Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Kurtz: The Media Is an Intolerant Mob of Jungle-Tribe Witchdoctors and ZealotsI ginned up his words but that's the idea. Will be back in a few -- but needed to get something up. Morrissey quotes Hugh Hewitt's interview with Buzzfeed Ben, an interview that makes me more sorry for Buzzfeed Ben than usual. What astonishes me is that Buzzfeed Ben is like this guy Dietz in the Illinois 18th race -- it is quite obvious that he has never even thought about the questions Hugh Hewitt poses before. Simple, obvious questions everyone even pretending to be a thinker must ask himself, like "Why is it I feel comfortable declaring there are no two sides on gay marriage, and yet I cannot bring myself to criticize Shariah law?" Again, this is obvious. And Buzzfeed Ben is not an uncommonly dumb person for the media. Among media types, I'd wager he's actually highly intelligent (for the cohort, I repeat). But this exposes how painfully, embarrassingly shallow and utterly disconnected from any kind of intellectual rigor these people are. These creates are not thinkers, and hell, they're barely even writers. What they are are Social Climbers, social animals with a fondness for telling those lower in the social pecking order What's Hot and What Not, but with not a dollop of actual interest in the ideas that are supposedly informing their Viral Persuasions. These people are shallow, they are incompetent, they are in the arena of idea without actually having any taste for thinking, and they must, and will be, swept aside. Here's What I'm Doing: Just a brief personal note. This is no big deal. But it doesn't cost me anything to write some frivolous words. I have a good job. In fact, I have a great job. But like many people, I lose sight of just how fortunate I am. I get annoyed that I have to blog every hour, I get lazy, I get bored by the same sorts of stories day in, day out. And what people do, and what I certainly do, is just forget all the wonderful parts of this job, and just look at the annoyances of it. But here's what I get to do: I get to write every day, I get to think about things (which, unlike Buzzfeed Ben, I find enjoyable), and then I get them read by you guys -- who, in the main, like most of what I write, so I get a huge amount of affirmation every single day-- far more than 99% of the world, which works harder than I do but gets only the most meager appreciation for their toil. The other thing I get to do, and this is why I had to run, is do things like grill two huge rib-eye steaks in the middle of the day. I'm Intermittent Fasting, which means I don't eat for about 16-18 hours a day. I eat in a short window of 6-8 hours. When I wake up, I'm pretty hungry. My last meal was at about 5:30 last night, and it was a couple of hardboiled eggs. So I woke up hungry and did my early-afternoon walk and thought about getting some food. And then I remembered: I actually went shopping this weekend and bought two big rib-eyes. I completely forgot about those. Ever do that? Ever let good, expensive meat spoil because you just forgot? Anyway, I realized I had to eat those steaks. So I'm grilling them. That's why I had to post quick and run -- had to turn the steaks. Soon. Anyway, I know that many of you wish you could work from home. It has some downsides (isolation, lack of stimulus), but obviously it has huge upsides. And I think it's important for me to occasionally acknowledge how lucky I am, and drop the depressive Woe Is Me act. I really am grateful. And soon, I will will be almost drunk on rib-eye. Steak Update: These guys are thicker than what I'm used to so the first cut revealed they were purple-pink inside, and I don't play that. Got the alarm set for another five minutes, but I think it's going to be like ten. I am so hungry. You have no idea. Update:Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

It is to despair that there will ever be a Republican who regularly and forthrightly points out the huge hypocrisies, factual illiteracies, and not at all concealed biases of the American snooze media.
It is to further despair that the closest we have ever come to it was Newt Gingrich in the debates in 2012. And even that had a distinct whiff of being a forced schtick, a temporary campaign gimmick that Newt had grasped hold of. Gingrich certainly went for years in which he said and did nothing to puncture the fiction that the media are anything other than "a gaggle of booze soaked VD raddled whores", as it was so elegantly put upthread. King Putz is the ne plus ultra of this phenomena.
He has never thought beyond the Leftard cliches and bumper sticker slogans he was taught at home and in college. Oh, he can barf those back at you well enough like a parrot and read from TOTUS. But, get him away from those and it's all stutters and mindless drivel. Examples? The first debate with Romney. The healthcare "debate" with Ryan. If he's read a book in the last 15 years I'll be surprised as hell. That's why it's all golf and ESPN with him - zero intellectual curiosity, zero thoughts beyond the most elementary - more like an amoeba than a man. i guess that what makes him the top genius of the Left. "Nobody really believes that a flag at the state house had anything to do with the massacre. They believe that the pile of corpses makes a convenient platform to stand on while they kick white southerners in the nuts." The killer, whose name I know perfectly well but won't dignify by repeating it, had a blog. It was titled "The Last Rhodesian", not "The Last Confederate". The Rhodesian flag appears repeatedly in his photos. There aren't any Rhodesian flags on public display anywhere in the USA that I know of, which might somehow magically catalyze racist massacres. Rhodesia itself ceased to exist in 1979, and I would bet that fewer than one in ten of today's American adults even could correctly identify it if queried. But, whipping up a huge hysterical public panic over Rhodesian symbology would not be quite as politically useful. Posted by: torquewrench at June 30, 2015 12:37 PM (noWW6) 133

