EMT 7/3/15 - Dependence Day edition [krakatoa]

Welcome to the 3rd of July. Something important happened 239 years ago and a day.

I think that thing Thomas Jefferson said about 1689 English Declaration of Rights is particularly appropriate:

1689? That's like, ancient history, amiright?

For what it's worth, Trump has surged to #2 in the Breitbart monthly poll. Cruz #1, Walker #3.

As I have said, I'm not supporting Trump BUT he's the only one so far who is saying things I agree with (no matter how crudely perhaps he comes across) and he is not backing down. For that alone, I think he is having a rather salutary effect on the primary process.

All bets are off if he runs third party, but then again, if Jeb steals the nomination then I may just vote for Trump.

35 I'm finding this Greek thing fascinating. The banks have no money, because people have taken all the money out of the banks.

But even people who have all the money can't buy anything because the people who sell stuff have nothing to sell because the people who sell stuff to the people who sell stuff to people who have the money can't get paid because there is no mechanism to transfer money across the greek border.

And even the people who have the money don't have enough to pay for the stuff they want to import to sell because, apparently no one has any money to buy the stuff.

So where did the money go?

And the best part is, Greece can't go full Zimbabwe because the government doesn't have printing presses to print more money.

Good thing we don't have that problem here because all our money is in the computer systems run by the banks.

I don't like teh Donald, but I really dislike Fiorina. Neither of them strikes me as an attractive candidate, because neither has the kind of record a successful president should have. One would prefer to see more success than failure, which lets them both out.

But in a post-Choom Boy world -- assuming he really does deign to step down in '17 -- it is obvious that a gimmick (skin color, gender, bad hair and big mouth) transcends all else. Arizona's state prisons are stuffed to the gills with violent illegal alien criminals, most of whom are Mexicans. This nonsense that is continually spun by the media/Hollywood/government complex about how all illegal aliens are just hard-working, law-abiding family folks is all a load of bull. Our country has become a dumping ground for all the world's criminals, and Mexico is one of the chief dumpers.

Trump is just stating facts. They're ugly facts, but they're still facts. The illegal alien criminals in Arizona cost taxpayers here billions of dollars a year -- not to mention the fact that, before they're caught and incarcerated (at our expense), these criminals are victimizing citizens here.

Every American who cares about the future of this country should applaud Trump for having the courage to state the obvious.

Even if you have money, you can't pay for anything outside of Greece because the banking system has been shutdown.

Any import-export business is in the same circumstances. You can't import anything, you can't export anything, and basically business transactions are shutting down.

And the capital controls thing means if you try to leave Greece with a suitcase full of paper money, you get arrested at the border. (Ok risk getting arrested at the border.)

93 In the book "Tai'Pan" by James Clavell is a scene where Dirk Struan owes a debt to a rival trader (Tyler Bock) that is about to come due. If Struan can't pay the debt he loses his company to Bock.

Struan secretly raises the money, in the form of gold coins, and arranges a meeting with Bock on the beach. When the meeting takes place, Struan's sailors are casually standing around a pile of crates, and Struan reveals to Bock this is the payment owed, due that day, and pays the debt in full.

Struan's armed sailors then walk away leaving Bock, alone, next to a pile of crates full of gold coins.

100 It's only the race baiters that bitch about the Confederate flag. Anyone who has spent enough time in the South knows it is not that big of a deal. The media stirs this kind of crap up. The flag is part of our history and heritage, white and black and whatever else Southerners. For good or bad, it is part of who we are. There is no use trying to bury it. And just one more thing, we are not pleased that the race baiters and the racists use our flag for their own purposes. Remember the Klan marched by the thousands with the U.S. flag at times. And now the race hustlers are saying Old Glory is a racist symbol. You can't stop these people, they have the right to wave any flag they want to. But they are, and people should understand this, taking the flags out of context. They are USING these flags for their own purposes. And the media is letting them, helping them, get away with it.

121 Yes, I think Trump is just the middle finger vote and he'll fizzle out way before things get serious. Sanders, on the other hand, represents probably at least half of the Democrats and they take him quite seriously.

And the Democrats backing a socialist will be like every other topic with democrats that slowly slides left. "No, no, no of COURSE we arent in favor of (x). We just want .1(x)" to "well there's nothing wrong with (x)!" See also gay marriage and socialized medicine.

In other words, those who so fiercely denied being socialist and questioned if their accusers even knew the definition of the word will shortly be defending socialism.

The Democrat establishment will not allow Sanders to be the nominee. Most of Wall Street contributes to that party and they know what side the bread is buttered on. True, they could give a shit for the free market and are participating eagerly in a fascistic model, but Sanders and Warren are loose cannons. Clinton may be ideologically leftist but she is a greedy thief first and foremost.

Trump on the other hand I will not discount so readily. He has already lasted longer than I thought when he announced. And I am actually rooting for the guy to make a good showing. I like what he's saying and I want him to continue to tell the MFM, the Leftists and the GOP-e to go fuck itself.

