Marco Rubio Commits An Act Of Political Competence, Immediately Outpaces Most Republicans

People have been bemoaning the fact that Cecil the Lion was getting far more attention the Planned Parenthood videos. Some were frustrated that every GOP candidate will now be asked about this.

My counter argument to that is, yes every Republican candidate for office at every level should be forced to answer a question about the damn lion and those that can't *effectively* turn it into a discussion about Planned Parenthood need to self-identify as incompetent and removed from the electoral pool.

Amnesty advocate Marco Rubio was asked by a TMZ stringer about Cecil and much to my chagrin, did what needs to be done over and over and over again, redirected it to Planned Parenthood.

It's not a terribly strong turn but it was an ambush thing so I'll cut him some slack. At least he got the camera guy to agree with him. On TMZ! That's the kind of place where this message needs to be heard the most. Candidates have to be ready to take pop culture questions, acknowledge them (don't belittle people who care about the lion, they'll tune the rest out) and move on to a serious subject.

I'll never vote for Rubio but he deserves credit for at least getting the basics right here. That's not a given with the GOP for the most part.

I agree. I find it absurd that that is not a constant angle of attack.

"white supremacist Margaret Sanger, who wanted to sterilize all black men, started Planned Parent in 1924 (whatever) with that goal in mind. Planned Parenthood later expanded in to abortions, as sterilizations were not working quickly enough. You'll notice most PP "clinics" are located in inner cities in black neighbors, or formerly black neighborhoods. That's by design, as vehemently racist Margaret Sanger wanted to kill off all 'undesirables' including blacks, as she was a big proponent of the Science! of eugenics. As was Hitler, by the way."

Today, after "someone" counseled the Zimbabwean AG, they have asked for extradition of Palmer to stand trial for poaching. Issued a license to hunt, took his 50K and now seek to convict and sentence Palmer to make an example for the world?

Bullshit! Someone in the O'Bummer Administration has intervened on behalf of Cecil's lion family to make an example of the bad American hunter. Zimbabwe is an absolute shit hole, the government is corrupt beyond belief and barely exists, and the "white flight" has left behind the remnants of civilization while most of the country has slowly been returned "to the bush".

$50k in real currency is a shit ton of money over there and well appreciated.

Lions, on the other hand, aren't worth a whole lot to a country full of starving desperately poor and war torn people.

The black Zimbabwean landowner lured the lion out of the park and onto his land without telling Mr. Dumbass Dentist DDS.

Mr. Dumbass Dentist DDS, after killing the lion, realizes that it's collared and must have been from the nearby park, and immediately notifies the same Zimbabwean authorities who issued him his permit.

This and there are diseases in animals in other countries that we do not have here. The USDA and the US Fish and Wildlife do not want this stuff to come in through shipping containers.
For example, the ban on importing Ivory. Yes, we know that poachers are selling tusks on the black market, but our own government works with the numerous african gov. regarding when , which , how, etc. elephants can be hunted and need a mile long list of signed off permits from all involved to do it. And I"m not sure what happens to the tusks.

The truth though, doesn't matter. Blackfish is still running on CNN routinely, even though it has been proven it contains full out lies about Sea World. Ask the average 26 year old environ mentally ill person about Sea World and they will insist they are going out and netting Shamu and eating his children. That swordfish is really whales, etc. that get caught up and are being sold as swordfish, etc.

No one else is quite sure either.

People who repair and restore pianos and other vintage keyboard instruments -- and I have some knowledge of the subject -- are getting very nervous about ivory keys. Do you restore them or just replace with plastic and be done with it?

To sell pianos/keys in some states -- and for importation into the USA -- you need all kinds of paperwork to "prove" the ivories on your piano are a zillion years old, and said proof is not possible to obtain.

There is, supposedly, an exemption. No one has yet checked to see how many keys can be covered by 200 grams of ivory.

BTW: the White House has two grand pianos. Both have ivory keytops.

He's a politician. They all are. They have to be. You have to have a certain posture, look, and expression to work well on television. Its why actors wear all that makeup, so they look right on camera even if its strange in person.

252 My sister (reliable dem, smdh) sent me this, said it reminded her of me.-

Once upon a time there was a king who wanted to go fishing.

He called the royal weather forecaster and asked about the upcoming weather conditions.

