26 Someone in the overnight had a good reposte to the notion of having to recognize children born to illegals as American.

If an invading army had amongst it's ranks, pregnant woman, and these woman delivered on american soil would we have to recognize the children as american citizens?

I would hope even the most die hard immigrationist would say this was a preposterous thing to even consider.

So it to would seem that illegal alien children should not be able to benifit from the poison fruit and be granted the boom of citizenship.

And another tack we could take, since the left loves mucking about with definitions, we could reclassify all illeagal aliens as ambassadors of their home countries and since the progeny of ambassadors are not confirred citizenship they can both be expelled.

27 Just another boring damn beautiful painting.

What's the matter with you, rd?

BTW: Can't help remembering a stop in a trucker's cafe along I-5 in Northern Cal many years ago. On the walls, they had velvet paintings for sale. Big ones. All night scenes of 18-wheelers roaring down the highway. With tiny grain-of-wheat bulbs worked into the velvet for headlights, clearance lights, and so forth.

They were perhaps the most hideous things I've ever seen. Gave me nightmares, all the way up to Seattle.

I have always berated myself for not buying at least one.

It will be refreshing to wake up in a country where a Republican President actually fights back when attacked, doesn't chase trailer trash whores, won't tell us to read his lips and then does the exact opposite and won't play the race card on every issue but will actually try to bring us together and tell you to get off your lazy ass and get to work.

As for Trump being for Statehood for DC... that affects me... how? I mean, sure, if DC became a State *that* would affect me, but that's not going to happen, so why do I care?

That's like telling me Trump is for mining the asteroid belt (except I think mining the asteroid belt would be a good thing). Sure, it's kind a cool and a little kooky, but it's not going to happen.

And "for single payer health care?" Yes, he was. He *claims* not to be- at least, not for the US. Other people get to change their minds based on new facts, why not Trump?

And if I'm going to disbelieve that Trump has "evolved" on the issue... well, let's just say there's not a whole lot of room for credulity left if I start judging people by their past statements/positions and not the ones they claim to hold. Why, someone might get the idea that the only viable option would be to burn the whole thing down, scatter the stones, and salt the earth where it stood.

If you're going to claim that Trump is *currently* for Single Payer (despite a cogent policy statement from him in the last few days showing/saying exactly the opposite), then you have to claim that no one has ever changed their position, and everything they say *now* which conflicts with what they said *then* must be a lie.

Obviously I don't think that's accurate (though, for the professional political class, it certainly doesn't miss the mark by much).

186 The party had prepared for the other candidates and laid traps to dilute their support. Trump biting off the big piece has up-ended that plan. He's got enough support that they can't overcome it.

Best case scenario is, Trump wipes the GOPe squishes from the field, leaving it clear for the small group of acceptable candidates. (Short of divine intervention in the form of a St. Paul moment where it winds up that, in fact, he really IS the Great Conservative Savior, which I lay at odds similar to those of me suddenly getting all of Soros' money, having a footrest made from his skull, and living out my days with a bevy of lovely ladies carrying out my household will and a legion of SEALS for everything else.)

While I disagree with your assertion, I should remind you that Trump, very much unlike Choom Boy, has never rhapsodized about the beauty of the Muzzie call to prayer, or aligned himself with Islamic terrorists (but I repeat myself) ahead of the American people.

If there is any component of racism in Trump's makeup, it pales (SWIDT?) in comparison to the Mocha Messiah's angry, divisive, race-baiting against the white people whose adoration he demands.

There are, to the best of my knowledge, no Rev. Wrights, Billy Ayerses or Rashid Khaledis in Trump's past. Nor does he despise the military and give aid and comfort to America's enemies.

I don't think it is nearly that cut and dried. It will clearly have some far-reaching negative effects, but it also has some very positive upsides - particularly for those who manage their personal finances strictly. When the average person's gas bill drops from $600 a month to $450, that is big. The fuel to transport all of our other goods dropping in price *may* help other goods come down in price as well.

296 In fairness to Bush, no conservative corner really saw any issues with Roberts (except Ann Coulter) Everyone, including Democrats, thought he was going to be a really conservative justice. And in the beginning, he was, giving all sorts of victories for the 2nd Amnedment and Free Speech

The Miers one was the one everyone freaked out about (and for good reason) which got us Scalia Jr with Alito.

Even RINO PResidents try, George HW Bush gave us Clarence Thomas.