133 One of the other stories in the book is told from the perspective of three participants. Quite frightening.

Two Turkeys on the bow cats. Go is given for launch. One Turkey is hurtling down the deck when the shuttle breaks. F-14 limps off the bow to vanish, the pilot in other Tomcat sees two ejection seats and then the damnedest thing ever, the stricken F-14 has pitched nose up after losing all that weight while still in Zone V afterburner, goes rocketing up in the air, stalls out, and he sees this huge hunk of what was 68,000lbs of jet hurtling towards HIS F-14 which is still on the deck. At the last second the falling plane completely misses the deck and plunges into the ocean as the pilot and RIO get kicked out to each side of the carrier by the bow wave after their ejection.

168 Since we mentioned the F-35 upstream: it is a Hell of a lot better dog fighter than the F-117 stealth fighter is. The role of the F-35 is a cross between that of the F-117 and the A-10. The A-10 is not a very good dog fighter either. The F-35 was never meant as a replacement for the F-22. Only our corrupt Precedent is trying to make it one.

The F-117 is in a lot of trouble in a dog fight; its strength is that it is so hard to find that it is a matter of bad luck if an enemy can engage it. That is also the strength of the F-35.

175 93 In the book "Tai'Pan" by James Clavell is a scene where Dirk Struan owes a debt to a rival trader (Tyler Bock) that is about to come due.

200 The F-35 JSF is the Swiss Army Knife of airplanes. It does many things, just none of them well.

Absolutely true. Anyone who thinks a Swiss Army Knife is the Cat's Meow ought to try eating a steak with one. Having a knife at one end and a fork at the other doesn't work very well.

That being said, a Swiss Army knife is lot better than having nothing. But just like a Swiss Army knife was never meant to take the place of a sword, the F-35 was never meant to be an air superiority fighter.

Only Buffoons like the Demon-rats would try to make an F-35 be an air superiority fighter. But understand they don't want us to be able to win a war - because in their diseased, clueless, minds anyone able to defend themselves is a bully.

202 Some JSF history.

Earliest is 1986 when the Royal Navy and USMC started looking for a supersonic replacement for the Sea Harrier/Harrier II. It was called the Joint Advanced Strike Technology fighter.

In 1990 the USAF started to look at the JAST fighter to complement the ATF. And then the Navy started looking at a navalised ATF.

So we get to the X-32 Common Affordable Light Fighter (CALF). This is where the F-35 starts to emerge as the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF).

243 240 Would have to be pretty careful on the sequencing between the rotary launchers so the B-747 ALCM carrier CG does not get really out of whack.

I'm talking about MOP's not ALCM's unless the latter can do the former. In which case they don't need a heavy lifter when they can sea launch or launch from Saudi right across the Gulf.

Sounds like I'd have to get up off the couch, so no.

As an added tweak, if everyone went to the bank and withdrew a substantial amount of cash right before the discretionary spending siesta, life could get interesting!

They'd have to Wild Weasel the hell out of Iran's air defenses beforehand. I imagine that a whole bunch of Sayeret Matkal special forces types will be doing sabotage just before the attack.

248 If Israel feels imminently and existentially threatened by Iran they will have think outside the box and it will be very out there or very costly:

Either boots on the ground as in commandos or think stuff like EMP

249 So this morning I woke up, looked at the clock, rolled over for another hour of sleep.
BAD IDEA.
I had this horrible nightmare. I was in our house with my kid and little bugs, tiny gnat sized ones at first, started to appear. Then bigger and bigger ones, mostly roaches, started flooding in.
I felt so helpless because I could just swat at them one at a time. In the dream I started crying from fear and helplessness. I finally woke up when the bugs were getting so huge that sleeping me told myself "this is ridiculous." Bam. That broke the nightmare.
I guess it was my mind dealing with what's happening to our country.

253 Trump is a fucking clown. He is the pinata with the letters GOP written on it that the MSM can whack when they get bored.

That said, he'd certainly be a better president than the last four this country has had.

Disagree to an extent. The GOP itself will always be a piņata no matter what. At least Trump is saying what needs to be said. Fuckfaces like Pataki who attack him for telling the truth should earn our ire. Not Trump. I for one am glad he's out there.

Yeah but back in 2004 Iran did not have multiple hardened facilities. Israel still has to successfully deliver ( and in Israel's case return with "acceptable" casualties) in great enough numbers to make a significant difference?

In facing an existential threat, the definition of "acceptable" becomes subject to somewhat malleable!

272 Even if you have money, you can't pay for anything outside of Greece because the banking system has been shutdown.

Any import-export business is in the same circumstances. You can't
import anything, you can't export anything, and basically business
transactions are shutting down.

And the capital controls thing means if you try to leave Greece with
a suitcase full of paper money, you get arrested at the border. (Ok
risk getting arrested at the border.)

So basically the EU is blockading Greece... putting them in a state of siege without the actual castle walls.
