At the start of the war, Germany had 4,000 aircraft compared to Britain’s front-line strength of 1,660. By the time of the fall of France, the Luftwaffe (the German air force) had 3,000 planes based in north-west Europe alone including 1,400 bombers, 300 dive bombers, 800 single engine fighter planes and 240 twin engine fighter bombers. At the start of the battle, the Luftwaffe had 2,500 planes that were serviceable and in any normal day, the Luftwaffe could put up over 1,600 planes. The RAF had 1,200 planes on the eve of the battle which included 800 Spitfires and Hurricanes – but only 660 of these were serviceable.

IIRC, as soon as you nosed over in the Spit, the fuel feed to the carb lost pressure. That's why the ME-109 who were fuel injected had that advantage. If you rolled over into an inverted dive with the early Spits, you didn't lose all that much. They came up with a fix for that, and I think a British woman helped design and manufacture it.

The girls (for whatever reason) matured a lot faster physically and they had the money and the lack of parental control (sometimes with parental agreement) to dress the part. Makeup, the whole nine yards.
Usually there's other tells so you know they're underage and I sure didn't have sexual urges but was shocked about it knowing that they were that young yet looked so much older.
And middle school goes to like Freshman year so that's like 15-16.

I think it's crime too. It comes from TV and pop culture. The schools don't help with the sex ed classes getting younger and younger.

So IMHO it was a good movie that was a little bit ruined by Streisand's obsessive need to *always* be seen as right and the Source Of Everything Good In The World.

I think it can be a bit situational too. You're going to the games and they are surrounded by everyone else their own age and definitely acting their age. And you might see them pretty close up too. Babs basically played a character that everyone hates, because she's just so wonderful and full of goodness. I can't stand that kind of portrayal of anyone in a movie.
Two other movies that IMHO contain that flaw, and which I never particularly want to see: Shawshank Redemption, and The Green Mile. ("See, he's really Jesus!") Oh good grief.

My first long-time relationship was three days older than I was. Next was three years; after that, seven years; next 11 years.....then I took some time off.
And I can truthfully say that walking across a college campus, I feel like I'm visiting an elementary school. The kids look impossibly young to belong there.

I watched that debate, CC, but I tried to avoid doctor-bashing. FWIW, I see nothing wrong with one's primary-care physician recommending safe behavior, like wearing a seat belt. What I do see as wrong is the government or insurance companies using physicians as cats' paws to spy on or propagandize patients. It's an imposition on doctors, and could spoil the doctor-patient relationship.

Well I think its about what Tammy says. Because of your wife being an assistant cheerleading coach, you are around that age a lot more. So you have a really good frame of reference of the identification of the "signs." Others don't and while they probably would be able to spot most of the young girls that are trying to look older than they are, there is going to be that 1 in 1,000 girl that in some settings isn't going to set off those bells, especially for the very minimal interaction that there will be.

I would bet that most of the actors doing the Q&A's want to get the fuck out of town as soon as possible and not stick around for a later Q&A. The Sunday Q&A panels don't want to have anything revealed on a Saturday night show, so it would have to be one of those 3.
Out of those three, I think about 2 fucks would be given by Conan's audience over Once Upon a Time, so they would be out. Leaving The Simpsons and Batman v Superman.
Conan was a writer for The Simpsons, but The Simpsons is a Fox property.
Which leads to Batman vs Superman. Its panel is tomorrow, has big stars, and it is a Warner Brother's property, the parent company of TBS.

I admit while I'm chatting with you guys tonight, I'm also actually working... I transcribe quality calls at several luxury hotels in Hawaii and the U.S. Virgin Islands and make $2 for each call I transcribe (regardless of their length).
Anyway I won't give up too much, but a software engineer just sent two calls to the management on one of these lines. Turns out he refuses to use their public wifi... because he says when he logged on, he found they have *no* SSL encryption whatosever on their wifi network, so it's wide open to whomever wants to hack it.
Probably not that unusual at these hotels. Encryption costs money and managers know most guests don't know how to look for that kind of protection or even think of it.
Still, thought it was worth mentioning here.

