Good morning, loin-girders.
As to Peter Cushing, I think this kind of thing may not bode well for the Screen Actors Guild. Then again, something like 97% of its members are consistently unemployed in that profession most of the time anyway. Posted by: J.J. Sefton at August 23, 2015 06:19 AM (St6BJ) 6

Grand Moff Tarkin. Is that like some sort of, for lack of a better word, "homage" to the Grand Mufti? Episode 1's flying, hook-nosed, Yiddish-accented money-grubbing slave trader would seem to indicate it. Although Tarkin is one of the bad guys. Posted by: J.J. The Kentucky GOPs central committee voted Saturday to adopt a presidential caucus system next year, clearing the way Republican Sen. Rand Paul to run for president and reelection at the same time. Paul has pledged to pick up the tab for holding the caucuses, which could run $500,000 or more. The motion to adopt a caucus system was approved on the condition that Paul transfer $250,000 to a state GOP account next month. Switching to a caucus system would not allow Paul to run for president and for reelection at the same time in the general election. Politico So Paul is just running for -- giggles. Posted by: Laurie David's Cervix at August 23, 2015 06:23 AM (kdS6q) I've been done with Luap the Lesser for quite a while. Supporting Yertle McCoscksickle was bad enough, but then blaming America for the creation of ISIS was just the bitter end. And now that Walker is going "hummina, hummina, hummina," on the cut and dry issue of birthright citizenship, he is now officially gone from my boat. That said, I really would like to start seeing the stooge candidates like Lindsay, Itch-Kase, Krispy Kreosote and Phleb Bush fall away. At least 3 will be in all the way and if Trump is gone, they GOP-e will try and pull some sort of phony rule change shit at the convention. I have no doubt that they are plotting even now to fuck with the primaries. This is one reason why Trump's presence is rather helpful. Posted by: J.J. Sefton at August 23, 2015 06:38 AM (St6BJ) 12

You will disincentivize those wanting to come here and really force those that are here to get out. That said, my answer these days to leftists is, "okay, they're coming here and want to stay here. Why? could it be that their own countries are failed states? Isn't it cruel and unjust that they should have to uproot themselves and start over in a foreign country; one that is racist/sexist/misgynistiic/Islamophobic/homophobic too? How about we go down there, arm the "dreamers" to the teeth and use them as our army to annex their countries, remove their leaders, change their poetical system and fundamentally transform them so that they don't have to leave?" **Crickets** Posted by: J.J. A charity fun run that invited men to dress up as women is being investigated by police after a transgender charity claimed the dress code constituted a hate crime. Officers were asked to look into the 'Dames on the Run' race - where men run dressed as women to raise funds for a children's hospice - by a transsexual support group. Chrysalis Transsexual Support Groups say the five kilometre run, organised by Derian House Children's Hospice, in Chorley, Lancashire, is "dehumanising". They are now attempting to stop the run, due to take place in October, which raises money to support the hospice that looks after sick and terminally ill children. http://tinyurl.com/p26kwfd Posted by: Laurie David's Cervix at August 23, 2015 06:58 AM (kdS6q) 28

Posted by: Chi-Town Jerry at August 23, 2015 06:59 AM (UpGcq) Israel is capable of some amazing things. Off the top of my head, the Soviets had given Egypt their latest radar system, so the Mossad/Sayeret Matkal sent a team across the border, took out the guards, dismantled the station and then sent it back to Israel. They also commandeered some very advanced attack boats in a French port that were destined for the Egyptian Navy. Not saying they can do this, but who knows? I'd say it is a fair bet that as we speak, Israel will ramp up it's clandestine activity to a level just short of open war, and maintain it as long as possible to try and a) slow Iran down until January 2017 and b) prepare the battlespace ahead of any attack. The drudge link to WND is a pretty good story, and while trying to explain why
kelley lost to Trump, it also inadvertently shows why everyone running will lose to Trump. He is fighting by different rules, and they aren't allowed to: "Yet, when set against the unadulterated masculine intellectual powers and cunning of Donald Trump, it was not a fair fight. She was overpowered to the point of speechlessness and had to take a 10-day vacation to lick her wounds. When the ladies operate within a protective penumbra of political correctness in a highly feminized culture of girly men, it is pretty easy to win intellectual pillow fights."" I am reading a very long and excellent biography of Calvin Coolidge by Amity Shales and I have decided Coolidge was one of our greatest and most underrated Presidents. He had the tragedy of having his son die while he was in office. After playing tennis Calvin got a blister on his foot which turned into sepsis and killed him a week later. Calvin Coolidge had been a church goer but his faith seemed to become increasingly important to him after Calvin's death. The biographer notes:
Protecting the space that faith enjoyed in American culture, the realm of the spiritual seemed to him especially. In those early days after Calvin's death he had refused many appointments, but had agreed to talk to a group of Boy Scouts in a telephone hookup. "It is hard to se4e how a great man can be an atheist," Coolidge told the boys. "We need to feel behind us is intelligence and love." Now as he was preparing a speech for the dedication of a statue of a Methodist Bishop, Francis Asbury: In that speech he wanted to his conviction that government's power, since the days of Jonathan Edwards, had derived from religion and not the other way around. (And JTR posting, this is no reflection of anyone here who is an Atheist. I just think in the case of Coolidge his faith informed his life. Barack Obama has no God but himself, I think. Bernie Sanders' god seems to be the socialist state. Obama is hardly a great man. I don't know about Sanders but his political "theology" is scary. Neither of them want religion to be part of public life as far as I can tell. Maybe we should asking the Presidents who were great men and who believed in God to pray for us and for our nation. Not to be bastard, but several of my family and many of my friends are military, and went embedded with muslim troops who fought and died beside them in Afghanistan and Iraq. I hope the "muzzie" thing dies very fast, its still a battle between modernity and the old ways, not a clash of civilizations and WW3.

