Marco Rubio Commits An Act Of Political Competence, Immediately Outpaces Most Republicans
People have been bemoaning the fact that Cecil the Lion was getting far more attention the Planned Parenthood videos. Some were frustrated that every GOP candidate will now be asked about this.
My counter argument to that is, yes every Republican candidate for office at every level should be forced to answer a question about the damn lion and those that can't *effectively* turn it into a discussion about Planned Parenthood need to self-identify as incompetent and removed from the electoral pool. Amnesty advocate Marco Rubio was asked by a TMZ stringer about Cecil and much to my chagrin, did what needs to be done over and over and over again, redirected it to Planned Parenthood.Comments

Yeah I'm fine with that as well. Grill them all. They're interviewing for the world's most powerful and toughest job. Give them the 3rd and 4th degree. Stick it to all of them. They need to be able to handle this stuff.
But be consistent. Grill them ALL, not just the Republican guys you don't like. That's my problem with the press. its not that they're mean to "our guys," its that they are not mean to "their guys." They're all politicians. At best I distrust them. The press should be suspicious and antagonistic.

This and there are diseases in animals in other countries that we do not have here. The USDA and the US Fish and Wildlife do not want this stuff to come in through shipping containers.
For example, the ban on importing Ivory. Yes, we know that poachers are selling tusks on the black market, but our own government works with the numerous african gov. regarding when , which , how, etc. elephants can be hunted and need a mile long list of signed off permits from all involved to do it. And I"m not sure what happens to the tusks.
The truth though, doesn't matter. Blackfish is still running on CNN routinely, even though it has been proven it contains full out lies about Sea World. Ask the average 26 year old environ mentally ill person about Sea World and they will insist they are going out and netting Shamu and eating his children. That swordfish is really whales, etc. that get caught up and are being sold as swordfish, etc.

People who repair and restore pianos and other vintage keyboard instruments -- and I have some knowledge of the subject -- are getting very nervous about ivory keys. Do you restore them or just replace with plastic and be done with it?
To sell pianos/keys in some states -- and for importation into the USA -- you need all kinds of paperwork to "prove" the ivories on your piano are a zillion years old, and said proof is not possible to obtain.
There is, supposedly, an exemption. No one has yet checked to see how many keys can be covered by 200 grams of ivory.
BTW: the White House has two grand pianos. Both have ivory keytops.

He's a politician. They all are. They have to be. You have to have a certain posture, look, and expression to work well on television. Its why ordinary people look awkward or weird on camera most of the time; its a skill you learn. Its no different than an actor taking the stage, they don't look that way all the time. Its why actors wear all that makeup, so they look right on camera even if its strange in person.
Of all the things to complain about Rubio, this is pretty meaningless. He's a politician, of course he's phony. They all are. The only one I've seen that didn't seem to be phony, at least that got to any position of significance, is President Bush the younger.

Then he summoned the farmer and offered him the prestigious and high paying role of Royal Forecaster.
The farmer said, "Your Majesty, I do not know anything about forecasting. I obtain my information from my donkey. If I see my donkey's ears drooping, it means with certainty that it will rain."
So the king hired the donkey.
And thus began the practice of hiring asses to work in the government and occupy its highest and most influential advisory positions.

Him being the nominee would not at all surprise me. The guy is doing poorly in polls right now, but between him and Jeb, he's clearly the better option for the GOP and they like his approach on immigration. He's a smart choice for them in terms of checking off all the right boxes, but I wonder if he's as easy to control by big corporations and the chamber of commerce as Jeb? That's what really matters.
Then again, if the GOPe were smart, they'd be pushing Fiorino harder, too so who knows what they are thinking.

Warren Wilhelm faced off against Joe Lohta who was in the Giuliani administration and espoused the same exact policies as those that turned a city from shit to a shining city on the hill, and warned that Wilhem would do exactly what he is now doing.
19pct of a largely apathetic voters base, gave Wilhelm a landslide.
So in this case the GOP candidate did his job but his message was sadly rejected.

No. The animation, if you can even call it that, was crude as hell. When the characters "speak" their mouths appear to have a binary mode: fully open, or fully shut, and toggle between states. And the scenery just slides by.

Frankly, no. And many were even worse.
The only compensation, at least IMO, is that the good ones were so much better than the computer-generated swill that makes up "animation" these days, and the writers turned out scripts that weren't always aimed at 6-year-olds of all ages.

The issue isn't so much that he used a bow and arrow as it as that he couldn't harvest the animal cleanly with. Can you take a lion humanely with a bow arrow; sure, if you have the skills for it. Evidently, he did not.
And yes, when these stupid questions turn up, redirect to PP. This horror is now out in the open and people, as Wilberforce said, are much less able to say 'I didn't know', now that the videos are freely open to the public.

No, I actual prefer hunting with a bow over a gun. The nock down power of the bow I use has the equivalent force of a 45 cal bullet. Many compound bows on the market today far exceed that. When I'm on with my bow I can hit postage stamps at 30 meters 3 out of 4 shots. Arrow placement is everything.

Midtown and areas around CP were bubbling along nicely thru the mid aughts, but really took a hit in 09 - by 10 one saw empty storefronts on any number of blocks from MSG to the north side of CP.
Five years later it's become epidemic. Closed businesses, vacant storefronts, busted sidewalks, streetlights out... it's the best of 1975 all over again.

Of course I know that. Same here; there is a bow-only season, IIRC. For deer, at least. Taking deer with a bow is not impractical, although it is still somewhat of an affectation, given that there are hundreds of perfectly effective deer rifles in the marketplace. Taking a lion with a bow? Not so much.

I start practicing for bow season usual around the first of July. By sept. I'm tight with my groups (3 inch). To hunt the land I hunt you have to shoot to qualify every year. You have to shoot 3 9 inch discs at 20 and 30 yards in order with your broad heads.

dartist, I also encountered someone who hunted wild pigs with "traditional methods" in Hawaii. Sounded, well, ..... badass.
Nothing could get me interested in hunting (just too many other things, not enough time), but the pig hunters do lay out a pretty attractive picture.
Varmint animal (in numbers such that they are a real problem for farmers), smartest things on four legs, work collectively, will counter-attack in some situations, and have armor that makes your fun calibers (large caliber hunting revolvers, 7.62X54R) the right choice - and, finally, good eating.
