Busy day today. First, take the dogs swimming, followed by bathing them. Replant the one hundred or so daylilies that I dug up yesterday in a new location in the yard, which means digging up sod. Then replant sedum that was interspersed among the daylilies in their former location, after first moving some displaced soil into that location.

Shower, eat dinner, then drive two hours to return our neighbors' dog to them after their weeklong vacation and to get ready for my metalworking classes on Monday and Tuesday. I shall go to bed tired tonight.

Maybe the Dems will win. What difference, at this point, does it make? The GOPe won't make any attempts at all to roll back any of the court decisions, and they're pro-illegal. Hildabeast, at least she lets you know how much it's going to hurt. And she's promised us Happy Fun Camps. I don't see the GOPe offering us those... Yet. (As Rush says, they always tell you what they're going to do.)

Or maybe Trump will win and somehow stop the invasion.

Is there a higher priority than that, at this point? If so, what is it?

Then I made a big batch of spaghetti sauce, most of which I portioned into containers and froze. This makes enough sauce that I only have to do it about every three months.

So it was like a perfect storm of yard work and cooking.

Infidel, I went to good schools and even I learned about 80% of my (very modest) historical knowledge through the books my parents had in our personal library. It's even better, in a way, when kids discover history on their own. Then it's a joy to read and not just another assignment.

Talking with other 'rons and 'ettes, this self-education seems to be pretty common.

If you love history, you will never be bored. There's always something new to learn in a hundred different facets: military, politics, the arts, fashion, medicine, architecture, science, you name it.

Almost all of the Union Civil War memorials are in northern towns and cities. There were a lot of memorial statues put up about 20 years after the war ended both in the north and south. There was a second, smaller fad to put up Confederate memorials in 1915 because it was the 50th anniversary of the end of the Civil War, because more southern towns could afford a memorial and because the movie "Birth of a Nation" had come out.

If you travel to a northern town to desecrate a Civil War memorial you will be doing Barack Obama an enormous favor. Remember where all this current CBF hysteria started? Do you think that this is the result that Dylan Roof intended?

To be quite honest, I would be happy to see anybody defacing any Civil War memorial shot down like a dog by the police.

This kind of thing is so scary. We have a fair bit of crime here but nothing like this.

Which reminds me: we need gps systems that avoid bad neighborhoods. I was in Louisiana a few years ago trying to get back to my hotel and somehow missed the freeway turnoff so gps took me some other way and I stopped at a stop sign and realized there were a bunch of people standing around after dark by a pawn shop... Told my coworkers who lived there the next day and they were like, yeah, you don't want to drive over there.

I remember my dad taking me to NYC to start college. Back then, I was told to not walk the streets at night. (I did anyway) It was an education in itself. But I survived and learned a lot about people. I still remember meeting an old lady who told me to not grow old in NYC..I took her advice.

I watched the video where some Jewish group was asking college students (Penn?) to name any of the death/concentration camps during WWII. I don't remember how many got any of 'em, but the number approached zero.

On the other hand, spraying for ants is just temporary relief since you are just killing workers who only live for a few days any how. What you need is poisoned food that they will bring back to the nest and feed to the queen. Once the queen is dead, she stops laying eggs which hatch into worker ants and the nest dies. Get some ant bait and put it out. You might have to try several kinds. Some of the stuff they sell and all of the organic stuff is worthless. If you have pets or kids, you probably only want to get the stuff in metal cans with holes that the ants go into to get the poisoned food. Put the cans on the ant trails and don't spray for a few days. Dead ants can't bring the poison home.
