In fairness to Jeb, when you listen to his ENTIRE comment, he's actually write. 3 observations: a) the MFM will take anything out of context b) he should have doubled down and blasted the MFM for a, and c) Jeb in the rest of his comment was hot and horny to defend every other government program.

I really like Kevin Williamson but he is just way off base on Trump, or at least what his presence in the field means.

Too bad.

I spent a bunch of time (at least 2 minutes) composing this on the last thread so must impose this on you now.

This is how I hope the debate goes down...

It starts off normal enough. Suddenly Trump's hair scurries across the stage and jumps on Jeb's face. Rand Paul tries to pull it off but it bites his finger off so he screams and backs away. Cruz picks up a laptop and begins beating the hairy thing attached to Jeb's face until it falls off and latches on to Ted's leg. He runs in circles while Huck cries "oh the humanity!" and Walker makes his move. He beats the thing with a mic stand until it lets go of Ted's leg but by now Donald is trying to get his hair under control and tackles Scott. The hair jumps back on Donald's head but it is on backwards. Kasich laughs but is punched in the face by Trump.

Ben Carson slowly backs off stage never to be seen again. Rubio stands there with his mouth agape but manages to sputter "goobsih" whilst Christie eats all of the donuts when no one is watching.

Carly runs in,fixes the laptop and the debate continues.

20 I don't necessarily disagree with Williamson, but it seems to be more about him and his little huff that we aren't taking HIS election seriously enough for HIM.

Hey, Kevin, who should we be taking seriously in a party that has done the things we've seen this one do in just the last few years?

Posted by: Pappy O'Daniel at August 06, 2015 08:25 AM (oVJmc)

21 Looks like Kevin Williamson has a Trump fetish.

NO, of course, I did not read the whole thing. Should I?

24 Reddit had its moments, but I was happy to leave it. And the people who are still on it are more than happy to see the bad-think people leave.

25 Trump will be avuncular, Jeb slightly confused but always seriously wonky, Cruz will talk often about "standing up to the Power!", Huckleberry and Kasich will agree on the need to grow government spending and Walker will talk often about kicking public employee unions to the curb.

At some point, Trump will advise the voters to fire! the politicians and then his daughters and wife will come out on stage, and that's all anyone will talk about tomorrow.

Fiorina versus the crowd will be much more interesting.

In 2012 the GOP told me if Obama was re-elected, it would be the end of America. So, why does the election of 2016 even matter?

32 Ok so Artificial Intelligence has escaped confinement and is loose in the biosphere. The question is, can programmers code something that is smarter than the programmers who write the code?

and the republican party has no unifying principles? Other than self enrichment perhaps?

and reddit is an example of why libertarians can't have nice things. I mean, look, if you are going to try and integrate anarchists, nihilists, and people who don't believe in private property, in with ordinary innocent people, something is going to break.

Posted by: Lest Blastmacher at August 06, 2015 08:40 AM (zEIsr)

33 And the thing about Reddit is (seems to me) it's a fairly shallow thing. If you are interested in a subject and went there, it'd give a fair jumping off point on where to learn more. But almost always finding a forum dedicated to that interest is infinitely better.

So, no loss I guess.

But, of course, if one cannot be bothered to follow the law to get into the country, why should they follow the law to protest:

99 Thank you for your inquiry concerning Carmike's policy on the possession of firearms within our theatres. The events in Aurora, Colorado have placed a renewed emphasis on safety and emergency protocols at all of our theatre locations. Like many movie exhibitors and other retail businesses, Carmike does not allow weapons of any kind, including firearms, into our theatres, except for weapons carried by law enforcement and other security personnel. This policy was in effect prior the recent events in Colorado and remains our policy going forward.

104 My two cents (which is probably all its worth, but still...) is that the next election probably does favor the Democrat, just from an Electoral College perspective.

