The failure of GOPe can be seen with what's going on in Illinois.
Rauner was elected to make things right after years of Democrat rule in the governors mansion. He hired the GOPes version of Jamie Gorelick in which he paid her 30k a month to come up with a budget plan and way forward out of the economic mess. She's now split after 8 months and 240k in tax payer money. I would be royally pissed if I was an Illinois tax payer right about now. Good job Rauner. You putz. I hope so, Fenelon, but we've seen this happen to child stars before her and it usually doesn't end well. Lindsay Lohan is still a train wreck, Brittany Spears will likely be under a the care of a court-ordered conservator for probably the rest of her life (her poor kids), and then there are the ones who end up like Amy Winehouse. It's just sad to watch this happen again and again... Posted by: Lizzy at August 31, 2015 08:57 AM (NOIQH) 10
It strikes me that immigration law is the only time I can think that Washington looks around and admits that the system IT put in place isn't working and needs to change.*
Otherwise, government NEVER admits failure, and certainly does not subject itself to change. (*Of course, it's failed by deliberate lack of enforcement, so this admission is a sham.) Posted by: Pappy O'Daniel at August 31, 2015 08:58 AM (oVJmc) 11

As I said on the Yahoo! Group: Way to have your finger on the pulse of America there, Walker. Strictly speaking, he's not wrong. To the extent statistics are kept on these things, I understand that illegals come in from Canada as much (or nearly so) as they do from Mexico. So if we're really serious about "secure the border," that means the Northern one, too. However. It is not filthy Scandi illegals who hopped to Canada and then in to the US who are causing all the gang violence. Do I want them gone too? You betcha. As I've pointed out many times, simply being here illegally (and surviving) requires that you commit multiple major felonies every day - identity fraud and such, among others. These are not "good people." But muddying the waters - especially with something the MFM can so easily paint as "crazy" - is just stupid. He kept between 40-50% of the total take that his people got making cold calls and calls from previous years drives. The Cops got the remaining 30 to 40% depending on which contract they had signed with him and they considered that a win because they didn't have to do any work in getting the money. Re: McKinley, Obama's petty tyranny is so pathetic. There's literally nothing he wouldn't do to disrespect what is fine and good and worthy of respect to white people.
What's crazy about Obama's brand of juvenile racism is that he seems to think whites sit around in a clubhouse or something thinking of ways to screw over blacks. But even though I live in Texas (presumably one of the locations of said clubhouses) I don't know any racists, in fact I never even hear race mentioned except as a basic descriptor ("it was a black dude in a red shirt driving a white F250" or whatever) or by minority grievance mongers trying to pimp out the very communities they claim to represent. Obama himself, however, does seem to surround himself with a bunch of race-obsessed pricks who spend 24/7 thinking up ways to screw over white people. It's pretty tough to not be moved watching people take the oath of citizenship, but one thing you will find is there is a very diverse mix of people taking it. Last one I went to, there were maybe 35 nationalities represented, and they were pretty well dispersed throughout the world.
But you know where almost none came from? Central and South America. There were 2 Mexican's, and that was it. The rest came from everywhere else in the world, and to me that's very telling. Seriously, go check one out sometime if they do a special event on one of the big national holidays. I tend to stop by the Betsy Ross house on 4th of July, because the officials dress up in period clothes and it's pretty rah-rah. Posted by: Chupacabras at August 31, 2015 09:37 AM (XiVKO) 116

Yes, the idea is that since white people don't see themselves *as* white people (we "look in the mirror and just see a [person],") we're more guilty of racism because we *force* minorities (the story in question was about a black woman) to see themselves *as* minorities - they look in the mirror and "see a black [person]." In 2000, Dr. Virani was dispatched to India, where vultures were dying in great numbers but no one knew why.
"Everywhere I went, there were dead vultures," he said. "But everywhere, their remains were in good condition." The initial hypothesis was that some type of infectious disease was behind the deaths. Soon it became clear that the killer was man-made. A painkiller widely used to treat livestock was poisoning the birds that fed on their carcasses. One carcass with the painkiller in its system could poison hundreds of birds, Dr. Virani said, and by 2006, when the painkiller was officially banned, the vulture population had already declined by 97 percent. Over the same period, there was a drastic rise in cases of rabies in India, with feral dogs taking advantage of the decline in vultures and often spreading the disease to humans. Dr. Virani described what he called apocalyptic scenes, with hordes of wild dogs numbering in the thousands, scavenging the remains of livestock. Estimates vary, but some put the feral dog population in India now as high as 25 million. Posted by: Rachel Carson at August 31, 2015 09:55 AM (e8kgV) 179

Being relatively new construction, the building had a very small number of windows, and the doors were very narrow as well. I'm guessing that the next version will have lesser, and thicker windows, an airlock type entry/exit, and a narcotics safe that would rival a local bank vault. I was amazed to hear several weeks later that something like thirty pharmacies were targeted and looted for prescription drugs during the unpleasantness. As far as the remaining of Mt Mckinley, it's as others noted-yet another petty trolling by Obama- and a "stray volt" to detach from all his other debacles and corrupt dealings. It's foolish anyway. The people who live there will refer to it as Mt. Mckinley or Denali or whatever they have done for decades. Officially the name will change-the nomenclature locally won't. I think of Obama as the American Canute-He's be down there at the waves forbidding the ocean to rise simply because he said so. However, Canute actually did it as a way to show the ultimate powerless of the King in comparison to God. Since Obama thinks he's God the shows will continue.

