VERY long story short, eldest daughter driving from OH to CT tomorrow (UConn Physics PhD program), and had some last-minute travel woes. She has a cat and felt she needed to drive straight through (~12 hours!).
I told her what I'd learned from The Horde, and this evening she made a reservation for one about 8 hours into her drive.

There were several of us on that thread who made that point, that it is corporate policy at Motel 6 to accept pets. I travel with my dog, and use Motel 6 as a consequence. Has anyone ever done a study comparing the emotional stability/mental health of psychologists or psychiatrists with that of the general public?
I once dated a guy whose parents had a family friend who was a psychologist. The shrink's wife gut shot him. Then there is the psychiatrist I knew whose kid was completely screwed up. He refused to allow the school to get him evaluated. Then there's the psychologist cousin of mine who moved across the state so he wouldn't have to have anything to do with his manic depressive brother. Then there was the shrink in my area who got into trouble because he was screwing young women who were getting counseling from him because they'd been victims of sex abuse, and he was doing some nefarious shit on the side with redistributing drugs.
Sorry, Sara Goldf**k, but Gramps being a shrink, doesn't make him qualified to shoot off his mouth about Walker's character. As a matter of fact, if he were a competent shrink, he'd know that his issuing statements comparing Walker to a whacko like Hitler is unethical.

I know a lot of psychs because I live near a medical center with about 3 hospitals. I've also attended hearings regarding their licenses and I have head friends married to, dating, or who are psychs. Has anyone ever done a study comparing the emotional stability/mental health of psychologists or psychiatrists with that of the general public?
I once dated a guy whose parents had a family friend who was a psychologist. The shrink's wife gut shot him. Then there is the psychiatrist I knew whose kid was completely screwed up. He refused to allow the school to get him evaluated. Then there's the psychologist cousin of mine who moved across the state so he wouldn't have to have anything to do with his manic depressive brother. Then there was the shrink in my area who got into trouble because he was screwing young women who were getting counseling from him because they'd been victims of sex abuse, and he was doing some nefarious shit on the side with redistributing drugs.
Sorry, Sara Goldf**k, but Gramps being a shrink, doesn't make him qualified to shoot off his mouth about Walker's character. As a matter of fact, if he were a competent shrink, he'd know that his issuing statements comparing Walker to a whacko like Hitler is unethical.

I thought I was hallucinating, 'cause after it happened ... slowing down to go over a speed bump ... it didn't happen again.
Thought that maybe my foot had slipped between the gas pedal and the brake pedal and so I really hadn't been pushing.
Dropped the hubby off & started to go to class and about 1/4 mile later, happened again. Pushing the brake pedal & it won't depress. Approaching a stop light. At a really busy intersection. Did the car no favors but managed to shift it into park.
After that, nursed it home at 15 mph & used the hand brake and put it in neutral at lights.
1st world problems. Many people don't have cars.
The gear shift clip on the other car turn out to be not so much-ish, cost wise, and we picked it up late today, so at least tomorrow, we have 1 car working.

My major problem with psychology (and therefore psychologists) is that is a constant attempt to put people on boxes. And the curriculum is just about as rigorous as education. And rather than admitting that people are all individuals, they just keep adding more boxes. Childhood sexual abuse is a good example.
Psychiatrists at least have been through med school, internship, residency, and there is little chance that a complete idiot can make it through this kind of regimen. But they usually started out as psych majors.

I wear "disposables" that are good for a month or two per pair, and I have worn them for 30-odd years, the last 20 of which, my prescription has scarcely changed. Correct for astigmatism and severe myopia. Most of the time, I am completely unconscious of their presence in my eyes, other than when a foreign object gets in there.

My doc switched me over from the 2 week ones to the daily ones two years ago, and I love the daily ones. They are much thinner, and I can definitely tell a difference because sometimes I forget I have them in.
When I wore the 2 week ones, they got real uncomfortable by the 10 day mark.

The local fishwrap for months made a point of characterizing White as a "conservative" city councilman (or whatever his title was), who'd been a cop and in the military, thereby inviting the conclusion he was a Republican. I always used to wonder how a Republican got elected in SF, even back then.
Turns out, he wasn't a Republican; he was a Democrat too. I guess they forgot to mention that.

After that, every Republican in the state wanted to hire the guy. That is what the establishment does.