Seems though that if he was guilty and did have stuff on his electronics, that he would now at least be charged if not sitting in jail at this point. And yet he's not.
And that's part of why I went off about it. To me it's a small thing compared to the disruption in his life and forevermore.
And all because maybe someone took what he said out of context. Maybe. Maybe not.
It's fascinating that we pride ourselves on our justice system and innocent until proven guilty but see how fast assumptions are made about guilt and what someone unknown to you thinks or doesn't think and how quickly people are to judge without any facts.
Maybe I'm oversensitive about it because I'm single and I'm older and I know I get looks and people wondering "is he gay?" "is he a pervert" "why's he living alone?" "is he some kind of serial killer" and it bugs the shit out of me how shallow and casually vicious people can be without cause or need yet it's the goto position for too many people who don't seem to be bothered one bit about their casual slander.
So I maybe lean a little too far the other way and give most anyone the benefit of the doubt if there's room for it to apply.

Watched the Brewers-Dodgers game tonight. The score was 2-0 Brewers at the bottom of the 7th. The Crew's pitcher, young Jimmy Nelson was pitching beautifully. The Dodgers hadn't even managed a hit against him. He got 2 quick outs and I was thinking he might pitch his first complete game at Dodger Stadium. Then a Dodger hit a ball straight to the 3rd baseman. It should have been an easy out to end the inning - but the third baseman bobbled the ball and then airmailed it to first baseball. So the inning continued. And the next 4 Dodgers all got base hits. Dodgers win 3-2.
Sometimes I really hate this Brewers team. I've been watching shit like this all season.

I think I may have shared this story before. My first "real" girlfriend had a dad who was crippled by polio. But he made up for it by spending a lot of time on the bench and pull-up bar. Think Joe Swanson from Family Guy.
First time I went to her house (to watch a Ravens game, maybe?) he waited until she and her mom were in the kitchen, calmly reached under the coffee table and came up with a set of stainless steel 18" nunchaku. He snapped them once, placed them on the table and put his feet up. Didn't say a fucking word.
He had nothing to worry about, except cleaning up the puddle I left on his couch.

Someone was talking about some medical injury/issue they were dealing with and I happened to say something like, "Well it's better than what I'm dealing with."
Horde jumped all over that of course.
What I was dealing with was a slight break in the skin very high up on my inner thigh that had become infected. So high up that we were within an inch or so of OH HELL NO. So close in fact, that I was sent to a proctologist to make sure everything was ship shape.

I played all the way through college. Pitched. I played on some very bad teams. As in I recorded 5 and 6 strikeouts in a single inning.
BUT, I never blamed my position guys. How could I? Do they blame me for every base hit? For every walk? For every ball I throw?
My job as a pitcher was to win the game. Sometimes that meant giving up 4 or 5 runs, sometimes that meant throwing shutouts. Whatever was required, that's what I was responsible for.

Back when I had too many computers I had set up two different wireless routers for the network. I had to call them for a problem and they dispatched a tech. He couldn't help me because he'd never seen a setup with more than one router before.

To give you an idea, several of us were drunkenly discussing something, I don't remember what, and Eris came up. And her affinity for edged weapons. And then the argument started on whether or not she owned a pair of handcuffs.
So we call her over. No explanation. Just straight into it, "Hey, do you own handcuffs?"

I thought this year's NoVaMoMee venue was great. It was big enough to "contain" us, but it had a modesty curtain fencing the room off from the rest of the patrons to shield us from prying eyes (and protect them from us). A gaggle of young girls in the ladies' room told me it sounded like our group was having a ton of fun and they were jealous.
So cool to see Hrothgar and LadyS and LiB and Vendette and BC and all the rest. And don't be jealous, but I hugged AtC. That's like inappropriately touching royalty.