The weatherman assured him that there was no chance of rain in the days ahead.

So the king went fishing with his wife, the queen. On the way he met a farmer on his donkey. Upon seeing the king the farmer said, "Your Majesty, you should return to the palace at once because in just a short time I expect a huge amount of rain to fall in this area".

The king was polite and considerate, he replied: "I hold the palace meteorologist in high regard. He is an extensively educated and experienced professional. And besides, I pay him very high wages. He gave me a very different forecast. I trust him and I will continue on my way."

A short time later a torrential rain fell from the sky. The king and queen were totally soaked. Their entourage chuckled upon seeing them in such a drenched condition.

Furious, the king returned to the palace and fired the weatherman at once!

Then he summoned the farmer and offered him the prestigious and high paying role of Royal Forecaster.

The farmer said, "Your Majesty, I do not know anything about forecasting. I obtain my information from my donkey. If I see my donkey's ears drooping, it means with certainty that it will rain."

So the king hired the donkey.

And thus began the practice of hiring asses to work in the government and occupy its highest and most influential advisory positions.

Federal law prohibits an American citizen or resident to travel to a foreign country with intent to engage in any form of sexual conduct with a minor (defined as persons under 18 years of age). This is applied regardless of local age of consent laws.

Him being the nominee would not at all surprise me. The guy is doing poorly in polls right now, but between him and Jeb, he's clearly the better option for the GOP and they like his approach on immigration. He's a smart choice for them in terms of checking off all the right boxes, but I wonder if he's as easy to control by big corporations and the chamber of commerce as Jeb? That's what really matters.

Then again, if the GOPe were smart, they'd be pushing Fiorino harder, too so who knows what they are thinking.

Which is also another reason they lured it with meat, not only to get it out of the park, but to get it in range of a bow shot. I also think his guide knew hanging meat on the side of the truck would work, because Cecil has been tranqulizer darted before in order to get his radio collar on. Tranq darts don't fly 300 yds, you have to get the animal close enough to dart and make sure they don't go off and fall over a cliff or into a river, etc.

I think Mr.Dentist got to hung up on wanting to shoot the cat with a bow and lost the ideal of a quick clean shot. I've read that they tracked the cat for 40 hours before finding it wounded and shooting it with a rifle.

This was simply not the case in NY.

Warren Wilhelm faced off against Joe Lohta who was in the Giuliani administration and espoused the same exact policies as those that turned a city from shit to a shining city on the hill, and warned that Wilhem would do exactly what he is now doing.

19pct of a largely apathetic voters base, gave Wilhelm a landslide.

So in this case the GOP candidate did his job but his message was sadly rejected.

Put the blame squarely on Mayor deBolshevik.

Why would transit cops risk arresting a bum masturbating on a train? Because, if the arrest goes sideways, the cops know the mayor does not have their backs. If I were a cop, I wouldn't risk my career/personal livelihood/jail to arrest some homeless guy. The risk/reward makes it a losing proposition. That line of reasoning is a result of deBolshevik's well-known animosity to cops.

Well and the police are run from the top down. If the official policy is to focus on some crimes rather than others, to let some stuff go and focus on other stuff, then that's what they have to do. Plus, if cops see prosecutors refusing to really do anything about some crimes, they'll stop busting people for it. What's the point? Its just paperwork, risk, and time for nothing.

No, I actual prefer hunting with a bow over a gun. The nock down power of the bow I use has the equivalent force of a 45 cal bullet. Many compound bows on the market today far exceed that. When I'm on with my bow I can hit postage stamps at 30 meters 3 out of 4 shots. Arrow placement is everything.

If I ever managed to kill a grizzly bear with my bare hands and a knife,

I'd have it's skin made into a double-breasted suit with two pairs of matching pants,

and it's head made into a grizzly bear head Top Hat

then wear it to work every day like Hercules wore the Nemean lion's skin.

424 402 TV Newser reports that Ed Schultz, Abby Huntsman, Toure, and Krystal Ball are "out."

Of what? Ethics?

Well, that and, in Ed's case, spicy chicken wings and chili cheese fries.

425 The gang of 8 deal with Rubio pretty much soured me on him. Made me think he was naïve and would be easily influenced into the GOPe. Too squishy.

