Is anyone surprise that the lawyer for the defense protests his client's innocence? However, the problem with David Ignatius is he is genuinely stupid. I wouldn't put it past him to not have bothered with any research whatsoever, and perhaps to have initiated the entire column based on an unsolicited phone call from Jeffrey Smith, a couple of hours before his column was due. The T dumping shitstorm may be increasing. ChiComs have been dumping a bit to shore up the yuan, and now it turns out the Saudis are going to have to start burning some Ts.
The trouble is oil prices. They decided to let them drop trying to put our frackers out of business, but now it's gotten out of hand, and they're going to be a running a deficit. The sheiks like to live large and to finance that deficit, they're gonna need to burn some of their T holdings. They're also issuing some debt themselves to make. Now, all of this T dumping is going to put upward pressure on rates (bad for Uncle Sugar's $19T debt, of course). Again, QuEeen Janet is going to have her hands full with some forces beyond her control out there. QE4 and big is almost guaranteed now. She's going to have to do some more monetary butt stuff big time. It's been clear, just an ominous feeling, that a YUGE economic shitstorm was coming, and now we're getting a glimpse of what the opening act may be. Vic was the guy beating the drum for ramming speed when the Romans defeated Cleopatra at Actiun.
- History of the Battle of Actium. Augustus and Antony rule the world together but then Cleopatra was all, "Fuck this shit, Antony. Let's 86 Augustus then rule the world together while fvcking like rabbits." Antony was like, "Cool." So they got their ships together and went to Actium to get it on. But then Augustus and his ships come and they're all out a gum. Cleopatra sees this and decides to split to Egypt. Antony sees her leaving and he's all, "Bitch!" and he splits to Egypt, too. But Augustus is all, "Assholes!" and follows them. Antony and Cleopatra have hot make up sex but then they look up and see Augustus coming and he's all pissed off. Antony and Cleopatra are all, "Shit!" so Antony falls on his sword and Cleopatra is asp bit. Posted by: The Great _______ Snark at August 28, 2015 09:36 PM (Nwg0u) 228

Kelly Johnson worked on the Lockheed Model 10 Electra, and was largely responsible for changing it from a single-tail aircraft, to the double tail we all know from our history books.
This, while he was still an undergraduate at the University of Michigan. Lockheed hired him upon graduation, and the rest, as they say, is history. But that work on the Electra far, far predated any work on the P-38. Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at August 28, 2015 09:44 PM (McRlu) 236

I also had to address EEOC requirements on equal employment opportunity and comply with other laws that required hiring a certain number of the disabled. Somewhere in the Great Morass that is the Intertubes, I read an account (I think it was a blog by someone who actually flew SR-71's) of some traffic on an air traffic frequency in the desert regions, that started out with a Piper asking for an altitude and speed check - it develops into a one-up game, as a passing airliner, a fighter on training, and finally an SR-71 ask for the same.

Talk about shooting crazy high, a friend of mine got a revolver from his sister, whose deceased husband had it for shooting snakes at his island home. Sounds like it might be pretty high-falutin, huh?
this thing is some west german single-action look alike, except you can shoot it double action too. But you still have to load and unload out of a gate. So, it has a high front sight ramp, and a fixed rear, just like a snubby model 36 might have, but the groove gets higher and deeper towards the hammer. He lets me try it from 15 yds. Nothing on paper, and I had the front lined up with the top of the rear notch. I raise it a little, and shoot off some of the 2x4 framing for the targets! Turns out, you have to lower the point of aim so that the front sight is just a dot protruding from the bottom of the notch, which allow what you're shooting at to be framed by the goalpost-like rear notch. I told him it was interesting, but I sure the hell wouldn't want a gun like that. So he gave it to me. Posted by: OneEyedJack at August 28, 2015 09:54 PM (kKHcp) 256

The starter for the Blackbird had two 300 HP Buick engines powering it. You can see it and the SR-71 up close and free of charge at the Robins AFB Museum of Aviation next time you head down I-75 to Florida.

That was the ground starter. In-flight relighting involved triethylboron - spontaneously combustible under almost any condition. A job long ago, we used to get it in something that looked like a propane tank, but with a weird fitting, and cost 2000+$. Boo-coo scary stuff, though emptying the spent cylinders out back was fun nonetheless.

"Roman Prostitution Coins"
Wild Ass Guess - coins value was in the base metal, didn't matter where the coin was minted, these would be popular on the front lines with the troops on payday. Locals on the frontier may also be more receptive to the 'neutral' faces rather than having to look at your enemy on your money. Posted by: Burnt Toast at August 28, 2015 10:22 PM (NaeCR) 327
Thanks, rickl, that's the one.
This time I'll bookmark, & "save page". It should be true in a just and decent universe & I'll put my faith on that. Posted by: sock_rat_eez at August 28, 2015 10:24 PM (go6ud) 328

Posted by: sock_rat_eez at August 28, 2015 10:19 PM (go6ud) See this. The Saturn V and SpaceX's Falcon 9 both use it to ignite their main engines. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triethylborane#Rocket Watch the many SpaceX launch videos on YouTube, and in closeups you can clearly see a bright green flame immediately preceding main engine ignition. I've seen that green flame back by the loading dock. Posted by: sock_rat_eez at August 28, 2015 10:29 PM (go6ud) 330
willowed again.
I'll just mention that anyone who needs a good (2 millenia offset) view of Life in These Times should go buy a copy of The Satyricon by Petronius. per my inspection of roman prostitution coins. I think burnt toast has it about right; watch for these changes in our own "currency" RSN. Posted by: sock_rat_eez at August 28, 2015 10:35 PM (go6ud) 331