That changed one night in Texas. I think it was in Amarillo, in 1912, but I'm not positive about that. Anyway, a donkey went nuts out on the street just outside the theater where the Marx Brothers were performing; word made it into the theater, and the audience filed out to go watch the donkey instead.
Once things were under control, the audience came back in. Julius, who would later be known as Groucho, was really annoyed that the audience had apparently found a berserk donkey more interesting than the show he and his brothers were putting on, and he began berating and insulting the audience.
One line that he used was something like, "I suppose it makes sense. After all, the jack-ass is the state animal of Tex-ass!"
The audience was just eating it up; they loved it. So, the Marx Brothers decided to start incorporating comedy into their shows.

They're a 1990s recording of scripts from a 1930s Marx Bros. radio show, the scripts were found in storage many decades later and no original recordings survived.

Watched the Brewers-Dodgers game tonight. The score was 2-0 Brewers at the bottom of the 7th. The Crew's pitcher, young Jimmy Nelson was pitching beautifully. The Dodgers hadn't even managed a hit against him. He got 2 quick outs and I was thinking he might pitch his first complete game at Dodger Stadium. Then a Dodger hit a ball straight to the 3rd baseman. It should have been an easy out to end the inning - but the third baseman bobbled the ball and then airmailed it to first baseball. So the inning continued. And the next 4 Dodgers all got base hits. Dodgers win 3-2.

Just got back from that game. I had to laugh during the run streak.
The guy you mentioned is on first. Then the next guy hits a single and gets himself on first, while the guy already on first advances to third.
Then the catcher goes to the mound for a conference.
When he's done, the guy on first promptly steals second.
Then the catcher goes to the mound for a conference.
The guy at bat then hits the ball, which gets the two guys on base across the home plate.
Then the catcher goes to the mound for a conference.
The next guy at bat gets hits the ball, and gets the previous guy home for the third point.
Then the catcher goes to the mound for a conference.
At this point, I turned to the guy next to me and noted that everytime the catcher went to conference with the pitcher, good things happened (for the Dodgers, not the catcher, obviously).
Unfortunately, the next guy's hit was caught (in a very nicely executed catch by one of the infield guys), putting a stop to the Dodger's flurry of runs.

Elder daughter lives in the NW, great woman, steely army vet, lives with a nice guy, no kids, alas.
Younger daughter had a rough start in life and would not have become the functional adult she is without her mom's iron resolve and devotion. She lives here in town, and was really close to her mom, lived in the same apartment complex. This is going to be especially rough for her.
And her younger sister lives over by the lake.

Yeah that argument lost credibility long ago. I'm 34 now. At some point the whole bday celebration/party thing gets old. I'm at that point. It's my bday and if I decide I don't want to do anything other than go to work and come home, like I do every other M-F, that's my choice.

Someone asked on one of the long threads the other day, about Kate Steinle's death; they asked it late so I answered but I doubt anyone saw. He said: "Kate died in her dad's arms, as she was dying..."Dad, help me, I dont know what to do." And then she died. Dads out there- thoughts?"
My answer was simple: You say "It's OK honey, I got ya". And then you hold her like you did when she was born, until her time is done.
And then either the shooter or I walk off the pier alive. One or the other. It's not real important which.
I get so much joy out of being a dad that when I read about this shitty life that so many kids have because selfish, shitty fathers can't or won't be dads that I want to be THE DAD for all of them and bring fire and brimstone down on everyone who hurts a kid.

About 25 years ago I had a friend whose parents were killed by an uninsured drunk driver in New Mexico. It didn't occur to me at the time, but I strongly suspect now that the reason the driver was uninsured was because he was an illegal alien.
It's maddening that we can't even get accurate statistics on the number of crimes committed by illegal aliens and legal immigrants. Child rape is terrible, unless you're an illegal alien in which case it's part of your culture and we have to be tolerant. Sickening.

One of my dad's friends from work was killed by a drunk-driving illegal alien. They have terrible drunk-driving records because: culture. Our culture is so superior to theirs and yet, we are told what saints they are (as Trump said, "Only Mother Theresa is coming over the border" according to open border types).
