Well, that's why Sheriffs have erasers:

Pier-slaying Illegal Alien Was Returned to S.F. at Sheriffs request

San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi has deflected blame in the release of a Mexican national now facing murder charges in the Pier 14 slaying by demanding to know why federal authorities returned him to San Francisco to face a 20 year old marijuana charge in the first place.

The answer, it turns out, is that the Sheriffs Department asked federal officials to do so. Mirkarimis agency requested custody of Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez as he was completing a 46 month stint in federal prison in March in San Bernardino County, according to a Sheriffs Department letter obtained by The Chronicle.

Governing!:

A Republican House member is introducing legislation to increase the federal gas tax by 10 cents-per-gallon to help pay for transportation projects across the nation.

The measure, sponsored by Rep. Tom Rice (R-S.C.), would offset the gas tax increase with a $133 income tax credit that would be offered to drivers to minimize the impact of higher prices at the pump.

Rice said his measure would index the gas tax to inflation after the initial 10-cent increase is put in place to prevent future standoffs about transportation funding in Congress.

Good news, every Tewan!

The largest Indian tribes, the Navajo Nation and the Cherokee Nation, have specifically prohibited same-sex weddings. Each tribe has about 300,000 citizens.

These laws will stand even though the Supreme Court decided that bans on same-sex marriage are unconstitutional, according to Lindsay Robertson, director of the Center for the Study of American Indian Law and Policy at the University of Oklahoma, because tribes were not signatories to the United States Constitution and are therefore not bound by it.

And a bit more governing:

The House on Wednesday voted to reauthorize the No Child Left Behind law, resurrecting a bill that Republican leaders were forced to pull from the floor earlier this year due to conservative opposition.

Passage fell narrowly along party lines on a vote of 218-213, with 27 Republicans joining all Democrats in opposition to nearly derail it on the floor. For most of the roll call, the bill had more votes against it than in favor. Many Republicans either held out their votes until the last minute or changed their votes under pressure from GOP leaders.

V.A. Scandal Linked to Obama

His sham reliance on "acting Inspectors General" means permanent cover-ups and corruption.

...

Obama has refused to fill the Inspector General's job at the VA since December, 2013. Until last week, Griffin was the placeholder. Instead of monitoring VA performance, he did just the opposite, covering up and punishing whistleblowers.

Pressured by the White House, Griffin actually changed the wording in a draft report on vets dying at the Phoenix VA in 2014 to understate fatalities.

When the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America and POGO put up a website asking VA workers with first- hand knowledge of problems to come forward, some 800 did. Within weeks, Griffin tried to subpoena their names. "It had a chilling effect," said Brian.

This is true. I bet if you couched homosexual "marriage" as a Mohammedan forcing a kuffir or infidel to submit and act as a woman, some Imam out there would issue a fatwa in your favor, allowing Mohammedan men to "marry" other men, so long as that man was not a believer and the Mohammedan was not the catcher.

93 Laura Ingraham was on F&F this morning and was asked why Donald Trump was at the top of the polls. She gave it both barrels. Trump is saying what the ordinary American is thinking and who is completely enraged with how, after giving the Senate to Republicans, are being told that the Rep. can't stop Obamacare, can't do this can't do that.

She said Trump is not the problem with the Republican brand, the Republican party is the problem.

I'm paraphrasing, her comments were much better. Need to find a link.

95 Lefties are trying to force Native Americans to accept gay marriage.

I'm so old I remember QUILTBAG groups lecturing on how Native American societies were superior to Euro-American society because they recognized that some people are "two-spirit" and would do things outside their prescribed gender roles, like be with someone of the same sex and whatnot.

(I'm also not so stupid that I believed that all Native American societies believe the same shit, so I'm finding this funny.)

They have hundreds of millions of dollars sitting in a fund as reparation payment for the illegal taking of the Black Hills by the US Gov. during the 1870's (for which Custer paid with his life).

To date, the tribes have refused it. They want the Black Hills returned to them, as they believe it is sacred ground.

They don't cave as easy as you think.

The rest of them? Not a chance.

As I've been saying, Trump is a perfect Burn it Down candidate- he'd be better than either TFG is or Hillary! would be, and he just *might* make the GOPe realize that, since it can win without its base, it needs to start advancing the agenda of its base, and not just its big $$$ donors.

A few more details of Democracy at work:

As the clock ticked down on the five-minute voting window Wednesday evening, members sat mostly in stunned silence as the vote began to look doomed. When time expired with the tally at 206-212, Democrats began shouting, Regular order! in hopes of persuading the presiding officer to gavel the vote to a close.

