Early Morning Thread 08/01/15 [krakatoa]

I'm going to say it: Hillary is toast.

It's going to come down to Sanders or Joe Biden, and for my L.I.B. money, I'll take Pokin' Joe hip-sliding across the hood of a stretched '78 Trans Am T-Tops every. single. time.

Although the press isn't talking about it, I think most of the Democrat base is as fed up with their leadership as we are with the GOPe.

From the moment we heard that one or more of the Chattanooga troops was armed and fired back, we talked about how charges were probably coming. Surprised?

Kind of like electing a bunch of folks you hope will be conservative ("but, but, she said she'd make the pigs squeal!") and being surprised that one election and a few extra quasi-conservatives didn't halt seventy years of Communist momentum.

If soldiers actually violated policy, there should be a trial. Then the policy should be found guilty and they should give him a medal.

Those chairborne lunkheads at the P'gon are only following orders, I'm sure. They were told to seek vengeance for Abdulazeez, and they did. Not that they are without fault; far from it. But one does not stop the danger from a rattlesnake by cutting off its rattles, I'm afraid. Follow the poison trail to its head -- the Ft. Hood shooter, Bergdahl, and now Abdulazeez. Who is their protector?

Yup. Same guy.

We have become used to accepting treason, and it will continue until the perpetrator is impeached, indicted and imprisoned.

I know several senior officers who have LORs for allowing food past the expiration date to "disappear" from mess halls when they were commanders. My personal favorite is a friend's son who has an LOR for destruction of U.S. Government property. In a firefight in Sadr City, he was an M60 gunner, and his spare barrel bag was on the other side of the road where he couldn't get to it, so he melted the barrel on his M60. 56 "If soldiers actually violated policy, there should be a trial. Then the policy should be found guilty and they should give him a medal."

Many years ago, I worked for, and highly respected a 1st Class Petty Officer who was selected for, and frocked to Chief.

During Liberty Call in a foreign port, he came across a commissioned Officer who was drunk, and bringing discredit to himself, and the Navy.
The only action available to him caused him to be found guilty of striking an Officer.

As he was frocked to Chief, his recommendation for advancement was pulled, causing him to revert from selected and frocked CPO back to Petty Officer First Class. Although this would not be considered a reduction in rate, this would in effect normally end any Sailors future advancement opportunities.

As if recognizing the impossible situation which he had been in, and with the actions that he took being the only option available at the time, six months later, the Selection Board again selected him for advancement, and he continued on to retire years later with a successful career.

Sometimes these things work out in a weird and strange way.

So it's going to be Ted Cruz for the GOP, eh? And an easy victory for the Republicans.

I can see large numbers of patriotic parades in all our major cities in that scenario, but to really make it work we would need an 'illegal war', and a secret bombing campaign to blame on the republicans.

Maybe if those anti terrorism drone strikes continue under Cruz the democrats could charge him with an illegal war since obviously those drone strikes would be a violation of international sovereignty when a Republican is president. . . and there would be homeless people living in abject poverty on the streets again.

Well, let's see what happens. The military services are run by people too. Although at times there is a tendency to take things a little too seriously, my experience (32 years in uniform) is that usually common sense prevails.
I recall not too long ago on this here smart military blog it was universally agreed that the Bergdahl investigation would be a whitewash directed by all the powers that be. I protested that, knowing that the general who had been appointed the 15-6 investigating officer, MG Ken Dahl, was a straight shooter who was going to call it like he saw it. That's exactly what he did. Never got an apology from anyone in the Horde (are you reading, CDR M or Drew M?) or even an acknowledgment that they didn't know what they were talking about. I think this is a similar case, where people are jumping to conclusions about what's going to happen to the good CO without knowing the facts or the process. Let's just calm down and see what transpires. My guess is, his chain of command is going to want to sweep it under the rug and he will be fine.

even moar free stuff for voters...maybe the country is reading to take
the plunge into insanity. The GOP has a great opportunity to assist
with one of several dud candidates.

74 71 Another link about the Federal TRS issued yesterday for the PP videos
============================

OK, now its getting ridiculous. This TRS concerns videos made at an industry conference. Is he seriously using prior restraint on political speech this egregiously?

I find this exacerbating. Heh.

The judge should be impeached and tried by the Senate. No veto possibility, and Republican voters would love it. Probably intelligent Democrats would even support it, given how ugly this action is.

75 Bill Clinton has a "heart attack" and dies. Hill gets to play the grieving widow, no bimbo eruptions and she is only trying to carry on under severe emotional pressure - what a gal. The press goes nuts supporting the widow Clinton because everything was Bill's fault. Hill gets the nomination from a sorrowful Democrat nation. Just saying.

76 Maybe, but I hope we can turn this whole hot mess on its head and argue against Federal give-away welfare programs for immigrants. If someone isn't a citizen and hasn't filed income taxes they shouldn't qualify.

