This is why that "the science is settled" shit really annoys actual scientists. No science is ever "settled," ever. Some of the apparently soundest notions of science - Newtonian mechanics, conservation of parity - were subsequently shown to be substantially in error or inadequate. Physical scientists are surprised all the time; even climastrologists are surprised, as for example by the 17 year hiatus in "global warming."
"Social" scientists, OTOH, are never surprised. Their data always bear out their original hypotheses. I guess they're just a lot smarter than we are, and were just hiding their brain power when we took hard science classes together.

Add in what we have learned about other solar systems.
Our solar system seems to be one of the quiet, stable ones, and was likely very different early in its life.
Others solar systems are like madhouses. Planets bigger than Jupiter orbiting so close to their parent stars they circle it in just a few days, for example.
I am glad to hear there are still some scientists left that admit they don't know everything.
Too many of them these days see themselves as high priests or catalogers.

A very good friend of mine from college (a math major) is now (after a stint in finance, etc.) on the shady side of the hill teaching high school math in a less than stellar area.
Apparently, it's soul-destroying. Kids are stupid and lazy, don't give a crap, don't do the work, in short, pretty much reflect their parents' values. He hates it. And being conservative, also hates the teacher's union, to which he must perforce belong and pay dues. Putting up with brain-dead liberal education majors is just an added bonus.

Feminists love bees. Bees are their spirit animals. Why? Because Bees (and certain spiders, but spiders are yucky) are one of the few creatures that living in matriarchal society.
Now, before you laugh too hard -- think about. The entire colony lives or dies based on the Queen bee. Who has many suitors and basically sits around all day controlling her minions while her minions do all the actual work.
So if bee colonies are dying off, that means the feminists spirit animals must be mad. And like scorned gods, they are sending a sign to the patriarchies of the world that they cannot survive without matriarchal creatures like honey bees, who do the important work of pollinating our flowers.

Buddy of mine did that after law school. Taught history. Wanted to "make an impact" on his community. Kind of a liberal type, more LIV than anything.
His eyes were opened very quickly. The stories he told -- I mean, I believe it!
But essentially the kids were entirely unconcerned with learning, their parents had no control over them and did not care if their kids were not learning. They also took any criticism of their children as being "racist" or "ignorant" and essentially everyone in the entire district had just "checked out". They go through the motions of teaching, but essentially they see themselves as part time prison guards keeping an eye on the yutes for 7 hours (or whatever), and thats about it.

Hire several hundred veterans and put them in an office where it's there job to send out cards to veterans that they can present at any doctor's office, hospital, or medical center to receive treatment.
Send the medical bill to the same office where it's reviewed to make sure it's an actual veteran receiving the care and then paid.

There are two large public high schools in the city where I live. One is the affluent one; the other is more, cough, "urban". The teachers I knew worked at the urban one.
They were completely hamstrung by their administration. They'd gotten a new principal, who had noticed that the down market school had a much higher suspension and expulsion rate than the up market one. She decided this Needed Fixing.
Her solution was... To stop suspending and expelling students. The students, who aren't smart but are very gifted in feral cunning, realized that they now effectively wouldn't be punished for anything they did, and became basically uncontrollable.

What else did we do? Oh, our one big assignment of the course was to bounce a ball and measure the height it got to each time. Then run some regression in the TI-83 and compare notes.
I did it in between rounds of beer pong with the ping pong ball.

If any school disciplines a "disproportionate" number of blacks, they will get their federal funding cut. This means that white and Asian students are disciplined for teeny-tiny infractions and blacks get a pass on anything short of a violent felony. Living hell.

New Horizons is expected to encounter another KBO on its way out. There are two potential candidates near its current track, and they will have to pick one and use the spacecraft's thrusters to alter its path slightly. I don't know how far away they are; presumably it will take a few more years to get there.

Not sure, but Asylum makes a bunch of movies and now Z Nation for Syfy.
They also make a bunch for NetFlix.
Sound like some smart guys. Get a cheesy premise, get some well known but past sell by date actors/singers, bad special effects, film it and sell to SyFy and Netflix knowing that they just need to get people like me that schlock movies to tune in. 3M viewers puts them in high cotton.

It is in complete opposition to how I have encountered police on the wrong side of the law (speeding). When I was pulled over for speeding, the single cop held me at gunpoint on the ground for over half an hour while 5 additional cop cars, carrying two police officers each arrived all pointing guns at me face down on the ground. Only then did one of them lower their gun and come over and cuff me. All for simply speeding at 20 mph over the speed limit.
