3 Can I put this up again since fate, maybe fortune, willowed me in the last thread?

Sometimes I dupe myself into believing I actually have something meaningful to say. Forgive me.

In my weak minded opinion, people still don't quite get why Trump is winning. They still don't quite get why even they find themselves liking him. I really don't even Trump himself yet knows and if anything stops him, it will be that lack of realization.

People, including Trump I think, believe this is all about his having tapped into the problem with illegal immigration. Certainly, there is some of that. But what people are sick of is all the fake-ass party politics.

Parties that tell them what the issues are and what they need to believe about those issues. Issues that are minor, at best, but are what ultimately become the basis of elections.

Both parties have played this game for decades and have had the electorate eating out of their hands.

But the odd thing about living in the information age is that some people thought they could control information, that they could take the truth - and the untruth out of it - and make it mean whatever they wanted. Global warming becomes climate change when the data fails to cooperate. Corruption become crony capitalism. Eighteen trillion in debt becomes illegal immigrants coming to this country illegally as an act of love.

People, being not stupid - not in the absolute sense anyway, caught on.

Ergo Trump.

Trump can keep this going if he realizes this.

Posted by: Bat Chain Puller at August 21, 2015 09:16 AM (SCcgT)

Being Canadian, and therefore subjected to five years of high school French, at which I did quite well, here goes:

Voila (and voici) are demonstratives. I guess they are adverbs. They literally mean "see there" and "see here". The "voi" portion, spoken in French, sounds like "vwah", as spoken in English. And the "v" part can be pretty subtle, so "wala" can be a pretty close approximation (spoken wah lah).

"Voila!" on its own is sort of similar to "behold!"

93 The cheaters, the hackers and the blackmailers-all have repellent ethics but let's dispense with the fiction that it's like all other dating sites.

It's not a widespread fiction, it's just me. I looked around on Ashley Madison last year when I was heartbroken and thought some fresh sex would make me feel better. I have a, let's say, nuanced view of fidelity. For young couples I'd call it morally wrong to go after the wife. If you're 40+ or 50+ and your husband isn't bringing it, well that's on him.

So my point about AM was that it didn't seem (through what's available without paid membership) to include a lot of that demographic. It was mostly girls who wanted sugar daddies or girls who wanted meaningful long term walks on the beach.

I got what I wanted on match dot com and it turned out to not be what I needed.

Noonan excerpt:

As for the Trump phenomenon, a lot of people are still digesting it. The question has evolved from "Will he have an impact?" to "Can he really win the nomination?" to "Could he actually be elected president?" Philip Klein in the Washington Examiner had a smart piece suggesting Mr. Trump may have reached his peak; assuming his lead holds, it will seem less impressive as candidates begin to drop out and others consolidate their positions. That is possible, as is this: that as people watch Mr. Trump and get used to the idea of him they'll come to see things they like in his candidacy. No one knows, because we're in new territory, with a rogue real-estate developer and reality-TV star as a prime presidential prospect.

more Noonan

A source of Mr. Trump's strength is that normal people understand how big donors have an impact on policy. Mr. Trump can stand where the people stand on such issues as immigration because the donor class doesn't have hooks in him. "I'm turning down so much money," he told reporters last week at the Iowa State Fair. If he accepted a big contribution, "I'd feel obligated, because I'm a loyal person." On the other hand, "Jeb Bush is a puppet to his donors." On Thursday this newspaper's Heather Haddon reported that some major GOP donors are growing impatient with GOP candidates who've withdrawn their support for Common Core. But Common Core is not popular, and they are trying to survive. I remember when donors just wanted dinner, or an ambassadorship. Now they want policy. Someone, not just Mr. Trump, should bop them hard.

Trump's "loyalty" statement is powerful. He's smarter than CK et al give him credit for.

This is the problem the DOPe has. If they run against teh Donald, then they prove to us that they're not in it for Conservatism, but for their own power, and most of them can't convincingly run a campaign which attempts to co-opt his positions.

They burned a lot of bridges behind them with the 2014 election cycle, and with their constant capitulations to the SCOAMT.

If they come out hard against Trump, just about everyone to the right of JeffB will see it for what it is: hatred toward the interloper, not any kind of principle. If they try to co-opt him, just about everyone to the right of JeffB will also see that for what it is: pure political opportunism with as much principle behind it as a wet fart. Less, maybe.

107 The four-acre site features the abandoned Mary Leila Cotton Mill, which produced sheeting until the early 2000s. Looking like a ghostly fortress, the 135,000-square-foot building with turrets and a water tower was covered in lead-based paint that flaked off and covered the grounds along with ash produced by its coal-burning generators. High levels of cancer-causing chemicals, such as benzo(a)pyrene, are also buried there. And neighboring farmers dumped pesticides on the vacant grounds back when arsenic was used to kill bugs.

The Environmental Protection Agency has denied -- but now admits -- that it funded the cleanup and development project the triggered the catastrophe.

This is a major problem with having a government monopoly on education. The parents have virtually no input, the children certainly have no input, and everyone else is just trying to get as much money as they can.

That last part should be expected- self-interest is a major part of the human condition. But when only one half of the equation (the supplier) gets to pursue their self-interest, and the other half (the consumer) is locked in, you get this kind of corruption.

157 Why does the CoC support illegal immigration instead of the entitlement reform route? Are those malignant fucks *trying* to destroy this country?

Because money is fungible. They don't care if the people padding their bottom line are from here or not. They don't care if people legally here can afford their sh*t or not - as long as *someone* can. So for them, the "depressed wages" is a much better ROI.