I enjoyed working from home awhile in the early 2000s -- doing coding and Linux administration. I got to take my kids to school and pick them up and sit around in my shorts and grow a beard. But it did get old after a while. And people, your kids and kin, forget that you're not home kicking back with a beer; you're working. So they tend to take advantage of the fact you're at home and get you to do favors while you're at home (working) and they're at work in the workplace.
Anyway, I found that I also liked having an early shower and getting dressed and going to the office/workplace and not working at home. Posted by: Sphynx at June 30, 2015 12:41 PM (OZmbA) Posted by: Admiral Akbar at June 30, 2015 12:41 PM (Dwehj) 146

OT been reading a handful of pieces on the oncoming bankruptcy of Puerto Rico. According to WSJ, the White House pushed Congress to allow Puerto Rico's public corporations to be able to file for chapter 9 bankruptcy. ...another WSJ piece says: The island is a self-governing U.S. commonwealth; its residents are U.S. citizens but its government isn't bound by many of the restrictions placed on state budgets and debt financing. States cannot file for bankruptcy protection, but municipal entities such as Detroit have used chapter 9 of the U.S. bankruptcy code, the law guiding municipal bankruptcies, to restructure debt. Puerto Rico doesn't qualify for the purposes of chapter 9, leaving its heavily indebted municipal authorities, such as its electric utility, unable to restructure debt under that law. breitbart - World Bank involved... why is that? A report released Monday by a former World Bank chief economist and others found that Puerto Rico's fiscal debt is larger than originally thought and urged the government to act quickly. ... Garcia has taken several measures to help generate more government revenue, including signing legislation raising the sales tax to 11.5 percent and creating a 4 percent tax on professional services. "But this exposes how painfully, embarrassingly shallow and utterly disconnected from any kind of intellectual rigor these people are. "
I think that's what Breitbart figured out. I need to study more about how he operated. I think I may have done a little of it the other day. Something I've been noticing in recent months is where some leftist asshole makes the claim that Christians in the US are pretty much just like the Mullahs in Iran, ISIS, etc. This was one of those. That's a "hot button" for me because not only does it insult most of my family, but history tells us that the next step after de-humanizing is to do inhuman things to those who have been de-humanized. That SHIT has GOT to STOP. So I called them out, which I think they are NOT used to having happen. My cousin - not the leftist asshole, but a leftist, so still inherently sort of an asshole - actually asked me to censor MYSELF. I enjoyed pointing out that asshole was insulting her father who died recently, and her mother, whose birthday is coming up, and more, and told her that if any censorship was going to happen it was going to come from her. I'm pretty sure her sister, a devout Catholic, was witnessing it, so I enjoyed that, too. Another pundit said that a great way to handle this stuff is to make sure you have good humor, and are enjoying making fun of them. Unfortunately, I probably came off as being as angry as I was, but at least I didn't use any profanity (although if ever it was called for, it was then). I read the Hugh Hewitt interview transcript between he and BuzzFeed Ben. Hewitt really does an excellent job of asking Ben questions that cut right through all the masking tape the modern reporters slap up to hide their inability to cover both sides equally.
I especially enjoyed when he asked Ben, who admits not to believe in God, whether he could ever understand a person like Hewitt who deeply believes in God and bases his worldview and actions around that. Ben's inadequate answer is that with humility and empathy, yes, that's possible. Here's the problem. Go on twitter and read these reporters responses to legitimate criticism. They are anything but humble and display disdain and indifference to others' point of view. By his own standard, this means they simply cannot cover the other side. A childhood friend's dad was a chef. He had bypass surgery in '79 - when it was still pretty risky surgery - and was told to give up cigs, cream, butter, red meat etc. He was given a copy of the AHA cookbook, filled with recipes which used margarine and soy as ingredients. He quit smoking and tried to follow the cookbook, but after a year of misery, he went back to cooking the way he always had cooked. (He didn't have weight issues). He told his doctors he'd rather die than eat another tofu burger.
He died in 2000. I guess the smokes were the problem, not the fat. Posted by: Donna V. (sans ampersands) at June 30, 2015 01:21 PM (u0lmX) 358

