Would give hope that justice outweighs the racial identity theory of a life well lived.
We have close emotional and friendship ties with Charleston. And the families of the nine murdered church goers, as well as the response of the people of the city made me proud.
While we were on our annual vacation back there several weeks ago, Mrs VIA had a chance to speak with a black shop owner who we know in the downtown market.
His opinion of the citizens response to the recent Baltimore unpleasantness is unprintable, but coincides with many of our opinions.

I got something similar to that back in college ten-plus years ago - colorblindness is a form of racism. It was a fairly conservative denominational college, too, but they went for "diversity" in a big way when I was there.

Uh, no. All he said was that some people had mentioned some concerns at a town hall meeting and we should keep all options on the table. That's about as anodyne and generic a non-commitment statement that could be made.
To the extent that these very mild, non-commitment statements cause people to focus on the fact that our immigration problem is a bigger than the obsession amongst the loudest voices on the internet with Mexicans, that's a good thing. For too long, all discussion about these issues has been dominated by a very small minority of people screaming about Hispanics. These people discredit the very notion of examining critically what changes need to be made with their constant screeching about "invasions."
Some people will laugh at what he said but if we are actually serious about national security and border issues, I'd be looking north as well as south. Especially if we are concerned about immigrant communities sheltering Islamic radicals. Last time I checked, there were a shit-ton more Muslims in states like Michigan, New York, Minnesota, and Ohio than in Arizona or New Mexico.
Unless of course all this sturm and drang about illegal immigration is actually more about "press one for English, dos para Español" than about actual national security concerns...

I used to live in a meth-infested rural area from hell, and worked in a store that was like that at night. You could go in the store during the day, but at night, everything was through the rotating bullet-resistant window. I hated that job. Also, some black pastors asked the Smithsonian to remove the Margaret Sanger bust from their Civil Rights exhibit. They were rebuffed. So last week they returned w/a petition of 14,000+ signatures and a press conference. This time the Smithsonian PR person met with them. No news on the bust, though. As I understand it, though, the whole "cheating" thing was let go with a "don't do that again." For Brady specifically, the punishment (if I've followed it correctly) is for interfering with the investigation- specifically, that he destroyed his cell phone when he knew it would be of interest to the investigators.
And that *is* a big deal. If all I have to do to get out of trouble is "accidentally" drop my cell phone in the toilet, then the League can't enforce most of it's off-the-field/equipment rules: by the time you can confirm the rule has been broken, any evidence of "intent" will always be gone.

.I was looking at a chart that has historical Fed interest rates on Wiki. you are correct, it will be brutal if the Fed ever gets the interest rate back to anything resembling a historical normal. 4-5% would destroy the Federal budget as interest on the debt alone would take most of the Tax revenue for the year.
We are truly heading for a hard landing and the only thing that will keep us out of it is perpetual 0% by the Fed or a default on the debt because the outlying years are going to be interesting when the Social Security bomb explodes.

But all Ghetto areas look much the same....actually Philly looked better than most. Try Newark, and other northern NJ cities for example, or Roxbury, MA. etc.

Actually, the Commish isn't an entity unto himself. The Commish represents the league of owners. The other owners are pissed at the Patriots and Goodell has to keep the league organized.
When Brady appeals, he is challenging the owners of the league. That's why Bob Kraft didn't appeal Goodell's suspension of Brady. Kraft has to work with the owners of the other teams and if he appealed, they can consider whether the Patriots belong in the league or not.
This isn't just about Goodell.

Confession. Last century, on a CompuServe forum (pre-Internet), I briefly took the smartass stance of "being bi" in the sense of being able to - intellectually - appreciate the sexuality of menfolk, as they seem to women, along with my natural appreciation of gals.
I don't remember how I got into that. It was more about language than sexuality, I think. Mostly I remember my debate correspondent insisting that unless one had actual sexual contact, it didn't count. What? I knew I liked girls long before I had contact!
I was having fun. Being an idiot. I sure hope all those forum posts got Hillaried decades ago. I have a bunch of my own stuff stored on 5" floppies that can only be read by a Shack Model I computer, so they're secure.