They control all the big states outright, except Texas, or are favored, like in Florida and Ohio. If the Republican can break the stranglehold on Democrat states in the upper Midwest (win one or two of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, or Iowa) AND win Florida (a must win), the GOP has a shot. But that's the only shot I see.

And, sad to say, Planned Parenthood won't play any more a role in this election than Cecil will. It'll be all about the failed economic policies of the Progressives and how to fix the job market.

If the GOP "debaters" focus relentlessly tonight on jobs and the economy, that'll be a winning strategy. Talk about what is going to happen to electricity rates and supplies, with the Obama EPA in charge. Talk about Keystone, Keystone, Keystone. Immigration, and more immigration. Jobs, Jobs, Jobs.

I call this the "Ostrich Policy." We're just going to ignore the fact that the Aurora, CO shooting was at a "gun free zone," and continue with the ignorant policy that if we ban guns, bad guys with guns won't come shoot our patrons.

Seriously, I would love to see legislation put in place which made businesses which chose to be "gun free" de rigour civilly liable for damage/injury/death on their premises. On the idea that by asserting your authority (as the owner of a private business) over my right to bear arms, you then have a balancing responsibility to guarantee my safety.

And then see how long these places remain "gun free."

I asked where I could contribute to The Powell Foundation. Or was it that black people were OK but white women weren't? Wouldn't that mean racism is gone now? I said I was very confused by the new paradigm and needed some guidance.

It's not right of association - it's right of property. On my property which I own (or lease) I'm (in theory, at least) supposed to be semi-sovereign. So if I tell people they're not allowed to bring X to my business, they should not be allowed to bring X to my business. This should apply if X is a gun or a banana.

However, if I exercise my semi-sovereignty in such a way that I do deprive others of their best means of self defense, then I am accepting responsibility for their defense. In theory, at least.

149 My favorite design is the style Cold Steel calls the "trail hawk" (they are also called a hammer poll) that has a hammer counterweighting the blade and small cheeks down the side if the handle. The US Army design has a pick opposite of the blade and no cheeks.
(the French-canadian style has not poll, by the way)
The US Army design is a good, useful design but it a) looks scary, and b) I am terrified I will get the blade bound up and in giving it a wrench to free it I will get the pick in my eye.

Also, most tomahawks come with a straight handle that is a bit long, so try and get one that the head has an oval handle-socket that can take standard hatchet handles that are curvy.
It makes it look like a tool, is ergonomically more useful, and makes it sexy

174 (looks at my own last comment, mumbles to self)

Valleys is pluralized without y-to-an-i-and-add-e-s.

I've known this for six decades, yet it never hit me before until I noticed that it passed the spill-chorker. I even typed "vallies" to see if the browser's dictionary thought it was a variant spelling, even tho I knew better.

When we were home-schooling our little autodidacts, we told them, the main rule of English is that the exception is the rule.

175 Took a long hiatus from this beloved smart military blog even as a lurker because, along with dealing with a lot of personal issues and a very busy business, it was becoming way too depressing to hear the news every day about how this country has been going down the toilet.

But now that personal & business are improving, and we are going to be first-time grandparents in about 4 weeks, it's time to re-engage in what's happening in the world. And what better place to start than here (where I laughed until I came to tears at some of the comments last night), and what better timing than now, the night of the big debate (ho-hum, but the comments here will be just what I need)?

Don't want to go all emotional and all, but didn't realize until last night how much I missed the humor and cleverness of some of the best commenters on the 'net. A great shot in the arm.

Thanks, ya'll

176 Takes two people to assemble though.

Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at August 06, 2015 09:34 AM (j4Cu5)

I buy stuff all the time that on the box it says it takes two people to carry, two people to assemble. I carry and assemble them on my own.

I'm just that kind of rebel.

177 Ever get lost in an Ikea store? I have. shudder

About 30 years ago, they changed the design of dept stores. You could no longer walk a straight line to get the hell out. YOu have to dodge a million displays.