Test doneness of steak-
Touch the tip of you index finger to your thumb, with your other hand feel the fleshy part of your palm at the base of the thumb. Do the same with the other three fingers in turn (touch tip to thumb) The firmness of the base of your thumb correlates with the firmness of your meat as follows: index finger => rare middle finger => medium rare ring finger => medium pinky finger => well done (Use this technique with caution as hand babies might result) Posted by: Muldoon, a solid man at June 30, 2015 01:24 PM (mvenn) 372

Actually, venison is sweet and light tasting - IF the hunter properly prepared the carcass immediately. I've had terrible venison before and found that the person who did it never bled the animal, didn't cool it out properly, allowed the musk glands to stay on the legs and pollute the meat, or a host of other no-no's. That makes the meat taste horrible. One must bleed out the animal, gut it carefully (tying off the excretory passages - both of them ) and dump the offal within 10 minutes, prop the cavity open and hang the carcass ASAP, skin it and allow it to cool out, remove the forelimbs and/or the musk glands entirely after the kill so you don't get that hair on any piece of meat, cut out the shot areas, and clean clean clean. If you don't do one of them, the meat tastes foul. Do them all and pay attention - and the meat is sweet and tender. Posted by: Inspector Cussword at June 30, 2015 01:25 PM (ukTrJ) 377

So, Vito was released before the end of training camp? Posted by: Muldoon, a solid man at June 30, 2015 12:56 PM (mvenn) According to the article by AP, carried by Yahoo, Micheal Sam's coming out was the catalyst that brought gay marriage to America. He was asked about it and said it was all the people before him that brought this about and he is just very happy and hopes to marry someday. I had no idea that there were no states that permitted gay marriage until Michael Sam came out last year publicly, slobbering all over his boyfriend when he was drafted. Anyway, according to Fox, all references to Vito have been removed from Sam's social network pages. My guess is Vito's photo has a big x through it and all his underwear was tied in knots before Sam tossed all his stuff onto the lawn. 1) If it's a really good cut of meat-
salt and pepper only if your grilling over wood or charcoal. 2) If it's a really good cut of meat and your pan frying- salt and pepper only until you form a sear on one side flip, rub sear with garlic clove, smack sear with fresh rosemary sprigs then throw rosemary with butter in pan Baste with butter, pan juice rosemary mix a few times. Serve. and have awesome mouthgasm. 3) an exception can be made if grilling over charcoal for using Oakridge Santa Anna Steak Rub cuz it's just that awesome. (really!) Here is my theory - thinking is hard. Really, it is very hard. Try it. Exhausting even. Count the number of time each day you use some saying or slogan. All's well that ends well. No biggie. Rock the vote. Lazy stupid people don't want to be lazy and stupid, they want to be sch...mart. But smart is hard. Fortunately there is a solution - they can simply parrot the smart things other people have thought up. All the live long day (see what I did there?) (See what I did by saying "what I did there"?). The problem is smart people who want things know that there are millions of dumb people like Buzzfeed Ben who will parrot smart sounding things without really thinking too much about them. So they come up with a bunch of smart sounding tripe and get poor dimwits like Ben to repeat them, because Ben gets to sounds like one of the smart kids. And this tripe allows the smart people to steal, lie, and get away with stuff. Posted by: Geroge Orwell's ghost at June 30, 2015 02:22 PM (/EkKm) 547

But these days... I just don't care any more. There's no passion, I cannot work up enough concern or hope to write about it. Yep, that's how it is. Dumb. But nobody is listening, nobody cares, nobody wants to learn.
