I'm a news junkie with a particular focus on military, geopolitical stuff. I read feeds, scan headlines, go deeper on some articles, ignore others...that kind of thing. I have no super-seekrit government and/or military contacts aside from some old Army buddies who do defense contractor gigs.

A nobody from Nowhere, Indiana, I knew the Pentagon's glowingly positive reports on its ISIS campaignwere bullshit months ago. What the Obama Administration has been doing re ISIS is a simulacrum, an illusion of action, and that's been clear to anyone with an attention span for quite some time. If the military has been over-optimistic in its reports and analyses, then lower-level Pentagon (and probably CIA) analysts have been doing it under pressure from higher.

Assad has less than half his army left. He's about ready to fall. When that happens--probably within a few months at most--ISIS will swarm all over what was once Syria.Calling what's about to happen a 'humanitarian disaster' is an understatement. Obama will pretend surprise and point to his 'faulty intelligence', and continue to do nothing.

I don't know how much interest ISIS actually has in Damascus. I think it's possible for Assad to hole up for the time being.

ISIS is looking toward Mecca, Medina, and Al Quds (Jerusalem) to fulfill their religious prophecies.

Not sure which one they're go for first.

But why waste the man power going door to door through shia neighborhoods to get to Damascus (or Baghdad for that matter) when they're of little strategic value.