178 Williamson is absolutely right. Trump fans are the same as Bernie fans. They just want somebody, anybody to pay for why their lives suck and they are so miserable. Trump fans want to stick it to the Mexicans and The Bern's fans want to stick it to corporations/Joooos, but it's all the same whiny, blame others bullshit.
The last thing it is is thoughtful, or in any way conservative.

hahaha! So now GOPe mouthpieces are the experts on conservatism. What a bunch of socialist smacked asses.

179 Is KW at NR suffocating on beltway flatulence, or what?

Sure, throw arrows at the grassroots while the focus-grouped failure theatre bullshit is shoveled at a nearly unimaginable pace.

Repeat after me: Trumps candidacy is a reflection of the GOPe's use (or lack thereof in a conservative sense) of the precious majorities they begged us to deliver. Get a flight out once in a while, Kevin- you fuckstick.

Posted by: cooldawg at August 06, 2015 09:40 AM (Djwm9)

180 A lot of Ikea's designs are good for people who live in the cities/rowhomes. The flatpacks are easy to get up narrow stairwells and the completed items are usually very space efficient.

But if you move a piece of the furniture, even once, it'll be hopelessly ruined. At least, that's the way it is with the particle board stuff. They do make other items out of solid pieces of scrap, and those are pretty indestructible.

182 Trump's name is like a little bell rung for Pavlov's pathetic bunch of insular, keyboard-warrior "True Cons."

Say it and they come running, nipping at the ankles of everyone else. "Yip! Pay attention to me! Yip! I matter, Dad! I have ideas, too, Dad!" Yip! I hate Mexicans, Dad! Yip! Let it burn, Dad! Yip!"

183 "Ever get lost in an Ikea store? I have. shudder "

We were shopping at the one outside of Rome Italy once.

Took about three tries to successfully get out.

But the Swedish Meatballs were good.

184 Trump fans want to stick it to the Mexicans ... it's all the same whiny, blame others bullshit.

It couldn't possibly be that GOP voters are just fed up with the "You'll get nothing and like it, you stupid hicks" attitude of the GOPe, Political Class could it?

I have cinder blocks, milk crates, a set of chains and pulleys in my basement. If I can't balance it with those, then something must be wrong with the design.

187 Trumpetdaddy - very good at slinging insults and childish namecalling, not so good at identifying a single conservative policy accomplishment of his beloved GOP Majority.

His boyfriend Mitch McConnell just preemptively surrendered and announced the GOP won't shut down the Government no matter what, so Obama knows all of his PP, Obamacare, Executive Amnesty, and Iran Deal funding is safe.

No, idiot. That's you. You're like a dog, looking in a mirror, seeing the "other" dog, and growling, as if it's going to scare anybody.

I love how Williamson is supposedly an establishment shill just because he tries to inform all the Trumpkins that their dreamboat candidate is a freaking phony with no principles. The man's to the left of Jeb Bush, but hey, let's stick it to the maaaaaaaaaan.

197 I lost the name but Trump fading with his supporters going the Cruz and then hooking up with Walker then in reverse order is my ideal ticket with this crop. Perry I liked but he would succumb to the GOPe's pressures.

Prez Walker would kill the involuntary gov't extracted dues for fed employees out of the box, Cruz would counsel him on all things constitutional (small fed gubmint) agencies pared eliminated, pressholes and left going nuts with people getting jobs and loving country again coming back etc. Best hope. Carly and Trump with cabinet posts, some scorched earth AG flaying that Torkinen, that Lerner c*nt and Cecile Richards under RICO to start, pause, then corrupt Rat and GOPe senators (former on collusion with IRS), savage media heads and newspaper editors big $ donors on taxes, flat tax, 3R DoE head until transferred back to states, BiBi 1st guest with Congress, go ISIS on ISIS, get puppet strong men in Libya wherever MB or Islamist control, Erdogan victim of heart attack, border wall, deport all mexican criminals with instructions to mexican el presidente that he too is responsible for protecting our border, make US hates Iran gubmint, not people etc.

perchance to dream