I really love when a politician is asked about a subject like, say, a border fence or wall along the Canadian border, he says something generic about it and "we should look at all options," and the press is all, "Candidate X thinks we should put sharks with frickin' lasers on their heads on the Canadian border!!111!1!!"
Uh, no. All he said was that some people had mentioned some concerns at a town hall meeting and we should keep all options on the table. That's about as anodyne and generic a non-commitment statement that could be made. To the extent that these very mild, non-commitment statements cause people to focus on the fact that our immigration problem is a bigger than the obsession amongst the loudest voices on the internet with Mexicans, that's a good thing. For too long, all discussion about these issues has been dominated by a very small minority of people screaming about Hispanics. These people discredit the very notion of examining critically what changes need to be made with their constant screeching about "invasions." Some people will laugh at what he said but if we are actually serious about national security and border issues, I'd be looking north as well as south. Especially if we are concerned about immigrant communities sheltering Islamic radicals. Last time I checked, there were a shit-ton more Muslims in states like Michigan, New York, Minnesota, and Ohio than in Arizona or New Mexico. Unless of course all this sturm and drang about illegal immigration is actually more about "press one for English, dos para Español" than about actual national security concerns... A court of law does not require proof. It requires evidence.
Also, the League is not a court of law. As I understand it, though, the whole "cheating" thing was let go with a "don't do that again." For Brady specifically, the punishment (if I've followed it correctly) is for interfering with the investigation- specifically, that he destroyed his cell phone when he knew it would be of interest to the investigators. And that *is* a big deal. If all I have to do to get out of trouble is "accidentally" drop my cell phone in the toilet, then the League can't enforce most of it's off-the-field/equipment rules: by the time you can confirm the rule has been broken, any evidence of "intent" will always be gone. What evidence? It's like Global Warming, if it was real, why would they have to lie about it? When the League told Mort that 11 of 12 balls were 2 PSI low and spent the subsequent few months failing to correct the report despite having the true numbers in hand shows bad faith. The Commish has the power to do nearly anything he wants, so if the Judge overturns this, it will be a huge rebuke to Goodell and the League, and they need one, bad.

>>>>>Any rate hikes will be minimal. Every day brings us closer to the next inevitable recession. Nobody raises rates in a downturn.
Every 1/4 point increase raises interest payments on the federal debt by around $50 billion. A return to the long term average rate will collapse the budget, AND the economy. . . .I was looking at a chart that has historical Fed interest rates on Wiki. you are correct, it will be brutal if the Fed ever gets the interest rate back to anything resembling a historical normal. 4-5% would destroy the Federal budget as interest on the debt alone would take most of the Tax revenue for the year. We are truly heading for a hard landing and the only thing that will keep us out of it is perpetual 0% by the Fed or a default on the debt because the outlying years are going to be interesting when the Social Security bomb explodes. Here in Philly, all the Chinese take-out counters are encased in the
thick lexan screens. You can usually buy your usual convenience store counter items from them as well. I have been to so many areas like that the last few years (on business) I did get to go to Camden, NJ on a snowy day, I was glad to see the snow in that city. But all Ghetto areas look much the same....actually Philly looked better than most. Try Newark, and other northern NJ cities for example, or Roxbury, MA. etc. Posted by: Colin at August 31, 2015 10:19 AM (eoM8x) 250
They're going to inflate our way out of the national debt, I can't see how else they would do it. Certainly won't be by cutting spending.

"The Commish has the power to do nearly anything he wants,"
Actually, the Commish isn't an entity unto himself. The Commish represents the league of owners. The other owners are pissed at the Patriots and Goodell has to keep the league organized. When Brady appeals, he is challenging the owners of the league. That's why Bob Kraft didn't appeal Goodell's suspension of Brady. Kraft has to work with the owners of the other teams and if he appealed, they can consider whether the Patriots belong in the league or not. This isn't just about Goodell. This isn't just about Goodell.
Posted by: Adirondack Patriot at August 31, 2015 10:21 AM (4AVeu) Bad PR all the way around. We were talking about this shit heading into the super bowl. Now here we are 1 preseason game away from the regular season and we are still talking about it. Goodell was too harsh and Brady shouldn't have filed a lawsuit. Now the NFL will be always in litigation with its players. God dammit. Play FB Posted by: Misanthropic Humanitarian at August 31, 2015 10:23 AM (OLNwX) 253
Brady should have trusted the NFL with his cellphone?

FenelonSpoke: ...or is it the stupid idea that if you have a crush-as it were on someone of the same sex-without actually having any sort of intimate relations with them that you must not be 100% heterosexual.
Kids today are tremendously confused. Confession. Last century, on a CompuServe forum (pre-Internet), I briefly took the smartass stance of "being bi" in the sense of being able to - intellectually - appreciate the sexuality of menfolk, as they seem to women, along with my natural appreciation of gals. I don't remember how I got into that. It was more about language than sexuality, I think. Mostly I remember my debate correspondent insisting that unless one had actual sexual contact, it didn't count. What? I knew I liked girls long before I had contact! I was having fun. Being an idiot. I sure hope all those forum posts got Hillaried decades ago. I have a bunch of my own stuff stored on 5" floppies that can only be read by a Shack Model I computer, so they're secure. Dr. Virani described what he called apocalyptic scenes, with hordes of wild dogs numbering in the thousands, scavenging the remains of livestock. Estimates vary, but some put the feral dog population in India now as high as 25 million.
Posted by: Rachel Carson at August 31, 2015 09:55 AM (e8kgV) I call bullshit. First: Indian farmers are dosing their livestock with painkillers? Why? Empathy for the feelings of animals just doesn't run that high in that part of the world. Second: India's a very large country. Twentyfive million feral dogs there just ain't that many. Means you'd have to really go looking to see them. Hell of a lot more people. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at August 31, 2015 10:48 AM (aRgrb) 260