Trump has picked the one issue that resonates with a great many people and one that cuts across parties lines and ideological groups.
I'll say it again his H1b position has all the tech heads a flutter at slashdot which is a hive of de rigueur progressivism. It resonates with Democrat constituencies, blacks have been taking in the shorts during this invasion. I truly believe if he can tighten up his rhetoric and bring on some heavy hitters like Mike Rowe and other he could win in a land slide. I think he could even win PA and NY with his bring manufacturing back home message. The dude seems like he's going to the mattresses and is going to steam roll anyone who is in his way. This is the country that has "human rights commissions." You should look up the Ezra Levant/Mark Steyn/Maclean's Magazine incident.
Posted by: J.J. Sefton at August 23, 2015 07:32 AM (St6BJ) I do know about it. Steyn explains it a lot. And I saw a video of Ezra secretly(?) recording his sessions with them. The commission felt very fascist. It was creepy. They have an agenda, and it is NOT human rights. It is stifling them. Posted by: artisanal 'ette at August 23, 2015 07:39 AM (qCMvj) 81

Posted by: Skip at August 23, 2015 07:20 AM (2jtuf) here is the link The Quiet Revolution: How the New Left Took Over the Democratic Party http://bit.ly/1U828Pq excerpt: What's remarkable is how the political and cultural center of American values has collapsed in the last two and a half decades with the Democratic Party having moved dramatically to the left. Recently, Democratic National Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz could not explain the difference between the modern Democratic Party platform and that of socialism, while at the same time gushing over the prospect of Socialist Bernie Sanders having a prominent place at the 2016 Democratic Party convention. If people today could somehow be transported back to the time of Harry Truman and Jack Kennedy, they would swear those standard bearers were Republicans with little in common with today's Democratic Party. This is what I think Trump is resonating. I repeat myself, but he acts like an old NY Democrat, but the Democrats are so far left, he seems conservative in some aspects. The Saudis Reply to Iran's Rising Danger An influential Saudi former military commander on making common cause with Israel and warming toward Russia as the U.S. backs away. ... "The main project between me and Dore Gold is to bring peace between Arab countries and Israel," he says. "This is personal, but my government knows about the project. My government isn't against it, because we need peace. For that reason, I found Dore Gold. He likes his country. I like my country. We need to profit from each other." Jerusalem and Riyadh, he says, are two powers that "don't want trouble in the region." Initially, the focus was on the Palestinian question. "We didn't talk much about Iran at first," Gen. Eshki recalls, "but I found that our idea and their idea was close together against Iran. We don't like Iran to destabilize the area. We don't like for Iran to attack Israel and destroy Israel. And we also don't like for Israel to attack Iran and destroy Iran. This is my idea. He has another idea. But we are together." For Israel, the immediate Iranian-caused headache is Hezbollah, the Lebanese-Shiite terror outfit that points tens of thousands of missiles at the Jewish state. Gen. Eshki recalls once asking Mr. Gold, " 'When you attack Hezbollah, does Iran interfere?' He answered, 'No.' " A follow-up: "If you attack Iran, will Hezbollah support Iran?" The Israeli answered: "Yes." Gen. Eshki's conclusion: "Israel is thinking first of all to destroy Hezbollah, to solve the problem with Hezbollah. After that they can attack Iran." http://on.wsj.com/1h5FDOy first I heard that Posted by: artisanal 'ette at August 23, 2015 08:05 AM (qCMvj) 99