I like my odds with a Republican President but I can also identify with the frustration. But I don't think more Left-wing, Democrat appointed justices are going to help us.

Sometimes I'm all "Trump, fcuk yeah!" because he treats the MSM like a boss and reveals what pussies the rest of the field are being, but I don't completely trust him, and his propensity to get in little tiff (Rosie, Megyn) is immature. He certainly is impressing me with who he is going to for advice, such as Sessions and Bolton. Better them than some squish GOP consultant.

It was more a revelation than it was an event itself. What it showed is that Republicans who are defeated throw in the towel. As opposed to Democrats, who are never defeated, only slowed down.

In a way, you have to admire the Democrats. They believe what they believe, and will stop at nothing to get it. It's not unlike the Soviets. They were relentless, even when the West was dilly dallying around with "fighting communism."

They spread it everywhere, and even long after the alleged death of the Soviet Union, it thrives in its various forms, all around the globe. Including here in the good ol' US of A.

352 Serious question:

Could Trump flip NY to the GOP?

In the electoral college for presidential elections, there is a pre-existing field of "gimme" states that are considered absolute locks for one party or the other. The GOP gets much of the south and the interior west, and the Dems get the Pacific coast and the upper Atlantic and a few others.

This leaves only something like 17 states ever ever in play any more.

HOWEVER...Trump is from New York and has like a 100% name recognition there. This hugely works in his favor, even if NY is considered a "lock" for the Dems in presidential races. Name recognition is the main portion of the struggle to get votes.

A similar principle happened where Arnold Schwarztenegger won the CA governorship, despite being a Republican in a state that was by then considered solid left-leaning deep blue -- unflippable.

But if Trump flips NY, the Dems' chance of keeping the White House suddenly crumble to almost nil.

New York and California are the linchpins of he Dem road to the White House every four years. They start with those two gimmes, both of which are HUGE electorally, and only have to add a few on top to win the White House.

Without NY in the bag, the Dems would have to win several nearly impossible solid GOP states, to make up the deficit. Which ain't gonna happen.

So, as unenthused as I am about Trump, this fact does pique my interest in his candidacy.

Has there been any polling in NY state about his popularity there?

Does it cover the new Open Carry stuff

2016 - 2017. I'd say yes. In the Preface they speak of changing the terminology from CHL to LTC. (License To Carry)

364 Could Trump flip NY to the GOP?

Possible on the order of a blizzard in Dallas in April.

However, what he should be able to do is make it competitive enough that Democrats have to spend money there (and in other Liberal strongholds), meaning that purple states will be more gettable.

366 Lower fuel prices would mean Europe is booming

Nope. No it's not

China, a big buyer of fuel, booming?

Nope, devaluing their currency. Might do it again

Lower oil prices do not always mean boom

That's a trickier wicket than most believe; they can do anything with it without fucking themselves over.

If they try to sell it off precipitously, prices fall, yield rises, and the yuan rises; making it pointless to sell more in the face of wanted yuan inflation.

Yes, nood.

I'm totally unfamilia with the weather patterns of Dallas. Does that phrase mean "highly likely" or "highly UNlikely"?

374 They are talking 30 dollar a barrel oil. People think that sounds good. That actually means mass layoffs, lack of production, and economy in free fall

aka, Burning Times.

I was in the oil business when oil went to $6/bbl
1986 was not a good year for anyone.

375 In my family, we measure the size of a car's trunk by the number of bodies it will hold. It's a family joke. When my daughter was getting ready to buy her first brandnew car, she was all excited, told me it was a two-body, maybe even a three.

My first car, (72 Merc Grand Marquis), could hold a squad, maybe a platoon if laid out carefully.

376 We had $15 oil in the late 90s. Not the end of the world.

Just a dumb outlook

First of all, just 15 years plus of inflation makes that number meaningless

Saudi Arabia is wiping out American jobs and producers because it wants its pricing power back. this could easily throw us in a nasty recession and make it so banks will never fund domestic drilling again

This is about SA putting competitors under so they can jack up the price till it hurts and have more influence in global events. Not good

377 Could Trump flip NY to the GOP?

Posted by: zombie

The much bigger factor about why Trump could make a play for "blue" states is the fact that he's "very, very" pro-choice.

That's really what this comes down to in many blue states.

If you had a pro-choice, pro gay marriage Republican that was a border hawk, it would be an interesting coalition.
