Starting late Wednesday, pedestrians going to Tijuana from San Diego at the San Ysidro crossing must choose between a line for Mexicans who get waved through, and a line for foreigners who must show a passport, fill out a form and - if staying more than a week - pay 322 pesos, or roughly $20, for a six-month permit.

Here's my Iowa State Fair report for Fenelon: The fair was great! The best part was the Ultimate Bacon Brisket Bomb: http://is.gd/i4tSZB but the craft beer tent was great, too. The worst part was it was really hot and humid and the youngest nephew kind of melted down about mid-afternoon so they had to leave early. We skipped all the political stuff. We saw cameras and state troopers and I thought I saw Gov. Branstad, but I couldn't see who they were with. Later learned the only candidate who was there the day I was was Guliani. I'd definitely shake his hand sometime if the opportunity presents, but maybe not wait in the hot sun to not see him over the people in front of me. There are so many beautiful places in NY. It's tragic that it's run by shit-heads.
Posted by: HR braucht ein Bier at August 20, 2015 10:19 AM (/kI1Q) -------------- No shit. Though DeBlasio only rules NYC, he acts like the State is his bitch. While I am not a fan of Cuomo, Cuomo has told DeBlasio to GFH several times, particularly over charter schools. I shudder at the thought of DeBlasio in any office higher than mayor, he has already screwed NYC up and seems content to keep screwing it up until it resembles Detroit on a bad day. You forgot, what's the term? Porn buddy? - Long ago, in another millennium, one of the most active regular commenters on CompuServe Religion Forum was a certain elderly Texas Baptist preacher (also AF vet and scientist). One day, he went dark. Then, after a few weeks, he showed up again, more powered to preach than ever, I noticed. Then suddenly he disappeared again, and we got one last sad message from his account, his daughter announcing that he had died. He'd never said a word about his health, but obviously that last burst was him doing his gospel best on his way out. You are not forgotten, Dr Jerry. Speaking of automatic citizenship....I found out that Nicole Kidman was born in the US. Her parents were in Hawaii as students, she gets born, presto US citizenship. While this doesn't get a lot of press, there are thousands of babies born to foreigners who are in the country legally, but only temporarily, and they are citizens. That should end as well. Plus there's an entire industry of Asian women flying to the west coast or Hawaii, at about 8 months pregnant, for the sole purpose of popping the kid out on US soil.

Watkins Glen was an object lesson in just why you don't put race courses in the middle of lovely scenic areas. In the early 70's, it got real Woodstocky there.
M.I.S. is in the beautiful Irish Hills (kind of like a "finger lake region" IYKWIM) of SE Michigan, and for most of a race week it gets ugly as hell. Summit Point WV, just about 50 miles from DC, is very nice country. But to get there from Ahia, you have to go through Maryland. And you'll get a ticket. Come to think on it, Mid-Ohio is interesting. Real close to the ridge that separates the part of Ohio that's really New England from the part that's really Indiana. Plan on camping though; it's two hours from anywhere. When you are done subtracting the parts of Ohio that are really PA, IN, KY and WV, there's not much left. And I'm in the part that's really Michigan. Doubly cursed, you might say. I have found more and more people cant be bothered with what at one time was considered decent human behavior. As note, when someone is sick or died, you inform people. Then again, back in the day, Indianapolis was considered a real nice place to visit.
In May. If you have some old maps and a lot of patience, it's possible to travel the whole path of I-75 on Old Dixie Highways. Like driving state routes in the West, it's a real revelation on the history of road building. Until WV finished it's turnpike, they used to boast of the beauty of driving their back roads. But they were front roads then. Of course, the real center of the US is near Lima, Ohio, where Dixie Highway crosses the Lincoln. Both built with no federal funds. Crapo Durant, Chambers of Commerce, Old Hank and his arm-twistin' camper buddies, yes, but no actual US taxpayer funds. Posted by: Stringer Davis at August 20, 2015 11:02 AM (xq1UY) 200

Decent numbers for Rubio. The Q-Pac poll practically screams, 'Rubio posed to make a major move upward', but when?!? My guess: after the South Carolina primary. Rubio has a strong organization in SC and FL borders SC. I suspect Rubio finishes top-4 in Iowa, top three in NH, wins SC, and that finally pushes him into front-runner status, which he keeps for the remainder of the campaign.
Rubio really is in a great spot. He is the favorite-second choice for almost all voters. That means Rubio merely needs to wait for other candidates to drop-out or falter, and the wandering GOP voters should gravitate towards Rubio. Posted by: Greymarch at August 20, 2015 11:20 AM (cojlL) 254