But Republicans held the vote open and twisted arms. Slowly but surely, the tally started to look more favorable. When it finally made it to a passing breakdown, 215-212, Republicans cheered. The presiding officer at the time, Arkansas Republican Steve Womack, who is often in the chair during a dicey vote swiftly moved to close the vote with the passing tally.

Let us stop and ponder the stupidity in that arrangement.

.
.Didn't work here in Kentucky. Everything was A-OK as long as gas prices kept going up and staying up, but the bottom fell out along with the revenue from the gas tax when gas prices crashed. Everyone panicked when gas got below $2.00 a gallon as the tax is based on the wholesale price and the revenue stream pretty much dried up.

Now they are trying to get it at a fixed rate per gallon along with a inflation adjusted kicker. I am not sure if that is one of the things they got done in the last session, but it will be two years before they can tackle it again if they didn't.

Oregon school district spends big on controversial 'white privilege' teacher training
...

Every year the Gresham-Barlow school district, like many others across the state, sends teachers and administrators to a week-long "Coaching for Educational Equity" conference in Cottage Grove, Oregon. The Conference is presented by a private non-profit organization called the Oregon Center for Educational Equity (OCEE).

The event is based on the concept of "white privilege," which is the idea that all white people are racists, whether they realize it or not, and that racism permeates American society and the nation's education system.

The theory says that school curricula, instructional methods and disciplinary policies are hopelessly based on the norms of white culture, for the exclusive benefit of white students. It teaches that black students cannot possibly succeed unless K-12 education is modified and customized to their supposed culture.

There's more.

The "white privilege" crowd claims that fundamental ideals of American society, like hard work for personal gain and personal ownership of property, are products of white culture and completely foreign to black students.
...

Chriestenson soon understood why the OCEE only wants to present the material in carefully controlled environments.

One section of the conference manual -- titled "What is CFEE?" -- offers the following summary statement:

"...Many white people in Oregon have no idea that our schools and state are immersed in white culture and are uncomfortable and harmful to our students of color, while also reinforcing the dominant nature of white culture in our white students and families."

Another section suggests that academic and behavioral standards (presumably for minority students) should be adjusted, because the failure is in the expectation, not in the outcome.

For example, schools should be "examining their own beliefs and practices when students don't meet standards," the conference manual says.

Instead of "controlling or teaching discipline to students," schools should be "changing school practices that alienate students and lead to disruptions," the manual says.

Translation: If minority kids act badly or flunk a test, it must be the fault of the school and its policies.

If a student drops out, that's also a sign of failure for the school. Those kids should be called "pushouts" instead of "dropouts," according to the manual.

The critical notion that race, gender or socio-economic background should have no bearing on the way students are treated is also dismissed. The manual says schools should be "framing issues in terms of race, class and gender."

Certain ideals commonly taught in schools are completely foreign to black culture, according to the manual.

You REALLY have to read the whole thing. There are excerpts from the manual, etc. It's INSANE.

Taxpayers are paying for this. And they are hiding it from the parents. It's mostly done in secret.

So much for "separate is not equal."

But a couple of thoughts- first, it's interesting to me that the Party of Segregation is still preaching Segregation; they've just changed their message so that instead of it "protecting the purity of the White Race," it now "helps persons of color meet educational goals." Funny how the policy would be the same either way. How long do you think it would be until we started hearing calls for "racial purity" again?

Second- In the history of this earth there is one societal tradition which can trace its roots to/through 3 successful empires, which more-or-less conquered the planet, which invented the automobile and space-flight, and which has plunged the world into the the longest (from what I can determine) period of general peace on the planet.

Does it not make sense to emulate that societal tradition? Does it not make sense, if we wish to continue the path of prosperity that tradition made possible, to inculcate *that* culture into others?

Rejecting "White Culture" is like a drowning man refusing to be rescued because the rescuer is a stronger swimmer and "it's not fair."

But black people can't be racist, so there's something wrong with white people, they're somehow deficient, so they're inferior, which....

...is a racist statement.

So white people are the targets of racism, which must come from non-whites, by definition. Who must then also be racists.

According to local media reports, the suspects likely thought the store owner wasn't in the closed shop. They were dead wrong. Literally.

The owner who was still in the store immediately grabbed a shotgun and opened fire on the pair.

One of the suspects was instantly killed. The second suspect immediately ran for his life. He is still at large.

