Good morning, fellow rape-shifters. Hope you all had a safe and happy 4th, despite the dire and depressing state of the Union.

Off to drive the wife to the airport. She needs to take care of her mom who just got out of the hospital. 89 years old and generally a tough independent bird, but now dealing with an irregular heartbeat and 11 new meds. Oy.

Anyway, $30 bucks for a Zipcar beats about $45, without the tip, for a cab, especially at this hour, even in NYC where the roads are dead.

Be back soon.

New Paltz Times Headline :

New Paltz Village Board member Don Kerr urges reconsideration of Wallkill River drinking water option.

(It is a battle of the experts over drinking water.)

On the one hand :
a company that is bidding for the contract to upgrade the village's water treatment plant, claiming that they "should have no problem treating water from the Wallkill at no additional cost. "The belief is that it can be done with no additional equipment."

On the other hand :
saying that he had heard from the village's various engineers and hydrologists that the cost of pumping river water up the mountain and back down again and treating it would be "very expensive projects."

There are also permits required, of course, and the casual contamination of the WallKill by discarded pharmaceuticals for which there are no federal standards.

Small towns would be lost without consultants.

Hillary Clinton has good reason to be upset about that. The Chinese are certain to have vacuumed up all the emails off of her poorly secured private email server. The emails subpoenaed from Sidney Blumenthal already prove that Hillary Clinton did not release all the relevant emails before she destroyed the disk of her server. They also show that Hillary Clinton edited the emails that she did release in order to cover up embarrassing information.

I wonder what the Chinese could reveal if they decided to release some of Hillary Clinton's emails? Is it a good idea to have a President who is already pre blackmailed to the Chinese government?

Precisely. If you want to try and gain an advantage over an opponent, you don't take the opposite position of one of the key issues of the day. You could have said that Trump may have been inartful and could have worded his statement better. But to say he's dead wrong means you are taking sides against the American people.

40 In other news,

Ulster County officials and environmental watchdogs say the high-volume releases of water rushing out of the Ashokan Reservoir into the 32-mile long Lower Esopus Creek should serve as an alert that the effects of New York City Department of Environmental Protection actions need close scrutiny.

The comments are being made as city officials have spent several days ramping up releases from 15 million gallons per day on June 28 to 600 million gallons over the July Fourth weekend. City officials contend the releases are a requirement that will bring down reservoir levels from 100 percent to 98 percent over the weekend and then gradually to a 90 percent level by the end of the summer.

Never seen one of those. Must be an American thing, that hasn't reached Canada yet.

But anything's better than those tatty roadside memorials. There's one here at a busy downtown intersection, that's been there for over 2 years now. "Ghost bicycle" painted white, and it's decorated through the year to commemorate various holidays. Don't these people have graveyards where they can go and remember their dead? This eyesore is distracting. It's got balloons and ribbons fluttering from it on Easter and Valentine's Day - it's amazing there aren't MORE accidents at that corner now. I'd like to do as the French did with the bridge of locks - sweep them all up and toss them.

101 Bakery ordered to pay $135,000 for denying wedding cake to lesbian couple

So much for that whole First Amendment.

The bakery's car was vandalized and broken into twice, he said. Photographers and florists severed ties with the company, eventually forcing the Kleins to close their storefront shop in September 2013.

I've got an idea why not paint yellow crosses on Christian owned companies then the tolerant left can smash all of their windows one night. Funny how the DoJ or the government didn't step in to stop these people's lives being ruined while the lesbos could have gone to another bakery.

103 Today's "No Shit, Sherlock!" moment comes to you courtesy of journalist Mary Lane in the July 3 Wall Street Journal. In her article "Sotheby's Hot Streak Keeps Going", on page B6, which describes the latest auction at the Sotheby's of London, she writes:

"Sotheby's also sold a work challenging Christianity, a 2007 wax and metal sculpture by Belgian artist Belrinde de Bruyckere dubbed 'Pieta' ... Sotheby's sold the sculpture by De Bruyckere, who represented Belgium in the prestigious Venice Biennale in 2013, above its $393,000 high estimate for $422,000.

"'Collectors are becoming more receptive to works that previously were thought religiously controversial,' said Sotheby's specialist Cheyenne Westphal.

"Neither auction house [Sotheby's or Christie's], however, has tested works mocking Islam, an unlikely experiment in the wake of the attacks against the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, according to auction-house specialists familiar with the matter."

Anyone here surprised? I didn't think so.

Good morning, Vic, and everyone else.

There's a reason he wasn't in jail. A good reason. SF is a sanctuary city, you see, and it would have bruised his fragile, and innocent ego to hand him over to the feds....and yes, they asked for him. So SF just let him go.

Yeah, there's some of that by picking a group to blame and destroy but Mao's Cultural Revolution was to wipe out all vestiges of traditional Chinese society and cultural and replace with communism or Maoism. From that great source wikipedia

At the Red Guard rallies, Lin Biao also called for the destruction of the Four Olds, namely, old customs, culture, habits, and ideas. Lin's speeches, heavy on rhetoric but light on details, did not specify
what needed to be "destroyed" as part of this campaign. Mao believed
that in creating "great disorder", the masses should organically steer
the direction of the movement rather than rely on the authorities to
tell them what to do. As a result, the movement quickly spun out of
control.

Mostly because sh eels you aren't equipped to manage your own retirement - that must be left up to experts like Teresa Ghilarducci. and 401Ks are evil because o the "tax expenditures" of them being tax-deferred and that rich people take more advantage of them.
