Which is absolutely, inarguably, 100% true.
And what has Luntz really done in his career to make him the go-to focus grouping guy? He came up with "death tax" instead of "estate tax" back in the 90s (IIRC). That's it. Yay for him.
Luntz and his ilk are the ones who essentially craft all of the messages R pols use. They don't have a good track record of coming up with good messaging, I'd say.

He is not behaving as predicted by the MFM and the Establishment, which is having a salutary effect on the process.

In fact, Penn & Teller did an episode featuring him on their show Bullshit! and Luntz basically joked about how his use of phrasing in a question can get him whatever answer he wants (calling people dumb and saying he manipulates his polling questions and focus groups to sway public opinion instead of reflecting it).

Unfortunately Megyn and the others have made Fux respectable in the eyes of MSLSD and CNN. Even before I cut my cable 3 years ago, I stopped watching them because of Geraldo, O'Dummy and Shemp. And when Britt Hume and Kraut and the others showed their inner RINO, that was it for me.
But last night really was the nail in the coffin as far as I'm concerned.

The shame of the Aztec was that the concept vehicle it was based on was a great looking car. But, when GM started it toward production the infamous GM bean-counters got involved and destroyed it. They wanted to use bits and pieces of other models (minivan frame, etc) to build it and won the money argument. Thus, you got one of the ugliest, dumbest cars to hit the road in decades.

The Type 181 VW Thing/Safari looked very similar to the older Kraft durch Freudwerks Kubelwagen in the sheet metal. But shared nothing with its WWII cousin.

Synchronized four speed transmission mated to a 1600cc air cooled engine versus the non-synchro split case transmission and 1100cc air cooled engine of the Kubelwagen. 12V versus 6V. Four lug wheels versus 5 lug. Spare tire on the Kubelwagen was semi-recessed on the front hood, spare tire on the Thing was not recessed.

Because Luntz goes out and finds "random samplings" of "undecided" American voters. Then during campaign season, Fox News has Luntz ask these "undecided voters" how they feel about candidates. Usually after debates, but sometimes randomly.
Candidates hire him to this for them behind the scenes, too, obviously.
The people that he gets on his panels are always some of the most low information idiots on the planet. (I mean, by design. He has to find "undecided" people, who are usually essentially just "uninformed" people).
They're just... idiots. The things they care about are stupid, the questions Luntz asks are stupid, and the entire thing is clearly crafted to give Fox or Luntz or whoever wrote the questions the answers they want.

I agree he fucked up, but just about every President has raised taxes, including Reagan. Usually its part of some overall deal.
The "new" tax under Bush was some absurd royalty tax for the recording industry that was part of some budget deal.
I really don't think conservatism was advanced over handing the Clintons the White House over that one issue, and income taxes went up through the roof over that temper tantrum. Then our next president was Bush's son.

Reagans policies ended up producing real free market growth.
But in a real free market, tax rates should be completely fair, flat, minimal and there to produce (limited) revenue for the government and nothing else.

But in order to fund anywhere near current levels of government and debt servicing, the "national sales tax" would probably have to be something like 35%. Plus your state sales tax, of say 5%.
Is anyone going to actually pay 40% in taxes?

That wasn't a "new" tax, but considering the backdrop of Clinton jacking it up way more than that and in other tax brackets, but yea, I think it was small potatoes. Reagan raised his original tax rates all sorts of times in an effort to flatten the rate and cut loopholes.
It seems the only issue that conservatives are willing to die for is income rates on the top brackets not being touched.
Again, don't support it but I wouldn't have voted 3rd party over it and certainly don't think our country was better served with Bill and Hillary in charge as penance for this sin.

It was before my tax paying time as well. But yea Reagan brought the top rate down to 28%. Which is incredible if you think about it since it was 70% when he came into office.
And the El Jorge Bush Senior raised it to 31% in a spirit of bipartisanship.

IIRC, it was the largest tax increase in history up to that time.
It also showed what a sucker Bush was. The deal was supposed to be $1.50 in cuts for every $1 of tax increase. The tax increase happened, the cuts didn't.
Of course, calling him a sucker presumes he really wanted cuts to happen.

That's because when you increase the top rate on evil rich people, you're really increasing it on everyone else. If an evil rich person has to pay an extra $1M in taxes, where do you think he gets that extra $1M? He either doesn't spend $1M on good/services which means fewer people are employed to produce those goods/services OR he increases prices on his services/goods in order to make up the money.
That's it. Those are the only 2 ways a tax increase on evil rich people works. So either fewer people work, or everyone pays more for "stuff".
You might wamt to take a look at Bernie Sanders. He wants to raise the top rate to 90%. Right up your alley.

If I recall correctly, the deal with the Dems was a 1:1 tax increase/budget cuts. The tax increase was about $250 billion, the budget cuts never happened (they were planned future cuts).