Now if you are from TX, I'm not saying you are a bad person or your state is a bad place to live or in any way insulting you. Hmmm, I-10 or I-20, that's a tough one. When I go up to New Jersey to see relatives, it is always a surprise that you can go through/to a few states in a relatively short time. I'm at least six plus hours to drive out of Texas in any direction except the coast, that's only about 3 1/2 or so depending on where on the coast line you go. South Padre is about 6 hours. @410
Mark Levin had an actual constitutional scholar on last evening and they had the definitive conversation with regards birthright citizenship, long story short, birthright citizenship is not part of the constitution nor contained in the 14th amendment, there have been no SCOTUS cases dealing with this specific issue, there was a case in 1898 but is not germaine in this case. Basically the concept of birth right citizenship as we currently know it was burped out of the federal beuracracy because the scholar has scoured case and cannot find it. Constitutionally, congress has plenury power over matters of immigration and naturalization so they can define citizenship and who can receive it. So no, we do not need a constitutional amendment to end birth right citizenship for illegal aliens. If you can find the audio it's a fascinating listen. Mark Levin had an actual constitutional scholar on last evening and they had the definitive conversation with regards birthright citizenship, long story short, birthright citizenship is not part of the constitution nor contained in the 14th amendment, I get what people say when they argue this, but the fact is the 14th amendment is incredibly poorly written and should never have passed as is. Every conservative ever has always argued for plain reading of the constitution, and plain reading of the 14th amendment does indeed say birthright citizenship is the law of the land. It wasn't meant to, but then it wasn't meant to say two dudes could get married, either. Posted by: Christopher Taylor at August 20, 2015 12:22 PM (39g3+) 466

Yup.... just like DUAL citizenship... which was created by the Courts who did NOT have Jurisdiction to decide the question (under the Constitution).... Its amazing how often Power is wielded by those who do not have the Legal authority to do so... and how often that changes how all of us are supposed to live. So no, we do not need a constitutional amendment to end birth right citizenship for illegal aliens.
Posted by: Kreplach So many applicable laws, so little application. Pretty much every aspect of immigration is addressed thoroughly in Naturalization and Immigration laws on the books. Uberliberal Immigration judges have legislated from the bench for far too long. Enforcement First. Posted by: some random meathead at August 20, 2015 12:25 PM (HJqXj) 472

And yet so many people think they remember seeing Bush Sr. amazed w/a grocery scanner even though there was no photo or film of the event, only a single pool report that was retold incorrectly to make him look like a doof (when it was really new tech - when scanners were updated to do weighing, etc.) Posted by: Lizzy at August 20, 2015 12:25 PM (NOIQH) 473
Apropos of nothing, my flapper guy is out this week so I am receiving the raw feed of "action items". I really appreciate his ability to convert this incomplete gibberish into quantified requests. So many items that consist of 'someone somewhere needs something', followed a few hours later by queries as to the progress of the earlier informationless request.

One there is no case law dealing with the question so there's that. Two Levin read the statements from the Republican Senator who wrote the 14th amendment and he explained the purposes of the monitor. Hey here's a fun fact, did you know the 14th amendment doesn't confer citizenship to native Americans. That was accomplished by laws passed by congress after passage of the 14th You do not know what your talking about. Your spitting out talking points. Jimmeh Carter having cancer sucks, but is it really, profoundly tragic?
Cancer is a disease of old age. A five year-old getting leukemia is a tragedy. An otherwise healthy young athlete like Mario Lemieux or Eric Berry getting cancer is tragic. But a nonagenarian getting cancer? Shitty, but not a tragedy. Posted by: logprof at August 20, 2015 12:34 PM (vsbNu) 489

Two Levin read the statements from the Republican Senator who wrote the 14th amendment and he explained the purposes of the monitor.
Sure, like I said, it wasn't intended to do what it plainly does in its language. The 14th amendment is garbage. It needs to be repealed and re-written. As it stands right now, the way its worded, it negates all kinds of long-standing laws such as the entire concept of limiting laws for children such as drinking and driving ages. There probably ought not be birthright citizenship, but that's what the amendment says. There's an easy way to fix that which would not require a constitutional amendment, of course. As a multi tour Vietnam veteran, I have no sympathy for Jimmah Cartah. After the war and loss of 58,000 men who honorably answered the call to duty, Cartah took it upon himself to pardon thousands of evaders who refused the call to service and escaped to Canada and Europe to avoid serving their nation. Jimmah will go to his death with this shameful disparagement of the brave and honorable young men who answered the call. Jimmah is a disgrace to those lost in battle. Good by Jimmah and good riddance. Posted by: Doctor Fish at August 20, 2015 12:40 PM (OiFtZ) 493