It kills me lately when people refer to illegal aliens as criminals, the response from the defenders is invariably, "It's just a misdemeanor".

And further, if illegals get off scott free for misdemeanors, does that mean I can. Can I park wherever the hell I want to with no repercussions?

Rhetorical - but dammit - why? Why is it rhetorical? Why do the laws only apply to an ever shrinking number of people? This my friends, is the "fairness" the left sought to impose on us.

174 Last night, Aslan's Girl made a point about Trump that really resonated with me. She was enjoying/admiring the fact that Trump makes her laugh, and explained it very well. While I had thought of this before, her comments (especially when added to by a few others) brought it all into clarity.

Trump is having a helluva good time out there, facin' the folks, pressin' the flesh and lobbing volleys back at the MFM. The man really enjoys working a room!

What his detractors fail to understand is that he is serious about the job, but willing to treat himself lightly. Not for him the scowling would-be "statesmanship" the Elite Political Consultants and the eunuchs of the tighty-righty media insist on. He knows both supporters and detractors take notice when he holds his book up to the camera before autographing it. He also knows the former will get a laugh from it, while the latter will soil their shorts.

I think the last candidate I can remember really having fun hunting votes was...hell, I can't think of one. Not one.

Some people -- I'm one -- see the seriousness of purpose. He knows what's wrong and, as he has done when handed a failing building to renovate, he will go about it with tenacity and skill. Some people -- I'm also one -- see him doing a skillful vodvil act to entertain the people.

The EEs, Poppin' Freshes, NROistas and Wick Rilsons can't see that the two extremes can coexist. Too bad for them.

Anyway, y'all support who y'all support. Right now, I'm leaning Trumpward, and have no fear that if elected he'd be both fun to watch and damn good for the country. Better, IMO, than the rest of the Unsmiling 17.

The Chamber of Cocks doesn't think they're destroying the country. The dynamic at play is that domestic BIG business can't grow fast enough to meet earnings estimates. There aren't enough eager consumers. Native born aren't reproducing fast enough. (Additionally, the products of conception market is booming). And, as the economy wakes up little by little, the cost of labor increases. So, hey, import a shit load of low-skilled "workers," and presto: wages are depressed, and government dole money spends the same as earned income. Growth!!

Well, nothing else they've said has worked. They're flailing. Also: failing.

And I kind of get it. Their fortunes are tied to those of the DOPe in many ways. It's one thing to be in the minority against Democrats - you can always rail against them and their policies, and Conservatives will cheer you on when you do so. It's something else to be in the minority against Conservatives. Then your favored policies are still not taking hold AND when you complain about "those nasty conservatives," your paying audience dries up.

Someone like Cruz or Walker... well, they can work with them. However anti-establishment they may be, they still need the support of the rest of the party. They can only be *so* rebellious.

Someone like Trump, though? Someone who came in as a known former Democrat? Someone whose campaign was basically "F*ck You, pay me?" How do they work with that? And if Trump does end up President, and the DOPe suddenly opposes him... well, after 8 years of capitulating to TFG, it will absolutely destroy the party.

236 Vargas demonstrates exactly what is wrong with amnesty and turning a blind eye to the crime committed by illegals by entering the country uninvited: it naturally leads to other crimes, regardless of whether they are committing them in order to remain undetected of join a community. They have to use fake or stolen identity documents, they have to lie on legal documents, they may take jobs for cash under the table which bypasses paying taxes, they drive without a license and/or insurance, etc.

And that just assumes they *want* to abide by our laws, which is a big assumption given that they've already willingly broken the laws mentioned above - why would they magically then respect and follow other laws?

Naturally, they (the criminal defenders) impose - by some sort of usurpation of power that lefties seem to have by... magic - a limit on the discussion to just illegal entry into the country. Discussion of subsequent criminal activity is verboten.

So would I. But it would have to be someone who does what he does better than he does, and has the positives I attribute to him in greater quantity than he does.

That leaves out every other candidate, no matter which party.

Got any suggestions?

256 So misdemeanors aren't crimes anymore. Who knew.

For lucky US Citizens, in some states certain types of misdemeanors, or even the accusation or suspicion of those misdemeanors, or being the subject of a restraining order -whether filed legitimately or punitively - is enough to have your 2nd Amendment rights removed.

Meanwhile, brave undocumented workers never carry firearms, nor commit crimes with those firearms that they don't carry. But of course, we can't seem to find the moxie to show these ill-behaved guests the door.

257 Last millennium, back when we lived in Chicago, the oldies station did a weekend countdown of the top gazillion oldies.

We were gathered 'round the radio when it finally came time to see what they thought was #1. And with much drumroll and drama, the DJ spun up "Red Rubber Ball."

Ha ha, they scratched that after the first chorus, and put on the real #1, whatever it was, long forgotten.

But I've had "Red Rubber Ball" stuck in my head ever since. Worst. Brain. Worm. Ever.

It's not really a bad song. Think it's gonna be all right, yeah, the worst is over now. They just shouldn't have recorded it with the "placeholder" lyric. The morning sun is shining like... ANYTHING BUT THAT!

I no longer believe it to be benign responses. They know what the grassroots want. Their job is to not give it to them. Their aspirations are not "our" aspirations. They are for the party apparatus. They are not for American individualism and empowerment.

Once you recognize the enemy, everything makes more sense. Occasionally interests coincide, but most of the time, they don't. Their job is to create the illusion of common interest. Mostly, it's a lie.