You have to have a pretty small mind and life experience to pyschoanalyze strangers based on their recreational activities.

dartist, I also encountered someone who hunted wild pigs with "traditional methods" in Hawaii. Sounded, well, ..... badass.

Nothing could get me interested in hunting (just too many other things, not enough time), but the pig hunters do lay out a pretty attractive picture.

Varmint animal (in numbers such that they are a real problem for farmers), smartest things on four legs, work collectively, will counter-attack in some situations, and have armor that makes your fun calibers (large caliber hunting revolvers, 7.62X54R) the right choice - and, finally, good eating.

OregonMuse, I wasn't referring to the bovine one. Kind of shocking, actually, the number of otherwise respectable regulars who have echoed the tired and vapid nonsense about machismo and hunting.

431 Can we all agree that taking a lion with a Bowie knife would be pretty badass?

Dental pick.....I'd pay to watch.

432 Former NFL quarterback, Kevin Kolb, who suffered a career-ending injury by tripping on a mat after practice with the Bills, used to hunt boar with a knife. I remember his interviews on sports radio here in Buffalo; made him sound like a badass.

In
Hawaii years ago I met a local that hunted wild boar by what he called
dog and knife. Dogs would corner it and he would run in with the knife.
Pretty badassed. I missed getting a taste of the beast by one day.

433 Late to the comments, but two props for Rubio. He showed that he's up on the internet outrage by correcting the TMZ reporter that it was a Lion and not a Tiger. So the outrage machine can't yell "Repug doesn't know the difference between Lion and Tigers". And of course, props for bringing up the PP videos. He could have shown a little more outrage about the videos, but he also wasn't an ass to the reporter, so really he handled it very well.

434 [Zimbabwe President For Life] Robert Mugabe isn't known for his subdued taste, and his million-dollar birthday was just as extravagant as people have come to expect.

The ZANU-PF leader saw in his 92nd year with the slaughter of wild animals, including an elephant, which were cooked and served to his guests.

His party took place at an exclusive lodge, spa and golf course in Victoria Falls, and it was estimated to have cost $1million (£648,000). During the celebrations, Mugabe released 91 balloons into the sky with the help of his wife, Grace.

An estimated 20,000 people attended the party at Elephant Hills resort, which was put on to celebrate the birthday of the leader who has been accused of abusing human rights and democracy.

His guests were fed a young elephant, and two buffaloes, two sables and five impalas were also donated to the president by a local landowner. He also threw in a lion and a crocodile to be stuffed as an extra gift for Mugabe. On top of this, 40 cows were offered to the president by two members of his government. A second elephant is going to be shot and given to the Victoria Falls community.

435 "I'll never vote for Rubio..."

So, if the 2016 general election choices are Hillary or Bernie Sanders on one side, and Rubio on the other, then you'd vote for Hillary or Sanders, or stay home? But never Rubio?

Wow. Just wow. Talk about a credibility cratering.

Rubio is not my candidate, not even in my top 5. And I really detest the Jebster with every fiber of my being. But in November '16 I'd race to the polls to vote for either of those ahead of Hillary or Sanders.

436 I call fake / setup.

Rubio was not ambushed there. He was in on it.

437 Good for him. And TMZ really liked him, because he was a "cool" Republican who liked some rap music.

However I did hear Marco the other day deliver the line that Ace always mocks, like "Well, if only we had the presidency, we could do this or that..."

Marco, you need to read this smart military blog, LOL.

438 Gee, y'know, it'd almost as if these issues (Cecil the lion and Cecile the Abomination) were put before us a'purpose...

...to help separate the sheep from the goats.

Who hath ears, let him use a Q-Tip.

Posted by: Mentor of Arisia at July 31, 2015 01:44 PM (ybzJi)

439 At least he knew it was a lion, not a tiger, unlike the interviewer.

And yeah, that is not how to pronounce Cecil. It's not "See-sul" it's "Se-sul"

440 At last! We get down to the .45 vs. compound bow debate. This conversation is long overdue.

I'm not going to hunt lion with a M1911, ever.

I might agree, except that the "tiger" thing is pitch-perfect for the ignorantoids in the Piss-Stream Media. Rubio went along with "tiger" at first until he processed it enough to slide in the word "lion". That's smooth, not fake.