That'll stop a lot of the incoming flood right there.

If one is illegal, no taxpayer funded bennies at all, including welfare, WIC, Section 8 housing, Medicaid, et.al. Once the public benefit trough is dried up, along with employee citizenship/green card verification by employers, the illegal aliens will self-deport.

79 Setting the gaffes aside, Biden in a lot of ways combines the best of Carter and LBJ- the down-home honesty of Carter, and the LBJ-like love of the political process, compromises, and getting involved in parliamentary procedure.

Obama was almost pure ideology- Biden is pretty pragmatic.

Really, I would prefer HONESTY (in the Sanders or Biden flavor) over the Cankled Pantsuited Empress ANY day of the week. As a republican, I'd rather deal with an honest socialist or honest blue-collar than a dishonest populist any day of the week.

Overstuffed with cream cheese, burnt and leaves a bad taste in your mouth kind of toast, that's what kind...

82 They think it'll devolve to a "mass deportation" argument and American voters wont go for "mass deportation".

Maybe, but I hope we can turn this whole hot mess on its head and argue against Federal give-away welfare programs for immigrants. If someone isn't a citizen and hasn't filed income taxes they shouldn't qualify.
___________________

Yes, we really don't need "mass deportation" to accomplish the goal. Secure the borders; start giving prison sentences and huge fines to some visa overstayers (to send a message to the others); strike off the food stamp, Medicaid, disability, "tax credit" (and all other forms of welfare) rolls anybody who can't document U.S. citizenship; and end birth-right citizenship for the U.S. born babies of foreign nationals.

Just doing those few things would substantially reduce the benefit of living in the U.S. illegally. Millions of illegal aliens would leave on their own, once the gravy train of "free" stuff is stopped, or at least significantly curtailed. Once that is accomplished, we can discuss what to do about those who remain. But you don't start trying to clean up the flooded house until you've first taken steps to stop the water gushing in from the broken pipes.

Cheap ass white bread, toasted, then made into a tuna salad sandwich that your three year old then dropped behind the couch cushion last weekend watching cartoons, and you just now found it.

That kind of toast.

86 "It's going to come down to Sanders or Joe Biden..."

I have maintained for some time that it would not be Hillary - her fate was decided in 2008. Post Obama, the Left will not go backwards. But the drama had to play out, and we haven't reached the final act.

No, it won't be Sanders or Biden -- neither offers both the deep emotional pull and mystique required by the Left combined with what will necessarily be labeled "electability."

I still think it will be Elizabeth Warren. A draft movement will start at some point. She will appear reluctant. But it will gain energy and come together finally.

I'd love that match-up. After Ryan's pathetic performance it'll be refreshing to see someone call Biden out on his history. Heck, just read the assessment Gates made of Biden in his memoir to Joe and ask him to respond. That alone will take fifteen minutes and he will look like a fool by the end.

takes only inaction or deliberate bad action from above to deflect a

My point was that we in the Horde tend to immediately leap to the most negative posible outcome and assume that is, in fact, what will happen, when many times it is not what happens. Let this play out and see how it goes before assuming the worst.

I disagree. You should always be prepared for the worst possible outcome. If something better does not happen you avoid a lot of unneeded worrying and heartbreak.

102 I agree and I said long, long ago Hillary would not be the nominee. That was based largely on Benghazi and the assumption that Barky would sabotage her (fuller, it seems more to come) before the e-mail, selling gov't policy to Foundation donors and, most recently, Planned Parenthood.

As to PP, there is a HUGE race card to be played and played hard against Hillary and all 'rats. This is beyond the killing 50% of black babies and 17 million and counting so far.

It is Margaret Sanger's "don't let the Negroes know we will exterminate them" and "coloreds are like weeds to be eradicated"quotes. It is also using these quotes with the pix of Sanger preaching to the KKK, Hillary singing the praises of Sanger and that the corrupt harpy won the "2009 Margaret Sanger Award".

WHEN is someone going to ask her "The Confederate Battle Flag is a hurtful symbol and now down with your support. Now PP--which you took millions from and support billions in support and putting aside their killing babies to sell body parts, PP was expressly created to kill black babies (and Jews and retards) by Margaret Sanger who has said [insert quotes] , spoken to KKK [show picture] and has succeeded in killing 17 million now dead black babies. You spoke highly of Sanger [show Hillary quotes] and won the 2009 Sanger award. Why haven't you returned that award and denounced Sanger? Isn't this worth than the CFB, a flag which has been misused by some as a racist symbol. Should PP get money from the taxpayers when they honor Margaret Sanger to this very day with the award you proudly won and keep? Isn't this awarding anti-black racism? Shouldn't the Democrat Party do the same and denounce PP and cut off funding until Margaret Sanger herself is condemned to no end? Discuss"