The white privilege stuff is stupid of course, but the worst is that they condescend to the minority children, and because of that they refuse to teach them. These kids will suffer their whole lives, because they will be written off as incapable of 'hard work' and 'learning' and whatever else they've labeled white privilege.

I know a lot of people don't like Bush, but he was dead on about the 'soft bigotry' of low expectation. Except it's not just soft bigotry, it's actively harmful.

Something along the lines of how, in this country, Democrats always get Republicans to agree to immediate tax increases which will be "offset" by later spending cuts. Cuts that somehow mysteriously never actually happen when later arrives.

Personally, I think semi-auto .223 is just about the perfect personal defense round for civilians in an urban environment, but the destructive power of shotguns cannot be understated. Though buckshot has the same problems FMJ pistol rounds have indoors, and birdshot doesn't have enough penetration, so you have to know the limitations of that defense choice.

Medicare, the federal program that insures 55 million older and disabled Americans, announced plans on Wednesday to reimburse doctors for conversations with patients about whether and how they would want to be kept alive if they became too sick to speak for themselves.

The proposal would settle a debate that raged before the passage of the Affordable Care Act, when Sarah Palin labeled a similar plan as tantamount to setting up "death panels" that could cut off care for the sick. The new plan is expected to be approved and to take effect in January, although it will be open to public comment for 60 days.

I call bullshit on this trope.

Palin was referring to the IPAB (Independent Practice Advisory Board) when she used the populist term "death panels". The role of the IPAB was designed to be essentially a rationing board. That is not the same as CMS providing a means for physicians to be reimbursed for end-of-life counseling sessions which are optional and voluntary. Someone is trying to conflate the two.

Exactly. It was the IPAB (Independent Payment Advisory Board) that Palin was talking about when she referred to "death panels." This is the unelected, unaccountable group of bureaucrats who get to decide which health care procedures the government will pay for, and which it won't. IOW, this group of bureaucrats will make life-and-death decisions, based on who they think "deserves" to have medical treatment, and who doesn't.

BTW, even the proggy AMA (which shilled for Obama and helped him pass Obamacare) now opposes the IPAB and is calling for its repeal.

Nah....

Stick with names like Casey, Pat, Leslie, Devin or Elliot that work for either gender so that when the infant gets older and finally decides what gender it is..... there wont be a whole lotta paper work to do.

317 @rickb223

Never said it didn't. My point is for all intents and purposes you just unleashed the equivalent of a whole mess of FMJ pistol rounds, which tend to be terribly efficient at punching through interior walls.

.223 tends to yaw and break apart somewhere around 4' after passing through a wall.

If you don't have to worry about shooting through your house and live far enough away from anyone else, then shotgun with #4 is a great choice. If you live in the city like I do, it's .223 all the way.

326 Um, what "key constituency" is that? Big donors who rely on cheap illegal labor?
Posted by: VA GOP Sucks at July 09, 2015 09:52 AM (PFy0L)

I briefly saw a bit of Trump's interview with Anderson Cooper in which Cooper accused Trump of using illegal labor to build his current hotel project in DC, because of some newspaper report.

Trump told him that wasn't true, that he has always instructed his contractors that they must use legal labor and union labor as per the rules of the individual location and he said that all of his contractors have documentation available regarding their employees.
Which proves a point that he isn't against legal work permits and immigration, or he would have demanded his contractors only hire American citizens(which would be impossible on a construction site...)

I have to watch the news on the fly in the mornings, so I only get bits and pieces. F&F showed some SC State Republican woman bawling her eyes out, choking and hardly being able to speak at the podium while she was begging the house during debate to "DO something, can't we find it in our hearts to do this, " wanting the flag removed.

It was embarrassing and ignorant.

Trump forcing other candidates into a position where they have to take stands on issues.

Jeb!, Rubio and their ilk want to run this campaign with-

a sweet, creamy, mellifluous layer of non-commitment to any particular issue at all,

just the blank slate of "I care" and hey, we'll run things better than the other guys.

That way they can still run things like the Dims, get the graft that kind of governance generates with just a few trims around the edges.

A great example of this is Rubio's Iran commercial on the radio. Bland, bullshitty, no proposals put forth.

337 I have a Baby Eagle in 9mm, and I love it. Even with a double-stack magazine, it has a nicely narrow profile that is very comfortable in the hand. The only thing I ever reconsidered about it was maybe I should have gone with the .40 SW instead of the 9. I already had a Beretta in 9mm and a DE in .357, and I didn't want to stock a third caliber.