30 What galls me most is that we have so cracked this code but that they are either a) unaware or worse b) know it and do this shit anyway. No reason really to do the latter since we are powerless to stop them anyway.
I don't see it quite that way. We *have* cracked the code and our eyes are open now. An awful lot of people relize the GOPe is basically allied with the Dems on many issues. Some people, like Schlichter, are advocating conservatives take over the GOP the way progtards did the Dems. Others are content to simply watch it burn. Either way, I believe (and hope) we're hearing the death rattle of the GOPe in this election. Many of us simply refuse to support Bush or Rubio. Right now, Trump's 20-ish percent in the polls is more of a protest vote than enthusiastic pro-Trump voters, but the longer he holds on and avoids setting himself on fire, the more likely his numbers will go up and voters will begin to identify with him. The GOP will be forced to choose between living with Trump *and his anti-GOPe supporters* or facing a beating at the polls unlike any they've seen in the last 40 years. Either way, we win. If Trump wins, we get immigration control and the GOPe is beaten. If there's no Trump and the GOPe loses like the Dems did in 1984, the GOPe is burned to the ground and Allen can go scatter the stones, and you can bring the kosher salt, JJ. This is not the time to go wobbly. Posted by: Agent J at August 23, 2015 08:12 AM (ueOgE) 109

Still fascinates me that the "elites" don't see that a primary reason they are allowed to retain their positions as "elites" is that we are still pretty much a civil society adhering to a common sense framework of laws, Firthermore, it should be clear to them that such a framework is maintained only if a substantial majority of the population accepts these laws as valid and as being part of a common culture where you know what to expect from your fellow
To paraphrase a Reagan thought, mankind is inherently tribal, the question is which tribe are they going to want to belong to. It used to be that we had no problem with immigrants coming to this country because they wanted to belong to "our" tribe and would assimilate to do so. Now, the "elites" have foisted "illegal" and H1B immigration upon us where the immigrants not only do not want to join our tribe, they despise our tribe, and expect us to accept their tribal practices, languages, and laws and customs. And yet, the GOP DC Establishment Cartel cannot imagine why any voters would seriously listen to Trump. Posted by: Hrothgar at August 23, 2015 08:13 AM (ftVQq) 111

The real clue that we have passed the tipping point will be when the signs at Home Depot are in Spanish, Arabic, and English (and in that order) Posted by: Hrothgar Back when I took Arabic language courses at UGA, a casual conversation with one of the Arabic program's professors strayed from issues of political and religious import toward matters of international marketing. "The Home Depot," he informed me, translated into Arabic, is pronounced Al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda literally means "Home Base." And without a more appropriate translation for the word "depot," Al-Qaeda suddenly becomes more than just a threat to the free world ... it's also America's number one Do-It-Yourself warehouse! www.fightboredom.net/2008_06_01_archive.html Posted by: Laurie David's Cervix at August 23, 2015 08:57 AM (kdS6q) 160
This post should've included the "girding your loins" graphic from the ONT weeks back.
Of course, that would've required Krak to do some digging on a Sunday morning. ![]() Posted by: mindful webworker - what's all this about gilded lions? at August 23, 2015 08:57 AM (IlQaj) 161
I see you haven't been to an HD in Fairfax or PW counties...
Posted by: anon a mouse at August 23, 2015 08:47 AM (C9pBZ) Seen the burkhas there, just not the Arabic signage (yet). I hate having to learn Spanish so I can buy a 2"x4"x8' Posted by: Hrothgar at August 23, 2015 08:58 AM (ftVQq) 162

Oh hell, there was a woman in a niqab (headscarf with lower-face veil) at my exurban town park the other day. Was chasing around about eight kids while her husband sat in a chair glaring at the infidels.
I guess they're done clustering in the city and moving out to the cornfields. Shorter drive to the terrorist-affiliated mosque in Plainfield. Posted by: HR trinken trinken trinken at August 23, 2015 09:05 AM (rHXGG) 169

Well, to each his own, I suppose. Politics will never done out in the open for everyone to see every aspect of every deal. And we all rely too much on other people to interpret things for us and tell us what they say (like TPP). Even the elected congressmen and senators themselves don't read the bills. So there will never be a candidate who I don't have anything against. But I can live with Cruz. Posted by: Sambo at August 23, 2015 09:05 AM (0Txm0) 170

George Will has burped forth another hand ringing article with regards to the GOP's demise if we don't allow millions upon millions of third world peasants into the country.
This would be the same bloc that we have 32+ years of hard data that shows they routinely vote 3:1 Democrat. Remember, George Will routinely bashed Reagan as too conservative and alienating in the 70's. In other words typical Will. Posted by: Kreplach at August 23, 2015 09:47 AM (WVvzl) 175

I read the vanished Weird Dave post. Nice.
Sayonara, Ace, 'rons and 'ronettes. I have respect bordering on awe for Ace's ability to maintain this little vortex in the maelstrom, but my own chaotic path leads elsewhere. As a nerd and a geek who never actually saw the elephant, it may suit me better -- I'm always a little abashed, here. May God cherish and protect our NCOs, and arrange for a good one to be standing armed behind each zampolit when That Day inevitably comes. Culture, it is said, is upstream of politics. I am become a vile faceless minion. The long counter-march is well begun. Luv ya, bye. Posted by: Oh Hell No =>VFM #0202 at August 23, 2015 01:24 PM (CKGil) 177
